Title: [APP] - version 3.0.X+ (updated 29.6.2014)
Post by: Menion on May 29, 2014, 13:28:57
29.6.2014 - Locus 3.0.2.3

BETA version available over Google+ testing group

27.6.2014 - Locus 3.0.2.2

BETA version available over Google+ testing group

15.6.2014 - Locus 3.0.2.1

Because I'm just leaving on around 8 days and I'm in quite a hurry, I don't want to publish not well tested Beta version on Google Play. So here is Alpha version on own risk. Enjoy it. I'll testing it also during next days, so we should put heads together later ;)

Version should work fine. I'm now using new system for creating Free/Pro/Beta versions, so hope it will really work as Beta. (should be visible in menu > info). Use on your own risk! (and have Locus Pro 3.0.2 as backup).

3.6.2014 - Locus 3.0.1

"Quick" bug-fix version available on Google Play

29.5.2014 - Locus 3.0.0

new version available on Google Play. Enjoy it

Wow ! I was wondering whether to read the list of new features till the end or skip it and explore them ! :-)

I use Locus mainly for geocaching, that's why I spotted  "add: New side panel for Geocaching points ..." and "define two quick buttons for geocache screen" first.
I found the settings to define the buttons. However I cannot find the functions themselves ! Where are they ? How to invoke them ?

I have been looking for the Big Surprise, but it has eluded me so far.  :)

@Celda the buttons are added to the Bottom panel when viewing a cache in the points menu.

Will check out the new version later, but please correct the second sentence of the description:
long time no see, but don't worry. For a long six weeks, we hardly worked for a new, highly improved version of Locus.
"We hardly worked" means we didn´t work much.
And i guess that´s not what you meant ;-) The correct word order would be "we worked hard"

Nope ! :-( I have tried on another device and still don't see anything. Either I am so blind or doing something wrong or using a specific configuration on both devices in which the new function does not work.

@ CaptKaos2
Oh, now I (finally) see it, thanx ! I tried to define button 1 as "hint" and expected the button to appear in a second row of buttons or something like this. The "key" icon was there but I considered it to be so natural and thought that it had been there for ages already.

@Menion
Could you possibly add one more option for these optional buttons - "Guide on", please ? I know, this is just 2 buttons next to it but it requires one more precise touch, which is rather difficult while walking. When geocaching, "Guide on" is definitely  the most often used function.

And what about the other new function: "add: New side panel for Geocaching points ..." ? How to invoke this one ?

Hello
I have a quick look on new Locus and find that there's still the nonsense switch to max zoom bug(?) after some actions.. this time after applying a map overlay for raster map. In addition I'd like these improvements:
- remember individual last dir for particular entries (track import, track export, external map), or don't remember and start in each entry's default folder (/Locus/data/import, /Locus/export, custom maps folder etc...), because these mix now
- if I remember in older versions we could change recording profile during recording, but this is now only available before start recording, could this feature be given back? Continuous recording is still consistent across different profiles.
- more recording side panel tiles customizability, similar system like on dashboard (so that we could chose own layout, tiles size etc.)
- Locus mode context dynamic info bar (for example map in idle mode, GPS with GPS, Guiding with guiding etc.)
- turn on off GPS by long tapping GPS icon. I think this idea was already posted somewhere and long tapping direct action would break the buttons common behaviour scheme but especially on this button direct action would be effective(or find other 1-click way for switching GPS on off)

@Christian: thanks! I read you post in bus later. In the end, it was hard half of hour for Peter to edit link of post on small mobile device on very slow network connection (Edge) :).

@CaptKaos2: surprise is new store. We just don't know if our solution may withstand thousands of people, so we don't speak about it now, to reduce number of people in new Store in new version :).

@ohgood: thanks :)

@szebenyib: yes, dwarf team is funny. I hear about this from my wife quite often. Always when I sit too long on Locus code :)

@eldron: heh, funny, thanks.

