The battery level can be displayed. That should actually be enough. There's no point in including that value in the GPX file.

For me the opposite is the case. One big thing is to try to correlate battery usage with support level and elevation. For that I need a recording in whatever format (why not GPX).
I thought about building a logger myself (nRF connect logs, but chokes with all the data after about 10 mins), but just logging the BT data does give neither position nor elevation. It is super frustrating to see that all is there in LM, but not saved!

Disappointingly, although battery level is displayed for EP8, it is not logged in the GPX.

I also did a very quick check in the cellar. Battery works, but support level only shows "OFF" or unknown. Will have to test on a real ride.
Interestingly, I just have started collecting data for reverse engineering using nRF connect and had Claude write a parser for it. Great news that no longer seems necessary!

Same here... I hope to log battery level together with some other metrics to with some confidence predict how to get 2000 m of elevation out of the battery.

Very interesting! I have a Shimano EP8 EMTB and would like to log at least battery level.
As explained above, Shimano does not release the protocol details, but there are a number of reverse engineering attempts out there. A quick look with nRF connect reveals that the SC-EM800 publishes battery percentage as standard BLE characteristic and more info in a custom one, which is more or less straightforward to decode.
So it looks that I'll have Claude do an adapter app for me - any thoughts?

Made some progress. I was able to open the map PDF using Inkscape, disable all non-relevant elements (map legend, map background) and save it as PNG.
Then used the image calibration tool with a three point calibration, which worked OK.
Managing the calibrated map is pretty difficult, hard to find the relevant menu entries.

I would like to import a large PDF map in LM.

How could I do this? I have seen older posts on this topic, but there are still open questions:
First, georeferencing is not a problem. The map containts the map grid, so aligning this with the official map (see https://s.geo.admin.ch/l7f3sogztawu for example) should not be a problem.
Then the question would be how to extract the map itself from the PDF. The background seems to be bitmap (which I don't need as I could overlay them over LM or Swiss maps), but the trails are vectors.
I guess if I would want to extract the map as one single bitmap, it would need to be around 5k-10k pixels wide in order to keep it legible.
Can LM handle single bitmaps that large or would I have to tile it?
