Versions / Re: [APP] - version 3.45.+ ( 14. 4. 2020 )

New version 3.45.1.3 is in the Beta channel, so give it a try.

Mainly @joeloc, check if such a solution makes sense. There are parameters that have more options and there is, of course, no doc for this, so just use set > export > check method, thanks.
On a first quick glance, export and re-import of extra colors and patterns with gpx seem to work fine. Thanks!

Storing the Locus Database Folder there as well wouldn't be an option? Needs more thinking obviously and some UI work on the Import dialog... just an idea.

@joeloc
This never worked yet. I was already thinking about it, but because no global standard exists, I left it as is now. How you may use this? Just to share tracks from your Locus to other Locus instance right?
There is quite a lot of parameters, but I'll look at it ...

Yes... share your tracks with the people you are on trips with... and also import my own tracks into Locus in a proper way. I have literally thousands of tracks from my own trips and coloring them manually in Locus is not possible any longer. I can easily generate GPXes with proper coloring and patterns in Locus syntax from a script, but that gets mostly lost on import.

In general, it just sounds reasonable if you import something you exported, it ends up being identical.

Locus exports/imports track color to gpx in a standard extension... and locus activity as custom locus extension. However, the rendering pattern and color (arrows, dots, whatever) is not exported/imported. Could you maybe make this work too?

I remember this working already at one point, that's why I post it here in the versions thread. But maybe I am mistaken, it's been a long time that I tried to import properly colored tracks with patterns.

Code: [Select]

<extensions>
<line xmlns="http://www.topografix.com/GPX/gpx_style/0/2">
<color>0D9B0D</color>
<opacity>0.83</opacity>
<width>8.0</width>
</line>
<locus:activity>cycling_mountain</locus:activity>
</extensions>

Locus Map (4+) / Re: Locus Map 4, discussion

@joeloc
nope, sorry. The inner rendering system was rewritten half year ago, but still uses a combination of hardware (for maps) and software (for visible points/tracks) rendering.
Ok... will keep my fingers crossed for Locus 5 then. Maybe we can handle more than 10 tracks gracefully in 2025 :-).

I was just wondering... will Locus 4 be a major enough rewrite to catch up with other mapping apps regarding smoothness? Will it render everything through the GPU via Vulkan or OpenGL (or whatever is currently used on Android)?

Thanks and merry xmas...

It still auto centers in track editor? I thought this was fixed...
You might be right... I cannot reproduce that now. However... the external link autocenter problem happens every time, eg when a WhatsApp location is sent to Locus.

Locus has become way too aggressive with centering the map on the gps position. For example, when I click on a position link in WhatsApp or on a web page or on any other external source and send it to Locus, it only moves to the place for a split second and then recenters on current gps pos. At least it should wait for the configured delay, just like when scrollling the map. Maybe even twice that delay, because it is obvious that I am quite interested in viewing the new place.

Also, gps centering seems to interfere with the track editor. Imho, Locus should never jump to gps when the editor is on.

Is it just me or does Locus (latest pro) forget what map items (kml/gpx files) are enabled on every restart? I remember those were kind of permament once, but now they are all gone on each new start. Very painful, especially since the UI to enable them again is a clicky tappy horrible inconsistent mess :-).

Hi Menion. Since latest Pro Update, I can no longer record proper tracks. Even with "Location Interpolation" or whatever this new thingy is called set to "minimum", my position keeps wandering off aimlessly and strays away more than  20 meters from the correct place from time to time... randomly but quite often.

What makes this quite horrible: If I actually set this interpolation thing to OFF, it wanders around even worse... sometimes as much as 100m. When I get back to the same spot after a while, the position might be fine.... or it might not. Really random.

Maybe there is a little bug in your code that actually interprets OFF as "do as much as nonsense as possible"? :-)

I'd appreciate a quick fix if you find it. Not being able to record proper tracks at all is a real bummer. The Galaxy Note 8 was always spot on and accurate by the meter before this new Locus "feature".

Running latest pro on latest Android Pie on Galaxy S8+. There was also a Samsung Firmware update in-between when this position mess started, but I still suspect Locus. The position problems really look like a filter going crazy or some such.

Thanks...

I recently had Locus crash on me really hard... losing all settings and basically everything else. Fine I thought... doesn't happen very often really... I can simply restore the last Auto-Backup and be a happy camper again.

Imagine my surprise when Locus wouldn't even startup anymore... apparently because I had no internet?! Some weird stuff about initializing and downloading and "unknown problem code 10099".

Seriously?

Well guess what... I was on top of a mountain and in desperate need of Locus to backtrack my own steps through a glacier as the fog was rolling in. And there was no bloody internet for miles and ages!

So what's the story here? No internet, no Locus? Thats one of the biggest blunders I can possibly imagine for an outdoorsy adventure app. What if that crash had not happened in Europe but on one of my other trips... like in Peru or Bolivia or Nepal or Arizona or Godknowswhere? I might have been stuck with a stubbornly playing dead Locus for a long long time. Contrary to popular belief, you can still move around this planet for many days without the slightest bit of internet anywhere to be seen.

So what's so important that you absolutely need to download and cannot live without? I surely hope it's not a license check...

Can this be fixed? I really need to get Locus up and running again, even after a hard crash and without internet.

3.29.2... yet another release with training manager still making fun of every single mountain user... every single minute of every single day :/.

seriously... isnt this is a three minute fix? And if adding strings to the UI is really that complex, just remove

+ abs(altitude.loss)

from your code... which turns the thing into a thirty-second-fix. It's named "elevation gain" already anyway... and having a single correct gain value would still be a lot better than Locus current phantasy.

Please!

Long story again, just for completeness: Altitude gain and altitude loss are too very distinctive and very different things. Presenting them as one single value by adding absolute amounts is nothing but major nonsense... for any activity one can possibly imagine.

Thanks...  :)

since the forum seems to be mostly dead except the beta threads, i moved here:
http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/fully-automatic-track-and-waypoint-import-with-locus-actions

13
I want to import a huge amount of data into Locus automatically... around 50 track folders and 50 waypoint folders. I thought locus-actions could do this job and I already got as far as downloading. But then
<after>importData</after>
only opens up the user interface import dialog and waits for input. Not really that useful for automation with hundreds of items.

Is there any way to do something like
<after>importDataQuietly,foldername,create/empty</after>
// do not call the user interface but instead simply import into a given folder automatically, creating/emptying if requested

I assumed this to somehow work already, because otherwise locus-actions are a bit pointless for automated data import. Cannot find anything in the docs though.

Thanks,
joe.

@menion, my google account somehow lost beta versions access... can't test the latest fix. But the last stable that you linked here for download does NOT have the Horizontal/Vertical problem. Everything works normally. So it must be something you changed between then and now.

"Downgrading" Locus to a previous version has always been a bit messy for me. I have to uninstall the current Locus first, because Android 6 won't let me put an apk on top of a newer version. Then I can restore prefs from a backup, then the weirdness starts: The prefs "seem" correct, ie all the values in the settings windows are fine. Yet Locus will still use the defaults from the new apk installation . I have to enter each settings window manually and sort of click each settings item (not changing it) to make Locus actually use the restored Settings.

Just mentioning... not a major issue. Major issue is the horizontal UI I guess !:)
