Title: Easy to create your own map from JPG using MAPC2MAPC
Post by: David on July 31, 2011, 13:43:50
Hi All,

For your information, the author of MAPC2MAPC just released a new version which seems to work perfectly to generate your own maps from an image file in Locus.
http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/ (http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/)

The procedure is described in the link below and it uses Google Earth to generate a KML file to calibrate the map:

Hope this helps!
Cheers,
David

Thank you for this info! Looks like this runs only on Windows? No Mac/Linux?

The introduction of the website looks a bit complicated, one of my methods is this:
1,Find a map in any image format and follow the actual scale as much as possible.
Pictures can come from scanning or taking photos or downloading.
2,Use OziExplorer to add latitude and longitude positioning to this picture;
3, Finally, use OruxMapsDesktop to generate map files (sorry, I forgot the specific format and details, but I believe it is easy to find).

FYI.

Well, that looks like quite an old post... is that method even still viable?
Yes - have a look in the FAQ:
