Quote from: "menion"hi,
Draw Circle under Geocaching tools - fixed
Projection Distance under Geocaching tools - fixed
Guided voice navigation - I'm confuse :) and really need help. Now it says correct values in yards but below arrow is displayed value in ft (feet), so what are globally used imperial units? No one complain that "ft" units are wrong so I expect that this is correct, anyway it looks really weird that it says yards and show ft. Or do you think it's OK? Hmm ..
Awesome on the fixes!

For the voice guidance, agreed, it's a bit quirky..  Tom Tom voices appear to only have Meters and Yards.  And even though it's not matching exactly, I personally would prefer to continue to see "XXX Feet" on the display but hear "Yards"...  300 feet, 100 yards.. etc..

Might be worth asking in the voice guidance thread to see what other folks think?

In an effort to combine these into one list, could anyone help me list any areas which don't match the set units in the preferences?  Here's the places I know of..

Hopefully menion can fix each as he has time  :D  And he is, quickly as always!

The following are always in Meters regardless of Units in settings:
  • Edit Point Altitude (Somewhat important)
  • Settings -> Track Recording, Interval, max accuracy, track width units (Somewhat important)
  • Settings -> GPS and Location, Adjust Altitude (Low priority)
  • Settings -> Sensors, Speed value (Semi important)
  • Settings -> Guiding, Waypoints: Distance for sounds, Waypoints: Set Next Point, Waypoints: Distance for Sounds (Low Priority)

Items that were always in Meters, but have been fixed:
  • Draw Circle under Geocaching tools
  • Projection Distance under Geocaching tools
  • Guided voice navigation I announces the number of feet but actually says "Meters" (TomTom voices don't have feet, but do have Yards)

Top idea  :D
Thanks.

I'm aquapac only for my camera. Now I put my Galaxy inside and it works fine  :!:
Touchscreen works fine.
Next outdoor action and aquapac shadow me.

Yep, that'll work for water resistance, but no impact protection.  I ride MTB, so I need some protection ;)  But for roadies or such, should be fine.  I wonder if it's water resistant enough to ride a motorcycle at speed in rain?

I have two Aquapac's, neither seem to be sold on the website anymore so I can't link them..  but they both work quite well, they're very durable, waterproof, float if dropped.  They will NOT protect against falls.

The biggest problems I've had with them in the past was if you have a rubbery case on your phone, the case can either stick to it or be difficult to get in or out of the pouch.  Previous phones I had Best Skins Ever on and they stick to those types of phone skins really hard, in fact I used to keep a small piece of wax paper in the case.  But if you don't have that type of skin on your phone, it's no problem.  :)

Operation is just fine, only problem I have is when it's raining and the case gets rain droplets on it the screen sometimes acts funny..  Usually I hit the power button (suspend), wipe it off, turn back on and it's fine.  Don't know that salt water would be any worse offhand, but just fresh around here.  And they are built really well, the seal and mechanism you know it's closed.

If you want something that's waterproof AND pretty much damage proof, get an Otterbox.  But you won't be able to use the screen.  I'm planning on mounting an Otterbox 2000 on a 4-hole GPS mount that'll mount on bike handlebars for biking with the phone accessible.  Some foam and it should be good for vibration, water, and the potential fall (singletrack, not bombing down mountains but still rough stuff).

Other features / Re: Geocaching TOOLS

One more thing that would be nice if Waypoints on Geocaches stayed selected and were not considered Temporary items which are unselected after closing Locus.  If I solve a puzzle, I want to see the waypoints shown all of the time.  And I want them as waypoints within the cache, so that they stay together, don't want to create a separate waypoint in my Favorites or something for it.

It would also be nice if a waypoint could have waypoints.  If I'm placing a multicache for example, it would be nice to create the "master" waypoint, say the (to be) published cache location, and within that I have added the other waypoints associated with that.  That way they're all in one place.

Quote from: "l0ck1e"Thanks for implementing the 528ft radius into the 1.13 update, works great.
Agreed, does work great, although I was confused how to remove them!  The "clear temporary objects" doesn't do it, but a restart did.  Is that intended menion?

I have one more feature request.  :)  You have field note support, but it's a manual process to upload it to geocaching.com.  I found that Opera will properly upload it (stock browser will not), but it'd be awesome if Locus could do it.  I'd think it could post the field notes file to the form in http://www.geocaching.com/my/uploadfieldnotes.aspx and then the user could do the normal work on the GC.com website to log them?

If you need any help here I could try, I've done a little of this in curl before, I could try to identify the fields etc to upload it in one go.  But not sure about authentication into the site etc...

Add-ons & Co-apps / Re: Addon - Geocaching

Quote from: "wvb"Just click on the map somewhere and it will popup an address where you will have the gear icon :)
You can also directly click on the "loading" dialog if you don't want to wait..

Oooooh, I disabled that, I see now.  I kept getting it randomly "Loading" while I was scrolling around on the map.  I'll experiment some more, but probably just wind up putting a temporary waypoint.  I wonder if his app can have a button in Locus "Search for caches from middle of map" or something..

Quote from: "menion"to be everything clear ... tap LONG click on map ;) ... and yes, Arcao use geocaching API

Aha cool, good to hear he's using the API.  They claim only two apps do, NeonGPS or something and their own terrible app.

What would be cool is to tie existing caches into the API as well, if it can...  I'd love to be able to download the latest data on a cache to get the most recent logs, maybe make sure there's no coordinate change etc.  Per-cache basis is perfectly fine in that regard, as usually the times I do this I can't find a cache and I'm looking at hints, logs etc and want to refresh the cache just in case it's disabled or there's more recent logs to help ;)

Also, logging from the field would be cool, but maybe that could be done in Locus.  I'll bring that up in the Geocaching tools thread.

Quote from: "menion"yes it have, but changes are due to new filtering system, not because of your troubles. I still don't think about "what's problem with your database". Have to start soon :)
k, let me know if you need any more details!  I've stopped moving my waypoint databases around, but I still do most of my map downloading on the tablet and move them over to the phone, but the phone can't write to them to add anything new, so anything I do online is temporary..  Hopefully can be fixed. :)

Thanks!  BTW, bought Pro last night.

Add-ons & Co-apps / Re: Addon - Geocaching
September 15, 2011, 14:11:58
I'm feeling like I'm a bit daft here, but I can't figure out how to make G4L work without an existing waypoint on the map.  That's in itself not a big deal, create a waypoint in the middle of where I want to hunt, then the Gear icon on it.  But the instructions just say "tap the map".  I assume this means "tap a waypoint on the map"?  Just making sure I'm not missing something here.  :)

Also, is this using the new Geocaching API to do the imports, or some other method?

Thanks!

Hey, did the market update today have the database SQL changes in it?  If not not biggie, just checking in.  :)  I saw you added 528ft radii, sorting, filtering, and some other goodies :)

Other features / Re: User Interface
September 14, 2011, 04:33:13
I find the Locus interface a little cluttered, and I wouldn't go as far as saying it's like Windows Mobile like the OP, but it does have some tiny little buttons on smaller screens like my phone.  Usable, but small.  I have yet to get a chance to actually go geocaching with Locus, so I haven't yet seen how the interface holds up in bright light (ie: when I can hardly see it anyway), but IMO it could be a little less cluttered in some cases.

But I suck at UI, so I shouldn't throw any (small) stones ;)

Other features / Locus works great at large datasets
September 14, 2011, 02:07:14
Today I finally converted my two dozen PQ's that covered about half of my state into PQ's that cover my entire state in 20 PQ's.  If you're curious, here's a good explanation:  http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum/co ... ltiple-PQs

Basically you make a PQ starting from the start of geocaching until whatever date in your area which your PQ is full.  I pick 500 so they'll be emailed to me and I can parse 'em through some Perl to do fun stuff to them, but some folks pick 1000 because it's easier.  Then just keep going.  For my state, Kentucky, this is around 10560 active caches.  I actually exclude my own and found caches from the list.  I figure maybe twice a year I'll go back and fix the PQ's, as caches get expired, I find 'em, etc...  Only real maintenance is the most recent set which will eventually grow to over your limit and you'll have to create a new PQ to cover it.  The good thing is you don't have to run every set every week, I plan on manually ticking off the oldest ones every month or so to pick up on any archives etc but otherwise that data really isn't changing except for logs.

