Title: Web planner / portal
Post by: Menion on February 12, 2021, 20:32:44
Hi guys,
I would like to finally introduce the website we worked on the whole last year. Finally ...

Web planner / portal: https://web.locusmap.app

Core features
Without login or for the users without the Premium subscription
For users with the Premium subscription (same as for free +...)

What (we are aware) is currently missing

Onřej (@janaton), the guy behind this nice tool, is looking forward to some useful feedback. Use it please together with the new 'MapGooglePlay_4.0.0 - Beta 6_988_beta' version, otherwise sync won't work auto-magically.

Well, that's all ... let's play  ;)

So on quickly:
1) will there be other types of maps?
2) Is there a chance for a stat stone (day / week / month / year)
3) view of calendars with marked journeys. so it's easier to search for the route you want to display if there are many of them.
4) adding route points, e.g. a monument to visit or a shelter?
5) elevation plot of the route (as I understand from the description in preparation)
6) possibility of synchronization (tapiriik.com or www.fitnesssyncer.com)

The popup login screen needs to close upon successful login - attached. I didn't realize I had successfully logged in until I discovered my tracks in My Library.

When I close/ re-open web.locusmap.app while logged in, it would be nice if previous location/ zoom was restored like brouter.de/brouter-web.

It would be nice "down the track" if the web router and app could display (reverse lookup), when available, a road name instead of GPS lat/lon for each via point - attached. PS from itinerary click +, search for name, and the road *is* displayed instead of GPS lat/lon. But can the search for name begin it's search in local area instead of world-wide search - attached?

Web router performance/ UX is fast and reliable. Hopefully other Brouter features will be brought across in due course ;-)

For example, is there a need for a shaping point icon in each route section? With Brouter you just tap/ drag any point on the route to move. If two via points are widely spaced while modifying the route section, the shaping icon is unlikely to be nearby, whereas with Brouter this is not an issue.

Changing profile doesn't result in a recalculation. I guess these are all features in the pipeline.

So far, an excellent start.

(PS. clicked the Post button & lost all my edits, luckily Back button worked. I think I had attached the same file twice. It's hard to tell because the Chose File textbox is unnecessarily short. The forum error msg was unhelpful too. nup - experimented with duplicate attachment on 2nd attempt worked, hmmm)

The webplanner doesn't work in the Safari browser on a Mac or iOS (iPhone 12). No map is shown.

Good news.
The page works without any lag.
The point deletion can be done only with the side panel, I prefer a right click on the map on the wrong point.
There is not "no go" circle like in brouter.
The statistics panel is very poor, lacking, for example, the elevation gain and there is no elevation chart with the via point listed (locus style).
It is wonderful to be able to generate the track, save it and synchronize it with the smartphone. The statistics of the saved tracks are richer, it would be enough to make them active while creating the track with the planner.
But it is not possible to modify the saved tracks with the webplanner, the only modifications are name and description.
it's a great start, great job!

Thanks everyone for your time to give us valuable feedback. Most of your points are already on our roadmap. Currently, our priority is to release V1, fix/improve most critical findings and then summarize and prioritize our list for V2 (marking as v2 but we will deploy features continuously as they are tested and ready to use).

@WujTom
1) Additional types of map are planned but we have no ETA right now
2) Stat stone - this is a good idea. Not planned in the nearest future but we would like to cover this topic more generally and also introduce this not only to web but also into the app.
3) Related to previous point
4) Route points - V2
5) Elevation chart - V1(depending on time)/V2, in V2 other types of charts
6) I can not answer this - @menion?

@Andrew
1) Popup login - I am not sure if I understand correctly. SSO login screen and login dialog should automatically close after succesfull login. Is this working differently or you would prefer some "Logged in succesfully" message displayd?
2) Restoring last location - we have discussed this internally and we have mostly agreed that almost each time we plan route in different location thus remembering last location is not really a benefit. If there is enough votes we can add this as optional settings.
3) Reverse lookup - we know, this is not the best behavior and should be improved in V2
4) Search - again, we are not 100% happy with current behavior but we use external service and do not have much control here. I hope we can also improve this by deploying our own service (hopefully V2)
5) Shaping point - this is technical debt which should be improved as first things within V2
6) Changing profile - you can combine multiple routing profiles within one route, thus no automatic recalculation should happen on profile change. What is missing right now is possibility to change profile of already routed segment (start of V2)

@didado
Thanks for reporting! I will try to fix this ASAP but we have limited possibility of testing on iOS so for some time you will probably need to use Chrome :-/

@lor74cas
1) Point deleting - should be implemented most probably as context action on right click
2) Nogo circle - not planned right now and we will need to discuss this internally (V2/V3)
3) Planner stats - we will definitely improve here in V2
4) Modifying track on web - this is definitely on of the first tasks for V2 ;-)

I'm logged in, but unsynched. On Chrome/Android on a mobile. Wasn't able to save a planned track. It seems to require a folder, but there is none. Wasn't able to do anything then. It locked Chrome in a way I rarely experienced. Had to go to the Chrome app page in order to stop the Chrome process.

On a smartphone, it needs a possibility to hide the lower area, ie only full screen map. Otherwise planning is not fun. No good overview.

It doesn't make sense on the phone either. You can use Locus right away. The web planner only makes sense on the PC?

You may be right  :)
For me in order to use it on PC, this web planner has to compete with brouter-web - hard task. E.g., web planner starts with a very zoomed out view... wheras in brouter-web I can save and share a track (and many properties) via the glorious URL "command line" system.

I mean like:

Code: [Select]
http://brouter.de/brouter-web/#map=11/51.3214/8.0495/standard,HikeBike.HillShading&lonlats=7.954102,51.363207;8.114777,51.333615;8.048172,51.293654;7.91153,51.271317;7.928696,51.337868&pois=7.925949,51.309112,Test&profile=hiking-beta

+1 for Elevation chart  (critical for rout planing)
and
+1 for additional Maps  (Need für MTB scale here)

For small corrections: It would be nice if you could bevel the line and drag it to another place.
I want a card theme from OAM. Satellite map and OAM map.

@janaton for me SSO login screen does not automatically close after successful login; I have tested with Vivaldi & Chome on Windows 10

2) Restoring last location - we have discussed this internally and we have mostly agreed that almost each time we plan route in different location thus remembering last location is not really a benefit. If there is enough votes we can add this as optional settings.
no real benefit for those on the default map right? For those that live elsewhere in the world there is absolutely no reason to see the whole map of UK/Europe each time they go to the router home page. It should be unnecessary to pan & zoom back to their country, let alone location, each time they log in.

For me in order to use it on PC, this web planner has to compete with brouter-web - hard task. E.g., web planner starts with a very zoomed out view... wheras in brouter-web I can save and share a track (and many properties) via the glorious URL "command line" system.

