Title: [APP] - version 2.19.X+ (updated 17.3.2014)
Post by: Menion on February 14, 2014, 13:53:34
22.3.2014 - Locus 2.19.1.7

Please, if anyone has Android 4.4.x with SD card, where this SD card is not writtable, find some time and test how it works now with Locus. Simple test is to create empty dir on card only, another test is dir in internal memory only and in the end two directories at once. Locus should now handle all situations and in case of troubles, display new screen with detail description and hint what to do. Hope it will be clear. It's major problem and I do not have better solution than, if it occur, explain how to solve it.

changes compare to 2.19.1.5
- a lot of (10+) small or bigger fixes in new Point screen
- fixed problems with using SQLite maps places on read-only SD card
- highly improved start screen tab, that check problems with filesystem

- improved removing "mapItems". If you remove all items from one file, "mapItem" will be disabled
- improved placing of texts for distance/time rings on map
- improved icons for address/contact searching
- fixed some problems with geocaching waypoints (mainly using it's "Final" type)
- added support for export altitude also for KML waypoints
- fixed problem with import of some special extensions in GPX files
- last small improvements in automatic backup system
- fixed crashes after import and "tap" on hungarian caches
- picking waypoint in "Get location from map" screen, show only small confirm dialog now
- and some small unimportant UI improvements

known, not yet solved/decided issues
- map in Point overview when main map is rotating
- order of tabs in new Point screen - vote here (http://help.locusmap.eu/responses/new-screen-for-points-order-of-tabs)

download - direct link (http://goo.gl/OCBDoU)

17.3.2014 - Locus 2.19.1.5

changes compare to 2.19.1.4
- small redesign of Points screen for normal and also edit mode
- improve Google Places (gallery and added "open hours")
- improved screen with items/trackables in FieldNotes
- fixed problem with overlayed dashboard on main screen
- added support for using new Point screen also on track points/waypoints
- fixed problems with sorting geocache logs and using new "Friends" system
- hopefully fixed not perfectly working auto-backup
- added ability to define default path for images from camera by config file

11.3.2014 - Locus 2.19.1.4

changes compare to 2.19.1.3
- improvements in layout of point screen
- improved POI filter
- improved types of field notes during log of cache
- improved start checking for invalid root directories
- improved attachments tab in new Points screen
- removed context action bar when edit points
- fixed some problems in point filter screen
- fixed small problems with search for localized photo
- and solved some reported small issues

9.3.2014 - Locus 2.19.1.3

changes compare to 2.19.1.1
- a lot of improvements in points screen, mainly UI
- improved list of cache waypoints and list of cache logs
- created completely new Google Places system also integrated to new Point screen
- improved design of start screen and small fixes in checking existing directories
- made Garmin icons smaller to look better in picking dialog
- improved system of friends in geocaching
- fixed problem with crashing of field notes
- fixed generating of Offlinized HTML pages (to fix problem with rescaling of images in "Image" tab, you need to delete cached HTML page in data/geocaching directory. Fortunately all new, never offlinized caches will be automatically OK)
- fixed refresh of data manager after editing of point
- added ability to move from cache waypoint to cache screen

3.3.2014 - Locus 2.19.1.1

changes compare to 2.19.1

- new Point screen! (replace previous waypoint dialog, geoaching screen, edit point screen)
- udpated all garmin icons to new BaseCamp version
- fixed problems with not working Garmin (img) maps
- improved definition in AddQuickPoint feature
- added ability to prepare list of friends (in settings > geoaching) and mark logs by this

Hello menion,
thanks for new Version with many improvements :)
little problem that also exist in last PRO but not in testversion and so i hoped it is solved. :-[

After solving a mystery cache, i edit the coords and stored it, after that i "update the cache" to see the newest loggs.
At that moment an additional waypoint "ursprüngliche Koordinaten" is created,  not with the original coords but with the same corrected coords and so both icons are at the same position.

hmm weird, I'm not aware that I create any additional logs ... I think, this should be waypoint created by Geoaching4Locus (if you use this add-on to update caches). I'll check it, thanks.

About the sqliteDB map  importing error  in external memory(SD) - Android 4.4.2

Have you heard the sqlite map importing error in external SD memory ?
I've just known it when I moved the Google offline map to SD memory in Galaxy Note 3.

Chek it over, pls.

