Thanks, I'm just trying them out. The first impression looks good!

Graphhopper offline fails, as with previous beta.

Nice and fast, as promised.   8)  I'm starting to really like the V4 maps together with the outdoorV4 or active RT5 theme, and also little things like the fact natural=mountain_range now renders.

But one nagging thing...  The labels.  They're still being cut off at random, and I still need to dance around (out/in often works) to make the entire text render.  I refer to peaks, city names, and so on.

Is there any hope for a fix to label rendering?

Is there any secret "hack", maybe a config-file setting, that forces a little extra work to make the labels render reliably?  I'm willing to sacrifice some speed and hack something undocumented, if there's even a way...

A great map is a thing of beauty, and we are so close with the vector maps.   ;D

what is the tile size in rendering. Still 256, or 512 meanwhile - I forgot the earlier discussion around that.
Extra Label Layer like in Cruiser is more heavy lifting still ... ?

Good first impression as for performance. But sporadically, tends to happen when I'm out in the wilds :-D, map does not render. Or I am too impatient, waiting a minute. I see grey and a grid. Workaround is to delete cache, restart Locus, wait like 2 minutes because it does some initializing, especially on the big world map.
Used map is an oam v4, size 500 Mb, ie not a huge one.

hmm, I'm unable to make GH offline works, still writing "No routing data". Will try it tomorrow. I still hope for soon coming 0.13 version of GH engine. We already have generated data, but in current GH Beta version is some bug that prevents us to use them ... anyway, I'm registering this problem, thanks.

So labels are still not perfect ... I use mainly LoMaps so I did not notice anything un-usual. Will try to use OAM next rides to see a problem. There is nothing as a user, you may do. It's on me as dev.

tile size is dynamic based on the map and device resolution. It may be from 64 up to maybe 1024px.

Dynamic layer with labels is currently utopia, sorry.

if i open coord window inside PRO a decimal comma is displayed, inside FREE as usual dots are displayed

This is a result of recent changes. And why is expected and common decimal separator for your language? Isn't it comma instead of the dot?

A follow up comment: if the locale decimal separator is a comma, then the pull down selection "WGS (x°x.x')" in the screen grab really ought to reflect that also.

as i know a comma is used (independent language) by:
- decimal coords e.g. 48,123456  8,654321

a dot is used by:
- degree decimal coords e.g. 48° 7.40737  8° 39.25927

BTW, if i delete the comma in this dialog it´s only possible to add a dot with keyboard

To be honest, I never saw a comma as a seperator in any WGS coordinates format in Germany.
As far as I know here the dot is the correct seperator for WGS even in Germany..

Even the german wikipedia (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographische_Koordinaten#Darstellung_von_geographischen_Koordinaten) uses dots.

Change in separator was not made because of coordinates, but generally because of the format of decimal numbers (like speed, altitude, etc) where was previously used always "dot".

So generally if I understand: using separator based on locale for values like speed etc. is correct and in the new version, these values are ok in your language. But! for standard coordinates, we should always use "dot" as a separator. Am I understand correctly?

For coördinates officially it is a , in the Netherlands but a . is absolutely common.
And much more clear, see this example:  51.689970, 5.341697 This is a common notation and extra comma's would be confusing.
And, like Andrew, I noticed that I cannot enter a , at all in the fields.

Oki, fixed for "Edit coordinates" dialog. I see that on other places, the app still use "." as a separator for coordinates, so it will be at least united ... again. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Yes, happened, but rarely. I think it happens especially after manually switching between OAM maps, going to map center.Zooming out, going somewhere else, zooming back in...I don't know.
Well now I am on the migration from a Sony Z1 to a Huawei Mate 20 X, will see how things go.
Now all formerly big smartphones are tiny for me.

It is not able to use the notch area, right? An my phone it is pretty small, just the camera. EDIT: Android has an option to enforce use of notch area per-app.

On my phone there is plenty of room for Locus left menu. There could be another row of commands, i. e. 8 instead of 6. Menion pls :-)

Hey Menion, in my recording panel there's room for 18 items, can you allow for more than 14 items?

I created a track within Locus (and Brouter as Routing Engine) and saved the track after I added a description on 30.07.2019. When I want to edit the description, the description does not appear. The fileld is empty. Even on Export file :(
This happens the first time. So I guess it's a matter of one of the last versions.
Can anyone confirm this?

hmm using OAM for some days and did not yet notice any problems, but thanks, I'll be watching it.

Main menu: menu, as well as the whole layout of the main screen, is in process of a redesign for new Locus Map version. I'll keep in mind huge screens. Anyway recording panel will remain as is, so I've added two more possible number of items here.

Exact steps? Create track, load it 5 times or so into route planner, add description, save it and then try to edit the description. Nothing unusual.
Extra question: as already mentioned some yeas ago - I can't mark and copy text of the description when not in edit mode. Why?

2 times when starting an error message and 2 times when editing track crashed. Unfortunately, I have no further information. Next time I'll take a picture and a bug report.

I know this is not a usable bug report, because I don't have a recipe to reproduce. It's more I'd like to ask the community if they are experiencing something similar:
They more I play with changing maps, zooming in/out, turning map shading on/off, adding/removing overlays, the more often it happens that Locus displays tiles from other maps. As I said, not reproducible with easy steps, but I think it happens more often in recent releases (perhaps related to the big speed-up, but might have been before).
Of course I cleared map cache, but it still happens.
Anyone else?

Not here. But the more I do such things, the more likely it is that it does not render v4 maps at all... then I have do delete cache and restart.

sorry, but I'm unable to simulate any problem. Only what I noticed is that selecting "Save as copy" in route planner, the description is not saved, but all other cases work for me without a problem. Anything that may help to simulate it? You wrote about weird text above description? Screenshot?

I have one similar report on help desk as well and it has to be connected to auto-loading system, but because I never noticed this problem, I have no idea how to simulate it and fix it :/.

this morning i want to install Andrews new Voluntary theme, so i do a long click on theme icon > delete
result all custom themes are deleted ::)
After new installation of themes i tried it again and now only selected theme was deleted :-\
any idea?

