The timeline between last test version and new update was very very short.
We have no time to find all bugs/problems :)

again, there was no mail from crowdin system.
So most languages are incomplete.
A short information would be gratifying.

@gynta: thanks. I believe there was enough time, because between last few versions was mainly minor UI changes. And it really seems, that there is no serious issue.

@szebenyib: if you do just basic update from previous 3.2.3 version, then it's quite weird.

Thanks for new release!
I found that, in personal map tab in maps manager, all file names in a folder is shown now.  I like it very much :)

I have two suggestions on it.
1) 'Three dot menu > Details' shows only zoom numbers and total size. So it's not actually details. It would be nice to show list of files, zoom, each size and etc.
2) In quick map switch, it's better not showing the file names. Showing only the folder name as before would be enough and better for the purpose of quickly switching the map.

p.s. I confirmed the new ja.tts works fine in new release. Thanks again.

as jusc wrote, this issue happen only for two-point lines. I created system that you may now tap on track on any!! place, not just directly on any point (as worked all four years before). Unfortunately I use one function where was test on at least three points, not just two. So this happen. Sorry

@ta-ka: thanks, I'll think about it. There is also one more secret benefit. You may now place maps into two level directory structure, not just one as now :).

@balloni, @Bucky kid: there is no settings for auto-zoom now, all is automatic.

I don't know if this is new in this release but I think it is. In my Motorola Moto G (KitKat), if I turn on the system settings accessibility feature for gesture zoom (double tap to zoom etc) as well as the Locus feature of hiding the top, bottom or side panels is turned on, the panels won't return on double tap, neither does the system zoom happen.

It was an update from 3.2.3. I had a phone reinstall, and restored 3.2.3 via titanium backup, I don't know if that matters. Maybe I have not opened it before upgrading as I mainly used free for testing. Never mind it is not a big deal :-) If it happens again, I will write it here.

Hi Menion. I have two things to mention;
1) I have one locus directory on internal "sd card" and one on external sd card. Locus used to start pretty quickly recently, after your fix and speedup of directory recognition :-) But now it is slow again.

2) Track export to Gpsies does not work: after I click "export" a progress window saying "working..." appears, disappears in 1-2s and there is no new track on gpsies website. Not sure if it is due to locus or gpsies update. But it used to work before.

Cheers

@merilius: hard to say why start of Locus may be slower now. Anyway suggest to check amount of loaded points, tracks etc. Also Locus should display what is loaded at start.

About GPSies: interesting. I've just tried it and it works for me without any problem. Login in correct? Track has any valid data (few points at least)? etc..

@Christian: write me more, I don't know what exactly you mean. If you use compute of directions, you needs to have enabled "Compute instructions" on same page

Title: Re: [APP] - version 3.3.X+ (updated 4.10.2014)
Post by: merilius on October 06, 2014, 19:31:37
gpsies: my login data is correct and locus verifies it is correct (so it is connecting to gpsies). The track is a long one 10h of cycling. I checked with a much smaller track and also no upload.

startup: I meant the time between launching locus and when the question about Locus directory appears. So it is before loading any data points.

Just came back off my Holiday to find a new version of Locus. Menion you've been busy.
Really like what you have done to the UI in the Maps, points and track screen. All the info I need is there, especially on the Points screen.  There is one thing thing that puzzles me. When I tap the tools button in the Points Screen, I get access to all that functions I require to carry out on my selections, Move, Copy, Export, Update etc..  But on the top there is a Tick button for selection (not the eye from previous screen) and a button for sorting.
Maybe I've been laying to long in the sun, but personally I can't see a use for them. Maybe I'm wrong, and others have a use for them.

hi, I have disfavour about the method how estimated time to arrive on navigation is determined. I observe it highly depends on current speed. This tends to display strongly incorrect values if speed during trip highly fluctuates (ie: long uphill or downhill stage with bike). I wish the estimated time would be determined from much longer term (ideally from beginning trip) -> The longer term for estimated time determining the finest ETA value. This is very simple to calc - distance passed (on track) since starting navigation / track length (remaining length since starting navigation if starting in middle) * elapsed time since starting navigation

What a nice surprise .. http://www.bestmobileappawards.com/app-submission/locus-map. Did you already recommended app by top button as me? ;)

@christian: write me please step-by-step what you do. Thanks

@merillius: damn, I have no idea where is a problem and seems you are only one with such issue. Do you have simple name & passwork or it contains any special characters? So I may simulate your login credentials.

