Themes - Vector maps / Re: Editing theme in desktop

Well, it makes me sad then. In this case I leave theme modding be, and accept what it is already released :)

Themes - Vector maps / Re: Editing theme in desktop

Thanks, do people in mapsforge/openmaps also do themes like this way? It would be counter productive per efficiency in a company for which maps are a daily task to do.

I analyzed XML theme and it is simply a mess :(

Themes - Vector maps / Mapy.cz theme - where to find?
September 13, 2024, 15:38:15
I think mapy.cz use great theme maps. Their look is clean, easy to understand and just neat. Is there any theme based on the look of mapy.cz?
Unfortunately locus does not allow them as online provider so I thought about giving such look for vector maps?

To be clear I mean a "touristic" theme.

Add-ons & Co-apps / Re: Brouter route quality
September 13, 2024, 15:34:05
Quote from: Menion on September 12, 2024, 08:13:40Hi,
this is quite a complicated question that depends not just on the profile, but also on your preferences in certain situations.

In the case of BRouter available in the Locus Classic, you have to experiment or ask on the BRouter forum.

I may suggest trying some online routers, like the official BRouter web planner or our own planner that uses identical profiles as Locus Map 4. It may help to easier find ideal routing profiles for your tours.

Thanks, is it limitation of LM Classic or Brouter that it shows only 1 route and no alternative ones? I've read some Brouter docs and it says there should be alternative ones as well.

I will use Brouter online again for test purposes, wish there was some GUI instead of writing the code of which not everything is covered by docs anyway afaik :)

Add-ons & Co-apps / Brouter route quality
September 11, 2024, 12:25:58
Hello,

I use LM Classic thus version 3. I use BRouter as well however either its route logic is terrible or the route profile.

I am trying to achieve:

- biking profile, mostly a normal bike not some mountain type to jump over the rocks
- to have some logic in it

So far I tried in-built profiles and some custom on BRouter-online but their results are quite bad.

1. Why does it lead some cumbersome way? How to avoid such stupid route calculation like here on the picture? How does it think that it is better to drive like this?

2. Locus/Broute - reroute calculation in case of detour is a mess. It can break like showing some wrong recalculation or it insist going back instead of recalculate it from the point I am now at the moment.

3. I used "trekking" calc for a route from Zlate Hory to Biskupska kopa.

I trusted it and it lead me by complete rocks and steep like 15 degree which obviously is hardly for any bike.
Why didn't it follow the most logic way - road and maybe in the last moment some walk in harder terrain?

I am tired how navigation in Locus/Brouter works, is there any good biking profile which could be smart, logic enough that it could make routes in a better way and make Locus recalculate a route from the actual point than saying I need to back?

engine of the Locus Classic and Locus Map 4 are almost identical, so it won't be only a Classic limitation.

Check please these suggestions, maybe they should help to you as well.

Anyway yes, map rotation slows down the map engine.

Can u say what is more important for the render speed? I tweaked my kernel, cpu and gpu. When I rotate a map without rotation enabled it is more or less 50 FPS, and CPU cores used 20-50%. With rotation enabled FPS drop to 15-20 and CPU usage is also 20-50% - averagely a few percent higher per each core.

It is not 100% cpu so what is the bottleneck here?

Hello,

is there a way to avoid so many directions guides in navigation? Look at the screens below. In many cases the road was straight - I don't need to be reminded to go straight at every each crossroad. It should say to change the course only if I need to turn left/right or so. In Google maps u don't receive notification for each crossroad you pass by.

Also if there is a small change of road (look at the picture B) then this shouldn't be taken into account, as I go straight anyway - it is a bike, not a car so such small stuff can be omitted.

Is there a way to limit this only to these directions where I actually change direction in real?

Hello,

not sure if this is a bug or perhaps just LM Classic limitation without hope of fixing but on my Note 10+ phone (which was a high end league) LM can lag if a map rotation is enabled (map rotates according to the compass). I bet the frame rates drop at half, surely below 15 frames.
With disabled rotation it is much smoother.
Is it because a vector maps rotates and LM Classic engine is slow?

Guys I want to customize a theme which was by the map (androidandromaps). I read the thread and there is really no real WYSIWYG editor for this? All just manual copy paste, hex color codes ect? How so that there is no easy tool just for xml edit?

Quote from: Andrew Heard on July 29, 2024, 04:48:20@Forsberg - interesting observations thanks. I haven't looked @ OsmAnd in 9 years. Interesting re 3D view. LM4 does already have online connection between POI & Wikipedia.

3D view is handy. Especially if you are at some hill area but if it is flat it is good as well. It seems to be more natural view than directly from the above.
Here some comparison of more or less the same area:

Interesting that LM4 has online POI connection. Does it work well? What I am looking for is that I select example a category "touristic" and it shows all monuments, squares, famous places, castles ect so a tourist could visit. Osmand has such a feature. In Locus I have to download manually all POIs or KLM routes with saved interesting points. It is tiresome tbh.

I haven't switched to LM4 due to many reasons, mostly because I see no huge progress from LM3 Pro (Classic) like:

- if vector maps rotate (u select map rotation according to the compas example) then names of all places can be unreadable because the text is upside-down.
- UI is meh - it seems to me it is a step back - some more customization like panel arrangement (dock and undock, change position like in Osmand) would be welcome.

I see some progress regarding rendering speed - LM4 renders vector maps faster than Classic - it is nice. Also, it seems the search function finally works. Not sure why devs keep Search in LM3 Classic if it is completely useless. I type a shop "lidl" and it shows me some stuff thousands kilometer from me. In LM4 it shows all shows nearby as it should.
Unfortunately those two things are not enough to me to switch, even if LM3 is de facto abandoned per new functions. I guess I will wait for LM5 then :)

Quote from: Menion on January 27, 2023, 08:24:47Hi guys, interesting discussion. I've moved it to "Free chat" category where it belongs I believe :)

Anyway, are there any serious advantages of the OsmAnd compared to Locus Map? Some time ago, OsmAnd was made mainly for navigation and nothing more. Over years, both apps have more and more in common, but both do things in different ways.

But because I've never used OsmAnd (what a surprise  :) ), I'll be interested in the major advantage you see in it, thanks.

I am a long time Locus user, recently tried Osmand+ just out of curiosity.
Locus per se is definitely faster in terms of map rendering. I use LM Classic and vector maps and they are definitely smoother than in Osmand. However I see some nice points of Osmand which could be useful in Locus:
- 3D view of the map is useful - really is :)
- online database for Wikipedia, points of interest - very handy if you go biking to another city and just pass some points by - u check some of touristic places and then they are shown on the map. I don't see that in Locus at all.
- maps are slower but they tend to do look better or at least their themes seems to be refreshing. Also their text rotate, in Locus text is fixed.
- Osmand search is a lot better. Locus search function is terrible

Locus is generally better, Osmand has some strong points mentioned above though. Both are good for outdoor activity, Locus could have better UI though - it can be clumsy and LM4 is no better in this, bah I even think LM4 interface is worse than Classic.