It seems as if the paramater:
- map_hold_center_method_timeout

isn't any more in config.cfg.

I inserted it manually ... and now Locus works as before (and expected).

That one is under "Expert settings" now, so no need to set it in the cfg file.

hmm sorry. All seems to be correct in the code :(.

App firstly analyzes all themes and from it's XML configuration extract which files are needed by them.
Then in the second step, it tests all files needed by the theme you try to delete if this file is not needed by any other theme.
And the last step, it deletes really only just files unique to the deleted theme.

It is mainly weird that this does not happen to you on the second try.

New Beta 3.39.3.1 is on Google Play. What is there interesting?

As I see by our tracking system, I spend almost 200 hours (+ support & other smaller tasks = more than 2 last months) on modifications of how UI in the application is created. The app is huge (source code) and some parts were more than 5 years old, some were newly done by the different system so I really needed to unite it to simplify future work. And the major part of this was the main screen with the map. Its structure was really bad so I completely removed the old layout and recreated it with some new methods. It is more light, should be a lot faster (faster start, rotate, rendering) and is also a lot more flexible to future updates.

All this affected more than 2000 source files (50k lines was changed by our GIT system), so new problems may be almost everywhere. Even if I tested it really a lot ... sorry.

So who is brave, give it a try ;). And enjoy the weekend!

EDIT: do not know why, but even 3.39.3 took more than a day till it was available on Google Play for download. It looks the same with new Beta ...

Thx Menion, I decided to test the beta, but the new version is indeed not yet available.

like often with new betas I had to open GooglePlay > My apps&games > Installed and then manually reopen LocusMapFree several times until the button changed from 'open' to 'update'. So update worked for me some minutes ago.. 8)
(btw had to recreate the homescreen-app-shortcut, easily done of course)
no crash so far ;D

First test seems good.
I found that enabling GCLivemap works but   when disabled the cache points are still on the map.
Changing map does not have any effect on this issue, the caches are still there, just a restart of beta cleans the map.
I like the colour in settings menu it helps at first sight to find the enabled settings.

- after update, "app icon" is gone on my desktop, it usually remains on it´s place
- light brown/orange "center/rotate button" cannot be recognized in the sun ::)
- values of GPS-averaging are too optimistic, 0.05 m after a few measurements... with old version of app GPS Averaging i get 1-1,5 m after 10-15 measurements, this looks more realistic aswell on the map.

I also recognized, it seems to be much better now, not 100% solved. Menion did you work on that issue?

Text labels are still sometimes cut off at tile boundaries with Beta 3.39.3.1 when using OAM ML V4 maps.  LoMaps (which are still V3, right?) seem fine.

I asked earlier if there was a secret "hack" way to force V4 labels to render properly.  That's because I noticed that when you see a cut-off label, you can zoom out one notch, then in one notch, and it renders properly.  I'd thought, maybe there was a software hack to internally do the same thing, or something like it.

I don't remember what the advantages of V4 are, but I know this is the disadvantage.

Example of label issue.
The strange thing is that when you find a wrong one, changing the zoom, the label appears correctly and zooming in and out it is no more shown in the wrong way.

GPS averaging: well, it depends on how this accuracy was computed in the old map. Anyway currently value is made from measured values comparing their coordinates. So if you get 5 points with exactly same coordinates, that will have reported accuracy by GPS system 10 metres, Locus Map will display 0 metres, because all points are exactly same.

In V3 text labels of citiesv were useless. Getting an overview was impossible at times, because the label of a Kindergarten could have been bigger than the town name. Or city name completely hidden. It was a mess.

Magnifying the text of offline maps seems to increase the likelihood of labels being truncated.  I usually do 150% where it's fairly noticeable, and at 200% it's quite noticeable.

@tramp20 - the issue with updated in the Locus Store should be fixed.

The larger and hence longer the text, the more likely it is to cross a tile boundary, and so the more likely it is to be truncated.

3.39.3.2 test with truncated label on map.
Moving away the label out of the screen with one finger touch and move,  than moving back, completed the truncated label. No zoom pinch or phisical button involved.

To test the new online log option "save"  i´ve disabeled my settings "log allways offline"
Test with add image to log and handled TB´s  are saved.  Later online log worked well with all attached images/TB´s.
But after 3 hours with:
- 1 direct online logged cache, only log text, no image, no TB
- 9 "online" logged caches finished with save
- one updated cache with spoiler image download 2,5 MB
locus has consumed about 50MB of data volume  ???
is this a result that locus contact my GS account each time i start a onlinlog?????

beta 3.39.3.2: Starting the function "Share" terminates the app.

Screen lock in beta.

There seems to be a difference between Pro and beta when I share a location to the app and a point is already highlighted.
In beta a new dropped pin point appears, the centre of the map moves to it then immediately moves to a position near the previously highlighted point.
In Pro, the centre of the map always seems to move to the new point, which is what I would want.

what is the problem with themes? On both screenshots should be same map & same theme? If so, then it looks like some map overlay, isn't it possible?

Problem with Geocaching logging is interesting. May you check it home on wi-fi with some tool like GlassWire and in the best case, check-in which moment this "data suck" happens? It is definitely unexpected and unwanted behavior which maybe results of big history or number of items in your inventory? Can't say for sure for now ...

The app was Wild Guide to SW England...
But the behaviour was clearly different for beta and Pro, and clearly reproduceable.

I think that the data consumption was caused by the online map overlay being switched on.

i was surprised that when using some track recording profiles with BETA the track was recorded but the line was not shown on the map.
After checking, I noticed that some of my profiles didn't have a "Track recording line style" in the BETA after update :-\
When clicking on  "Track recording line style" it takes about 10-15 seconds until the window for setting the line style opens, in PRO it takes 3-4 sec.

Next, I realized that the number and settings of the recording profiles in PRO and BETA are different. But this seems to be intentional.

The beta spoke to me in Czech (again)!
The reason appears to be that  the English option has disappeared in Locus both for system language and TTS, and been replaced by English US.
Google TTS knows I want UK English but Locus doesn't even offer the option.

