Title: Can I create custom maps with IMGfromGPX for Locus?
Post by: marcolbmp on July 30, 2019, 19:26:55
I have been using Locus to follow tracks for off-road use and it works quite well.
However, with my Garmin, I can create a custom map overlay using the application IMGfromGPX that I can load into my unit and view. In essence, this negates the need for running a track and give me the ability to navigate at any time without losing the map.

Can I load a custom map file like this into Locus? The file type created is a Disk Image File.

Locus supports non commercial and non locked Garmin maps in img-format: https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_external
Give it a try!

Hello, as Thomas wrote, Locus Map really supports base IMG map format, which was probably point of the mentioned link. Anyway, do not expect too much from it. Rendering style is really bad and plans on future improvements are currently close to zero. Also, IMG maps can't be used for navigation, only as a map itself. So please be aware of it.

there is no need. you can display both a track (GPx) and a route (gpx) at the same time with locus my the map isn't changed by displaying either/both.

I haven't tried this yet, but can you run Locus offline with no map turned on? I'd like to just have the track lines show for an area I'm plotting out. This way I could make the existing trails in the area gray and the track I intend to plot out for our event in red. But without all the background map details