@CaptKaos: another possitive feedback. I'm maybe going to start think, that I did it good :). Use for them ... in old version, checkboxes were dual-function. So when you wanted to delete all tracks, you firstly had to check them (load them on map). Now it`s not needed. You may simply delete tracks that are not loaded. So it`s faster and more intuitive. And also because of this, top buttons may helps you to select faster what you need.

@Bucky Kid: it`s more clever now then before. Anyway problem is probably if you use guiding or navigation with generated navigation orders right? In these cases, Locus do not know if you do "car ride / hike / bike", so it takes "hike" as default which has predefined speed around 4 km/h. I`ll improve it soon (hope), but not in the way you wants, because I`m worried result won`t be good in case something dramatically change during navigation (from bike to foot etc.)

if i record a track and take pictures, red arrow-icons are displayed on picture position after saveing the track.
If i export  this track, also red arrow icon is exported and visible.
But if i hide this track and reopen it, the photo icon is displayed and also if i export this track!

And this red arrow icon is also stored in track preview map, so i have to change styl to reload it and now the photoicon is also visible here.

Hi Menion,
with intransparent "magic" (confirming best intents, but they won't help) you will never silence those discussions. Why not offer car/bike/hike/from start/last 30 mins (or similar) - and let people switch by a finger tip, and disclose what baseline is used for what ETA they currently see.
Just my 2c

Version 3.3.1.
I try to find out, how I can change the colour of a track.
What is the difference between "Grundfarbe" (primary colour) and "Umrandung" (border line) colour?
If I choose a tansparent primary colour and a full colour for border line, the whole track line gets the full border line colour without any transparency.
I thought I would get small border lines with a transparent middle of the track.
Maybe I missunderstand the function?

Thanks in advance

I know that you already dropped the question, may you listen to my opinion?

Online fill altitude function is useful because google elevation api provides both height and sea depth. On the other hand, offline SRTM provides only height and no sea depth. There are people enjoying boat fishing near coast as one of the outdoor activity. It is interesting to know the sea depth along the boat track, at fishing point, etc.

Moreover, I also would like to have a function for "Dynamic altitude" to switch online and offline.  Currently, if SRTM data which covers current map center on the sea is installed, dynamic altitude just shows '0 m'.  It is not wrong... but not nice. (btw, the description "When map stay calm for a while, application get and show altitude in center *from online service*." is a bit incorrect.)

I would like to select online or offline for "Dynamic altitude".

EDIT: I've created new response at Locus help desk.

Hi Menion,
in version 3.3.1  I noticed a difference between Free and Pro version (I know that there are planned differences, of course, but this could be a flaw).
In 3.3.1 Free the track information page shows a map preview with 33000 points correctly:
(http://s28.postimg.org/3p6290hft/Locus_3_3_1_Free.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/3p6290hft/)

In 3.3.1 Pro the track Information only shows the track preview:
(http://s24.postimg.org/qtilzvpfl/Locus_3_3_1_Pro.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/qtilzvpfl/)

It takes a very very long time on my device to load the track information page: 30 seconds (Free version is 4 seconds faster...). The thumbnails on the track folder list load very fast. Because of Menions warning to save the database when this feature was introduced, I guess they are stored in it. Wouldn't it make sense to also store the track preview in the database? In case the preview is dependend on device resolution it could be recreated when a new resolution is detected.

Many Greetings
MichaelZ

@ta-ka: thanks, understand. I hoped that I should completely remove "Online altitude" for a Pro version. Hmm, have to check if there isn't any source for HGT files with correct values for a sea depth instead of 0

@MichaelZ: it's more complicated with this big overview. Anyway do you use same map in both versions when you tap on track?

@balloni: you don't see TR value, because your device do not have enough space for it. And difference in style - it's based on your sorting. Try to change 'sort' settings and you'll see.

@MichaelZ: it's more complicated with this big overview. Anyway do you use same map in both versions when you tap on track?