15 seconds is crazy. I tried it on my SGS2 and the same!! After whole afternoon testing, I found some weird issue in Android. So it is not ideal (just this screen, which is interesting), but should be definitely better.

The missing style for recording profiles is even more interesting ... btw. what does it mean "missing style"? There should be always "something". Even if the app lost this setting (which we know that rarely happens), there should be default line style (like when you create a new profile). ... ah maybe I know ... is it possible that your profiles were really really old? Hmm, I'll check it thanks.

And the number of "settings" different? Do not understand.

I do not understand why this "czech". Because primary (fallback) language is English and Czech has no priority compare to any other language. Anyway in the app was still small problem with setup of manually selected language over application. Try please new Beta if it helps.

More details regarding the spoken Czech bug: I had App Language set to Default system, and that gave me all the dialogues in English, fine. I started navigating and Locus gave me directions in spoken Czech. When I minimised Locus, the text directions in the notifications were also in Czech. (OK, maybe it wasn't Czech but it looked like it, with your special characters.) When I checked the TTS setting, the TTS language was Czech (Czechia). That comes top of the list, which may be why it is preferred. My setting in Locus Pro is simply English and the app picks up my choice in Android settings of English (United Kingdom). In the beta it doesn't do that. I've been forced to choose English (United States), the only available English variant.
Neither, by the way, does Locus beta seem to pick up the Android system settings for speech rate (and possibly other settings). Locus now speaks directions very rapidly in an American accent.
There is one factor which may possibly be relevant: I'm away from home and working on mobile data not WiFi and Android is set to only download TTS data on WiFi.

- exactly, the profiles which  had no line style have existed since the publication of profiles
- in PRO i have 7 different profiles, in BETA after last update only 5 are visible. After restart of my device this issue is gone, so solved

As others have mentioned, the .3 beta seems to have fixed the cut-off text problem, even with magnified (200%) text.  Thank you!

I think I might have seen one text label disappear as I panned it into view, but that might have been a brain problem on my part (coffee not fully absorbed), because I couldn't reproduce it.

But essentially, I consider this fixed.   8)

Same here, UI german, TTS czech.

I've just published new 3.39.4 version that is based on previous 3.39.3 with just minor fixes.

So if you want to keep current Beta (with improved MF4 texts, GPS Averaging, etc.), do not update the Free version.

And thanks for the precise description of "TTS Problem", I'll look at it.

The truncated text issue is not *completely* solved. There's a village called Shillingford St George near Exeter that beats the system sometimes. But I can live with that.

I think I've found a reason for TTS problem. "Czech" as first in the list is very good observation. In the next version, should be fixed. It will anyway need to pick TTS once again manually, thanks.

I made bigger changes in the background and it is possible that for very very old styles, it's settings will be lost. It was necessary to change, sorry. Anyway, I've just rewritten system how profiles are loaded so it should at least get default line style.

The map preview of track style shows an incorrect width if "m" is chosen instead of "px", at least with a pattern style. The preview width is vastly too big and misleading.
Edit: after saving the track style it no longer is incorrect.

Some panels look strange in the latest beta. Tablet, adroid 5.0.

FREE app icon on desktop disapearend after last update from BETA to FREE and once again today after update back to BETA. Perhaps the reason is the change BETA>FREE and vice versa.

Test "log online" > save
- each log takes about 25KB for connection to GS, that´s perfect
- upload draft, set favorite point  isn´t added to listing after draft is saved

Now it works that right at the start of navigation, settings that are included in automatic preset are saved (made a backup) and at the moment you end navigation, old settings are restored.

it is possible (issue with the icon). Main start activity of Locus Map has changed in Beta so this switching cause this small mess.

Geocaching: 25kb looks still little hight to me, but as I wrote, maybe you have too much trackables in your inventory?
Favorite point ... I think that upload of draft and also offline logging does not support favorite points (on gc.com side). Hmm maybe I should add some note about this into app ... thanks.

Note on Automatic preset in navigation settings.
Setting "Preferences" for sporting activity seems to me illogical. Personally, I think it would be better to assign a routing profile in the "preset" settings. I could create separate presets for mountain, trekking or road bike. Each preference would then include complete settings such as map type, map theme, dashboard, and routing profile.
I find the Automatic Preset offer confusing and I do not understand its use yet. If this is a way of simplifying, then it would be more logical to be able to display a flat screen with "Preferences" when you start Locus and then select what action I want to do with one press.

Your solution has a problem we try to solve. Your solution requires to open "Presets" screen, activate preset and then start navigation (which is already possible now).

What I tried to simplify with this system is to completely automatically activate a bunch of settings (preset) when you start a certain type of activity. And also, automatically reverse settings back to the state before navigation, once navigation is terminated.

Practical solution: at home, I do not want centering, rotation and map shift, but I want this during navigation. So I create a preset with these settings. With old version, I always had to manually enable preset and then start navigation. Now, this may be done automatically. Also in the previous version I had to create one more preset with default settings which I've activated after navigation stops. This is also no longer needed as this task is made auto-magically.

Does it make sense?

I have an idea for two variations, but maybe it would like to think through them.
Option 1:
Add option to select routing profile to "Preferences". On the "Navigate to" screen, then add a new "Preferences" tab. This would offer the option of selecting a preset preset instead of a routing profile. Pressing the preset button would then simultaneously select the routing profile and reset Locus to the required form.
Or Option 2:
Create separate customizable "temporary preferences" for the scheduling screen only. These would only be applied in the route planner and would have a limited validity only during the planning period. After completing the scheduling, the settings would revert back to their original form.

Version 2 would probably be more logical for new users.

Přidat možnost výběru routovacího profilu do "Předvolby". Na obrazovce "Navigovat do" pak přidat novou kartu "Výběr Předvolby". Ta by nabídla možnost výběru přednastavené předvoby místo routovacího profilu. Stiskem tlačítka předvolby by se pak vybral současně routovací profil a přenastavil Locus do potřebné podoby.
Nebo varianta 2:
Vytvořit samostatné nastavitelné "dočasné Předvolby" jen pro plánovací obrazovku. Ty by se aplikovaly až v plánovači trasy a měly by omezenou platnost jen po dobu plánování. Po ukončení plánování by se nastavení vrátilo nazpět do původní podoby.

