It would be very powerful of locus could read or import geotiffs directly. It is an old format but very universal. I haven't tried importing custom rasters yet but I will be looking at this in the coming weeks.

While the open SQL raster is berry efficient and powerful if locus could read geo jp2k files directly it would be very cool. Jpg 2000 is an efficient wavelet compression and I believe an open format. I have been horsing around with converting raster formats for mobile platforms.for 15 years and having a mobile mapping program that you could just drop your own custom images on would be a game changer.

Other features / Re: WMS recommended maps

I am very impressed with the development of this app. Outstanding work!

There is a great wms service for Alaska - imagery improving all the time and everything on it is allowed to be downloaded and used offline. I do it all the time at work with ESRI products. I have tried it in Locus and the service works great.

Looking forward to being able download tiles and save them on my Android. I have been using HTC phones for a couple of years and just ordered a tablet so I could get more serious about mapping In Android.

Glad you went to a pro version. By far the best offline GPS app.

Under review / Augmented reality improvements
April 10, 2011, 02:26:35
First off, want to compliment you on an incredible app.

I really like that augmented reality is included with the app. Nice to switch between views top down and the augmented view. It would be really nice if altitude worked in augmented reality so if you were looking at a hillside you could visualize points. It may not be in their actual location but in a relative scale. I guess you would have to control the scale of your view, say 50m to 800m for a close hillside but more like 0 to 6000 if you were looking at points representing distance mountain peaks. I can make some pictures to show what I mean.

OK, that is the big idea. There are a couple of other things that would improve the AR view. A scale that shows the direction you are looking. Just rough N S E W would be good enough. Also if you are in a vehicle the compass does not work - if you are above 3 or 5 kph how about getting the direction from the GPS instead of the compass?