No, I didn't use the same map. When opening the track list I even was in a complete different area on the Pro version. So I understand that the map preview is always freshly rendered using the last displayed map.

I opened the track info page after viewing different maps of the area and here is the result:
(http://s1.postimg.org/opl1gaph7/Locus_Map_Preview_Comparison.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/opl1gaph7/)
The first is OSM vector map, the other are raster maps in SQLite, not always covering all of the area of the track. It would be nice to have a solution that stores a feasible preview map in the database.

The thumbnail in the track list seems to be always rendered from the OSM World map? By the way, the default thumbnail is so much better now than the question mark.

Thanks for the screenshots. Results is exactly as I expect. In case, there is not any low zoom level in certain map, track may be partially out of screen. I have some serious problem with improving this because I have very low information about map, before is firstly drawn on screen. Just my internal problems.

Anyway I really do not agree/do not want to store big overview in database. I mainly do not see any reason for this.

Small overviews are rendered from best possible vector map you have. If there is no vector map, then blank map is used instead.

For me having to wait half a minute to see track information it would be a reason ;-)

Probably not putting them into tracks.db but a new db? With my device resolution the 320x130 bitmap would be 13kB as compressed png per track. I promise, this is the last post to try to convince you ;-)

Hi guys,

after previous "faster fingers on keyboard then head" question about Online altitude (which btw. leads to quite interesting and not yet solved topic from ta-ka), I have another question. For now very important.

Imagine, you tap on point or track and instead of full screen with tapped item, you firstly get small popup dialog. On this dialog may be few quick buttons for most used features. What should be for you these five features from points and five features for tracks.

Check screenshot to better understand what I mean. I talk about content of "menu" button.

So what you think? Instead of huge screens with points and track, just these simple windows with few quick actions and ability to tap on view itself, to display big points screen or big track screen. Hmm?

my expectations of the behavior when tapping on track
1. highlighting and display the direction of the track (using arrows as line and height as color)
2. display trackinfo special values: way to go / went; heightmeters to go / went
3. show option to display more details _or_ edit track
4. show more details including statistics, description
5. edit track

Don't know what was wrong with the old "many button" system? Not sexy enough?

Hi, sorry for the length.  Should this be on the help forum broken into many "ideas".

I had some thoughts on the interface/usability of the tracks screens.

1) The order of screens is not consistent.

When I start Locus Pro, and there is a track on the screen, pressing it and going to the information screen makes sense.  But,

A) From the track list screen, pressing on a track takes me to its information screen.  The Android back arrow goes back to the list screen (which it should - Good!).
If I go from the information screen and then to the map (via the bottom left button), then press the track on the map screen, I go back to the information screen.  Okay, but I don't see how to go back to the list screen from the Info screen.  The android back arrow now takes me to the map screen (logical I guess, but I want to go back to the list screen where I started).  To get back to the list screen, it seems I need to 1) go back to the map screen and then 2) go to the data menu then 3) to the list of tracks folders, then 4) pick tracks list folder I was in.  Now I am back at the top of the list, but not at the track I started from.  I have to remember which track in the list I was looking at and then scroll to it.  I would like the track list screen to be an anchor from which to browse back and forth to the map/info screens directly.

B) Similarly, from the track list screen, pressing the left side little map area, takes me to the map screen.  Using the Android back arrow, I am asked if I really want to exit Locus (I don't).  Now, pressing the track on the map screen lets me choose the track (if more than one item under my finger) which now takes me to the information screen (it should go back to the track list) with the same behavior as described above under A).
Basically, I want to look at several tracks in turn from the list without having to start over again and again by finding where I was on the list.

2) I would like an option to have Locus render the small maps on the track list screen without leaving the track list screen.  Maybe, if one or more tracks are chosen (eyeball lighted), then there could be an option to render the small maps.  Alternately, pressing the small map area could cause it to render, with a long press to the same area going to the map screen.

3) A track name cannot be fully seen on the list screen if it is too long.  Only when the track is displayed on the map screen, is the name seen in full over two lines

4) From the track information screen, you can swipe to the right to go screen to screen until you hit the chart screen.  Then this behavior stops swiping the chart screen has no effect, and to continue right, you have to choose "Laps" from the top of the screen.  It would be consistent to be able to swipe the "chart" screen to get to laps screen.