Verze 2 by byla asi logičtější i pro nové uživatele.

I was wondering what to try to assign Preferences directly to routing profiles - see picture. If the profile had a Preset assigned, it would reset Locus. If not, nothing would change. I assume that for every activity such as bike, road bike, hiking or running, it uses each separate routing profile.

In the latest beta the first line of each of my dashboards is displayed over the top of the top panel buttons. In pro the first line is displayed below the top panel. I don't know whether to add a blank line to each dashboard. Is this an intended change?

1. I would really like to stay with the current car/bike/walk selection and not the selection from presets. Sounds more logical.
2. Do you want to apply temporarily preset in Route planner? Why, what is benefit from this?

Understood @menion. It's a beta. No worries. Also notice that navigation voice is 2x faster than in Pro, and during navigation any track being recorded is not displayed. Pro is fine.

An hour into a walk, Locus beta screen went blank (white) with OAM Great Britain MF4 map, while Lomap England displayed OK. Restarting the phone did not help but cycling through different themes solved it later. Not reproduceable of course

An update to my last post- any track being recorded is not displayed, whether or not navigation is enabled.

An update to my last post, too.
Starting the latest beta with OAM MF4 Great Britain and Voluntary MF theme gave me a pure white map. After cycling through themes it displayed correctly.

Sorry, I have no field test results.  I only carry Pro in the field, after some confusion in the past with G4L getting confused between two Locus versions (Beta/Pro).  But I eagerly await the next Pro version with the labels fix, thanks again.

I tested the preset for navigation and I have to admit that it works well. I have only one comment. If I leave the route and Locus has to recalculate the route, there will always be a green rectangle with a text stating that the preset has been set. The rectangle overlaps the map, so it's quite annoying. Can't remove it after recalculating the route?

CZ: Testoval jsem přednastavení pro navigaci a musím uznat, že funguje dobře. Měl bych jen jednu připomínku. Pokud sjedu z trasy a Locus musí cestu přepočítat, tak se vždy objeví zelený obdélník s textem o tom, že přednastavení bylo nastaveno. Ten obdélník překrývá mapu, takže je docela nepříjemný. Nešel by po přepočtu trasy odstranit?

New Beta: would like to test shading as part of preset system, but presets cannot be edited, missing "Edit" menu item.

For those who don't know, map shading is IMO the best possible way to see elevations. See attachment.

Improving overlays? If I remember, we talked about possible usage of blend modes and test show me no usable results. Option to quickly change custom color palette ... do not know, but I think that there won't be too much people who use it like you do :).

I suggest you delete the message completely if the preset is loaded correctly.

Well I will make some advertising, I reckon millions of Locus users will use that kind of overlays then 😁 I understand it is an unloved child because performance, but a) it's useful for planning, ie does not always need to be turned in and b) smartphones get stronger. Mine handles it easily.

The shading in presets is well done, because it saves the individual shading setting... thx.

It would not be bad to be able to set automatic temporary Preset even for Route Planner. For example, shading the map would be practical. But it is just a thought for the future.

Hi Menion, Beta does not do automatic preset switching when routing along a given track. Maybe you can make Locus look into the track properties and decide which preset to use. If not, fallback on the walking preset.

Have noticed in latest beta if I try to tap eye/ visibility of a point down near the end of a list, the wrong or no point is toggled, and the list is scrolled to another position. I hope that makes sense?

About enabling points: careful .. there is a quick slider on the right side and it takes a while till it disappear after scroll.

I have some feedback on the new built-in GPS Averaging feature in beta 3.39.4.2:

First, the really obvious glitch.  My true coordinates are N53 W113, but the averaging screen shows S113 E053!  N/S are switched, E/W are switched, and even the order between the two numbers is switched.  Oh, and there's a leading zero that's not needed.  Also, it shows a distance of almost 14000km, which I assume is half the circumference of the earth.

But more importantly, there's an issue that's been around for years.  Once you tap Confirm, you're back at the point's Basic Info screen, with correct coordinates.  But the altitude is not what you just measured.  It appears to be SRTM altitude, but who wants that number when you've just measured a more accurate one with GPS?  And "Get" is ambiguous; what does it do?  (My best guess is, fetches SRTM altitude again, if not already known.)

Occasionally I like to measure peak altitudes for updating OSM, but have to remember to record the altitude separately because I can't trust the built-in field.  (Can't trust because it's ambiguous, and the number is different than I expected to see.)

Also, the choice of "GPS Averaging" as the name could cause confusion, as it's the same as the name of an external app doing the same function.  Since "My Location" and "GPS Averaging" are similar concepts, maybe you want different names such "My Location - Quick" and "My Location - Averaged"?

And one time only (first time), when I tapped "Get", the app disappeared.  A few times after that, no problem.

PS, it's a great solution to the problem of the external app having become malware.  Though for my own use, I managed to find an old good copy.

The release notes for new beta said something about "improved system for pick of location". I only see a few more options and possibility to remove custom points - is that what is meant or is there more I'm not seeing?
Anyway, could you make that list sortable? That would be a nice improvement...

@menion - but it's not an issue with pro, only beta. It is most annoying when you tap on an item and the list moves to another position to avoid you.

PS: is the slider a new feature? Yes, I notice it now, thanks. However even knowing this fact, it still seems inconsistent/ unpredictable at times.

I have noticed in the latest beta that it escapes the route planner if I leave the application and then return back. I have to open the planner again.

This does not happen for the release version. I return back to the route planner there.

I have GPS & track recording auto start. Often I will turn them both off when I start Locus. I notice in the latest beta that even when I disable them both, that a few seconds later my actions are ignored, and they are both reenabled.

While testing a new Preset Navigation feature, I encountered the following problem with bike navigation. To save power, both the screen and the voice of the navigation have been turned off (no sound for cars anyway). The screen turns on only when navigating. Unfortunately, navigation does not report some turns, I suppose because the selected route has a higher priority on the map than turns. But in reality the roads are of equal quality and so it happens that I make a wrong turn. Although I have set a voice warning to go down after 50 m, but in traffic cars can not hear it at all. It would therefore be appropriate to add the option to turn on the screen for warning messages (loss of GPS, leaving the route, etc.)