@tapio precisely; everything I test with the new Locus webpage is in comparison to BRouter, but for new Locus users this may not be so important

Hi Menione,
1) the displayed map does not distinguish between a cycling route and a cycle path, see scr.
2) the planned route has the same color as the cycle paths and cycle paths. See. scr.
3) It is not possible to recalculate the route when changing the profile, but you probably know that.
4) Question. Will the scheduler be able to work with his own profiles in the future?

@tapio
1) Folder required - Good finding! I was expecting that user firstly syncs folders from his device. I will improve this and at least add some info text.
2) Locked Chrome - This should not happen. At least within company no one reported this behavior, yet. In order to investigate I would need steps how to reproduce it.
3) Smartphone usage - Web planner is mainly dedicated for usage on big screens (desktop). We try to make web planner usable also on mobile phone but to be honest it is not the top priority for us right now. You will always have better experience using dedicated LocusMap app for planning on mobile phone (Android).
4) Properties in URL - This is high priority for us, too. You can expect this soon in V1/V2. For now you can use "Share" button to generate planner input URL for you.

@jajaballard
1) Elevation chart - High priority, comming soon ;)
2) Additional maps - AFAIK currently not on our roadmap for V2 (we need to check licensing terms)

@freischneider
1) Drag&drop segment editing - Yes, this is
2) Additional maps - see few lines above (@jajaballard)

@Andrew
1) SSO - Please, could you send me exact version of your browser so I can try reproduce it? Btw is this happening also in private mode (I can think of some plugin doing this)?
2) Default geo location - Actually web planner should ask you for the permission to use geolocation service. If you grant it then web planner should automatically change map to you coordinates.

@Žajdlík Josef
1) I have forwarded this to @voldapet which is the creator of new online LoMap. Dedicated discussion here: https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7191.0
2) Good point. I will discuss this with the rest of team.
3) Recalculating route segment - Yes, this is known limitation which should be solved soon (probably V2).
4) Custom profiles - we definitely want to introduce more advanced options. But this is currently in the phase of collecting ideas and will probably happen not as part of V2.

@slarti76
1) Track editing - Yes, you should be able to load your saved track from MyLibrary into web planner in order to modify current one or save it as new track. This will be implemented in V2. Advanced track editor is not planned (e.g. removing particular points, adding breaks, ...).
2) We are planning quite flexible system of displaying geo information on the map. But this is in "idea" stage. I understand your concern but I do not want to promise we will improve this by some "temporary solution"
3) Zoom - we end in zoom level 19 (the same as OSM). Out ouf curiosity - why do you need higher zoom?

@lor74cas
1) I do not understand what hyperlink you would like to have here. We plan (V2) to display LoPoint details in dedicated tab (like MyLibrary).

Ok, but still, the same way that the current planned track is saved when you switch to "My Library", the current selection in "My Library" should be restored when switching back from "Plan". That's not just "temporary", but UI standard...

Quote
3) Zoom - we end in zoom level 19 (the same as OSM). Out ouf curiosity - why do you need higher zoom?
Wouldn't say "need". I just had a track with some fine detail and couldn't zoom in on it to really see all details. I would say, in terms of maps, Google Maps should always be the reference, and there I can zoom in to a point where roughly the same width on the screen is 5m that in Locus is 30m. So ca. 2 levels more.

One more thing: I didn't log out yesterday and then opened the planner again today. Under "Account", instead of my email there was an empty area, and below "Logout": When clicking on "My Library", it was empty, but no error messages. After manual logout I could log-in again and then everything was fine.
But I think there should be some "you have been logged out due to inactivity" message or the like.

@janaton as I said in the previous post, with (latest) Vivaldi & Chrome on Windows 10 (Home). I hardly ever use Chrome; it is just there for testing really; completely default settings.

Vivaldi 3.6.2165.34 (Stable channel) (64-bit) no blocking enabled; however geolocation blocked
Google Chrome Version 75.0.3770.100 (Official Build) (64-bit) default settings

2) Default geo location - Actually web planner should ask you for the permission to use geolocation service. If you grant it then web planner should automatically change map to you coordinates.
Correct, I had blocked geolocation in Vivaldi. When I change to "ask" or "allow" the permission is asked. When I click Yes, the default euro-centric map is still displayed. Chrome didn't ask for this permission. But anyway, I don't see why it should be necessary. It may not be my physical location that I want, just restore the previous location. Just save current lat/lon to a cookie? eg. http://brouter.de/brouter-web/#map=16/-42.8384/147.3049/standard. BRouter always restores to the last displayed position with no drama.

1) I do not understand what hyperlink you would like to have here. We plan (V2) to display LoPoint details in dedicated tab (like MyLibrary).

If I find some interesting points on the map and I want to investigate more, it'd be useful something like a click on the title and a search for it in a new tab
Title: Re: Web planner / portal
Post by: lor74cas on February 18, 2021, 14:43:12
If a part of the route has to be covered several times, it becomes difficult to enter points:
1) I want to create the point 8 between 2 and 3
2) Right click does not help, there is not an add or insert option
3) As workaround, I have to create the point 8 near and than move it in place

@slarti76
1) My Library remembering state - Ok, now I understand. We will improve this in V2. This is a little bit bigger change and no time for it till V1 is out :/
2) Zoom > 19 - I will discuss this within team
3) Missing email in the account - this is strange. Honestly I have no idea how it could happen. Please, if you experience again, could you, please, check JS console (typically Ctrl+Shift+I) if there is some error listed? Thx

@Andrew
1) SSO - thanks alot. I was finally able to reproduce and it is already fixed. This version should be deployed in few days.
2) Remember last location - we have already discussed this. I will try to re-open discussion in our team ... but it will be probably implemented in V2

@Žajdík Josef
1) Maps - there is dedicated thread for online LoMaps (https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7191.0). Please, ask there. Webplanner is only consumer of these maps and I have no control of it ;)
2) Navigation instructions - this is a good point. I have created ticket for this improvements for V2

@lor74cas
1) POI detail - there is POI detail tab planned for V2 where additional information should be displayed (contacts, opening hours, wiki, ...) We already have most of the information in our DB ... waiting for me to implement UI
2) Route modification - I totally understand and I am sorry for this. As I already wrote, we are planning drag&drop modification of track which should solve this pain ... unfortunatelly because of tight schedule it will happen in the beginning of V2

It is necessary to be able to create straight lines manually.

It would be nice to be able to edit the text of the points in the field where the coordinates now appear, to insert more user friendly references.