So I loaded it into Locus.  :)  I haven't tried to load the whole dataset into one category but I bet it'd be just fine..  This is 6 zipped PQ's that are loaded in..

Here's the grouped POI view of my state..

And ungrouped..

I didn't benchmark the loading of data, but it was very reasonable....  MAYBE would take 5 minutes to load all 9550 at once.  And about 45s total to make them all visible in the categories.  And actual usage is very fast, even with the name showing up under the cross.  Turning that off and there's no lag at all.  My tablet is a Dell Streak 7 and it has a Tegra 2 CPU..  Not sure if it's using both CPUs or not.  Just thought I'd post this, I thought it was pretty cool how well Locus handles it.

My largest of the PQ's is 4200 (basically the entire state minus some 5 areas I regularly visit I broke off into their own areas using gpsbabel) takes 2:34 to load from start of Import to finish.

FYI if anyone counts, the grouped view adds up to 9250..  Not sure about the discrepancy, but I suspect some individual caches are not shown nor grouped, not sure.

Quote from: "menion"hmm quite interesting. I tried you file and NO Problem! ... weird. So only what can help me is some log with your crash

about expiration time for geocaches. Ok, as first step, I created ability to display and sort caches by last update time. So now you can see which caches aren't updated for a long time. I know you require some automatical mechanism ... I have to think more about it

anyway from first two parts of your list, all is clear? Searching method is as you discovered. You can access it from menu->functions->search of from right panel. It's only on main map screen because as you can see, it do not contain only search for POI, but much more

Searching...  would be nice if it also worked from the Points menu, as I'm most often searching from there.

Quote from: "menion"hso, let's look on third part "waypoint action"
- only problem seems to be some missing call to google maps. As you probably discovered, when you tap on waypoint, there is under last bottom button, call to external applications like google nav, navigon (if installed) and some more. Waze can also be called from external application? Have to check ...

Not sure if it's a generic navigation intent or what?  GeOrg doesn't call specific to Waze, just any app that offers Navigation will show up in the list and I pick.

Quote from: "menion"hnext, "cache hunting"
- quick switch from compass to map? Top left Home button. And back? as you discovered, compass button on right panel for example

"maps"
- no in-app navigation? Tap on waypoint and in bottom menu is guiding and compute path function

Doh!  Works great!
Quote from: "menion"h"on-the-fly"
 - no, why? simple reason ... all that georg do, violate terms of use of groundspeak! You can anyway use addon G4L, which do some online stuff

bcaching is perfectly legit.  But yes, there is a scraping plugin available as well.  What would obviously be ideal here is the Geocaching API.  Here's from one of GC.com's pages:

QuoteIf you are a third party developer interested in using the Geocaching-Live API, please send an email to mailto:bizdev@groundspeak.com">bizdev@groundspeak.com and we will look forward to working with you.

Quote from: "menion""nice to have"
 - "Online shared every time"? Don't understand ...
 - "circles" ... I'll think about it
Online Shared map type.  Right now it always defaults to downloading map tiles into "Separate Map (SQL Type)" and I think it'd be nice to be able to set this default, as I always want it to be "Online shared map (SQL Type)".

Attaching logcat from starting Locus, trying to enable waypoints in a "locked"database, force closing, and then it restarts.  I notice it also offers a Report option, I'll send that to you as well as it might have more info.

BTW, I've decided to narrow down what's rsync'ed to just /sdcard/Locus/maps* and avoid all other stuff..  So my waypoint databases don't get fiddled with, but I still can't add tiles to the databases as they are locked.  But it's a workaround for now.
