hi,

for some time i ask myself if there is an option to use opencyclemap data without downloading the map data from ocm servers. i already asked andy allan if there is an option to use ocm data for symbian devices (there is none, so i got myself a galaxy ace and downloaded locus). before using locus i tried mobilegmaps with mgmapsmaker or mobileatlascreator, but ocm is no longer supported by any of these map creators (for good reasons).

i already know about the vector cyclemaps, but imho these have some disadvantages (not displaying the "matching" city names; quite ugly etc.), so for me there is still no alternative for the opencyclemap.

as we all know, traffic is expensive for map hosters. so why don't we share dumps or backups (best in sqlite-format) of opencyclemap data  in order to relieve opencyclemap servers? it could look like openandromaps.org or geofabrik.de, with separate files for some regions. i would like to do this myself, but a) i cannot see a way to download ocm data (even if i want to share it) and b) i don't have the skills to do such a backup.

does anyone know if there is such a project of sharing opencyclemap data (in a locus-compatible format)? has anyone yet been engaged in this questions?
if not, how likely do you see this idea to be realized?