@lor74cas

If I create a route by hand drawing, it is not possible to select "Activity type" when saving. The route cannot be saved without it, but it can be exported to GPX.
Title: Re: Web planner / portal

As the number of points increased, I noticed that it would have been appropriate:
1) A dedicated scroll for the points panel with the last inserted always visible
2) The statistics panel always visible at the bottom

Now for me after 10 points (depends on the screen resolution) the stats and new points are progressively moved down becoming invisible without using the scroll.

Thx a lot! It is definitely a bug. I will have a look ASAP

@lor74cas
1) Dedicated scroll - We are aware of this problem. We already have collapse/expand of middle points functionality in our plan. Unfortunately, because of limited time&resources we have this on our list for V2.
2) Solution mentioned in previous point should also solve this problem

In this week we will test (internally) our subscription system which will cause unavailability of services requiring active subscription (synchronization, accessing MyLibrary in web planner, saving planned route to MyLibrary, ...). We will try to keep this testing period as short as possible. Thank you for your undestanding

The two marked panels in the attached image need to stay fixed in position. Only scroll the waypoint list.

The top panel needs to be accessed a lot. Every time the auto-plotting won't go the right way then manual plotting is required to get past the problem area.

The bottom panel is accessed less often but it would be good if it was always visible.

The Outdooractive route planner works like this.

I plan travel points with one way to travel (on foot or by bike). And how to turn the same route into another way? Now we need to re-create everything. And there would be an opportunity e.g. change between points 1 and 2 and so on.

Export Gpx -> filename not editable the name is fixed to "export"
The points I put on the map to generate the track are exported as waypoints, but they are not. I think that the generic points with just coords in panel does not have to be considered as waypoints, but if I use +add to route on a relevant point on the map or (in future) I edit the coords in the panel with a more human readble text, this are real waypoints also to be exported.

this are real waypoints also to be exported.
No need to be BRouter web copy, so add (future) Locus specific features such as:
- Easy add multiple free postioned poi waypoints, this in a nice most compact gpx wpt list.
- In the export gpx file attach and keep ALL user valuable design routeplanner waypoints info, so all these points can perfectly be reimported into the Planner.
- From non announced Shaping to announced Via Point or vice versa by a sym change.
- Future. Add individual routing segment profiles info into the Via or Shaping destination points.

1. Export "not announced" Shaping Points by: Free(empty)<name>&<cmt>&<sym>name_change&<type>Shaping. (rte pointaction 2)
2. Export "announced" Via Points by: Free(empty)<name>&<cmt>&<sym>pass_place&<type>Via. (rte pointaction 50)
3. Add the track navigation info direct into the trackpoints and so keep the poi waypointlist perfectly clean.
4. By that @ Locus import you can safely separate the waypoints and a track without damaging navigation.

The web planner doesn't work well set to walking, but does OK set to hiking. I screen recorded the issues which you can see in this video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g88qnkugianhn1w/Locus%20Map%20web-based%20planner.mp4?dl=0

@geoffmozz
1) UX issues with higher waypoint count - Yes, we know about this issue and we will improve this in V2.
2) Issue with walking profile - thanks for pointing this out! I have passed this issue on college which is responsible for routing profiles.

@starka
I am not sure if I understand you correctly. You can change direction of planned route by clickin "Reverse direction" button that is located below waypoints. If you want to plan one way using one profile (e.g. walking) and then reverse route and use another profile for way back (e.g. bike) the it is not possible right now. We are working on functionality to change routing profile of the segment. But you will have to wait for V2

@0709
Thanks a lot for the detailed description and examples. I am not able to give you answer right now because more time is needed investigate and also ask other members of team (I am not really expert on GPX).

@lor74cas
1) Not editable filename -> Is it really issue? You can easily rename file once downloaded ... For sure I could add logic to generate name (current time, start and destination - can be tricky one) but I didn't see any big benefit doing so.
2) Which waypoints to export - this is a good point. I have created ticket for it and once there is some time I will discuss this with others.

Hello,
It is useful for the messy ones like me who leave everything in the download folder. To give the created file a useful name to identify its contents, I always have to open the folder and rename the file, it is not very convenient. By pressing the export button it would be better to simply ask the user for the name, there is no need to take the information from the points, the track or the map to suggest one, you can leave "export" as default, but editable by the user.

  • Elevation chart for planner (comming soon also for My Library)
  • Sharing your saved track from My Library using URL (only for Gold premium subscribers - subscription will be possible soon)
  • Several smaller bug fixes and improvements ..

I like it, good job!
Can you make a list of what has already been reported and that you will include in the next versions, so we avoid reporting the same things again?
I haven't been able to sync for a while since it requires a premium account so I can't test the "My library" part.
I have seen the annual prices: 0/10/24. I think 10 is correct, but 24 for some such specific features is a bit too much even if I understand the expenses you have to incur for the management of these services in the cloud, it is more than double the pro version of which it shares at least 75% functionality.

The web planner doesn't work well set to walking, but does OK set to hiking. I screen recorded the issues which you can see in this video: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g88qnkugianhn1w/Locus%20Map%20web-based%20planner.mp4?dl=0

Thanks Geoff,
both walking and hiking profiles have been adjusted to accept all SAC difficulty levels. Walking profile puts high penalty on higher difficulties, so difficult (dangerous, exposed to fall) paths should be chosen as "last resort". This solution is not perfect, as difficult terrain may be unexpected to a "casual walker". We consider some sort of warnings for these scenarios. More detailed discussion on routing is here: https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7202.30

Note that I have intentionally involved hard SAC limitations, originally developing the hiking template based on the user demand for senior people to avoid difficult routes.

Progressive penalisation and SAC limitations  can be applied in parallel , depending on profile configuration.

- progressive penalisation of higher than desired SAC lever
- either hard no go above maximum SAC level
 - either very high but passable cost for forbidden level, like configurable costfactor 9000 for "forbidden" SAC level, as it was in the original profile.

Keep in mind that current Locus modification in LoWalking profile involves undesired possibility
a short enough but difficult segment will not penalize the route enough to avoid it for a person not accepting the challenge of given difficulty.

How can I currently use the web portal with my data (as before)?
I only see the information "Subscribe to Premium Gold services".

However, how can I subscribe the mentioned "Gold services". I do not find any possibility.
LocusMap V4 is installed on my smartphone, but the premium button seems not to be activated?

1) Editable filename of GPX export - thanks for the explanation. Yes, it makes sense. I have created ticket for it.
2) List of reported issues/features that are planned - yes, I will try to do it ... but I am little bit lazy in this kind of work. So hopefully, till the end of this week ;)
3) Pricing - this is the decision made by team and several calculations. I am not the one that should explain it ... but we tried to keep prices as low as we could to be certain that we are able to pay our monthly expenses. So, it is very tricky to compare prices only with respect to functionality ... and ignoring the cost of infra.

@gps2003 Subscriribing to "Gold services" - Oh, we are really sorry. According to our plan there should have been available pre-release version in Beta channel with working subscription since Friday ... but unfortunately we are having difficulties pass Google Play validation process. Hopefully, it will be released soon. Right now there is no way how to subscribe, sorry fro the inconvenience. The CLEAR X button needs a confirmation pop-up.

The central red dot on the map and the + sign in the panel do the same thing. How about using the one in the panel to change the drawing mode (from hike to bike, for example)?

Hi, synchronisation of only userdefined folders/groups - is it something you plan? I'm totally interested in having specific folders on the web planner, but I absolutely do not want to have it all up on 3rd party webservers...

- Can you make the top navigation bar auto hide and only return if mouse moves to top area? Then, together with Browser+F11 we could have total fullscreen planning joy.

- An easy way to delete waypoints without having to use the left area is missing. I am having the left area collapsed mostly.
Thinking of BRouter-Web, where clicking (a waypoint) just toggles between create/delete.

- The red and blue lines - I think it's hiking and cycling routes - are too disturbing, I have problems noticing my planned track..., I wish we could define the opacity. Overall I wish for a more wide range of the well known themes.

- I wish shelters, viewpoints, picnic sites and whatever rest areas could appear earlier, on zl14 maybe. They are crucial for longer tracks planning. Maybe add some more flexibility on what POI types to display. Favourite POI types preserved over the sessions. Or maybe something like a "display 2x size icon" option. Easily spotting the POI which are of personal interest is crucial for fun in planning.

- Will you add "round trip" to web planner as well? Here's the openrouteservice web planner with a round trip for inspiration: https://bit.ly/3rgmtJT

Not sure if already mentioned:
Switching the profiles is not triggering recalculation of my route.
Title: Re: Web planner / portal

@lor74cas
1) Waypoint remove (X) button needs confirmation - I am not sure here. IMO it is not so easy to remove waypoint accidentally and confirmation dialog could be really annoying
2) Changing profiles - yes, this is definitely missing feature and I am really sorry that it was not part of V1. I plan to add it really soon and it will most probably work as onclick on routing profile icon.

@tapio
1) Synchronization of userdefined folders/groups - this is absolutely something we should consider. Right now it is not on the readmap but I agree that it makes absolutely sense to support this. I am creating ticket for it
2) Hiding top navigation bar - again great idea! I am not sure about auto-hiding it but I get your point. I am also creating ticket for it
3) Deleting waypoint from the map - and again great suggestion. I didn't realize that planning with collapsed sidebar could happen a lot (you miss calculated stats, ...). I will create ticket for it but I am not sure that clicking on waypoint should trigger delete. I would rather add "Delete" as contextual action. What do you think?

@jajaballard
1) Switching profiles no triggering recalculation - yes, this is intended behavior. You can mix routing profiles during planning of one route ;)

Please, be aware that I can not promise any ETA for suggested improvements right now. We have a lot of items in our backlog and we will proceed according to priorities which are changing constantly.

I think keeping it simple is good, please compare with brouter-web. Left-Clicking to make it disappear, Rightclick for context menu, I think it would be good. But a "delete" context menu item would also do...

As for hiding the top bar, maybe just add a blue "collapse" arrow also on top. Compare https://maps.openrouteservice.org - they also have an arrow for the top bar, plus initial auto hide. This way it is user initiated and no problem.

Ok, this may be one valid approach. But I'm not able to change my bike e.g. from "Road" to "MTB" during the real ride.
So I like to switch the profiles with recalculation for an actual plan to identify possible alternatives during the planning process.

http://brouter.de/brouter-web/ currently has a superior UX in my experience, which is fair enough, because it has been around for a long time now.

With talk of "tickets" in the system - is there a ticket for restoring the map to previous position/ zoom when the web page is next opened? As mentioned a few times the default Euro-centered map is quite annoying to a non-Euro user. At present, but hopefully not for too long, BRouter is the model to admire here ;-)

I do observe just in last day or so the web router URL now supports lat/lon/zoom as querystring parameters - excellent.

See also https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/23762-expand-this-help-desk-system-to-handle-the-new-web-router - otherwise how can users vote/ suggest new features in a structured way.
Title: Re: Web planner / portal
Post by: tapio on March 25, 2021, 13:14:54
Yeah query string in URL is zoom and map center only, but it's a good start at least.

I am usually planning new tracks while seeing the old tracks, which is not possible with web-planner. Created https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/23769-web-planner-display-multiple-tracks
I don't like the preview in the track listing in "My Library". I think it is unnessecary space wasting. Groups and folder listing looks good though.
I created a helpdesk entry because it is lacking embedded WP... https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/23770-support-for-embedded-waypoints

Blue official hiking/bike routes - blue own tracks, in the screenshot you can see, it's just not ideal. Visually confusing.

I would have a few suggestions to improve web planner.
1) The statistics section of longer routes is not visible. I suggest moving it on a separate bookmark for the cant graph. Either it would be a graph or statistics. Alternatively, just give it to a small font in the header of the cant graph.
2) Add to graph cant Also, switch to slope (percentage of climb)
3) Add the ability to save your own planning profiles to your account. Or synchronize them from the phone as well as routes. This would probably be the best.
4) Add the option to change the planning profile by clicking the profile symbol.

In my opinion, the planner stats is missing 2 important values for any hike: elevation gain and loss.

I also noticed that the planner map (see left) favours the cycling paths, while the Lo maps (on the right) is richer for hiking (I am using the Planner for hiking)

I tried the web planner to make a route in Åndalsnes in Norway and discovered something strange:

First, great work with the web-planner. I'm looking forward to further enhancements.

One question: is it intentional that the height-graph is only shown for tracks which are currently planned, but not for "old" tracks synced from the phone (although they have height-data)?

And are there plans to also make the synced POIs visible in the webplanner? Would be great to have e.g. POIs of trailheads available in the planner.

Hi guys,

thanks a lot for your feedbacks and ideas. As you probably already spotted, we finally officially released LM4 for wide public. We can say we have LM4 app in the state which we wanted for its first release, but truth is that this is not really case for Web planner. We are aware of many missing features/updates which we wanted to include to first release, but time was against us.  On another hand we for sure believe it is already far better than nothing.  ;)

That being said, we have huge list of priorities which we want to handle and which should solve lots of your complains or implements your mentioned feedbacks. Because of that, we decided to leave BETA sign on its header for some time.

In the long-term, we have quite a lot of ambitions with our web portal so be sure we will keep rushing to make it better, its public release is just the beginning for us! Don't hesitate to keep your reports and feedbacks coming please - this of course help us to check we have our priorities right or help us to update our plans (here or even better to: https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/all/status/all/category/30/sort/new_updated/page/1). Also please don't forget that web portal is set of various big and "independent" feature sets, so if you find something strange for example on online LoMaps - like Trump playing golf ;D - better report it to its particular topic (https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7191.0).

