Hi community,
I just want to share the procedure to use a simple smart band as a display for some locus data while hiking (ex: current elevation, hiking distance, distance from target and so on...)
Smart bands cost few dollars and are lot more confortable to wear respect to a wear-OS watch.
I was interested in displaying on a smart watch some locus data while hiking, to avoid each time taking phone from a pocket, but I do not want spend hundred of dollars in a dedicated equipment or Wear OS watch.
I finally accomplished this task with a combination of apps, few dollars of cost each and a cheap Xiaomi smart band.
The key app is "Notify for Mi band", but this procedure could potentially work with all xiaomi, huawei or amazfit bands with dedicated app of same author.
Then you require Tasker and its Locus plugin (Locus Map Tasker Plugin by Falco Schaffrath).
A basic knowledge of tasker is required to create a profile with the relative task.
The final process would be:
On smart band do a swipe, then press a button of music player, this would send a intent via bluetooth to the phone intercepted by tasker, tasker fires a task that retrieves some of locus data via plugin, then the same action could create and send a notification on smart band with data requested.
I use a very cheap Xiaomi Band 8 active, 15-20$ cost, and its display could show at least 8-10 parameters from locus. I use this procedure to show current elevation (not GPS/baro but precise altimetric data of locus), traveled distance of recorded path, elevation traveled up and down and so on...
The cost of the 3 apps required is inferior than 10$ total.
Setting up all would be a few minutes if you know a bit tasker, you have to use "integrations" panel of Notify app, activating tasker slide, then use "button actions" to assign a numbered slot for tasker intent.
In tasker you have to make a profile triggered with the specific received intent corrisponding to number selected in buttons actions, then associate a task that retrieves all the data of interest from locus, there are at least 50-60 parameters to choose, and finally make a notification via Notify Plugin to the smartband that contain all the retrieved data.

Please let me know if I have to detail better any of these steps, I can post tasker code also.

Yes, I agree that adding map selection and overlay with its options in presettings will solve this problem.
Why not so many users asking for this? I think that many locus users are unaware of the possibility to have vector maps trails with satellite background.
Each friend or hiker I show the OAM maps with sat background ask me how to do this, you clearly view all trails and paths, with elevation curves/POI and the plus of seeing terrain type with lot of details that are not present in vector maps background.
But sometimes satellite background is dark or same color of paths and you have to view normal vector maps background. So the need of quick shifting between the 2 maps with overlay settings linked.
I don't know if shadowing is applied over sat images if left on, but I prefer to disable not to slow down the app.

I tried in locus map classic to long press the blue rectangle button at bottom left but nothing happens.
This is the button that open content of the map with map selection, layers, themes...
Maybe this trick is only for locus 4 and not classic version...

Hello community and developers, I spent many hours searching forum or tweaking the app without success.
I use locus map Classic, and I have to switch often between 2 maps: Offline OpenAndroMaps with shading and satellite online map with an overlay of the same OpenAndroMaps with removed background and no shading.
The result of this switch is changing the background of the OAM with satellite image. When hiking this is very useful to look at terrain type and references: rocks, woods, meadow, buildings and so on.
I found myself switching dozens of times to check satellite background and then back to OAM to have a more clear view of paths. This changing process is very slow, impling switching maps, then activate overlay, then removing background of OAM and turning shading off. A lot of taps and time.
Presets will be the solution but I can't set map or overlay inside them. Is there any solution to make this map change less cumbersome? Is there some set to link an overlay to a map?
Many thanks to all