5) The English wording on the laps screen if there is no data should read "Track cannot be separated into laps (it does not contain recorded values)"

6) In landscape on a phone (nexus 4), rather than on a 7" tablet, the "laps" screen has another new behavior - the first three left screens (info, statistics, chart) now are accessed by a drop down box.  Again, better to keep all screens looking the same (unless Android causes this to happen automatically based on screen size)

7) Each interval could be numbered so 8) below is possible

8) Each interval could be marked on the map with a dot which under the center cross would show its number.  Then I could analyze a part of the track from the map, instead of trying to find the lap I am interested in from the list of laps screen.

9) In an actual track (not sure if I recorded it in Locus or from other software) I see my max speed is 30.8.  But, I have two laps showing higher speeds of 37 and 34 mph.  I set the laps to be shortest length possible.

10) I use miles, not kilometers.  The lap length options from the dropdown are .5mi, 1mi, 2mi, 5mi, 10mi.  If I choose "Define", I am asked for a lap length in number of feet.  Now I have to convert what I want to do, (say make it .2mi) into how many feet that is (.2 times 5280ft).  Better to keep the define screen in miles so I can enter .2 mi directly.

11) If I have defined a lap length that is too small, then the 'error' dialog (showing me the smallest allowed length) should remain on the screen with an 'x' until I dismiss it.  I missed the message the first time I defined an interval too small.  Alternately, you could just set it to the smallest length allowed rather than what I asked for.  I believe this is Locus behavior in setting track/route widths elsewhere.

12) Track List screen: The eyeball icon replacing the check box is interesting, but I'm thinking it might be better to keep the normal convention of check box, rather than introduce a new paradigm (I was confused)

@aberfoyle: uff, you probably not yet know, that I don't like too long posts :)

1) This one is really hard. Never heard something like this during years before. But firstly few days ago in one topic and now you here. To be true, I don't know. Since old history, Locus works this way - map is center point of everything and every action that leads to map, throw away everything that happen before. I can't imagine that "back" button take me to other place then to "Exit". If more people think, that Locus should keep a history of all visible screens and back button should go through all screens back, I can create some "poll" or create a new topic on help desk, to get more feedback. Anyway as I wrote, even in my big imagination, I can hardly imagine how this should work :).

2) http://help.locusmap.eu/responses/generate-thumbnails-of-the-selected-tracks

3) I do not consider this to be a problem. Make your names shorter and another important information place into description (that should be also visible in list. At least part of it)

4) yes, old good problem with chart. Swipe is disabled for a chart tab, because slide by finder is currently used for chart. I do not yet have idea for working solution, but I'm aware of this problem.

5) thanks a lot! Every serious English corrections are more then welcome

6) yes, Android cause this happen automatically in case there is not enough space. Not in my power to have influence on this. Maybe just by removing "Distance" label for a top button. Done.

7, 8) is this necessary? If you tap on any lap and display this lap on a map, you may simply see which lap is it. And also others - you simply see distance from - to, on a map. So I see no reason for a numbering here.

9) hmm interesting. May I ask for export GPX file of this track? I'll gladly check it.

10) hmm understand. Small problem is, that Locus works on background with feets/metres. And everything is for readability formatted to higher units. Similar issue should have other people, that run everyday circle 3000 ft and now they need to insert value in miles. I think, this require some more universal solution.

11) I personally do not like simple information that require any additional work to, for example, cancel it. Anyway agree that defined 2 second were too short. Extended to 3.5 s.

12) you are first who has negative feedback on this new system. Absolutely cannot agree, sorry. Checkboxes used before - that was confusing system. Checkboxes were used for two functions at once (display on map & selecting). Now both functions are separated. "Eye" serve only purpose - display/hide on a map. And because of a lot positive feedbacks we received, I'm more then convinced, that this was very good choice.

Hope I gave you at least some answers and thanks for precious feedback. Just next time please, separate it to more topics :). Then also more people should discuss about certain problem/feature. Here it's not possible. Thanks.

Read this yesterday and was interested in your reply Menion.