Regarding some topics which were already mentioned:
1) Not recalculate route when you change main routing profile is intentional to allow you to quickly change it during route planning while keeping previously routed part of the track intact. We will for sure try to find some solution to make it more obvious and option to recalculate whole route if wanted.
2) Ability to easily update routing profile of individual route segment will come soon.
3) Behaviour of routing points on left panel will be tweaked to not loose route statistics from the sight all the time when you put more routing-points.
4) Graphs will of course be not only for planned routes but also on other tabs and will contain a lot more data.
5) Another big topic for us is already mentioned ability to show multiple content from various tabs on the map to allow you for example plan route while having your previous tracks or even somebody else's track on map. Definitely lots of plans there.

So wish us luck to bring it all soon.  :)

One of the most important things when you are outdoors is water. In the screens you can see that even if there are two fountains nearby, selecting the first search result which should theoretically be the closest sends me more than 50km away.

+ 1 to POIs in the web portal
+ 1 to map layers in the web portal
(see how Gaia does it)
Planning tracks in web portal (computer) is a plus, much more easy that in a phone or tablet. But many of us have lots of POIs and are used for planning.
Today only tracks are synced with web portal.
Also for planning an adventure map satellite layers are fundamental in the web portal.
Without those 2 upgrades web portal has very limited usefulness.
You are doing a good job
But you need increase substantially the development effort for a limited time, because now is not beta, is payed... And my evaluation of your effort changed dramatically with that little detail...

Thanks for reporting this. The problem here is: Currently the search only uses "names", so only the objects that have the term "water" or similar among their names in two languages ("local" language and "English" in this case) are found. The two nearby fountains are not named at all - "Drinking water" is the overall category of them. More complex search using keywords is needed here. It is already done internally. Sorting: we don't think sorting based on distance entirely is a way to go. More content (Wikipedia, user related) is coming, so "close calls in terms of distance" are resolved based on content.

Hi.  My first impressions of the planner (with Gold) are quite good!  A few thoughts:

It'd be great if the planner could start at the previously-used location, rather than Europe as default.  (Of course, I could just bookmark the URL.)

Trying to move from Europe to my city in Canada, I tried a search for "Edmonton".  The search icon never became enabled (does it ever?), and the suggestions that popped up for "Edm" as I typed all seemed to be for the displayed area, Europe.  By the time I'd finished typing "Edmonton, ab" (which my fingers automatically type to center OSM), all suggestions were gone and the search icon was still not enabled.  (Two different browsers and platforms.)  This is minor.

Unfortunately, the planner uses web fonts for widgets.  I disable website fonts for readability, and this forced me to find a Firefox extension to toggle the setting. I'll have to keep toggling every time I enter/leave the planner.

Now a crazy idea: geocaches as an overlay.  Groundspeak uses a predictable URL format, including an encrypted parameter string that appears tied to your ID but doesn't seem to ever expire.  This is the overlay used in their web "browse" map (http://coord.info/map).  I use it in JOSM (see attached) to see where the trails need more attention.  So...
Crazy Idea Level 1:  allow overlays with custom URLs.  (Security risk?  Don't know.  Useful?  Yes.)
Crazy Idea Level 2: offer geocaches as a special Gold feature, just click the checkbox ... with Groundspeak's cooperation of course.

...because many of us plan our routes from one cache to the next.  :)

1) Clean all btn confirmation - Yes, it makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
2) Use metres only for elevation gain/loss - We will consider it. Please, what is the motivation for you (precision, ..)?
3) Logged in but icon still anonymous - I do not understand. Please, could you give me more info: Thx
4) Elevation chart for saved tracks - sure, it is in progress and should be there soon.
5) Hiding top bar - Good idea, we will consider it but for now more important tasks are on the list :)
6) More accurate altimetetry calculation - this is more related to the routing itselft. Please, ask here: https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7202.0

@jajaballard
1) Switching profiles - Your use case makes sense. We do not plan to change the current behavior but we will try to find some way to enable recalculating all segments using particular profile

@Andrew Heard
1) Brouter UX - sure, this is also one of our inspiration source. Please, if you want to add some idea for implementation, there is newly created space for it. Please, add it there and collect votes :). - https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/idea/status/all/category/30/sort/new_updated/page/1
2) No preview - web planner is generating thumbnail only when saving planned route to your library. Preview image is synced from your device and used on the web. If preview is missing, it is missing and "No preview" is displayed

@francisco
1) Ideas - great, most of them is already collected here - https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/idea/status/all/category/30/sort/new_updated/page/1 so you can vote to help us prioritize :)
2) Increase development effort - believe me that there is quite a lot of development happening. Unfortunatelly, not everything is easily visible in the UI. Regarding webplanner BETA - yes, you are right that we have a lot of to improve here. On the other hand web planner is only one piece of puzzle of premium GOLD plan ...

@tapio
1) Showing multiple tracks - yes, it is planned. Thanks a lot for creating idea on helpdesk
2) Preview image - this was intended to be consistent with the app. We could consider optionally hiding it and saving some space. If you would really like this implemented, please, create idea for it so it can be discussed and collect votes (so we can give it a priority).Thx
3) Embedded WP - thx
4) Blue color of own tracks - yes, it is confusing. But honestly, it is really hard to find some universal color which won't clash with some color in the map and will have good contrast with the map.
5) Edit of tracks - sure, this will be possible. It is on our list but no yet implemented. The best way to put more priority on this is to create idea and collect votes  - https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/idea/status/all/category/30/sort/new_updated/page/1

@Žajdík Josef
1) Statistics of longer routes - This should be solved once collapsing of waypoints is implemented
2) Elevation/Slope - good idea. Could you please create idea for it so it can collect votes? https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/idea/status/all/category/30/sort/new_updated/page/1
3) Customized profile - this is something we would like to add but I do not see it comming in the nearest feature.
4) Change of planning profile - Already on our list and should be implemented soon
5) Missing solar power plants in the map - thanks. I will forward ti to the LoMaps author.

@gergy
1) Missing elevation gain and loss - this was already added so you can check it ;)
2) Detail of online LoMaps - I am not author of it. I will forward this to him. Generally, it would be best to ask in dedicated thread - https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7191.0. Thanks :)

@Frivold
1) Difference between online and offlien LoMaps - Ideally it should be the same map but there are a little different  source data that are used for rendering so some differences will be there. But I am not the creator of maps. Better to ask in dedicated thread for more detailed answer - https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7191.0
2) Holes in the map - known issue which was already reported to the provider of source data. We are waiting for the solution. Until then we can, unfortunately, do nothing about it :/

@zossebart
1) Elevation chart missing for saved tracks - yes, it is not a bug. This was not implemented, yet. This is one of my top priorities tasks so it should be available soon :).