@balloni: interesting. I never knew about this feature of G4L add-on, but it works in a way, you wrote. Problem is, that once you change coordinates of any cache, original coordinates are lost. So question is, if create any waypoint or not. And if so, how to work with him if you update cache, change coordinates again etc... Anyway I'm sure, this is not something that was fixed in testing version and now isn't. You probably tested it on some cache, that has original coordinates and you updated these coordinates on web.

@gynta: I tried three devices and on all works "Quick switch info" correctly. May you do for me "Backup only settings" in Backup manager and send me this? There is probably incorrectly store any value.

And problem with map - very nice, thank you. Unfortunate side effect of new system I created for handling map view. Possitive effect is, that I may now very easy place map on screens I need, so like small overview on point screen. I expect there will be more such problems, but hope not too serious ...

@jusc: hmm, another one ... similar to this? http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3696.0

@beonun: I´m trying few SQLite maps (put then on card and use) and Locus has no problems with initialization and using. May you please check if your file is correctly loaded in Locus directory and file is not locked to read only?

About http://www.locusmap.eu/news-in-version-2-19-0/
QuoteAudio/Video attachments to points
Current ability to attach photos to points is now extended. Since new version, you may directly record audio notes, take and attach video and also one more possibility – attach any generic file you want to have "close" to your point of interest.
Keep in mind, that we still work on this feature and in next version, we will introduce improved design experience.
Really nice feature - but my first test outdoor runs in a "disaster".
First: it was MY FAULT

I wrote a long description text to a POI,
Swiched to tab "attachment"
Add 5 photos, 2 videos and 1 audiofile (well nice birdsong)
and then i pressed "back"....

PLEASE! ask, blame, notify me - but don't let me quit this dialog before i press hidden ;) "Save" button.

ah and EDIT: "Save" button do not exists now. All is saved after you leave screen of point. If this is good approach or not, will show time and testing ...

Thanks menion!

Have you also tested it in Android 4.4(Kitkat) above ?
I guess that the initialization error of the sqlite map in the external SD is related with Android 4.4

https://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-4.4.html
---------------
External storage access

You can now read and write app-specific files on secondary external storage media, such as when a device provides both emulated storage and an SD card. The new method getExternalFilesDirs() works the same as the existing getExternalFilesDir() method except it returns an array of File objects. Before reading or writing to any of the paths returned by this method, pass the File object to the new getStorageState() method to verify the storage is currently available.

Other methods for accessing your app-specific cache directory and OBB directory also now have corresponding versions that provide access to secondary storage devices: getExternalCacheDirs() and getObbDirs(), respectively.

The first entry in the returned File array is considered the device's primary external storage, which is the same as the File returned by existing methods such as getExternalFilesDir().

Note: Beginning with Android 4.4, the platform no longer requires that your app acquire the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE or READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE when you need to access only your app-specific regions of the external storage using the methods above. However, the permissions are required if you want to access the shareable regions of the external storage, provided by getExternalStoragePublicDirectory().

Post by: Menion on February 16, 2014, 11:02:55
@gynta: finally, problem with "Quick switch" solved, thank you!

@beonun: unfortunately I have only Nexus 7 4.4, but it do not have external card! Anyway it's weird because Locus already has WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission, so there should not be any problem. Is only one map causing troubles?

Hmm also, if there should be restircted access to SD Card due to lack of any permission, then Locus should not start at all, because of inability to work with database files etc. So really, please check your map file, if there is not any problem with read only access to this file. Maybe restart a device to be sure there is not any lock on this file ...

Post by: beonun on February 16, 2014, 15:50:14

Hmm...
Anyway, I have tested a few sqlitedb mapfiles  in various ways  and restarted the device twice.
But it.s the same.

The Google offline mapfile(sqlitedb) is normally initialized in 'Device Storage', but it's not  in 'SD memory card'.
And .tar mapfile  is normally read in SD memory card.
That's it!

Finally ... discussion is here http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3647.msg26187#msg26187 . Suggest to read mainly end if you don't want a whole story

Please correct in the German translation "Fortsetztung" to "Fortsetzung"
I'm getting sick reading it all time.

Don't know of course which is correct ...

EDIT
... after some time :)
I'm now really confused what apps may do and what not in latest A4.4+ ... http://beranger.org/2014/01/30/how-kitkat-4-4-killed-android-and-google-keeps-screwing-things/ . Is anyone with 4.4 experiencing any troubles with Locus accessing external SD card? I because of this, re-installed SGS2 to some alternative Omni ROM with 4.4 to check it, but it works without problems.
Here is also interesting topic about problem on Note 3 http://stackoverflow.com/a/21667960/836138 , where is suggested to fix problem with one hack in XML file ... interesting

Hi!