CZ: Při testování nové funkce aplikující Preset při navigaci jsem narazil na následující problém s navigací na kole. Kvůli úspoře energie mám vypnutou obrazovku i hlas navigace (stejně není kvůli autům slyšet). Obrazovka se zapíná jen při pokynech z navigace. Bohužel navigace některá odbočení nehlásí, předpokládám kvůli tomu, že zvolená cesta má v mapě vyšší prioritu než odbočky. Jenže v reálu jsou cesty stejně kvalitní a tak se stane, že špatně odbočím. Mám sice nastaveno hlasové upozornění na sjetí po 50 m, ale v provozu aut to není vůbec slyšet. Bylo by tedy vhodné doplnit možnost zapnutí obrazovky pro varovná hlášení (ztráta GPS, sjetí z trasy atp.)

I use Lomaps as of 5.8.2019
- start locus with map germany south, GPS off, map center N 48°53.596 E 8° 52.683, ZL 13
- restart locus
- zoom to ZL 17 and back again to ZL13
- change map to Baden-Wuerttemberg
- zoome to ZL 17 and back again to ZL13
- change map to Germany south
- zoom to ZL 17 and back again to ZL13

repeat this procedure several times
in the table the zoomlevels are entered in which the name of the village "Serres" is displayed.  If the zoomlevels are marked in red, the name is displayed incompletely, see screenshot.

Anyway, warning (sorry to not decide and mention earlier, my mistake): it is possible (not sure) that this feature will be available in public version later in LM4.

yes, it is what you see. Among that, I've united background system so add-ons and internal location sources are in one big grid. It is also possible to enable/disable all available sources under same place. Sorting is possible with drag&drop.

I was able to simulate this "wrong click" once after a few minutes of playing, but never again :/. Anyway, quick scroll slider is not new, it was in app for a long time. Anyway as I see, it disappears even when you drag it, after a moment. I found a way to fix it and also to improve toggling visibility if this scroller is visible ... co next version, thanks!

Minor: Track manager in beta. When I long tap the map preview icon, it refreshes the map image as expected. But when I raise the finger, it also opens the track detail window.

Dark mode: Can you also offer a dark grey one? Plain black to my eyes does not look good.

Prerequisite: Having the Beta Locus icon on the Home screen.

Actions to reproduce the issue:
Launch Locus Beta
Open the Route planner ( in my case from the poping up side bar )
Press the Home button
Press the Locus Beta icon again
The route planner is gone.

I confirm if I do it your way, bringing back from the task list, it works OK, i.e the Route planner has stayed open.

Perhaps pressing icon of already launched application makes some initialization. But, it works OK for the Locus Release.

One last lesson from testing the use of Preset in navigation. Try to consider assigning different distances to each of the activities (walking / cycling / car) at the same time to recalculate when going off the route. Je docela obtížné najít nějakou univerzální vzdálenost pro všechny aktivity s ohledem na velké rozdíly v rychlosti pohybu. Samozřejmě je na zvážení, zda tyto hodnoty pro jednotlivé aktivity nastavit napevno nebo přenechat možnost uživatelského nastavení.

Well, I tried to D&D in the Edit-List, which doesn't work - have to do it on the screen itself. There are other lists in Locus where you can D&D directly, that's what got me confused.

Nothing regarding beta this time, but a general Locus behaviour.
After calculating a a nav route I wanted to delete unwanted advices, I remember there was a way to do it but the itinerary menu can do the job so I finally find the waypoint menu in the route details that do the job. Why don't you unify this menus in the second one?

P.s. I tried to find the navigation related info in knowledge base but the site from mobile did not have any answers it didn't work and is still frozen

definitely I have English selected. I did have same experience of Czech as the default recently. As a workaround I have changed from the Google TTS (which speaks 2x speed in beta only) to Samsung TTS (which sounds ok). Note no problem with pro.

interesting issue with the long click on track preview. This issue has to be there since the beginning. If you put finger away in the moment, the overview is generated, it works correctly. If you hold it longer, it causes this problem. I know why this happens, but with this old system, I currently do not know how to solve it, sorry.

The voice alert works but the screen does not light up. Indeed, sometimes it would not be desirable. Perhaps by bike it would be good, but in winter when I follow only the voice instructions in the headphones and the phone is in the jacket pocket, so the screen should not turn on. interesting issue with the long click on track preview. This issue has to be there since the beginning. If you put finger away in the moment, the overview is generated, it works correctly. If you hold it longer, it causes this problem. I know why this happens, but with this old system, I currently do not know how to solve it, sorry.

I know I've also always been bothered by this: If you don't press long enough: Details - if you press too long: Regeneration plus Details. You have to time it just right. I think there was a time when the too-long-press didn't go into details, but I'm not 100% sure.

Bug report.
Center screen disabled but GPS on.
Move map to whatever point which is not the actual location. Call Points dialog. Add a point and leave via Back key.
Point is set to actual location (not the one selected) and map moved to actual location, too.

It's even in release Version but it's a newer bug. Don't know when it was introduced but not so long ago I guess.

Trackable log: hmm it looks like almost two months old log that was not correctly sent, is it possible? From message is not clear, which log exactly made a problem. It should be possible to check from FieldNotes database (Locus/data/gcFieldNotes.db) in case, you did not pressed "Discard log".