@Viajero Perdido
Thanks :)
1) Start location - if you give browser permission to use your location then start location should be near you. Anyway we are thinking about improvement here (I - saving your last location to browser memory and using when you reload browser or II - automatically figuring out approximate location based on IP address).
2) Search - We had some issues there. Please, try now, it should work (finding "Edmonton"). But keep in mind that search gives preference  to results near your current location. So if you are searching "Edmonton" from Europe then you will need to write almost whole name to have it in results ..
3) Usage of webfonts - yes, that's true. I see it as a standard practice. Don't you have problem also on other webs?
4) Displaying geocaches in the overlay - I am almost sure that "using" Groundspeak data won't be possible. But I guess your use case is to see your points on the map (e.g. imported geocaches). This is planned feature and should come in next few months.

@dyoghenes
Thanks a lot!
1) Excluding navigation hints - yes, it makes sense. I have this on my list but it is not high priority for us right now. ETA could be months. To give it more priority, please, create idea and collect votes for it :) - https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/idea/status/all/category/30/sort/new_updated/page/1

2) The altitude is always expressed in meters, the height of the mountains for example is in meters the k2 measures 8611 meters I have never seen it described as the 8.6 km high mountain. It is a practice, for hikers, mountaineers, runners, cyclists ...

3) When I am logged in, in my case for example, the image / icon associated with my account on Google appears, the same one you see associated with my profile on this forum.

6) I was just asking, do you "use the 1" srtm files where available"?
Title: Re: Web planner / portal

I report a strange behavior in the elevation gain calculation:
1)in the web planner while I was creating my track the statistics panel reported 1.18 elevation gain.
2)After saving the trace in cloud the statistics panel has been updated to 1.68.
3)I then synced in the app. The stats on the device reported 1125
4)I used the altitude update function so I now have a value of 1024.

No value other than point 1 makes sense except at point 4 where I used the update function (I have the srtm 1" files on the phone). I would have expected to always have the point 1 value also at 2 and 3.

2) Profile icon - thanks for the clarification. I added this on my list
3) Srtm files - I am receiving elevation data from the routing server and I don't know what is used internally for the calculation. I have asked @Radim V so probably he can give you more accurate answer
4) Different elevation gain stats - there must be somehting really wrong. I have tried it to reproduce and I was not able to see more than 1 meter difference (rounding issue between browser and backend). Could you share particular example of track where this is happening? Thanks a lot

I therefore suggest you to update the data with the more detailed ones at 1 "where available. Your servers will not suffer from a few more gigs of space occupied and a few more seconds of CPU usage, but you will give a more accurate data to everyone.
In my experience of use, 3 "is sufficient for road use (car, bike), but in the mountains 1" is better if, for example, you walk on the edge of a mountain ridge.
After all, the app allows the use of 1 "srtm (for the user it is only a matter of space occupied) on the cloud / web instead we should always have the best option.

Sonny has provided 1" LIDAR based DEMs for most of Europe. And size difference is not some %, but a factor 8. That is costly, because most of the Locus users are from those areas in Europe ...
I think mountain freaks do know Sonny anyway, and know how to put those 1" files in place. Don't they?

Surely an old nerd, mountain enthusiast like me, knows how to do it on his phone, but it's not for everyone. Nor can I do anything about the data in your cloud, or maybe I can ?  ::)
"That is costly, because most of the Locus users are from those areas in Europe ..."
I can also read it this way: if there are many users who will benefit from it, then the cost may be even more justified.
But of course I see things as a user, I understand that as a company you need to evaluate costs and benefits

@janaton, thanks for the detailed reply.

Using a cookie to open the planner at the last viewed location would be perfect.  Using browser-reported location would be fine as a fallback.  (I disable browser location because VPN breaks it.)

Search is working well and I'll admit I won't need it much, if the app remembers my last-used location.  I just found it odd at first, that the icon never gets enabled.  It's reasonable.

Web fonts are just a minor irritation.  This motivated me to find a Firefox extension to selectively enable them for sites/tabs that really need them.  In my world, that's this app and one other site.  Anyway, not worth a redesign if you have other tasks in the queue.  :)

Thanks, VP

@michaelbechtold - but if that x8 more data is only on the Locus web server, not a user's device, then it is a win-win? The user gets better elevation accuracy when synced with online LoRouter routes and Locus can offer an even more compelling reason to use their online LoRouter & Live Sync, maybe even locked to Gold subscription?

The maps on the web portal are generated with the contribution of OSM. But OSM has by its nature a continuous updating of the maps, Locus instead has periodic updates. For this reason the last update date should be viewable.
The same maps whose paths have undergone changes, for example in the nodes, can give rise to changes in routing.
I made some changes on OSM that also affect routing, obviously on OSM they are applied immediately, while on LocusWebPortalPlanner not.

Only brief comments to older posts related to problems in online LoMaps
@Missing power station - we can't quickly fix it because the data are missing in source vector tiles (we use data from Thunderforest where the tiles are hosted)

@Holes in contour lines - the same reason as power generators. Online LoMaps are hosted at Thunderforest and we are limited by vector tiles provided by Thunderforest. Unfortunately, the source data contains these "holes". We know about other errors in contour lines in Himalayas or Siberia. We've already reported it, so I hope it'll be fixed ...

I only mention that we can customize the content for offline LoMaps but online maps depend on Thunderforest data and it can be complicated to improve the style or fix some issues.

Thanks, Petr

When https://web.locusmap.app is first displayed, or refreshed, the #1-point textbox isn't selected, so the mouse cursor is a default arrow icon instead of a cross icon. The user is therefore prevented from quickly adding their first point to the map, which is confusing. I suggest the #1-point textbox is selected by default.

Hi, I'm new in this topic and haven't read all posts (but have been using Locus for 10 years, now I'm gold and decided to add my 2 cents).

1. There should be personal points  option next to routes. You should be able to show all poits from selected folder as it is implemented in mobile app. You should be able to select any point as a start, via or finish of a planned route.
2. You should be able to show any set of selected routes on a map (as it is implemented in mobile app)
3. Edit route - not only details but the route itself as well
4. When you start to plan a route you default type (walking) is already selected and you cannot change type afterwards. IMO it's not user friendly.
For now my impression is that web planner is inferior to mobile planner and a map in mobile app. Inferior in terms of number of features missing and some existing features are better polished in mobile Locus. But first of all I like Locus and really appreciate your work, progress and direction! :)

There are always questions about things that are already planned. There are also some who say that it is useless because some things are missing and go back to Komoot and ....
Insert a menu at the top. There the settings and history (what was changed and when, improved. And one more point with Panung future. Many people are already doing this.
In the view for future plans:
1. planned in 4 weeks
2. later

This way you can avoid a lot of questions. And people stay with Locus and wait.