Just a minor inconvenience: when I updated pro from 2.18 to 2.19, the dash-board setting was lost. When I tried to use my dash-board, nothing happened. I had to select it once again. I think there was a similar bug in the previous (2.17 to 2.18) upgrade.
What is backed up in backup manager's dashboard section? Only the dashboards or also the selection?

I found a problem with tile loading of the custom online map.
It happens on Pro 2.19.0 using providers.xml when attribute in provider tag has a certain value,
for example, Google Weather Satellite in Locus addon Map Tweak.

I hoped, there will be no need for next bug-fix version. So by "forget on old "point screen"", I though that there will be only new Point screen. But not, sorry :) ... hope that in next 2.20.0 finally will, but till then you will for sure see it in next test version ;). And thank you for precise testing. I hope all major problems will be fixed now and also that problems with maps will be compensed by increased speed of offline maps mainly on big screens ...

I can see groups for points in data mamager latest version too. I however have one small wish, could the old Google zooming method be enabled per user setting, that means slide up = zoom in / slide down = zoom out. I somehow can't get used with the new style.

I think that Bucky Kid has a point. Now Locus behaves just opposite of Google Maps!

Now the upgrade 19.0 --> 19.1 went smoothly and even my dashboard survived it :)

Yes, I'm sure, but my Maps version is 7.0.2.
I checked the latest Munzee app (it uses Google Maps) and to my surprise slide down = zoom in!

I have always "memorized" up/down with an airplane's control. Pull the stick towards yourself, the nose goes up and the scenery zooms out. I guess I need another analogy :)

about config.cfg (http://support.locusmap.eu/hc/en-us/articles/200029201)

map_items_points_simplification_till_zoom

Locus set 10 as default - but described is 12

Quote# allow define zoom level for points simplification. So value 14 for example
# means, that simplification may occur in levels 1 - 14. (default: 12)
#  - disable simplification at all: 0
#  - till zoom value (1 - 22 'include'): X
map_items_points_simplification_till_zoom=10

about labels and frames (http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3711.0) in config.cfg

# allows to define colors for labels. Where:
#  'bg' - background, 'border' - thin line around label
#  'normal' - not selected item, 'highlight' - currently selected item
map_items_labels_color_text=#0A0A0A
map_items_labels_color_bg_normal=#DCF0F0F0
map_items_labels_color_border_normal=#DC0A0A0A
map_items_labels_color_bg_highlight=#DCF0F0F0
map_items_labels_color_border_highlight=#DC960A0A

Thats pretty close to that i imaging :) Is there a chance to have "transparency" in bg? Then the problem with the hidden junctions behind the labels will disappear.

Problem with missing 'FF' after saving is not a problem, because color with alpha 'FF' (255) is same as without this value, so there is no need for specifing alpha channel

I'm testing it now also on older 2.3.5 Android and it seems to work correctly. Think how to solve it ... some screenshots? Maybe better if you may share with me Locus/data/database directory?

If I downloaded free versions from forum site in the past there wasn't any problems with running as pro for limited time. Only free version from Google market has another behaviour and runs as free with ads and limited functionality.
If I bought Locus years ago I bought it from Androidpit and nowadays it isn't listet in Google market/ my apps. Can this be the difference for things go wrong?

Before upgrading I allways make sure that I have a backup (of the .apk) of my present version (the version that I am totally content with). I do that for every APP I use.

Oh, Oh, I cannot do that on 2.18 anymore.
Why? And is there a workaround?

Because: it is quite imposible for me to test everything in Locus and when during active use, I discover a problem, I could then easily revert to my previous, perfect version (without internet connection at hand or whatever).

An additional thought/wish from me:
"hint" is only visible if a hint exist, otherwise "hint" is invisible or grayed.
"waypoints", if no waypoint exist change it to "add waypoint"
So you can avoid needless clicks ;)

I am excited to the next testversion to play with it ;)

Edit 27 feb: I am working on it with PM help from Balloni. Maybe its my new MotoG but still, Locus is the only App I cannot do an APK backup for. Locus shows a lock symbol next to the icon in some backup applications.

Hmm... am I too stupid to see the new points screen? Looks just as always to me. Sorry if this is a silly question, I kind of missed a few versions and don't really know what has been going on. Maybe a secret config option?

Is there a new track screen as well? Or will there be one? Will it also unify display and editing in a single view as suggested here: https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/unify_track_information_and_track_editing_in_a_single_view

I applaud this change in general. It is a big step forward to a cleaner UI. No save buttons, no edit buttons, no mess.

