I guess I have been lucky because I switched to a new phone with android 13 a few months ago dn solid explorer worked for android/data folder access.  Now it doesn't and Amy other apps don't either.  Some can see the files but you can't write to it???

On an adv motorcycle forum I asked what's the deal with DMD2 since there is sooooooo much it can't do compared to Locus.  I was promptly told what it does do it does very well.  I was skeptical and I got the paid version and played with it....well I am stunned...it is true it has at least 2 features that I wanted for locus and I think many others wanted for years...please correct me if I am wrong...  Intermediate time/distance to various targets and a simple time/distance measure tool along a track.  It has a high contrast mode and a better "dashboard" experience too.

So I am trying a hybrid approach to nav by keeping locus for the planing and back end library but using dmd2 for the actual following of the tracks for now....I wish locus just had all these features.

This loads but can't display anything in North America?

Also...I believe I can edit WMS with names.  if I delete what I don't use, Is there a way to export the full list as a back up and reimport?

Is there a Locus working repository of more wms besides the libraries within the software?

Petr...a while back you were able to get both PAD-US working as an online map and FS-Topo.

I am trying to get the MVUM layers to show on an offline map and have managed using the jpeg to map calibration to KML....works ok.

I also was able to finally find a server that allowed export of a kml or geojson but they come in as  individual tracks and you can't adjust transparency.

I am also experimenting with the qgis method to make mbtiles but it is arduous.


Can we get this  https://apps.fs.usda.gov/arcx/rest/services/EDW/EDW_MVUM_01/MapServer/2 to show as an online map that way I can download the entire area for offline and finally have parity in this visual data with Gaia???

Like you did with FS-Topo, you figure out the XML code and I add it to my existing providers.XML file in the custom folder.

I ride with a few people through remote areas and I see things I'd like to know more about and want to look in to later but I can't stop, take off my gloves, set in a waypoint.  I know locus can add audio to a waypoint.

What would be the best is an audio command like "Hey Locus save audio waypoint" then it begins recording my voice for 20 seconds then saves and goes back to the normal screen.

I have asked on the locus forum and apparently the Tasker app might be able to do this but I could never get anywhere with it.

Recently I was surprised that all this can be done but it takes a bit more effort.

I created a contact on my phone "Tommy" and set it to the same number on the phone.

"Hey google share my location with Tommy" will autoinsert location in to a text, then "Send"

"Hey google send message to Tommy" will open a message field and I can dictate a message, then "Send"

"Hey Google open Locus map pro" brings you back in to locus.


So when I get home I open the texts and cut and paste the coordinates in to locus create a waypoint and enter the text based on the following message using the time stamps.

So this is a bit of work but in the course of a day there might be 5.

Does anyone know an app that can do this better or a google voice command that would create a voice to text message with location attached or even a voice audio message with location attached??

Or even a way to launch video recording that will record my voice and it doesn't matter the image...but have a location in the video meta data?

...or a way to do this within locus???


Ps...I believe this will work offline...if not using email instead will.

have not used in a while.  I downloaded the new build of the adventure theme from https://www.dropbox.com/s/vsixefhwv26v42j/Adventure.zip?dl=0

the file when downloaded was a folder and I thought it was supposed to be zipped so I zipped it on a Mac using 13.2 then copied the zipped file in to the themes folder.

Then started locus and it freaked and flashes in orange the attached message.  I then restarted locus no change, restarted phone multiple times no change, then removed adventure.zip and no change.  locust continues to flash this?

anybody know how to stop this?

I received 100 gpx files and some text and pictures that explain them.  I don't think it's possible but can I attach a picture or text file or embed additional text within a folder???...not the individual gpx files.  if not it would be a good feature to have a repository for attachments that is also backed up.

Using locus for motorcycling I had a tough time seeing the screen in direct sun so I set out to get a brighter phone.  I could spend $800+ for an S22 or $100 for an LG G7 ThinQ which has an amazing 1000 nits IP LCD screen so I am trying that.  The first one had brain damage on android 9 and I had to send it back the 2nd one has a normal brain seemingly stuck on android 8.

Does locus function fine on 8?

If so, will locus continue to function fine on 8?...or will I need 11?

Petr was kind enough to get this working as an online maps source earlier this year so the layer could be downloaded for offline.  Then recently it stopped working.

It took a bit of trial and error but apparently USGS changed some names of folders when they put up the newest PADUS v3.

If you want this layer in your online maps list (downloadable for offline) add the code in the attached xml to your list in the providers.xml file and add the png.

I think Locus should have this source in their base providers list at install.

I had to move phones and managed to get everything over using a full back up and restore but it did not bring the WMS list.

1.  How do I copy that over?

2.  How do I edit names of folders and WMS links in the menu?

I recently went to the Mountain West Overland Show here in Colorado USA and had a conversation with one of Gaia's top devs.  I told him they seem to be more interested in expanding map content and not fixing the basics.  I explained that I preferred Locus but do use Gaia on occasion as the maps are second to none.  I then told him why I thought Locus is superior, this was in a crowded booth so it was a bit dicey....anyhow he was nice and said they will be fixing the basic stuff.

Now the other day we decided to run a new area here and I could not get Locus to display even close to the map data that both Gaia and Caltopo serve up with just one click.  See this https://youtu.be/0NSlu4lerN0

Somehow maybe Petr or someone can get MVUM to work as an online map source like he did with FS-Topo or as a WMS layer as he did with Public lands/BLM.

I can get altitude to color the line properly but not slope unless I try to enter values manually and it's still not what I want.  I tested other tracks and it works on them.  How do I get the line to be colored with red as uphill and blue as downhill with darker shades as higher slope angle???  Used to work fine?  See attached gpx.

Anybody know a map that can show the outlines of the states well...not hard to see lines.  I'm surprised google is so weak at this.  I did find a way to import tracks that draw the outlines...this worked well except it slows the entire phone down and therefore makes it unusable.  overlay somewhere?

I took a 7k drive recently and ran locus constantly except one day the phone ran out of power and went dead.  I charged it and restarted locus and figured I had lost @200-300 miles.  That night I looked at the track and there is no gap???  How do you do this?

I'm trying to get Hitta Frilufts working as a provider xml or wms???

Anybody know the correct syntax?  yes I have seen the Locus guide on making these but my head boils just trying to read that...I wish there was an easier way to get these working.

Attached is the map in Guru and Cartograph.  In my travels almost anything that runs in Cartograph can run in Locus.