1) Having been a user of Locus for a while, and the action of the back button IMO is correct, as you wrote " Locus works this way - map is center point of everything and every action that leads to map"

3) Not a problem with Locus, all tracks that I write are short names, eg Dart24 = Dartmoor Double Dozen cache route.

12) I personally like the new way of selecting/displaying Tracks and Points

Menion, I can :-)
Using Locus since years, accumulating more and more POIs and Tracks, I more often have one of those lists in front of me, select an item, and tap the map icon to get to the place. If it is not what I looked for, I have to navigate to th elist again, find the place where I was etc.
So a history to get back to the list position by hitting the "back" key would really help.

Hello menion
congratulation for big and successful step of POI/Track label selection in settings!  ;D
Not freeze until now!!! ;)
one small idea, if a label from PIO is displayed, user has to click in map to hide it if he don´t want to work with it. So it would be  also a good solution to hide this label when map is moved away from this POI.

little wish, is it possible to display start and end dot of a track in different colour? 8)

Thanks for a track on email. You are correct. In case, you choose 100 m (328 ft) as a lap length, in these cases, result is as you wrote. Anyway I currently do not know what to do with it, because

1) max speed of track is just recorded value from GPS
2) average speed for a lap is computed simply by distance / time on lap

In your case, spaces between points are quite big and lap separator (328 ft) is really low. So in this case, probably due to bad GPS precision, change in location was quite big and result is this.

I want to compliment aberfoyle for the assiduity and patience to write down all the li'l stuff. A software growing so fast as Locus needs some reflection on the details sometimes. Thanx for that. And i can confirm most of the items in his list.

The problem with long names in tracklist exists for one year.
Quote from: menion on October 17, 2014, 18:00:44
@aberfoyle: uff, you probably not yet know, that I don't like too long posts :)
...
3) I do not consider this to be a problem. Make your names shorter and another important information place into description (that should be also visible in list. At least part of it)
...

As you can see in this thread (http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3428.msg24710#msg24710), menion promised to keep this in mind. So i'm waiting patiently.

Due to this problem I changed some times ago the syntax of the naming and renamed and shortened all my tracks in DB and on PC also - a lot of work. Now with version 3.3.0 i have 38 characters in one line on Galaxy Note instead of 33 before (smaller font size in list??) but most of the long names are still cutted. With 3.3.0 there is a small teaser from description visible in tracklist. Thats great and a little help! So i have to change all of the description to use this as a workaround for the missed second line.
But with this feature showing also the map thumbnail and some values (height meters are missed!) the list is tattered and tracks are difficult to find when a lot of tracks in the list. And i have a lot of tracks.
So i suggest to solve this new (small) problem and keep the tracklist scalable make a foldable container wich is closed by default and can be opened by tapping on the track name. This container can contain all the preview and values and the teaser of the description and other stuff still to come. The list is going to be a list again.

I guess new problems are generated when Locus is pimped by mini maps, thumbnails and more information because the area which can be used has still the same size. So be careful when pimping ;)

I'm old school: expecting compressed information, no trumpery, K.I.S.S.
So i'm a little bit afraid that Locus can become ... to big and multicolored. May be the young dudes expect it. Me not.
Functionality has the priority. And no software should force the user to do something he doesn't want.

Regards,
Christian

On device with small screen the right side of large label is under right side panel, with thick finger it is difficult to touch the arrow button and not the button of right side panel.

if i start to edit a track and open trackdetails, after click on back button the fields of trackedit are grayed and an orange popup window apeares.

Hi, thanks for checking into the max speed vs lap speed situation.  Using more realistic lap sizes I'm sure there is either less a problem or not a problem at all.  I was just playing with the extremes. :)

Also, I had a thought on how to get back to the track list position from which I went either to the map or to the information screen from a particular track.

Can you add a function to the information screen that takes one back to the track list positioned on the track that is shown in the information screen?  This way there is no need to worry about the Android back arrow.  Since I already go to the information screen from the map screen (touch track), it is not a burden to then choose a function that lets me go back to the list from that screen.

As you can see in this thread (http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3428.msg24710#msg24710), menion promised to keep this in mind. So i'm waiting patiently.

And that's already happen. Because I was aware of this issue, track thumbnail is below name! So name can take advantage of a whole width of screen. Previously there were and icon.

