Mainly bugfixing and some UI improvements. Do not forget to download old Locus cursors in Store ;).

Even it do not look so, changes in design (mainly invisible once) are huge. Hope there will be no serious issue and all will enjoy new version without any complains ;)

But the search function for POIs does not work anymore. It finds the item but I cannot select it...
OK, 2015 time for a blue version of Locus, but stop implementing Lollipop theme, above all don't implement those stupid lollipop round buttons

@gynta: thanks for remind. I was checking your log right after you uploaded it to dropbox, but there is nothing useful inside. Hard to say what to do with it, because log has no useful info and I'm unable to simulate any problems with world vector map :/. I'll try it once more.

I agree with you, as I have written earlier. The whole material design is childish. (Not a fault of Locus, but still it makes this beautiful app less usable)
- The zoom in and out buttons are like cheap plastic (seen in announcement)
- A grey or dark grey theme would be a lot nicer instead of this blue colour.
- A lot of space is wasted (e. G. Tracks list)
- The satellites screen is really inconsistent as an example. (I know Menion is still working on the look of it)
But it could have the advantage I have seen in other programs that the user may easily change between a light or a dark theme. I guess that must be a somewhat built in feature of this material thing.
New version was updated this morning ten minutes before i left the house for a bike tour.
The new center cross cursor is tooooo small. It was missed the whole day :( my eyes are older than 14 years!
I would support the idea of a color theme for Locus (pro!) . The blue theme is not my style and Locus looks strange to me.
I guess there was a lot of work "behind the stage" and users always see the surface only.

@mambofive: ah, this is better description then from @TimoG. I have found a part of code that handle this. It was commented with description "require rewrite". So I did small rewrite today evening. Will work as expected in next version, thanks.

Not an easy task for such huge app as Locus is, so I'm waiting for bigger interest ...

My reasons are simple - simplifications - do you know settings "Center cross"? I want to completely remove it. Current "map center" has less and less usage. Now it is possible to tap on everything on a map, it is not needed to hover it with center as before. So I'm testing something between old center cross and small black circle (result of mentioned settings). And something between is just smaller center cross. ;). Simple ...
With function "Add route and measure" created new routes get date 01.01.1970 in track menu.

Using center cross for "where i am?" exactly, for add /measure route often and for switching center in map. In my opinion there should be an indicator for map center necessarily!

So fiddling with Locus outdoor without glasses is difficult to me. Taking the center cross away is gonna a big mess. Menion, I will be your hardest critic for usability and readability outdoor...

It looks a bit as if some options in cache Listing are greyed out and not clickable. But they are... That should be fixed into black

I would also like to add that removing the center cross completely would be a "killer" for me, too.
If you want a serious reason: The finger is never as exact as the cross. I appreciate that almost everything is tappable now on the map screen but for all kinds of editing, you'll need some sharp tool, not a blunt one like your finger. As long as not all smartphones are like Samsung's Note series,
we need the crosshairs!
However, after discovering gyntas map cursors in the shop, I'm totally fine with having a smaller, less intrusive default center cross. Just please drop the idea of removing it altogether - I can't imagine would the upside would be, but the downside would be enormous...
Another thing I would be fine with is if hovering the center cross over a point wouldn't do anything anymore - the old title pop-ups are more disturbing than helpful now anyways.

I've improved selector for map cursors with ability to quickly load them over store, so if there will be any interesting cursors, we will gladly place them to store.

Yeah, reading it again now, I have to say that was obvious and I jumped to conclusions (because others did before ;)). So all happy 8)
Haven't had much of a chance to try Locus in earnest over the last few months , so armed with my trusty phone,( and reading all the comments on the forum ), off I went.
To be truthful I had not one problem. The centre cross wasn't a big thing, the only thing that I need is an indication to were I am. The blue circle(when stationary) and the Blue triangle (when moving) are all I need, and hopefully they are staying. I personally don't need a cross to show me the map centre, I can see it on the screen.

