Web portal & sync / Re: Locus Map - cloud/sync server
September 10, 2020, 10:34:03
Hi Andrew,
thanks for sharing your experience. Regarding the offline state, this is really good finding! I guess that it would make sense to disable "Sync button" + show some warning that you need connection for this operation. But let's wait for @menion, maybe this is already on the TODO list ;)

Another benefit of sync (other than backup) is actually possibility to keep multiple devices in sync. You just need to sign in with the same user on a different device (e.g. tablet or even emulator). All changes on both devices should be synced. If you modify same item in parallel then newest change wins. You can definitely test this scenario.

Be aware that right now, you have to pull new changes to your device manually ("Cloud sync" screen > "Quick sync"). We plan to add instant notifications about changes in cloud, soon. This notification should then automatically start sync which should keep your device fully synced with cloud without any extra effort.

Sharing data with other people using cloud is on our roadmap but not implemented right now. We need to finish web planner first which should be used to visualize your shared track (using dedicated url).

Also sollten wir einfach mal abwarten.

Hello,
currently the Locus Map Watch add-on for Wear OS requires connection to the phone running Locus Map (all the data are evaluated and recorded there).

Supported values and statistics that can be shown by the add-on are:
- Track time & distance
- Speed - current, average, max
- Elevation uphill/downhill
- Distance uphill/downhill
- Altitude current, min, max
- Heart rate current, average, max
- Energy
- Cadence average, max
- Pace
- Watch battery & current time

Slope is currently not implemented, but could be added in the future. Heart rate has been reported as a bit buggy for some users if captured directly by the watch itself. External HR sensors like chest-strap should be fine.

Also as an another suggestion, you could possibly consider getting another second-hand or cheap Android phone just to use as a Bike Computer? We are currently working on ways to synchronize two or more instances of Locus Map running on multiple devices (will require Internet connection though), so that could make using LM on two phones more usable in the future.

Stupid that some serious problems depend on the Android version (sometimes it's even worst and problem depends on Android version + manufacturer) ... anyway, even I do not like the purchase of new devices when old still work, I'm glad you have a working solution :).

Hello,
nope, sorry. I do not know how these custom lock screens works, but can't imagine, that Locus may have any influence on it. I was also searching on Microsoft help desk and this "Next" support site, but no answer seems to help me here. So I personally do not know...

Icon ... next month ;). And yes, there will be probably identical icon for both app versions and in device will return back old separation by Locus Map FREE and Locus Map PRO title.

GPS ... it is more complicated, but I'll tell it simple:

- old system was completely manual. So app requested location from network providers (BTS stations, wi-fi) or GPS and then get it. From both sources separately. How app did it was completely on developer. Received data was raw, unfiltered.

- new system use Google Play services in your device(s). This system has inner "secret" logic and as a developer, I have close to zero chance to influence it. Locus now say to system, give me best location you are able every second. And that's all. It is almost impossible to say, if received location is from GPS or Wi-fi (so app now only guess by frequency of change etc.). It is also not possible to compare precision, because probably only Google devs known exact method how accuracy was computed. So best to compare by where you see a spot on the map, not by some virtual "accuracy" number, or coloured accuracy circle! Also satellites ... consider them only as an "interesting" information, but not as precise exact info. If wanted, I may explain more later. Important it, how useful will be results from this and my first few impressions are really positive.

How my explanation is clear.

@Žajdlík Josef
thanks for a testing, appreciate it.
About GPS .. if was previously possible to set value "0", it was definitely a bug. May you explain to me, why to set value "GPS update interval = 0"? Because this value a) with such value, auto-off is disabled (it was disabled also before), b) such value make no sense! "GPS update interval" say, how long Locus Map puts GPS to sleep. Because this feature was made to save some battery, optimal value is more then a minute!

Thanks for an notification on problem with weather. It was a bigger problem in the end ... hopefully solved.

@Viajero Perdido
may you please show me issue with weird distance to cache? I'm unable to simulate this problem, thanks.

@john_percy
I'll need on this more time and mainly precise testing. So since next version (next week), I'll start work on this.

@jajaballard
issue with applied "wi-fi only" is known and already fixed, thanks.
About issue with export ... hmm I'm using autoexport to Velohero few times per week and did  not noticed any change. Auto-export does not use last parameters, but parameters directly defined in recording profile. So suggest to check if auto-export is correctly set.

guys, issue in training found. Recorded track was really incorrectly stored so some post-process and also upload to Strava was not working correctly. Issue fixed ... next version (final) in Wednesday ;)

Themes - Vector maps / [Theme] TOTM (V3)
January 29, 2018, 16:09:50
Tiramisù as OpenTopoMap

No routes, only topography, better larger zoom.

for V3 maps

On the OAM maps, there are intermittent streams, embankment, ridges, cutlines, etc....

It is recommended to use with the "Hill shading" map is ON - that the similarity is maximized.

There was no purpose to do an exact copy, but to use the best features.

OpenTopoMap -> https://www.opentopomap.org

Update: ver1.8 (15/02/2018)
- again redrawn the forest, with transparency. Now it is correctly mixed with other fills and objects.
- added or changed: mountain_pass | saddle, natural = stone, tower: communication, volcano, turning_circle, man_made = adit | adit_disused, wells water_well, waterfall, summit: *, fixed reservoir | basin, redrawed bare_rock, completed the color of main roads
- the mapping of the mountainous terrain has been reworked,
- added a layer of "Winter routes", the display - slightly adjusted copy-paste from the built-in theme "Skiing"

Hmm thanks for a test. It seems that Locus needs to report to strava, that it's an indoor training. I see there should be an option ... will check it.

Hi Guys,

I did a minor extension of the Elevate and Elevate LE themes provided by OAM from their webpage and for usage with the OAM: I added some lines which allow to switch on a new option when selecting maps layout. The new option is called "MTB+Hiking routes" and it does what you would expect: you can have the MTB layout where you enable and display hiking routes additionally.

The files are availble from my webserver in two flavors:

To use the modification, simply download the zip file and extract the content (2 folders) into /Locus/mapsVecor/_themes/ on your device running Locus Map. The files could be easily used in parallel of any other themes. Enjoy!

Please let me know what you think about the modification.

Best regards

Bernhard

Update Feb 18, 2018:
Updated the files base don latest OAM Themes released on Feb 13, 2018. Latest maps required to benefit from all updates!