Sharing planned tracks that were sync'd from an Android, eg this one (https://web.locusmap.app/en/?shared_track=MWNlZTMxYTAtNGY5Ni00MzUxLWFmZDUtODYxNTczNWI1ZTk3OjdkY2MwMGI3LTkxNDItNDZiNC04MDQ3LTlmZjc0NjE3NzM5Mg..), doesn't always work.  (Error message, try again later.)

(Note to self, avoid embarrassment, always double-check links before sending to people!)

Also, do these links really need to end with periods?  I noticed my email client (Thunderbird) likes to NOT include the periods as part of the link, which could be a problem too.  But even with the periods, sometimes the link doesn't work.

Hi everybody! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am sorry for the response delay. I have been quite bussy with the Web Planner past weeks. In the next post I am going to sum up all new great features :). Thanks again for your support. I am looking forward for your feedback.

@Viajero Perdido
1) Thank you for your reply. I will take it into consideration.
2) Sharing planned tracks - yes, current solution is not the best one (flag of the tracks is changed and sync in triggered). We have much better solution on our mind - I have to discuss this with @Menion but I hope that we can implement it quiet soon.
3) Period in the link - oh, this is a good point which we were not aware of. I will try to think about possible improvement (it is not so easy as it can look like).

@lor74cas
1) Visible last update date - I totally understand your point but unfortunately (what I know) we are using external service for hosting LoMaps and we have no API integration to know when update happened. And doing this manually ... no, no - it would be soon out of sync and would cause much more harm then good.
2) Confusing color - we are aware of this issue. To be honest there is no perfect choice. There will be always some color conflict with the underlying map. We plan to offer color customization in the future which should hopefully limit this problem (like you can do it in the mobile app).
3) Elevation in tunnels - thanks for the example. I am not sure you are right ... for sure there are strange elevation "jumps" but mountain above has elevation around 130m above the sea and elevation displayed in the chart is at most 98m above the sea. Anyway, we would like to improve this but it will probably require change in the Brouter internals so I am not sure when this will happen ...

@nibby
1) Display multiple tracks - sure, this is our planned multicontent feature which we have in the pipeline. See: https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/23769-web-planner-display-multiple-tracks

@Henned
1) GPX import - not yet implemented, but planned. For now, you have to use import in the LocusMap mobile app and then sync it.

@Andrew Heard
1) First waypoint is not selected - this is intended behavior. You have to intentionally start planning (right click -> start/finish here, select waypoint, add POI to the route) in order to active "routing mode"

@raadoo
1) Edit route - yes, this is on our list and should be implemented soon (~1 month).
2) Change of routing profiles - actually, I am working on this right now. So you can most probably expect it within one week ;-)
3) Other questions - More or less they are collected as ideas for improvement. Please, have a look and vote - https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/all/status/all/category/30/sort/new_updated/page/1. If something is not there, please, add idea and others vote.

@freischneider
1) Public high level plan - yes, this is definitely a good idea. We are thinking about the best way of communicating this.

@janaton - I find the user experience with BRouter-web (also RideWithGPS, plotAroute) much more intuitive - cursor is already a cross, simply click the 1st point & start. To me & I suspect other users, LoRouter-web is more confusing; the casual user asks themselves "why can't I just click this point to start my route?". Have you got 5 people into the room that haven't yet used LoRouter-web & asked them to create a route (most common use-case) and observed how easy/ hard they found the task?

I like the handling of bridges and tunnels.  (New?)  It appears to (now?) consider the elevation of both as simply the average of the endpoints, a straight line between the two.  Perfect.

In my city, there's one high bridge across the entire valley that's much more convenient than all the others, in terms of elevation effort.  The web route planner shows no dip into the valley, thus doesn't penalize that bridge.  (LoRouter Offline does show a dip and avoids the bridge, but I assume that'll change shortly.)

In other words, thanks.  :)

Notable example:  https://web.locusmap.app/en/?planner=C7BOGcF8AEAMBsBWBXAJgYQMYDsAe0BvXAWwCEBugGQHsBxUAQwDcBTeAbnKA
(Though interestingly, the road bike profile would prefer to climb the pass. Fine.)

When a user logs into the portal and synchronizes, the information relating to the units of measure should also be able to be exchanged. In this way, the window for choosing the units of measurement would only be necessary for users who are not logged in.
For example, now in the panel it is not possible to choose whether kj or kcal.

One of the most important things when you are outdoors is water. In the screens you can see that even if there are two fountains nearby, selecting the first search result which should theoretically be the closest sends me more than 50km away.
More content (Wikipedia, user related) is coming, so "close calls in terms of distance" are resolved based on content.
then waiting for the other keys / attributes present for the objects in osm to be recognized, I will modify the names in osm so that they are also recognized in locus

Yes, we know, this is kind of tradeoff. Web planner is not intended only for planning but also for exploring. When you are in exploring mode, you do not want accidentally click into map and start routing. We plan to add separate tab for the browsing later so it will be obvious if you are in planning (plan tab) or exploring  (explore tab).

Expanding and collapsing waypoints - is it still happening? I can not reproduce it (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)

Is it possible to create an account in the web app? Because i see only a login button but no link to create a new account?
Or is this feature still on wishlist?

Is it possible to create an account in the web app?
@Franky123 the account is linked to your existing LM4 app account, use the same username/ password. It therefore makes no sense to be able to create a new account.

Little bug.  Going cross-country (using the zig-zag icon) doesn't record any elevation gain.  On the Android, this works as expected.

Expanding and collapsing waypoints - is it still happening? I can not reproduce it (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
now it works fine, but meanwhile there was an update of chrome browser on ubuntu lts 20.04

I like the concept of a trip planning on a PC, but so far the Planner is almost useless for me. The reasons are:
1) There is no GPX import.
2) There is no function to edit already saved track. Editing the name and description of existing track is not enough.

Is there any ETA when these functions are implemented?
Thank you...

@Žajdík Josef
You are right, there is already ticket for this to improve. If nothing urgent jumps in I should implement this within next 4 weeks.

@Franky123
Creating account from Web planner is not possible right now. We plan to add it but it is not the priority for us ... so not ETA here.

@Viajero Perdido
Yes, this should be improved. But, we will probably only load elevation for waypoints .... so no elevation profile between will be calculated (difference from the app). Will this be big issue for you? This manual routing is meant as "fallback" solution when you can not use standard routing.

@lor74cas
Thanks.

@habanr
1) GPX import - this is planned but currently no ETA
2) Editing saved track - I am working on it right now. I believe that next week it could be live ;)

You need to add districts for the names to the search list. I was looking for Kyjov in the Hodonín district, but I don't know how to know which it is. At the same time, it is a big city and the first list is a small village.