Recently I used navigation with Locus, I prefer my own de.tts, located in Locus/data/tts. But Locus uses its internal one.
Was there a change in the last months which now ignores the user specified .tts file?

Willy, thank you for testing. I again did my test and have to say that my de.tts is ignored.
I remember I had a similar problem one year ago and the mistake was my file had version 1 while the internal one was updated to version 2. But the version didn't change again, it's still 2.

I checked again with jsonlint.com and it told me that the file is wrong as also found out by stebu. Sorry, I used the wrong file for the test :-(.

But what I would Locus like to do is present an error message instead of silently ignoring the error and doing something else (loading the default file).
An error message like "Syntax of Locus/data/tts/de.tts is wrong, remove file for using Locus' default. Check file content with e.g. www.jsonlint.com" would be sufficient.

The same behavior is in "FieldNotes" here about i spoke with ormoru.

I have a while so ... currently, when you try for example download a PQ and you get an error, in top bar, you should still see a line with small "Doors" buttons. This clear your stored profile in Locus so this is a "logout" button which you wants.

Hmm you are correct, it is not possible to logout in Locus Free as you should be able to login only in test version. Otherwise all feature that require usage of Geocaching Live are available only in Locus Pro. So if you have working login in Locus Free, only way I see is to reset Locus preferences.

but especially for new users a not allways visible (well hidden) GS-login function is a deterrence to use Locus Free and parhaps later on to buy PRO :(
Also missing logout option in Free, keep in mind, a family with one device and different GS-accounts....
I think a always available section login/logout in "Geocache settings" would be a benefit. to Free and PRO ;)

Every feature that require geocaching live, should open a window with login options. Such window should not be visible in Locus Free so there is no option to login at all. Because of this, there should be no reason for "logout" option. Or am I missing something? :)

Yes, just as Balloni55 said: there are e.g. families with more than one account. So if they have only one device with them, they need the option to log out and log in as another player.

My situation,
at the moment i have installed
official Locus Free and Promy workflow:
- i log out PRO from GS and close PRO
- i reset FREE preferences, start it, download additional data
- i create a offline log with FREE
- now i open "FieldNotes" and proceed "upload Fieldnote"
with FREE- login to GS with successfull upload of this fieldnote

- while opening my account on PC i see this uploaded fieldnote :)
- to verify i open PRO > i am furtermore logged off on GS

Search option: ADDRESS & PLACE.
Using Predictive Text On on my Lollipop with 3x4 numeric keyboard there is no something like 'one touch disable predictive text option' as was on old Android systems, then hard to type any city name not spending half a day for doing that.
So I do rotate horizontal screen having QWERTY keyboard being able to type any non dictionary place name. Unfortunately when rotating back to vertical view, Locus clears the search window (from vertical to horizontal same).
Why am I using 3x4 keyboard with predictive text but not QWERTY one? As I use one thumb only typing twice time faster then any QWERTY user (proven;), having my other hand occupied usually.
Anyway, is it any chance to fix that glitch on next version please?
Kona, you made me a hard hours.
I understand issue you found and absolutely agree it should work as expected. Anyway it took me a three hours to find and issue in Android itself that really complicates me a work. So unfortunately, for now, I have no simple solution on this problem. It requires rewrite of search dialog to different system otherwise rotation won't be correct. Sorry to say it. I'm sure, soon or later, this issue will be fixed! Thanks for understanding.

No problem at all. ;)
I blame Samsung since Android 4, as they are pretty good with disabling usable options, in that case XT9 On-Off key which used to work perfectly on my ancient 2.3.6 device. Now since Android 4 disabling predictive text is hidden so deep, even if you custom Gear button On, on your keypad is annoying.
For sure there are third party apps for that.
In simply words, typing thinks such web-address with predictive text is complicated, but typing essays such emails or WhatsApp messages, predictive is unbeatable.

