Other features / Re: Online search

@Andrew Heard, @luce: There is an important distinction: Places named "supermarkt", "laundromat" and places that actually are a supermarket or a laundry room.
 - As some of you pointed out, Locus "object repository" does not contain laundromat as a place for washing clothes. The notion of points of interest in Locus so far has been: Laundromats are not that important in the hiking/biking context. I am not overly concerned about missing "objects" - points of interest. A few millions of poi can be added quite easily. Why there are still some - we combine results from our service and some third party service, which is inconsistent, sure we know it.
 - What you do in the video: You search for places named like "supermarkt". It is the name which is important here. Not what it really is.
 - Try to type "shop", "super", "gas", "petrol", "diesel", "emergen" (or some similar german words). You will get some suggestions, like Supermarket, Gas station (category, all of them) e.t.c. Click it and then you get "overlay" of all supermarkets (Tesco, Billa, whatever name). Not places that are named "supermarket", but places that are supermarkets.
 - There is no assumption that you don't mean search by a name if you type and hit magnifying glass. If this is not clear, that means an important UX message.
 - It would be not convenient to search for nearby fire pits, shelters e.t.c by name. Usually, there is no name.
 - It would be not convenient to search for "Riffugio Auronzo" by browsing all accommodation.
 - It would be confusing to mix both approaches outlined here IMO

Small question. Where is the legend file for openandromaps Elevate is located? Is it a pdf?

I would like to replace it with an own one.
I want to create one which includes only the parts I'm interested in.
It is a PDF. Is in the themes folder at Elevate

Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.14.+ ( 1/2023 )

@joeloc
with Locus Map 4, you may hide everything except @ symbol. And this one will be semi-transparent with the next app version. This is ok, isn't it?

Downloading speed for OAM maps: hard to say. I've increased mentioned buffer a little, so let me know if it helps. Anyway, everything on the background is quite new so there should be no software slowdown.

@CabrioTourer
auto-load of V4 maps does not work? Hmm ... (after some testing) ... it worked before?? Do not understand how this was possible. Anyway, I've found a method how to make it work so the next version.

Important: because the next LoMaps will be also based on the V4 theme, I've improved the auto-loading system. The app will auto-load only LoMaps when the base map is LoMap and the opposite. So it won't do a mess by auto-loading incorrect maps (maps with different content & theme). Needs testing though.

@Andrew Heard
Duplication of presets > oki, next version

@Tapio
intent to start recording: blame Google! Anyway  ;) ... check app is not battery optimized. Probably best to open the side track recording panel. There should be no!! blue box that informs about battery optimization. Then it should work.

New version with some fixes tomorrow.

Just a quick info from me > sorry for the delay in answers this week. After 10 years, we were moving to the new office (again in Prague), so this week was more about this than some useful work. Next week will be better and I'll for sure answer all questions & problems. Thanks for understanding and have a nice weekend!

Quote from: Andrew Heard on February 21, 2023, 21:09:11I WAS able to revert to public 4.14.
Please give me a hint how you did it.
@CabrioTourer backed-up settings, uninstalled beta, unsubscribed as beta tester in app store, installed public 4.12, ran LM & logged in, restored settings, restart, all good.

@menion - I've done many LM backup/ restores over the years, and this one is least trouble - no trouble! Well done!

Quote from: Andrew Heard on December 23, 2022, 01:50:28So it doesn't get backed up at present? A pity there is no way to edit the no-go points/ handle them as any other user point.
It was once addressed so that the No-Go points in the points folder get its own folder. There are also 2 suggestions on the subject.
https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/add-special-folder-for-managing-all-nogo-points
https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/add-waypointmap-no-go-points
With this solution, they would then also be secured.

@slarti76
hmm, so another attempt with a "split track". In case, the track "Creation time" will match first trackpoint (this means recorded track), "Creation time" for each new track will match the time of its first trackpoint.

Ah, same as @Tapio suggested later ...

@balloni55
Bottom buttons > I'm testing on an older (and really small) Samsung S2! and it works correctly. So I've added few log events into the code and create me a log with the next Beta version (end of the week) please, thanks.

Memory problems > this will be hard. @jordyke wrote that he is not using geocaching so it won't be probably connected to caches. I'll need to test it on more devices and find the core (just moving with map? Track recording? Navigation? ...) what causes this issue.

"Add X point" good idea, I'll look at it thanks

As a developer, I would prefer 250m, done.

Locus Map / Re: [APP] - version 4.12.+ ( 09/2022 )

Quote from: CabrioTourer on October 24, 2022, 12:30:53Just a small suggestion. Pretty often I moved an existing point in route planner without an intention. Thats my fault. But the warning that the route can't be calculated hides the undo button. This makes the handling which such faults a bit time lengthly.
Can you move the warning to some other position?
A function has been introduced so that such messages can be closed more quickly. I think it should work here too.
Short click was it believe.

@tapio
right, currently regex "search" works only for points & tracks filter

@arnor
hmm, the problem with Dropbox > app should refresh the required access token automatically, but when this does not happen, please try to logout and login again (top three-dot menu in toolbar), thanks

@baegas
thanks for the log. I see that the app tries incorrectly read RTCM messages, so I've for now disabled some "message analysis". It should work in next version, thanks.

@freischneider
Because of optimizations, the compass should be disabled when the screen is off. Anyway good point, I'll look at it. In the worst case, I should at least disable rotation animation, so it should happen instantly.

--- TASKER ---

I'm also not skilled too much with tasks, so maybe it should be interesting to discuss this in a separate topic(s)? Feel free to create any ... and I've created a board for this here.

@CabrioTourer: Quick Bookmark is something you can add to Locus toolbars/menu.