@Čelda: I'm not sure about guiding, have to think about it.

@dvzd: remove map buttons - sorry, cannot agree, so no

@Bucky kid:
- last dirs: it make sense, I'll look at it
- rec profiles: you still may in settings > track rec > any profile > set active
- side panel customization: sorry, not planned. Side panel have to stay simple
- dynamic info bar: hmm, I have no idea where to place it. Even now, there is so low space on screen :)
- GPS toggle: agree it should be useful, anyway I cannot agree with long click solution on "GPS button". It break context menu of this button, so it's not possible.

Regarding the new shop system:
In the previous version I could easily check which vector maps on my device are up to date and which maps need an update from the shop. In the new layout I'm missing this function, Is it possible to add an "check for updates" function?

it's not now possible, but it's definitely planned. I agree that it's one of most important features, so don't worry. During June/July it will be there on 100, hmm rather 99 % :)

Hello menion,
during some biketours i noticed that the "track record state" in right side panel button switch from red to green dot, although recording is not stopped or paused :o
After long search i found the reason, the device is fixed to the handlebars of my bike and so shocks and shaking reach my device.
In my example video i hold the device in one hand and shock it to the other.
On sec. 21 and 45 you see the changing colour of the dot from red to green.
I am able to change back to red dot, if i click "stop"+ back, or "pause" or close screen and reopen it.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bzd0jsi0srr6arn/track-state.mp4

Sorry for asking again, my wish is furtermore, to recognize the state of trackrecording also in trackpanel, because trackpanel covers right side panel darkgray and so state is not clear visible
green/red <> start/stop button
gray/orange <> paused button

No need to make extra space (I mean the existing bar as on picture):
Would be useful if it could switch displayed content automatically depeding on Locus current state (offline, GPS locating only, GPS+recording, GPS+guiding, GPS+geocaching etc, choosable view context for each mode)

Hello menion,
my first experience with "dev_enable_auto_gc_offlinizer=1" 8)
First i opened (not stored) a few geocaches with GC4L, this geocaches include "backgroundphotos", "spoilerphotos", "photos insert in cachelisting" .
All this photos are stored in: locus/data/geocaching/...
and "photos in loggs" they are stored in locus/cache/images/...
After that i´v downloaded the cache.gpx from each listing and imported them to locus.
Next i close WIFI and set flightmode on my device.
If i open this geocaches, only the photos insert in cachelisting are recognized and displayed, all others not, although they are stored.

If you import a gpx file into a folder and choose to empty it, the yes button is not red, like when you delete something. It would be nicer in red and more consistent.

Thanks for the new version.
I'm glad that zooming isn't restricted on rastermaps any more. Helps with geocaching. The rest of the list of features and improvements will take some time to test it.
Since I own a device which has ANT+ on board I tested the new CHIRP feature. But couldn't get it working (attached screenshot). Probably a bug relating to my old Android 2.3.4. version? Using the ANT+ Plugin Demo App I had no problems finding a Chirp device.
Device is SE Xperia Mini (ST15i).

About images in logs - interesting, for me it works correctly. May you please send me GPX of cache which cause these problems? Thanks

@Bucky kid: partially understand. Agree that top panel should be usable for some "Current state" information. Anyway it's not a task on one hour and I don't think it's too important now

@szebenyib: red button - agree

@nlgel: tap on "menu" button and choose which sensor you want to use. Then it should work ;)

to solve it go to
menue/settings/language&Units/TTS settings and "Test Text-to-speech"
After you click this "test button" push your "volume hardware button" of your device and scale up your volume :) to hear the voice. Notice, modification only works as long as testtext is playing!

Robin I've just return from short bike trip and right because of your post, I've tested voice navigation and everything went well. No problem. I was even suprised how precise navigation generator is :).

So hard to say where is a problem. If you use "Navigation" in Locus, so you see on left side big icon, just tap on it and set volume of voice with bottom slidebar.