@hank & balloni: interesting. I have no idea why this happen. Maybe something with "Move to SD"?

@joeloc: welcome back from another trip ;). You suggestion on GS is what started this change. Points screen is in preparation and will be in next test version. Track screen, in similar design as Point screen will come also, but later.

In first step I did screen with "No save button", because I also like it. But we did an user testing and 6 from 8 users wasn't sure if point was really saved. Just two though it's ok. So there will be probably save/cancel buttons, but "back" will work in same way as save. Only "cancel" really cancel editing. But it will need another testing .. anyway you'll see during next week.

You can never go really wrong if you follow the choices of our google overlords :-). Kitkat contact editing basically has Save and Cancel and Back saves as well, just as you suggested. It shows a little toast too when the contact is saved, that would take care of users not knowing.

edit
If I tick "route only, no navigation" checkmark when drawing a new route, I still get hundreds of unwanted waypoints added. Is this a bug? I really only want the track, not the waypoints.

edit
More bugs: After the map downloader finishes downloading the last tile, it hangs forever (no cpu usage). You have to abort the operation manually. The map will still work afterwards.

The german translation is also wrong here. When I click on "Abbrechen", I get a new dialog that gives me two choices:
"Abbrechen" and "Abbrechen"!?

I guess one means to really abort and the other means to abort the abort procedure? Thats a bit weirdo :).

Attached KML is a few hundred waypoints. Put it into mapItems. It works nicely when enabled as a mapItem in Locus. However, when I try to import this file (with the ... menu from the mapItem view), Locus will not import any waypoint at all but try to import a track instead.

Some KML parsing bug?

Thanks menion for the update, do you think full toolbars autohiding could be enabled per setting in config.cfg? Not so big issue but I think some users would more prefer keeping all unneeded toolbars hidden by default (double tapping to invoke right side toolbar to invoke track builder also slides up bottom toolbar which is not intended to use during track editing). So I think this behaviour is a bit more consistent with global autohide preference,

Edit: By the way

I tried this and double tapping doesn't seem to affect bottom toolbar at all (it only shows/hides right-side toolbar)

Hello,
there is a small bug in track export. It does not remember the location I set for gpx export properly. It remembers the path but not that it was the dropbox 'variant'.
Steps to reproduce:
1: export track as gpx to Dropbox
2: export it to runkeeper
3: export track as gpx -> it will offer as default to save to sdcard instead of dropbox. Once I select the location it remembers where it exactly in dropbox was, it just doesn't remember to use dropbox instead of sdcard.

I can reproduce that 100%, Locus hangs every time and never closes the window at the end. I mostly download google hybrid, but I dont think the source matters. Neither does the position. What might matter is that my maps are always >10000 tiles, so the download is stopped at one point and continued later. Maybe that causes the problem at the end? Maybe reproduce by stopping manually and continuing?

@joeloc: with KML import it is not an issue. In your file is on line 2492  Placemark where is a line! (somewhere in the middle of the ocean). If Locus import any file and there is just 1 track and X points, then all points are attached to this track and whole file is then imported as a single track - for me it works in same way also over "data > items".

@buckykid: I'm now thinking if such behavior - keepding panels visible at all costs in case you edit track or some other tasks, is really necessary. Maybe I should disable it at all and work with panels in same way, no matter what feature is currently running. I'll think about it

@szebenyib: thanks for precise description, problem fixed

@joeloc: I think this should be a problem with unfinished download. I'll take a while to test it, but I'll let you know, thanks

Hmm... I see. Is there any reason why you do this? The line/track doesn't have to do anything with the points/placemarks according to the kml, they are completely separate. Why would I want them "mangled together" when importing in Locus? I'd rather have them in a separate waypoint table so I can search for names etcpp.

But maybe there are too many files out there that use one track and separate points as if they should all belong to the track? But shouldnt they be inside the track specification then in the source file?

On a related note: It would be useful if I could enable/disable rendering of named waypoints that belong to a track in the tracks rendering options. Sometimes they just get in the way of everything.

edit
Has the pressure sensor code been looked at recently? If I enable "automatic" calibration of the pressure sensor, I get horribly wrong altitudes at first. When GPS is enabled, first I see the correct altitude (eg 500m). Then after a second, it jumps up to 680m and then very slowly (like 1 m per second) decreases down to the correct value (500m) again.

I found out that the slowly decreasing thing is due to the altitude filter. If I disable the altitude filter, it jumps back down the correct value immediately.

