Thanks !
Did a testdrive today - very nice. Agree: no more finetuning needed !
Thanks again for implementing :-)

Vector maps working very fine for me (generated them with osmosis - working fine even with an low end laptop for files in 2..300MB range).
One effect is recognice is that i have to activate the vector map every time i restart locus. Same for the magnification - is always starting
with 4km range and i have to press + ...  not a big issue but would be convenient if settings would be same after restart than before.
Is this by intention - or do i configure someting wrong ?
Widget is working fine for me. Cool to start a track w/o going nrough locus. Working fine also when i switch off and on again.. Usye Froyo ROM (Floyo 1.4).
For downloading vector maps i would prefer to do this on the computer.

Thanks for permanently improving the app !

Propose to let user configure the point where the actual position is shown.
For biking, trecking it would be useful to program the actual point to e.g. 25% of screen hight (y-axis) -
then you see more in the distance you are moving and less where you come from. Think this is only useful
in map turning mode (which i prefere in hiking).
Could be a settings configuration allowing a percentage input (50% as preset like today) which i could set
according my usecase. For non turing maps (fixed north orientation) this would be more difficult: you could
use the direction information and change the actual point according;  but i doubt if this is very useful as then
when you change direction the map would move...  So my proposal is to just go for the turning map situation.
best regards

Other features / Re: vector maps

not sure if my question relates mor to vector maps or file format - so put it in both discussion threads:
With the upcoming option of using vector maps (tried yessterdy the testvertion - already great !): following maps could be a good option:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_ ... n/Download
For example at: http://downloads.cloudmade.com/ there arte lots of actual cards based on OSM in this format.
Used this data when i was stil on Windows Mobile device using "Glopus" program. Glopus could read gmapsup.img files.
Gave a lot of nice options - e.g. there werde overlay files for having altitude lines for europe,...
Started to play with osmosis - but not so easy with small PCs ... and not so easy to generate subsets of countries (e.g. plan a vacation in Canada - but whole country will be very large file - with cloudmap i can download just a state like NovaScotia..)
Not sure if this format can be used / easily converted to the mapsforge format - but would help a lot to avoid having all maps for the world beeing on servers in differetn formats , but based on same OSM data..

But having vector data is a big big step forward ! Thanks a lot !

Yes they are all free ! That was why i was active in the early time on OSM (running around like crazy to map my area..).
Incredible how many really good data are meanwhile available for free - second best example for open data besides Wikipedia.

So if you have "spare" time i would go for an widly spread format like this .img. But beeing no developer i have no feeling
how difficult this rendering would be - or if code for this is available out of the OSM community (at the end the pixel data
beeing imported in locus are online rendered as far i know wich each request).

Was fascinating to have an whol country (with all details - every footpath) in 2..300MByte.

but nevertheless:  thanks for this very nice app !

Implemented / OSM Vector Maps

Great app - just found it some days ago.
What would be a great additoin for me is the possibility to use vector OSM maps.
Like in: http://downloads.cloudmade.com/
These .img files contain the vectored data and are verry small in size. These format is
widely used and can also be used by Garmin GPS devices. There is an Android app
available which is using similar converted vector data "Map Droyd"; but uses proprietary format
and does not have lots of features (no tracking...). Also not seen an updat for long time.
Not sure how difficult an renderer for vectored map data would be to impement.
Used in my Windows CE times (befor i went to Android) an app "Glopus" which was
supporting both pixel data as well as vectored data.