I've checked your files and I'm confused ... as usually :)
GC408EV - do not contain any images
GC2V2JC - contain one working image. After "GC offlinized" - it contain three images. All anyway works correctly even after I enabled Airplane mode.

It's always important to check what is and what isn't in GPX file

as usually two heads have minimum two considerations ;D
QuoteIt's always important to check what is and what isn't in GPX file
thats the different point,
in my idea/imagination it depend on GC-code of the geocache
Example:
i open the imported GC408EV.gpx, locus search in database for VE and recognice existig photos of this geocache :)
If you are able to built in this option, it will be an advantage too ;D

It is impossible to start voice navigation on the track in the middle of it.
I.E. if I stopped the navigation and want to start it again the "Nearest point' menu doesnt work. Every time I needed to edit the planned track and remove all its points before my location. The further navigation could only be done so.

It was a common thing in the previous version of Locus when I strongly deviated from the planned route   ::) Every time I was cutting out my route and restarting navigation again. In the last version the deviations are not the problem (yet). But the restarting of navigation and not working "Nearest point" IS the problem!
I am deleted exactly that route from the screen but here the recent planned route for voice guidance when I was needed to cutting out the passed part of the way twice. http://yadi.sk/d/js_AEws1SHrmz (http://yadi.sk/d/js_AEws1SHrmz)

Settings are not remembered on the import screen. Steps:
Go to points tab
Click on three dots of the folder then import
Select file
The checkboxes on the next screen are not remembered (e.g.: fill altitude, show or not, empty the folder)

@sersus: I have to play with it a little more outside. At home conditions, I'm unable to simulate your problem. It works for me always correctly.

@szebenyib: it's an intent.

"Fill altitude" - is little bit dangerous because it needs internet connection if you don't have HGT (elevation) files, or it may take some addtional time even if you have elevation files. And you don't need this everytime

"Empty folder" - is even more dangerous as you may loast some data

By the way I was wrong. The problems with deviations from the route are still the same but they are now less (I have the same crazy screenshot). And they are will be particularly evident only in real conditions.
I think you can take a long (80km+) distance route with many guidances, and being closer to the last third of it select "middle" navigation. Than try to tap "Nearest point". Those conditions you can combine with location a little to the side from the route.

Ahh, good old apk-file!! Thanks for that! PQ-Import from Groundspeak works very well with the right icons for mysteries.
Which other changes/ fixes are in new test version?

I'm trying new alpha version but there seems be no changelog so I don't find what new features or bug fixes are present since stable version.

Is the offline GeoNames search broken at present on the latest versions? It seems to have stopped working for me, where once it was fine.

Hi Menion,
I followed a GPX track of about 80km. Worked so far. However, the estimated time oscillated between 500 and 600 hours. While avarage speed was about 60km/h
No good maths :-)

edit
Another thing: traveling without data connection, searching for cities, towns and villages is a complete mess.
In particular as you cannot rely on bigger places being shown in a map (mapsforge problem I read somewhere else).
I recall you wanted to work on the POI DB stuff this summer.
So I hope you will include all Cities, Towns and Villages into your POI DBs. Perfect would be to include Streets, to. But that may become too big of a data set then.

@john: geonames sorry - http://help.locusmap.eu/responses/offline-search-geonames-dont-works-after-update-to-locus-pro-version-3012-i-use-android-422-und-412 - in next version it will be OK

@michael: I know, times are really incorrect. I found it also last days. Will improve it and I also hope that searching will be really useful. My wish is not just a street, but also a house numbers :). We'll see anyway probably in Q4/2014

Just installed the latest test version to see what´s new. I can start the app and read the changes, but it crashes when downloading the new library. It loads for a little while, so i am guessing that it actually crashes when trying to install the library.
Maybe my old android version is - once again - the reason for this problem?
What´s the new library for?
Edit: Tried again after rebooting the phone - same problem.
Do you need a crash report?

