Title: Searching for translator into German
Post by: menion on June 13, 2015, 17:05:10
Hello guys,

our manual pages grow fast. English version is almost complete, Czech version somewhere in the middle and third most used language - German, is missing.

We already started work on this task with @Christian here from forum, but in the end, due to some miss-understanding, our deal broke. So I've started to search for another translation-guy.

Instructed from previous failure, I wants to define precise conditions before we start any work.

Main requirement: good knowledge of Locus and good understanding of English. Some skills with translations are of course welcome.

Payment: 0.009 € per character. It's almost top price we usually pay in Czech for English > German translation, on second side it is also less then average price you (as German users), usually paid in Germany. Just for info.

What to translate: main goal is our doku wiki site. Secondary also texts from Google Play and some other alternative texts. All translations take care Michal, so system of work is - shared spreadsheet on Google Docs, where Michal write link to article, number of characters and expected price. Translator after finish, just fill day when translation was done. Day will useful for Hanka, who will then count prices for payments every month.

In case of translations for Google Play or other out-of-wiki texts, I think best should be simple send text over email. Anyway here is even more important to confirm number of words and expected price before translation starts. I do not wants anymore any discussion about price after translation is done!

If anyone will be interested, let me know here or privately on jiri.mlavec@asamm.com

Because I believe that Locus deserve good German manual, I hope we will find any active user for translation and not any Czech agency. It should be a lot cheaper for us (average price in CZ around 0.006€/char), but I'm also more then sure, that translation of such specific manual for a person, who do not know and use Locus, will be really really terrible.

To make it a bit more clear for translators, what do you mean with "Payment: 0.009 € per character"?
This sentence: "If anyone will be interested, let me know here or privately on" has 62 characters.
One possible translation of this sentence: "Falls jemand interessiert ist, lass es mich wissen, hier oder privat an" has 72 characters.
Do you pay for the result in German (72 x 0,009€ = ~ 0,65€) or for the English source (62 x 0,009€ = ~ 0,56€)?
And how much can you calculate in € for existing English translation at the moment?

@Jüsc
[GER]
One possible translation of this sentence: "Falls jemand interessiert ist, lass es mich wissen, hier oder privat an" has 72 characters.
Wie Du schon geschrieben hast
"One possible translation"
Aber man könnte es auch damit übertreiben, zB mit 125 Zeichen (lt. Editor)
"Falls jemand daran interessiert ist, so soll er es mich doch bitte wissen lassen. Entweder hier im Forum oder auch privat an"
Da wäre auch nichts falsch dran.
Darum erscheint es mir mehr als logisch, den orig.engl. Text als Grundlage zu verwenden.
Alles andere wird ja dann zur Buchstabenzählerei.

We pay for amount of words in English, so in this case, it is correctly 62 characters. Michal copy text into Notepad, remove formatting and then copy to Libre office which displays amount of characters.

And how much for all texts now? I have no idea ... a lot probably :).