Trochu jsi mě zviklal tím, že to u Tebe funguje a tak jsem dnes provedl nový test s nastavenými hodnotami, které budou průkaznější. Upozornění 80 m a přepočet 1500 m. Myslím, že už tuším v čem je rozdíl v testování u Tebe a mě. Sjetí z trasy totiž nastává ve dvou variantách. Pokud špatně odbočíš ve chvíli kdy Locus upozorňuje na odbočení, tak uporornění na sjetí funguje správně a obrazovka se rozsvítí na 80 m. Jestli ale sjedeš v místě kde Locus jen "projíždí" tak k upozornění na sjetí nedojde a Locus obrazovku rozsvítí až ve chvíli přepočtu trasy 1500 m. Což je právě situace, na kterou jsem upozorňoval prve. Někdy totiž Locus na odbočení neupozorňuje, asi proto že cesta má v mapě vyšší prioritu. Jenže v praxi se stává, že to není v mapových podkladech dobře zaznačeno (obě cesty mají stejnou kvalitu) a odbočíš špatně. Typické jsou právě takové ty "vidličky" Pro názornost jsem nakreslil schéma. I added multiple NoGo areas to force all routing services to use a fixed route. For BRouter it worksbut not for GraphHopper. GraphHopper ignores NoGo areas. Is this expected?

eh, 14 months ... really hard to fix it now. Seems, Locus somehow decided there is a new un-send log. But why, don't know. Please watch it and if this happens again, backup before this happens (or just gcFieldNotes.db because it should be really there) should be welcome. In case of the same problem, "discard log" should solve this on your side. Thanks.

Thanks for files ... it all seems correct. I'll involve rest of the team here, maybe someone will have the same issue.

Bohužel v backupu není záloha presetů, moje blbost (jsou jen v plné záloze). Nicméně to co píšeš by takto fungovat nemělo. Notifikace na sjetí z trasy řeší jen nejbližší vzdálenost k trase a je jedno jestli po cestě je navigační bod nebo ne. Důležité prostě je, jestli slyšíš notifikaci na sjetí z trasy (pak by se měla i obrazovka rozsvítit a nebo ne). Pokud ne, zkontroluj jestli je v nastavení notifikace zapnuto "opakovat každých ...". Vím že obrázku jsi to měl, ale je možné že to presetem přenastavíš a ani o tom nevíš :).

today I was fighting with wms layers I did it to show some servicies for italy but when I disabled the last one It never disappears from the map.
I tried to clean all cache in locus without succes.

the layer msg_h3B give us the weather updated every 15 min, this particular layer does not cover the base map and is quite visible.

Testing some wms services I found that the world map is never present in the quick map select menu, I think it'd be usefull if it'd always be present. IMHO i think that a local (data on the phone) world map should be the default layer (also for online map), second base map, third wms. World map with the only  option: see me or not.

I haven't had much time to test, but it seems that not turning on the screen when going off the route causes the sound to be muted with: "Mute navigation sound". Please try. It is a bit unfortunate because just when the sound is turned off, lighting is the most important when going off a track.

In the latest Beta 3.39.4.3. It happened to me several times that the Preset button was not reset to the pre-navigation position after the navigation ended using the End of Navigation button. Specifically, the Dashboard remained the same as when navigating. But I didn't have much time so please test.

CZ: Neměl jsem moc času na testování, ale vypadá to, že nerozsvícení obrazovky při sjetí z trasy způsobuje vypnutí zvuku pomocí: "Ztlumit zvuk navigace". Prosím o vyzkoušení. Je to trochu nešťastné protože právě při vypnutém zvuku je rozsvícení při sjetí z trasy nejdůležitější.

V poslední Beta 3.39.4.3. se mi několikrát stalo, že po předčasném ukončení navigace pomocí tlačítka Konec navigace nedošlo k přenastavení Presetu do podoby před zahájením navigace. Konkrétně Dashboard zůstal stejný jako při navigaci. Neměl jsem ale moc času tak prosím o testování.

In offline mode (and only there ) the voice output with google tts module doesn't work.
I downloaded the google language package but nothing changed. With Samsung tts module offline voice output is working.
Weird thing ... when trying settings via Locus the default is set to tschech language ... and this is working with google tts modul in offline modus.

I'm checking app source code and it is as you wrote: if you completely turn off sound notifications => no "turn on" for the screen.

I've just changed this behavior (needs a test) anyway in next Beta, "turn the screen on" won't depend on this setting, which I believe makes more sense. Thanks

hmm it should work with online GH, interesting. Please check if you have also enabled for example bike in nogo point settings if you create a route for the bike. This is last what may be wrong I believe.

Generally, there should be no reason to offten manually switch map to this global map. Maybe on the sofa when playing/planning, but not in the field.

interesting and not sure if I may do something with it. Never had any problem and I use Google TTS for years (and definitely also in places without network). Anyway, in current public version are some problems with languages, so maybe wait on the next version (maybe next week) or try a Beta.

Still specified. The navigation autopreset does not end even if the navigation itself ends at the destination. In the previous Beta it worked.

Got it, I'll try it tomorrow with the new Bet. Yesterday during the testing I noticed that after multiple recalculation of the route began to change Dasboards confused. Sometimes the one from the Autopreset navigation was loaded, sometimes the one from the Preset applied before the navigation started. It happened twice to me that after a few recalculations, navigation stopped abruptly, but Locus ran normally with the track record.

CZ: Rozumím, vyzkouším to zítra s novou Betou. Včera jsem si při testování všiml, že po několikanásobném přepočtu trasy se začaly Dasboardy měnit zmateně. Někdy se načetl ten z Autopresetu navigace, jindy zase ten z Presetu aplikovaného před spuštěním navigace. Dvakrát se mi taky stalo, že se po několika přepočtech navigace znenadání ukončila, ale Locus běžel normálně dál i se záznamem trasy.

If a track contains additional waypoints - created or imported - and the track is changed within the routeplaner and then saved / overwritten, the waypoints are disappeared / deleted by Locus :(

Also happens if you're exporting to an online service (OSM in my case), and you're in airplane mode with no internet connection.  Stupid mistake on my part.  (I mentioned this over on the help desk, with a different root cause; root cause was fixed, thanks.)  Once again, I needed to record a video with my camera, and step through it frame-by-frame to read the message.

Saving the route from route planner in beta is considerably slower in beta than pro. The whole phone locks up. For example a 100km route, I tap Save, Locus takes more than 15s in beta. The total time isn't so much the issue, but maybe there needs to be some progress indication. No other Locus process locks up/ unresponsive like this saving.

