Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.5.+ ( 1. 12. 2021+ )
« on: January 14, 2022, 09:38:17 »
I'll look at it, thanks.

Unfortunately, for more than a year I was not updating necessary build tools like Android Studio and many libraries around. But now it is necessary and I'm already more than a week stuck on it. Seems to be some technical problems in a few core-libs I use, so I communicate with other devs and try to solve it. Waste of time and no interesting updates = sorry. I'll publish and inform you about the new Beta as soon as possible.

Menion, I was wondering:
You're not the first to suffer under Google restrictions. I know quite some apps that offer a "Google-impaired" version on Google Play, and another without those restriction on their website.
I mean, I'm not an expert on Android development, but if I remember correctly, you can request any Android right from the user if the app is sideloaded. So you could tell the user: "Play version only allows to store map and other extra data in internal app dir. If you need to access data stored anywhere on your system, please install the version from the website (sideload): <link here>".
Wouldn't that be a compromise to appease Google and the power users at the same time?

New version 4.5.5 is available on the Google Play.

Change in the A11+ file-system > check app settings > Misc > File manager and enjoy it ;). And please, do not forget to keep in mind (we will be writing it everywhere) > we have a temporary exception!! from the Google team. Temporary for how long? No one knows. So we have to prepare, it will end one day ...

Locus Map Pro is currently in the verification process ... we'll see how things go ...

@michaelbechtold
It is not for the first time I discuss with someone (not just you  :)) a slower starting time. I'll try to prepare some better logging mechanisms and let you know once it will be done.

@luce
it works! Perfect!
1. App should know system settings value so it should correctly restore this value after the screen is turned off. I'll look at it closely, thanks!

2. Hmm I tried it only by gesture and I had a feeling it does not work correctly at all. Thanks for info, so it seems I should spend on this a little more time, good to know. Thanks for the test!

Discussion/New features / Re: Android 11+, changes

You are right, Tapio. But a lot of flexibility is lost, isn't it? It is no longer very pleasant.

Hmm ... these were a damn hard two months for me  ::)

Final version generated (almost identical to the latest Beta version) and published for 10% of users on Google Play (Locus Map 4 only). On Monday, where there won't be any serious problem, I'll publish it for the rest of the users.

Thanks for the help as usual! I Hope, you will excuse my pauses in answers, the file system took almost all my time.

Discussion/New features / Android 11+, changes
« on: November 26, 2021, 12:13:57 »
Hi guys,

there were not too many changes in the Android itself during last years, that affect Locus Map. The big one was of course battery optimizations  :o.

And now, tadá, we have another one as most of you know.

A11+ devices bring a limitation in access to the device file system. Task, which firstly was not looking so complicated, in the end, took more than a month of work for me and half of the Locus team.

I started this topic so I may answer and discuss any changes that the next update brings independently on the main app version topic(s).

----

Summary
- app can no longer access the root of the internal memory directly, only over very limited so-called "Scoped storage" access. This brings some limitations. Mainly fact that the neesd to move its main directory to the private storage (/android/data/...). Also no support for the custom "srtm" and "mapsVector" directory, no support for custom "geo tagged photos" directory, and no support for "external maps" defined over the app.

- app can't directly detect installed apps, so the content of the function panel may be limited

---

Michal is already writing a bigger blog post & manual for a better understanding of these changes and how to solve the most common use-cases.
You may watch the creation process of the main manual page in progress here.

Feel free to ask here, I'll gladly answer.

I'll also today finally publish the new Beta version where all these changes will be presented.

The pattern (at least) is 4 very experienced users now report the same issue. That's a good start.
I created a Helpdesk entry for it:

@WujTom
some modifications of track screen are promised from me, I just can't promise when this happens  :-[

@T-mo
thanks for the video. I can hardly anything do with it, but I'll try to look at it ...

@luce
good point, thanks, I'll look at it!

@tapio, @balloni55
interesting, I did not notice anything un-usual. Anyway give please a try to just newly generated version MapGooglePlay_4.4.3.12_1044_beta. Thanks.

In the route details. Can I move the "hide" button to the bottom bar?

I'm more thinking about and option to put these buttons into function panels - but this also is not so simple task  :-\
yes please - vote for https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/25808-add-zoom-buttons-to-list-of-function-panel-buttons
If they could also stay on map... I prefer the way it is now. Because outdoors, I permanently show the bottom toolbar - which has important other elements. But hey. I should get used to that doubletap-drag zooming.

So many ideas because of three tiny colored dots  :)

@tapio
the issue with a refresh of the track: thanks TODO

With a dual centering button, rotate icon should really be visible, it is intent. With this solution, you may simply disable rotation without affecting centration.

If "dual-mode" needs an extra rotation button was discussed a half year ago a lot and yes, it needs  :).
Good sample: center, start rotating, move with the map - now disable rotation in case you do not have this "rotate" button.

@balloni55
ah, dot attached to centering button in case, rotation is disabled and dual-centering button is enabled, is a bug, thanks

@luce
ah, the clickable area behind ... not so simple task => is this really needed? I'm more thinking about and option to put these buttons into function panels - but this also is not so simple task  :-\

Rotation mode
I also think that icons should not be so obtrusive. Some small "A", "M", symbols should be enough. I'm waiting on our graphic.

But, the indicator is needed from my point of view. If the map rotates by the GPS, it may not be clear that rotation is enabled. Also if you start rotation of the map manually, it may not be clear that the map won't rotate by sensor anymore.

@Žajdlík Josef
thanks, as I wrote to @balloni55, the dot attached directly to the big centering button is a bug, thanks!

Suggestion: point away. the compass needle red, green, gray.
I would prefer the compass needle in the centering button. But where to turn it on and off?

I'm just trying to solve few remaining issues with the sensors so on Google Drive is a new Beta version.

It also contains preparation for the icon badge for the rotation button. Currently, it is only a colored dot (grey - disabled, red - automatic, green - manual). Final icons are in preparation.

I Hope, this version also fixes the issue with rotation reported by @luce. Btw. there already is a transparent area around the zoom buttons that should prevent accidental taps on the map below. Seems you need an even bigger area  :).

Seems everybody is enjoying sunny/rainy weather (that is at least now in central Europe), nice.

Fortunately seems that I did not miss, because of the small holiday I had, nothing important. Fine. So enjoy summer  ;)!