- if i add to this cathegory a POI with another e.g. orange pin icon and add to this a attachement, it is possible to delete attachement
- if i change red pin icon of POI to e.g red cross icon it is also possible to delete attachement

yes: new folder, new POI new attachement. Same behavior, can´t delete attachement until i change the POI icon

I allways use TEST and FREE with english language and so i noticed changes at first start of TEST version.
sensor settings were also changed, this i noticed before on my jogging trip

because of "changed settings" i create a full backup with PRO and restored this in TEST
result after first start of TEST, additional data must be downloaded and button of GC4L and FielNotes on right side panel are gone an changed to one pencil button.
If i restore this backup in Pro there is no need for additional data download and buttons on right side panel appear as expected.

Don't know if somebody asked this already (didn't find it).
I have a problem with the function "choose from map" (german "Von der Karte wählen".
When I open a geocache and want to create a new waypoint and choose the above function to choose the coordinates from an other point, the coordinates doesn't change to the ones of the chosen point. They stay on the center cross.

while creating the video, i noticed that current behavior is unlucky ???
In video first i create new WPT02, tap on map in the village and see the label "Select", after that i move the mapcenter to the forrest and confirm hookbutton down left. The new WPT is set to mapcenter in forrest :(
In second attempt i tap oncemore the village, get the label "Select" and confirm with click on label now WPT03 is on required possition :D
I think if user select a point on map, see the label, confirm with hookbutton he dont want the coords of mapcenter.
So my ideas, i prefere the first 8)
1. delete possibility "free select on map", useing mapcenter with zoom and move map is more precisely and clearly!
2. if user use "free select on map" he want consciously this possition and than locus should use this coords after confirming with hookbutton.
3. if user use "free select on map" display on label e.g. "click to store/use"

Well, I think it is a matter of getting used to it. By adding this "Select label" method we enriched this function for those who are not accustomed to the other method, ie. mapscrencenter > hookbutton. Maybe a floating popup with a howto hint would help, Menion?

I haven´t got any autobackup since end of december althought it was set, and now it work :)

@balloni, @Michal, @JoxM: hard to say what is best solution. I agree with Peter who always say that people do not read texts. So hint is not a solution by me for this simple feature. So I see only two options here:
1. remove small white popup when you tap on a map and leave only bottom "pick center" button as was in previous versions
2. rename label "Select" to something like balloni wrote "Click to choose" or similar
I personally cannot say what is better and I know precisely how everything on this screen works :).
@0709: unfortunately this is not possible. "Home" button is probably only button (maybe also "Power"), where as a developer I have absolutely no control over it. So even "Screen lock" cannot lock usage of "Home" button, sorry.
Alright... actually how many people expressed their confusion with this solution except Balloni? Maybe be there are hundreds of angry complaints and then I was wrong but I can't see any. Those who welcome this option will not write anything and most surely even don't have a clue about this forum.

As I don't use the english version I'm not able to follow the whole discussion. Think I have to change the language
So again.
While geocaching and walking a multicache I come to a stage without given coordinates. So I add a point to locus on the map.
Afterwards I want to add this point as a waypoint in the listing of the cache.
So I create a new waypoint and want to pick the point which I created from the map while it is not centered. And then the coordinates in this new waypoints are the one from the center and not the ones from tge created point. In the past this worked. I'm sure, because I used it very often. Hope it's clearer now...

@JoxM: thanks, we understand where you see a problem, but we have no clear idea how to solve it. Current, you should tap on white popup "Select" and not on button at bottom :).
@0709: which button you talk about? These that are in settings for for example "Notify when GPS fix lost" etc?
@menion, @JoxM etc.: what about this - there would be still two ways how to select a point on the map: 1) by tapping the mapscreen on the spot where I want the point (a label with some later editable point name pops up), 2) by the mapscreen center. Both ways would be confirmed by the hookbutton. Huh?