"Will this be a big issue for you?"

It would mean, elevation gain isn't correct if going cross-country (zig-zag icon), meaning I would reach for the mobile app instead for planning.

I go cross-country a lot.  Example: scrambling up a steep hill from one trail to another.  Or, taking a trail partway up a mountain, then scrambling to the summit.  Both would undercount the elevation gain.

1) Is there an option planned to add waypoints with their own names so that they are displayed in the Locus afterwards?
2) Is it planned to export the route so that there are points added, e.g. a museum, a shop, but without maneuvering, turn right or left?

Is there a map legend somewhere for the map the planner uses?

Is it possible for hiking and cycling routes to be displayed on a larger map scale?
Currently, you need a lot of zoom to see them on the map.

When planning a route for hundreds or thousands of kilometers (e.g. a bicycle trip) it is very impractical to use such a large magnification if you want to check whether the marked route coincides with the public trail.

More than half a year from the transition to the 4X version and the placement of Web Planner. It seems to me that Locus has since passed quite great development since then, but Web Planner is still in Beta. There is still no GPX import. The only novelty for the whole time is just that it can edit routes, but it can not be used to repair recorded routes. Is there any schedule, how should web planner continue?

@chrisjk - I'm sorry but there is no legend at this moment. Please feel free to ask or share screenshot with unknown element
@WujTom - unfortunately it's not possible. The data for routes ends in zoom-level 12

It's a pity, because you are slowly making better and better applications, think about how to make it possible.
I will just add that rwgps managed to use a different map that allows it.

Hi there, sorry for the delayed reply. I had vacation. Thank you for all the feedback. Most of it is already written down to tickets BUT we have just started implementing long awaited and quiet big feature - points and multi-content. Thank you for being patient with no progress in other areas of web planner.

@Žajdík Josef
Search results - you are right. Unfortunately there are multiple parts that should be improved and we plan to cover it in more robust way. It will need extra time, so hopefully end of this year ...

@Viajero Perdido
Manual routing and elevation - thanks for explaining your use case. It makes sense. We will try to implement it this way. But, currently it is not on our high priority list so at least for some time you will have to use mobile app planner for this.

@WujTom
1) Waypoints with name - no, it is planned
2) Export without navigation waypoints - also planned

Do you plan that from the menu or the search engine you can search for and view icons, for example "Shelter", "Museum, etc.

I can see it so that I turn it on in the "Shelter" menu and in the map view I see big icons. This would make planning a lot easier. Kind of like in maps.cz, but clicked out of the menu, not the search engine.
Title: Re: Web planner / portal
Post by: janaton on July 07, 2021, 14:22:13
@WujTom
We plan to implement this "POI category search" in the search. E.g. you type "shelt" and "Shelter" category will be offered in result for you. When you click it closest N results will be highlighted in the map. This is almost implemented in our API waiting for me to implement it in the web planner. Unfortunately, I have a lot of work with bringing points and multi-content alive. So, please, give us some time :)

I've noticed something that is strange and that I don't understand.

I created a track for hiking using the web planner. The elevation gain looked strange (more than reality). Then I synced it with LM4, clicked on "elevation update" and suddenly I got much more realistic elevation gain.
The difference was a few 100 meters between the web planner and LM4 (after update).

Why is it? I am using LM4 with LoMaps (Germany)

@WujTom
1) Website with statistics - If you think per user statistics then YES, we have it on the list. But there is still a lot more important stuff to do so I am not so brave to give here any eta. If you want to give it higher priority, please, feel free to create idea on the help desk and let others vote for it ;-)

@Hennes
1) Elevation difference between web and mobile app - unfortunately, this can happen quiet easily.
- We have separate code base for web and Android and mobile app much more advanced than web (additional elevation data processing and filtering). We are working on unification in order to give you the same results on the web and in the mobile app.
- Web is using elevation data set with ~100m resolution (not absolutely sure). In the mobile app you can have (manually downloaded) more precious ~30m resolution data set.

@janaton as mentioned at least once, maybe more, the web server, with more processing resources - CPU & RAM & file system, could selectively use higher resolution data sets in areas where available eg. from http://data.opendataportal.at/dataset. This could be a bonus say for say Gold (& Silver) subscription users.

Thank you for the work about webplanner.
Big screen planification is a real plus.

This a lot of work but why not creating a "joint venture" with existing webplanner (i.e. Route you ?). Recreating all existing is a lot of work and this time can be optimized.

For me, it's important to have same map on both "world", i.e. Open cycle map

Best regards and thanks for the android app very usefull.

In PC Windows 10 with Firefox 90.0.2 64 bits I've error "Sorry, something's got wrong. Can't get your location. Try again later." with location feature.
In the above images you can see:
- in Firefox Settings I allowed "https://web.locusmap.app/" to use Location;
- when I open the webmap page I give permission to use Location;
- after a few seconds appears the error message in the bottom;
- sometimes (very few), when I open webmap and immediately click the Locus location button it works and locates me, but few seconds after the error appears;
- after a few minutes the error stops and location button continues doing nothing.

@Andrew Heard
1) Higher resolution elevation data - yes, I know :-). We would be really happy to do this but it is a little bit bigger challenge than it seems to be. Although it looks we are still postponing this and it will never happen I still believe we could do this within one year.

@flabb17
1) Joint venture - Never say never :D ... but we have, I would say, our unique vision of web planner. Although it is still basic in the most areas we have really huge list of improvements. This would be really hard to do in the partnership :).

@francisco
1) Can't get your location - oh, this is very strange. Debugging geolocation API is quiet challenging but I will try to have a second look on it ;). Thanks for reporting

Added icons into MyLibrary items
can´t find how to add custom icons

for some tracks there is no "mini track preview" althought others of this area are displayed

planning a track using POI´s or geocaches as WPTS, a shortcut to add WPT would be comfortable ;)

Good job, I like it.
The imported tracks do not have the timestamp, neither on the track itself in terms of statistics nor the points that compose it.
We need the undo button.

I currently have a problem with the web planner. I don't have access to my library because of missing gold subscription. But I do have gold and it is indicated in the app.
Why doesn't the web planner recognize me (of course I am logged in)

Edit: The app states gold status but locus store is not accessible.

Hi guys,
seems that @janaton does not receive notifications on this topic  :).

So I'll at least answer questions relevant to the Android app.

@Hennes
sorry for missing the answer. Is this still a problem? Are you using the email account you used for log in to the Locus Store/app? If the same issue happens with the latest version as well, write me please as soon as possible to locus.map@asamm.com email, thanks.

@tapio
I have this in the task list, but it is currently really not a priority, sorry.