That doesnt change the fact that this bogus 200m up and down jump at startup destroys the first few points of a recorded track and pretty much makes all future climbing/sinking data wrong.

On my S3 I use track recording with pressure sensor automatic calibration based on srtm data at least once a week and checked now the recordings of the last weeks. All are exactly ok as they all start with 472m, the altitude where I start recording.
What phone do you use? In the past people reported problems on Galaxy Note 2(?).
A year ago or so I had several discussions about pressure sensor with Menion but at least since a half year this works really nice for me.

Hi,
I would like to introduce new testing version. Main change is new screen for points. Please don't kill me. I spend on this many days. Funny is that difference is not so huge and if I knew how much time it takes, I'll probably never do it :). But it's done, there is no way back, so it needs to be perfect now ;)

@joeloc: I'm unable to simulate problem with downloading. When map is compeletely downloaded, Locus always close downloading dialog and move to map manager together with refreshing list of maps. This do not happen to you?

And I also had no problems with pressure sensor anyway I'll check it, what may cause such huge jump in altitude values at start. Thanks

Uhm... why do you STILL have an EDIT menu? I thought the whole idea of this redesign was to get rid of that. It is so majorly pointless and majorly wrong :-(.

Now, there is not much difference to the old system at all. I can STILL see a name that I cannot edit without this extra menu. I can STILL see a Folder that I cannot edit without this extra menu. I can STILL see an address field that I cannot edit without this extra menu.

By forcing this extra menu on your users, you are not just adding two extra taps to jump through. You also force a different view of the very same data on your users. Stuff jumps around on screen, stuff is formatted differently, stuff looks different. It means users have to refocus and readjust.

You even put in extra work to make the point view NOT editable by ghosting the folder box. Please...

WHY... WHY... WHY? Whats the point of this extra EDIT menu? Whats the reason for its continued existence? Why can I not simply edit stuff in place in the one (and only!) point view? Why do you insist on making your UIs so unnecessarily complex? It is not helping Locus.

Sorry if that sounded a bit harsh... but that's my very first impression. Eat it or ignore it, I feel misunderstood :-).

New UI didn't show all atributes, it shows only first 10 and rest is non-visible (for ex. cache Styx).
after updating cache info via gc api, it doesn't show favourite points.
It's wierd to have Edit option in Listing tab.
It will be nice to have option to show/hide small map above cache name.

And if i add new WP and than click on it on map, there's no button to show the related cache.

@joeloc: it require longer response so I need a sleep-break on it. Shortly - I had it as you write. But list was then sooo long, there were many empty fields etc ... not so useful.

"Attachments on right side"
why you want them on right? Because this is what you expect? Start on left and go to right? Try to open cache window and you'll see why I placed it on left. Still think that it should be on right?

"Active map preview" - it's an issue, sorry. Map will be statis without ability to work with it.

You need two finger to move preview map. Anyway it's not so easy to move and not so useful.
Only map zooming might be useful to see around point.

"Attachments on right side"
why you want them on right? Because this is what you expect? Start on left and go to right? Try to open cache window and you'll see why I placed it on left. Still think that it should be on right?

Definitely, as every PC app starts with the leftmost tab, it is weird to see that you are on the right.
In my opinion it should be on the right (fully to the right) even in the cache screen. (I have not seen the layout before, it is coherent but still. And it feels like a bug that not the left one is active.)

my first impressions of new testversion:
1. what do you think i want to do if i click on an attachement?? :-[ i want open it :D "view/remove window" is unnecessary, my suggestion longclick for remove.
2.while add a new POI the + button for attachement is missing, after storing and reopen this POI the + button is available.
3. the arrangement of "attachement, listing, waypoints,loggs......" will be an endless discussion, please make it configurable in configfile ;)
4. if i select a single wp in wp-list of an geocache and want to delete it, the whole cache is deleted :o, i have to open the wp and than i can delete it.

QuoteAn additional thought/wish from me:
"hint" is only visible if a hint exist, otherwise "hint" is invisible or grayed.
what do you think about?

edit
5. if "hold center methode" is enabled and you have satfix the smal preview map display the actuell position and not the POI position.
The same behavior "hold center map" disabled and you select with satfix and centered map a POI from points folder

edit2
6. update cache doesn´t work
7. fieldnote/log your visit/working......../black screen/ locus stopped
8. Big Geocache image can not scaled down that it fit to the device screen, example GC3W7BG

@Raddino: I'm unable to simulate issue with attributes and also missing favorite points. Are you updating over G4L and also caches stored in folder or some temporary?