Additionally there's Falcos Tasker plugin. This one offers another possibility to start Tasker tasks. Since you can send arguments with quick bookmarks, I start map position dependent tasks from there. Not position related tasks from the plugin menu.

Quote from: CabrioTourer on July 17, 2022, 22:10:31Could you explain me how you connent to tasker? The only way I found was with Secondary Tasker App which is very limited.

Much easier way... And you can pass %par1 and %par2 into tasks just as in "Perform Task" command:

tasker://assistantactions?task=MyTask&par1=whateverArgument&par2={mapLat},{mapLon},{mapEle}

You may be interested... I'm sharing useful GPS related stuff up on Taskernet, eg. Pluscode, Latlon format converters, or a geopos calculator.

Indeed but my needs are just simpler. It's hard to touch the right button while riding.
For me a placeholder which does nothing, just to separate the active ones would be helpful.
@CabrioTourer - indeed x 2 - I've have similar ideas in multiple help topics over years (including dummy "placeholder" button) but not enough votes. Although more work (for @Menion), being able to space out buttons in a custom dashboard (including Zoom buttons) would give you ultimate user-control of placement. Thinking further ahead, these custom dashboards may even be shared via Cloud Sync, and templates available from the Locus store.

@menion - regards 4.10.0.9 beta

  • "support for com.mg.raintoday" - how to test?
  • "improved own icon in Live tracking" - see 1st attached - icon is painted before the track so mostly hidden; I recall months back suggesting icon is painted over track for better visibility & you agreed? maybe
  • bottom saved track info panel - top of 2-row track name is truncated; may be a recent issue - see 2nd attached; I don't recall this happening before

@tapio
thanks for the other test of the dashboard. Damn ... so next attempt, sorry for this.

@luce
align of a content button & zoom buttons > thanks, improved. Small buttons are now aligned to "Map content" button. Big zoom buttons now, but here it does not seems to be so visible = no problem. Btw. nice usage of the "grid"  :D

Scale view > good point, fixed.

@CabrioTourer
ah, M4a was not considered as an "audio" format. Should be fixed, thanks

Not working link > thanks, the problem was in "comma", fixed

@balloni55
Hmm, this is weird. And without NTRIP you are able to get any sats & accuracy? If so, what happens when you enable NTRIP a little later (once you will have valid fix & sats)?

@baegas
If you long click on the app main menu, there is an option "Log to file". If you enable this option and try it again, app should create a log with more info in the Locus/logs directory. This file should help, thanks.

@Andrew Heard
The dark compass button was really a problem with the current red rose. Because of this, I've left it white for now.

@T-mo
- hexagons in semi-transparent buttons > weird right? Some issue in the Android library that is visible only in case, buttons are semi-transparent. I was trying to find and hack on this > but no success so far.

- "lock button" > hmm almost invisible, good point

@luce
search, well ... I do not think there is a need to explain anything. Search is bad in the app and it is something we will work on this!! year for the app and also for the web. What you see is the combined result of the search of the selected search engine and also our own online LoPoints (colored symbols). Thanks for understanding.

This will not change route length (still 84.4km) but
calculated time dropped to 1:47h. This should not happen bcs route doesn't changed.
Well, technically the time should be at least a few seconds longer, because a waypoint is supposedly a stopping point, so you have to break and afterwards speed up again.
Ok, joke aside, at least I can understand why the result of the underlying algorithm would not be exactly the same. Of course it makes no sense that it's shorter.
(and yeah, I'm working in the train business, where stop-or-no-stop is quite a factor...)

After importing the gpx into the route planner, some attached Shaping Points are now automatically offered in the Locus route planner.  I had a first test...sure works pretty nice usefull.

- By the way, you can also set Via Points as the default in the Locus route planner Settings.
- Only Turn and Via points lead to navigation alerts and give distance values @ navigation.

The planner point placement is random. It's hard to do otherwise since the (recorded) import track NOW is not yet matched with the BRouter osm data.
That will come later and that is precisely the final task that you want to accomplish by using the route planner.

The advantage is, if you now reposition one of the shaping points or create an additional one, you will not suddenly change the entire track loop (based on the imported track) total unexpectedly.
In short, you will only change a small segment at a time, possibly still drastically and unexpectedly ;-)
These unexpected larger deviations are of course also influenced by the selected Brouter routing profile in use. Select this as correctly as possible according to you expected usage.

Now it concerns only a small segment piece and so you have better control of it to produce your route as an "osm map matched track" slowly but controlled this segment by segment.
If you have the original track import then also presented in a different color then you have a perfect guide to accomplish this task quite comfortably.

I see that you also briefly mentioned Kurviger.

In Locus, the Shaping Points are only used as route reference points during the production of a map matched track route traject.
Once in the navigation and also by means of the gpx transfers this useful info is completely neglected and thus almost completely lost.
There is still a residual associated track point left but this is hardly reflected or found in the very large numbers of track points.
If you then also use Locus autorouting to point in the navigation, the useful shaping points are also not available anymore as point targets.

The big difference with the (imo) superior Kurviger results are therefore as follows:

Both the Via Points and the Shaping Points are neatly stored in the navigation as well as in the .kurviger file transfers.
In Kurviger the Via Points AND the Shaping Points are both planner router references as well as Targets in the navigation.
The autorecalculation in Kurviger is always directed to either a Via or a Shaping Point. Ready and clear known targets.

The difference is this.
A Via Point is announced in navigation both by audio TTS as well as visually.
A Shaping Point (= a muted Via Point) is therefore NOT announced.
Promoting a neatly kept Shaping Point to Via Point or vice versa is so very simple