I had a strange effect with text in the latest beta today, which is not reproduceable in my armchair. However I took a screen grab at the time.
Some placename texts split to form two or more lines but the position of the split is arbitrary. See Baltimor/e, Horsesho/e Harbour and Sherki/n/Island in the example below. The second image is the app behaving properly back at base.

When you tap Save, then should appear "edit screen" (with track name, description etc.). Is the "slow moment" between save and this screen or later when you set name and press "Save"?

Thanks for reporting bug to GraphHopper. I checked the known bug in their answer and it"s true. Seems to be to many NoGo areas.
With just one it works.

Menion, 2 minor issues I noticed in the stable branch:

a) The Coords in the title bar, copied via long tap, aren't Google Maps compatible. N 51.84794° , E 007.56691°
N, E and the degree character need to be deleted. Most likely coords get entered there!

b) Tap gpx outside of Locus, import dialogue as in screenshot. When inclusion of WP into gpx is already pre-set, the second option must be grayed out. Uncheck/check the first checkbox and it displays correctly.

edit. Not sure about a) coords work in Android app. I may have seen it on a PC...
Edit2 forget a). Need to look closer.

Menion, that "issue with the long click on track preview" is also happening on stable. But I can release finger quickly, as you wrote, then it doesn't enter the track details... A bit of a game on a fast device.

@menion - just rename the directory. Yes, a new dir is created. The main point is that the error message is not displayed for long enough.

for example, open existing route, Save, Overwrite. At this point the phone becomes unresponsive, then screen dims to black, then finally back to previous screen.

Today I had beta running with track recording, and my partner accidentally then ran Pro too. I only realised hours later when I went to export & rename the tracks. Each track for the day (4) had 2 identical copies. Is there any need for Pro and beta to run simultaneously? If not, could there be a warning, or just prevent the 2nd instance? I know this will happen extremely rarely & therefore not worth the effort.

@menion I understand your love of texts in MF4. Just to add that I have also recently seen the texts which are normally single line in Locus split into multi line correctly. So somewhere, some code is doing this! I thought this was a MF4 feature but that you were not using their code. Strange.

The old "en" problem seems to be back.  This is something I brought up a couple of years ago.  I mention it here because it might be related to the new MFV4 handling.

I'm using a brand new OAM V4 Multilingual map, because I like the V4 goodness with better label handling, soon to be even better yet with un-truncated text.  (I'm using the latest Pro, not beta.)   The map is Hong Kong in this example, and a good POI to illustrate the problem is a restaurant at https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/5977868688 .

Because the POI has name:en but no name tag, the restaurant name displays with "en" in front.  Note that I've manually selected English for this map, so there's no need to point out when it's a language I'm already expecting.

Hong Kong, like Vietnam that I'd mentioned earlier, is littered with POIs with this mix of tags, and thus prefixed "en".

(PS, the map I'm using is so new, it doesn't even show up yet on the main OAM download page.  I found it here (http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/openandromaps/mapsV4/asia/).  EDIT: but you see the same effect with an older version.))

I've set export to directory Locus/export/test, then I've deleted "test" directory in file browser and then pressed "export" button. And no error, all went well. "test" directory was automatically created and inside is exported file. So please, precise steps or video needed if you want to fix it, thanks.

Interesting with route planner problem is that there were no change in the app. It seems to be some side effect. I'm trying to measure possible slowdown because even on my device it took 2 seconds and at least I see that no matter what happens, it block UI completely ... as you wrote. I've improved this at least.

Free & Pro simultaneously ... problem is in detection that something like this is happening. Generally in Android is nothing like "app is running" and "app is not running". Well, Locus Map tries to simulate this behavior, but it is more a hack then suggested method. So one app cannot simply say if any other application is running. And in case of track recording: current recorded track is save directly into internal memory to cache directory to prevent some possible loss because of unexpected situations. And this cache directory is shared between both versions. For most of other features, there should be no problem.

nono, MF4 library in Locus Map is used for 100% of map content you see. There are no my own inventions regards to how map or texts are drawn. Yes, only what I did were some small optimization to force side map tile reload in cache of overlaping texts. If this may cause these problems? Hard to say.

I experiences this too on the weekend: Had to change phone battery, after restart Beta & Pro were both showing notification about unfinished track recording. Now that was rather aestethic, but tbh I was afraid to stop the recording in one app for fear it might also affect the (already unpaused) recording in the other. Is there a danger?
And couldn't you just write a tag in the file to say who started it? At least in the above situation you don't need to find out if the other one is running or merely installed - just make sure that Pro continues a recording started by Pro and the same for Beta/Normal.

oki, good point. I'm rather separated files that store current active track recording for every Locus Map version. So Locus Map Free (Beta) should not affect (since next version) recording of Pro version.

I wasn't sure, so I added "Line of View" to Autopreset Navigation. Sending scr.

In the first BETA where the Autopreset function was introduced everything worked. Therefore, this problem must be caused by some change from the second BETA.

V první BETA kde byla funkce Autopreset zavedena vše fungovalo. Proto musí tyto potíže způsobovat až nějaká změna od druhé BETA.

Minor problem with last BETA. In the right panel I have defined a button to open the Musicolet music player. There is no problem in the PRO version - scr1. In the BETA version, the button does not load - scr2 after Locus starts. However, when I manually apply a preset that activates this panel, the button appears - scr3. However, it will not load again when I quit the application, and I must run the panel preset again.

CZ: Drobný problém s poslední BETA. V pravém panelu mám definováno tlačítko na otevření hudebního přehrávače Musicolet. Ve verzi PRO s ním není problém - scr1. Ve verzi BETA se po startu Locusu tlačítko nenačte - scr2. Když ale ručně aplikuji preset, který aktivuje tento panel, tlačítko se objeví - scr3. Po ukončení aplikace se ale opět nenačte, a musím znovu spustit preset s panelem.

Seems that for you, old settings are not restored at all.

I've just published version 3.40.0 RC1 into Beta channel, so please try it and if the same issue happen, may you please create a log for me? Maybe you should simply enable logging in "Expert settings" directly in the app for the time of this experiment, it should be enough. (logs are then stored in Locus/logs directory). Thanks.

