Discussion/New features / Re: Update of map core (2019)

I dicovered that seems not be able to display WMS maps!? Maybe it's just the map I tried, but current pro displays it just fine (although with very tiny text). Is this to be expected in the Alpha or is it a bug?

tested ...crash in theme chooser with vector overlay map still present, see my screenshot here:

Therefore, my question again: is it intended that you get to chose the theme you want to change (base or overlay map) if a vector map is overlayed with a vector map?
In current pro, you can only change the theme of the base map and no crash happens.

right, autoloading works this way. First selected map is something like "base map" and all other "autoloaded maps"  are just added into some kind of inner container. So you will still see first selected map. Which, as I though about it, is correct ... highlighted and also restored after restart, is still the map you selected.

Ok, understand. I just recognized that the behavier is different to the current version.

Two vector maps at once as overlay: do not expect too much from it. If both maps will be V3 or V4, they use same single instance of map theme so cannot choose different themes for them. Anyway I do not get any crash so I'll need a log here, thanks.

I don't know if this is useful, either...just played around a bit because you wrote nearly all combinations are possible now.
When I did this and wanted to change theme, I got a selection what theme to change (see screenshot). However, in both cases, Locus crashes. Is it intended to have this selection or should it be removed and only offer theme change of base map (as it is in current version)?

I now also tested online raster maps with alpha and it is a huge improvement! Nicely readable now!

As I already wrote as a comment to the blogpost: I would be happy to pay for an abo to support the great work of the Locus developers.
At the moment I pay for updated LoMaps from time to time to get new version of the POIs (to use with OAM-Maps). I always felt a bit guilty for not spending more to support the developers.

In the german thread some fear that Brouter offline routing will be only available builtin in the abo version of Locus 4.0. Are there any plans yet how Brouter will be supported? Only builtin or will it also be possible to call external Brouter app as it is implemented in current version?

I also gave the alpha a try...

Automatic Map switching works for v4-Maps now - nice! However, the map which was switched to is neither displayed in top bar maps display, nor in maps manager. There's always displayed the originally selected map.

Another thing: if I configure a vector map as an overly of another (or the same) vector map, the theme switcher shows a selection of which map's theme to change (nice!), but Locus crashes if I tap either of them.

Overall, great progress! I definitely think it's the right way to go, especially with the dpi-independend maps display!

Beta crashes upon application termination. An interesting problem. Beta works seamlessly. But after closing the application with the Back button, an application termination error message will shortly be missed. Tested on Android 5 and 8. I tried sending an error message.
Also confirmed on Android 5.1.1!

Manual drawn parts in Routeplanner are nicely handled now!

this sample does not work for you? Do not forget to set "Package"

Ahh thanks for the example, of course it works! I must have been blind to not see this in the list of supported functions, although I searched it before...

In general, is this the preferred way for HW-Buttons interaction now? Will the method over config.cfg be deprecated in the future?

If you are familiar with for example Tasker application, you may already use it. Documentation how it should look on Locus Map side is published here.

I'm familiar with tasker. I use a NFC-triggered Tasker-Task to start recording and custom livetracking and apply a preset and activate a dashboard when my phone is mounted on the handlebar of my bike. So I guess I'm also quite familiar with the Action Tasks. However, I don't get from the documentation how to activate this "quick actions menu" from tasker. Maybe there is a new undocumented value for the "function" task?

Hey menion,

in the last version's beta some guys found a nice little "quick functions panel" which could be added to the top or side panel. It is also present in the current Beta but not in Pro as far as I can see.
You said it was published by accident and was meant to be activated by hardware buttons only.
I am very interested in this feature! Is this already possible in current beta? If yes, how to enable it in config.cfg? I assume I could trigger it with bluetooth hid device?

I'm not so much interested in adding it to a panel, but it should not hurt anyways?

Are there plans for a v4 maps version?
Would be nice since Openandrompas will stop producing v3 maps mid 2019.

I would also be very interested in a v4 version!

Thanks @john_percy for your feedback on the special Locus enhancements!
There is a main thread for mapsforge v4+ development now...but I'd like to keep this thread open because it's about themes and I think not all v3 themes (especially the themes which use locus-specific enhancements) will work with v4 library.

I guess we have to wait for menions actions in the next months and try themes again when there are new (beta) versions available...

Themes - Vector maps / mapsforge v4 themes for Openandromaps
« on: December 14, 2018, 13:41:56 »
According to this blogpost on (, OAM plans to stop producing v3 vector maps as of mid 2019.

Fortunately, Locus is able to deal with v4 maps (provided as "ML" - maps from OAM) using the standard mapsforge v4 library (without the Locus-specific enhancements like automatic map loading). Btw.: what other enhancements does the Locus v3 implementation offer compared to the default v4 implementation? I remember something like rendering speed optimizations...what else?

The other thing is themes...currently I use some really nice Locus-specific themes I don't want to miss. I'd like to start a list of OAM-compatible themes and the availability of v4-versions. I try to update the list when I or others find out more details...

Ok thanks, thats ok for me! I just wanted to make sure that there's not something wrong with my generated gpx files.

I don't know if it is specific to this version, but there seems to be a problem with showing details of imported gpx tracks when there are newlines (\n) in the <desc></desc> part of the track.
There is an infinite scrolling and/or flickering visible in the track detail screen under the description text.

Imported points from gpx files with newlines in the <desc> seem to be displayed ok!
