Title: NTRIP client released
Post by: berkley on May 21, 2011, 15:54:24
Hi Guys,

just discovered an app on the market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=c ... tripclient (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lefebure.ntripclient)

It is a NTRIP client to improve GPS quality. Will mean, with the right Bluetooth GPS Receiver you'll get submeter accuracy!!! You have to have access to some RTK broadcaster, register here:
http://igs.bkg.bund.de/ntrip/registeruser (http://igs.bkg.bund.de/ntrip/registeruser)

I personally didn't get it to work right now. Even with the windows NTRIP client from same dev:
http://lefebure.com/software/ntripclient/ (http://lefebure.com/software/ntripclient/)

I guess, it's a lack of my Bluetooth device, which has a MTK II Chipset:
http://www.qstarz.com/Products/GPS%20Pr ... 18XT-F.htm (http://www.qstarz.com/Products/GPS%20Products/BT-Q818XT-F.htm)

Tried to configure it with this little tool:
http://www.4dsystems.com.au/prod.php?id=110 (http://www.4dsystems.com.au/prod.php?id=110)

Maybe someone wants to try it and check if he gets it to work? Maybe someone with a GPS device with a built-in u-blox or antaris chipset? Use this tool to setup your device:
http://www.u-blox.com/en/evaluation-too ... enter.html (http://www.u-blox.com/en/evaluation-tools-a-software/u-center/u-center.html)

I know I know, a lot of links and a lot to test. Please, if you do some testing, be sure what you do. It won't brick your phone, but you can destroy your GPS device!!!

Let us know, if someone gets it to work without buying a 5.000 $ GPS device :D

Cheers, berkley

Times have changed. Now, 11 Years later, it is no problem to get a RTK-GPS-receiver and use Lefebure Ntrip-Client for cm-precision for below 500€ (Ardusimple RTK-Handheld Surveyer Kit (https://www.ardusimple.com/product/rtk-handheld-surveyor-kit/)). It works well in live RTK-Modus, but of course needs a permanent data connection to the internet during use.

2 problems I have now:

- I would like to save the RAW data from the device in RINEX-files for logging without a permanent data connection to the internet during use and for later postprocessing and do not know how to do it. This may be is not a Locus task.

- I would like to have Locus Pro 3 to show a scale on the map, which shows even submeter distances (mm). Currently Locus scale indicator shows km or m only (see screenshot). Below 1m it shows Zero, which is of no use (the same for the display of distances in Locus, and a deeper zoom).
Additionally, the numerical resolution of the geographic coordinates stored by Locus seems to be too low. However, I am not quite sure whether this this low resolution is already provided by the Lefebure Ntrip client.

And 11 years later, it is no problem to use the NTRIP client directly in the Locus Map 4 as an app native feature ;).