Installed version 27.6.14 on my Note 10.1 with Android 4.4.2
I had made a map-directory on the extsdcard before.
Installing Locus on mnt/sdcard and adding maps as described in the forum worked.

So I am able to use Locus on my 4.4.2 device. But there is no chance to delete, rename or move any mapfile. Dammed 4.4.2!
But at least I can still work with Locus.

But how to proceed if I want to add a new map or update a map?
Is the only way to remove the sdcard, putting into pc make all the actions and then put it again into Smartphone 4.4.2   :(

I found a bug on latest beta 3.2.2: Initiating a navigation from waypoint or temporary point screen without active GPS closes the navigation dialog early.

@gynta: thanks, fixed

@eldron: thanks, also should be fixed now.

@silber1: all apps suffer from this issue, not just Locus. Anyway in current Locus Beta version is one partial solution. You may select directory on external card that has read access for Locus only, to be root directory and move all data to this directory. All have to be move manually, so it's not yet perfect.

@bucky kid: ah you're right. It's because of a small change in "navigation" button in point screen (long click function), thanks fixed

@balloni: oki, so second try for #53 in next version. And thanks for ugly bug in "waypoints" - fixed.

@menion
what happens, when I load a new or an updated map from Locus Store into my 4.4.2 smartphone?
I think it will go into the internal memory.
Will Locus acces it from this place or must it tranfered to the extenal map-directory by hand and pc and putting sdcard out and in again?
Maybe this could done by a litte extra programm helping to make this transfer?

@silber1: Locus allows more than one directory with maps, on internal and external SD. I have four of them I think. For .map files and sqlbd.
Go to map management - there you find "add map" function with navigation

The "always screen on, when connected to external power" is great!

But I have a doubt, that the external power status is checked only when Locus is turned on, not constantly.
Because it sometime works, sometimes not.
The external power should be checked, when Locus is about to switch the screen off.

There are two possibilities to switch the display on when external power is connected:
One in Android, one in Locus.
You have to decide...

@menion

to the newest test version 3.0.2.5:
The search for the best Locus main dir is really bad.
I have a very fast Smartphone (rooted Android 4.4.4, quad core 2.2 GHz) with two sdcards. Locus test version decided at the first start that my external sdcard1 is the best, but there are only my maps; the main dir is sdcard0.
So the first start needs at least 5 minutes and it seemed that Locus moved the main dir to the sdcard1.

I had to restore my last config backup :-(

You should not define the card with the biggest storage to the main dir if a main dir already exists. At least you should ask what to do in this case.

My second old slow smartphone with only one sdcard needed at least 15 minutes to start the new test version (maps organizing and so on).

Hi tramp,

thanks for a report.

It's weird that Locus changed main dir without notice. You should see screen with choose of directories at locus start (when something change compare to previous app start). It wasn't there?

And 10/15 minutes - i was initializing of maps? It's just one time action that was probably done for a new folder.

And btw. it was fresh install of test version or update?

To 1:
I could of course choose between sdcard0 and sdcard1, but as this was an update Locus should not propose sdcard1 when the existing main directory already exists on sdcard0. The choose of sdcard1 (with more storage) on an Android 4.4.4 phone is not a useful  option :-(  Locus should warn here.

To 2.
This was an update too on my second phone and no change of map folders. At the next starts there was not this long delay.

To 3:
It was every time an upgrade from the latest test version.

I could attach a log file of the first start.

Oki, thanks, understand. So in the end, there is no problem.

I don't want to explain it precisely, but I had to change a little bit way how Locus search for root directory. And it should have influence during start so that's why you saw screen that "Something has change on filesystem".

One of problems in Android is that on your SD card points too much various symlinks that's it's not always easy to pick correct path. And in your case, new way of searching probably found different symlink.

Anyway topic closed now. Maybe it don't look like on first side, but we did with Peter a quite big changes in Locus, mainly around loading of external libraries, also some changes around checking license and security. So now we can finally start work on adding additional map providers. I'm also interested who will be first :)