Quote from: Christian on October 18, 2014, 15:48:30
But with this feature showing also the map thumbnail and some values (height meters are missed!) the list is tattered and tracks are difficult to find when a lot of tracks in the list. And i have a lot of tracks.
So i suggest to solve this new (small) problem and keep the tracklist scalable make a foldable container wich is closed by default and can be opened by tapping on the track name. This container can contain all the preview and values and the teaser of the description and other stuff still to come. The list is going to be a list again.

Easy to say, harder to create. Is this really needed? Now when title may be longer and part of description is visible?

Quote from: Christian on October 18, 2014, 15:48:30
I guess new problems are generated when Locus is pimped by mini maps, thumbnails and more information because the area which can be used has still the same size. So be careful when pimping ;)
Width is same. But as you noticed, height has increased to be able to contain all data. I hope new layout is more friendly then before.

Quote from: Christian on October 18, 2014, 15:48:30
I'm old school: expecting compressed information, no trumpery, K.I.S.S.
So i'm a little bit afraid that Locus can become ... to big and multicolored. May be the young dudes expect it. Me not.
Functionality has the priority. And no software should force the user to do something he doesn't want.
I'm always searching for best compromise ...

Geocache label is not updated after geocache update.
e.g. i search for TB´s and tap on map from cache icon to cache icon till i find a cache which consist  a TB, i open the cache, update it (in the meantime the TB was grabbed) and go back to mapview. The label is furthermore opened but not updated.

If update of label is not possible, it will be better to hide it while listing is opened.

Tried the test version 3.3.1.2 mainly to try the popup labels for points.
Really liked it, especially when doing a series of caches. Touching the icon allows me to quickly turn on guiding instead of loading all the details.
Another great innovation.

if i open "edit on track" on start or end of track and try to jump from point to point there is a strange behavior, see screencast
In high zoomlevel it works better and it jump down from point 3 > 1 see second 36
in lower zoomlevel it jump down from point 6 > 1 see second 55,
after that is no effect on arrow click ::)

Hi ta-ka
i hope i do not misunderstand you
if you want to refrech the "map preview" in POI/tracklist, open "POI/track details" click "Style on map", change "use style of the folder" on/off or vise versa

@balloni: ah config :). Is it really usable? Because I do not remember I ever had any problems with this. And second side, it really isn't so simple to implement. Popup you have on screenshots has absolute priority and are drawn no in list of "layers", but as a separate items at absolute end. So it's little bit complicated to move their priority somewhere between ...

And if problem #100 is improved, then it's more coincidence then intent. I currently do not have a simple solution for this.

@0709: sorry, I missed you post by any accident. Anyway I cannot agree that one settings "should" overwrite second. It took me a while to perfectly understand what you want. And I agree that it make sense (your use case). On second side, as a user, I expect that turn off if idle will work as set, so after specific fime of second. And when I for example by accident turn on screen by gesture, I still see no reason, why "turn off if idle" should not work.

So in this case, it's similar as balloni's request I think. It depends ... and I do not feel that one or second option is correct.

Thats correct ;)
menion, i play with BETA as a tester and if i find anything i think it work not optimal i write it here and sometimes i suggest a possibility to improve it.
Its always your decision to improve it or not, and if no other user has the same opinion forget it ;)

Here's one bug that is present in latest betas (wasn't present in earlier versions).
Having a BIG icon library, Locus firstly is very slothful navigating through the whole icon collection, secondly it crashes after while of rolling through the collection. For the figure here's the problem library attached. It would be nice if Locus could handle it more quickly. Possibly it also degrades map rendering performance if waypoints are shown indexing one icon from big library?

Glad you like it and mainly that it works :).

Duplicate points in database is a problem during generating. We are currently with Peter working on some optimizations of this DB so we look also on this, thanks.

about mapCenter - don't understand. List of points should always use your current map center, so if you centered on previous point, this db will use your last center.

i dont think so ;)
for me DB should use my current position if i have satfix and if i have no satfix, my map position and not the last used from POI
Example:
i am in town and search for the next ATM to me.
Result in DB, nearest ATM 300m east my position.
I open it, damm it is on the other riverside, way to walk 2,5km :o
I reopen the DB, but with current mapcenter it is challenging to find the next best ATM to my position