This is N 51°27.541', E 007°31.375' on OAM v4 Germany Nordrhein-Westfalen map and Vol UK theme.

EDIT. Applied a preset, now I am not able to get the problem any more. Have no clue yet what caused this. Its not map zooming.

Wordwrap, not enough space in point screen in my language.

Today I found that not displaying the Musicolet icon only works when Lucus Beta is in the list of recently used apps. Samsung - left button. When I delete Lucus Beta from here, the Musicolet icon appears after the launch. But it's not a big deal.

Dnes jsem zjistil, že nezobrazení ikony Musicolet se projevuje jen pokud je Lucus Beta v seznamu naposledy použitých aplikací. Samsung - levé tlačítko. Když odtud Lucus Beta vymažu tak se ikona Musicolet po startu objeví. Není to ale velký problém.

Perhaps, it may be related to the recent fixed issue of escaping the route planner if Locus was brought back by clicking on its icon, versus staying in route planner if Locus was restored from the list of recent applications.

a) I'm still not satisfied with computed accuracy. The current number is more a fake than real value.

@poutnikl, any quick tip of an algorithm to compute the precision of average value computed from values with own known precision (coordinates & it's HDOP) and that most probably does not have a normal distribution (I consider it has for now to simplify it). The value does not need to be super precise I believe also because HDOP of locations is also an estimate of computed least square method used in core algorithm.

b) most probably, the feature will be included in new Locus Map 4 later. So till then, it will be in regular beta versions only (this one is an exception because it should be really as close to final release version as possible). Sorry for the confusion.

Just quick thoughts:

The only idea coming to my mind is error propagation via sums of variances ( squares of standard deviations ).

But to get a model how these propagate via Kalman filtering may be very challenging.

Some info could be extracted from Kalman filtre variance matrices.

Another aspect, that may nullify the above effort would be  nature of position errors.

They are not random either in time, either in space, but there is strong both space and time correlation of errors.

By other words, following a road, there may be e.g. for 10-15 seconds a systematic position bias few meters to the right, and after a short while, a systematic bias to the left. If these biases are long enough, Kalman filtering cannot say difference between the bias and true deviation, as it is designed against random variations.

A filter addressing biases would need a feedback from a real life, like systems evaluating position errors of known positions, what is out of ordinary GPS abilities.

Trying the RC...  I'm okay with the lack of built-in GPS averaging, and it's nice to see the app still uses the external version if available.  (I kept a copy of 3.0 which is pre-malware.)

But best of all, after much couch-surfing, I see the issue of cut-off texts with MFV4 maps is almost completely gone, as I probably mentioned before.  It still happens, but very rarely, maybe 1% as often as it used to.

Map rendering does seem a bit slower, BUT as I think I'd said, I'm perfectly willing to accept that in exchange for proper map rendering; I'm guessing it needs to re-render some tiles to fix the text.  Also, I'm testing the RC on an older, slower device, so it's not really a fair comparison.  In short, speed is okay, rendering is wonderful.

LoMaps still seem to be V3.  Will they switch to V4 at some point?  (Sorry if it was mentioned somewhere; I haven't seen it.)

I've set export to directory Locus/export/test, then I've deleted "test" directory in file browser and then pressed "export" button. And no error, all went well. I'm always glad to read some positive news about recent changes, perfect.
Performance is a little worst, it is a correct observation. Anyway, I see there still few places where performance may be improved so it should be better over time.

Switch of LoMaps to V4 is in road-plan, but not with highest priority.

ah I see it now, thanks for the video. It is an issue caused by incorrectly defined directory in app main settings > Misc > Default directories > set "export" directory. You maybe wrote this before. I still thought that it is incorrectly set an export directory for this single track.

Today I recorded a track for less than 2h with last beta, Locus used 10% of battery power, it's the first time I see it so hungry.

Battery consumption is affected by too many parameters to simply say reason for your increase.
It is needed to have constant, repeatable conditions.

I've just published one more Beta version 3.40.0 RC2. Among the few minor fixes, I've spend almost two days on speed up of the cold start itself. Little risky just before release so hope, there won't be any serious issue. (Michal reported me a problem with loading some LoMaps, but I have no more information from him, so hope it was unique problem).

Holey moley, that's fast now!  No problems seen with RC2 on my Android 6 / Nexus 7 with its motley collection of maps, points, etc.

Wow, Beta starts instantly. Ready in like 0.1 second if no points and tracks loaded. With 300 tracks loaded, a few seconds, but I also think much faster start.

Annoying behaviour observed in stable version. If centering to gps is turned on (bottom left button), this also happens in route planner, which imo does not make sense.

OK, there *is* something wrong here. If I change language in Locus settings away from system (which is English), Locus texts remain English.

I usually measure ~2.5%/h, so 5% would be terrible, but I don't have any long (5+h) ride scheduled in order to accurately test.

@menion - if I leave Locus+track recording enabled & just have phone sitting on ground for 5 hours, is this still equivalent to a bike ride for 5 hours (display turned off in both scenarios)?

V 3.40.0 RC2 - confirm dramatic decrease in startup speed.

TTS - seems OK for me. Wolfgang I observe that German is top of TTS list. Coincidence?

I fight with the custom setup of language since we changed app format (since 3.38 version). Still not perfectly solved ... little weird that with the latest two Beta versions, there was no change. Anyway, I'll test it rather once more, thanks @balloni55.

Not sure if this is equivalent. Maybe consumption will be a little less than during movement. One thing is internal sensors (rotation, gravity etc.) and second thing is that equitation to compute GPS location often works on iteration method and when you do not move, location does not change => compute is faster => less consumed energy. Just guess.

Yes I know. Every version I try some modifications and there always are some cases when it does not work.
Next iteration in the next version ... again :/

I spend on the correct change of the language over application another 1/2 day and still no positive results, weird system.

New version 3.40 just published. No major bugs expected except this language selection, sorry. Anyway, the language selected for the whole system should be respected .. at least this.

Thanks for the help with this version. Under the hood is quite a lot of changes and also my preparation for the completely new layout for the main map screen & dark mode version for whole app. Anyway,  don't worry ;).