@0709: thanks for screenshots. On first screenshot of your device Tab4 7" - it has to be an issue in Android. There are completely missing big black/blue dots on end of switcheds. Also second screen is little bit weird. Old Locus version on Ace2? Because on all devices it should look really same as on screen 3 - TabPro 10". Hmm ... hard to say what to do with first device. Is it same on all screens? Also directly in Android settings, are there used same switches?
@Michal, @JoxM, @balloni: I have to say, that in this case, I'm still not sure, which solution is best, so I'll try to give chance to simple rename of "Popup label" and we will see. Thanks for your opinions!
New BETA 3.6.2.3
Two things to test
1. new system for definition of content of top/right panel. Maybe something is slower, maybe little bit confused for you because you used few years old system. But try to use it a while
2. mainly for gynta, finally - http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/edit-trackpoint-insert-new-points-in-a-row . Try to start "Edit location" in bottom menu and you will see. It is not exactly what you wanted, but it is something "between". Not sure if will be clear how to use it.
@0709: cannot agree on 100% that old system was better visible. You have to consider also screen of device. Old UI on your new device will be also less visible because all items/buttons will be smaller. Anyway on your last device is visible how it should look like on all devices, no matter if you have 4.X or 5.X. What you see on first device is an issue and I have absolutely no idea how to fix it, because as a dev, I have no direct influence on how these buttons look like (except color).
I'm still wayting on a new version of one essential Google library that take care about this stuff. There is more issues, so please wait together with me and believe that this problem will be fixed. Thanks for understanding.

Question: While you're at this, is there a chance you could also include deleting a section from within a track (http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/cut_tracks)? I think it's a very related feature and it would be odd if you could add a bunch of trackpoints in the same step, but not delete a bunch at once.
Yes, I'm aware of this and I was already thinking about it. But, I just not yet know, how to simply implement it, because I still miss a mouse with two buttons :). There is missing a too to manually by finger select an area, which should be little bit problematic .. hmm, I'll think about it more

Yes, sometimes a mouse is just best...
What about the following:
- Select point
- Choose "Edit on map"
- Tools menu: "Remove from here"
- Select last point of the part that should be removed
- Now the same screen appears as when you're removing all points before/after, user has chance to accept or cancel
That sounds rather straightforward to me, but of course you're the develope ;)
I hear menions old maxim "A phone app can not be a perfect track editor" - and so I'm happy for this small step.. ;)
New set Top/Right side panel:

- "section" ADD NEW ITEM on top of this window would be better i think ;)

i want to know how looks a "virgin" locus for a new user.
So i "Reset preferences" on Testversion, the result is not as i´ve expected :-[
some settings are changed :), but buttons in right side panel are displayed exactly as before. :(

In discription of Reset preferences is written "Reset all settings........"
hehe, it is possible :). Locus till now stored configuration of panels in separate file in Locus/data/config. But this has changed and now this settings is stored inside Locus. When you reset Locus, it now do not delete required file in config directory and after start it loads old panel config back :).

Tried new Beta yesterday and today, two observations:
- GPS catch not working. Had to reboot, tried again with Beta, no success, used older Pro - worked
- as you can imagine, quiet a bit of my trip through Paris was lost, so I tried to fill in manually. First step is moving the first point. Put it to La Defense, pressed the new "OK" at the top - nothing happens. Old Pro does the job well in the old way.
Any thoughts ?

I downloaded a few caches using GC4Locus. Among those there was one with special characters in name, which (I presume) cause Locus to crash when trying to open this cache - via map or via cache list, does not matter. It's GC5DAWZ and the problem can be reliably reproduced. :)

@michaelbechtold: sorry, but if there is any problem, I need step-by-step method to simulate it. And from your description, I have no idea what's wrong. What about GPS? You had no GPS Fix with latest Locus beta version?
@balloni55: you talk about change in config.cfg file? This file is stored in backup!! Isn't possible you restored it from backup?

you are right, now after unzip i see config.cfg is in backup.zip included, but it isn´t restored.
so e.g.
gui_point_screen_tabs_order=14|1|11|12|13|16
is stored in backup
i change config.cfg on device to
gui_point_screen_tabs_order=
and save it, restart device and restore complete including restart of device, but these values are not restored
Hmm maybe you pointed me on one possible issue. I'm made an improvement so in next version, restored config from backup should really remain restored. Currently it is probably overwrote when Locus is restarted (overwrote with current loaded settings). Thanks!