@gynta: thanks for the video. I'm aware of this problem with multi-line texts. Unfortunately I use one small library for these lists, so I'll rather wait till author fix it, then waste of time on it by myself.

@balloni: nice list, thanks

1) I really hate long-clicks. You never know this possibility is there or not, so I do not want to use it. Anyway your point is clear, so I'll try to improve it in any way

2) hmm you're right. So button "Add attachment" also in this "edit" mode? Maybe yes

3) I'll really rather create some poll to check what most users think

4) current behaviour is exactly same as in old screen. Anyway I rewrote whole list of waypoints. Functionality remain same, it just looks more clear now, I hope ...

4 and 1/2) hint will be disabled if not exists, but buttons will be still visible. I prefer to see all but disabled (so you know where button is and you also know that something  (hint) is missing).

5) nice, thanks, fixed

6) what means "don't work"? For me it works nice. After tap on "Update cacheL in bottom menu (Geoaching4Locus), cache screen udpate itself and immediately show changes. What happen to you?

7) thanks, I know, fixed

8) you mean if you use "Offlinizer", so the one big image of tree do not fit to screen? I think it's a correct. Because imagine you should have there one big image and one small, then you will zoom in, to see that small one. And smaller images are more common then big I think

Cache is stored in folder. Folder was created by locus pro. If i open cache styx, it didn't show all attributes ( see screenshot) (http://s17.postimg.org/7qm3dcsaz/hazamepa.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/7qm3dcsaz/)

Then if i update cache via addon, FP's are still invisible.

Like functionality in points or tracks list you have to select items and do things with 3-point-button. This is the way we normally expect in similar situations.

3. perfect, start a poll
for example: 1=Attachement, 2=Basic Info, 3=Listing, 4=Images, 5=Waypoints, 6=Logs, 7=Trackables
in configfile
default settings are          1/2/3/4/5/6/7
my modified settings are  2/3/5/4/6/7/1 8)

4 1/2. for me it is also a needless click on button if no additional information exist, similar in cachelisting "hint" is only visible if a hint exist.

6. ok, update cache works, but i have to close the cache and reopen it to see the updated loggs.

7. it is different to pro, in pro you are able to scale down till srolling only in one axis is necessary, see attached screencast (first test, second pro)

Artefacts when rendering closed ways
If a way (highway, aeroway etc) is a closed loop, and overlaps a tile boundary, spurious vertical and/or horizontal lines appear.

The first example is a road that is a loop, shown at two zooms; the second comes from a perimeter taxiway that is also a loop. This occurs in all themes.

I just checked a couple of caches with 2 and 3 additional wpts, no problems here.
The attached GPX file has some errors, some of the angle brackets are still html-encoded:

(1) This is an original GPX-file downloaded from geocaching.com.
(2) The additional waypoints for import into locus are not in the <groundspeak:long_description> although they are mentioned there in this listing as well. Waypoint information of that section is never imported to locus additional waypoints only to the long description ;).
(3) The GPX-file contains 3 <wpt> .... </wpt>  sections. The first contains the geocache information itself. the second and third the additional waypoint information of the parking area. I looks for me, that locus pro ignores the third <wpt>...</wpt> section for import.

Thanks menion for test version. There's an inconsistence with waypoint edit finalizing. In edit mode initial layout with Ok/Cancel button is offered but after making some changes to text field (copy/pasting controls replace the global edit controls and won't revert back after losing focus of this text field) the system is changed to upper left button for upper level
however it's not changed after making changes to non-text field (eg. changing icon)
I'm preferring the initial style always (Ok/Cancel)
P.s. I see that opening new design waypoint panel takes longer. It's not dramatic delay but may eventually suxx when working with many waypoints at same time.

Yes, I just noticed that the waypoints with invalid tags are inside the <groundspeak..> tags. And there are the real waypoints following.
This is how I have always done my waypoints for Locus without a problem.
I downloaded the GPX and got only one wpt?
I even added another cache into the GPX (three waypoints) and downloaded. Your cache 1 wpt, mine 3 wpts?

    <urlname>Parking</urlname>
    <sym>Parking Area</sym>
    <type>Waypoint|Parking Area</type>
  </wpt>

I changed the desc field, added 1 and 2 in front of Parking and now I can see both waypoints on the map.
So definitely a Locus bug! It must not conclude that these are the same points, when description is the same.
Coords and name are different.

thanks c.s.g. and stebu. You are correct. Locus test waypoints by <name> tag, which is waypoints code, but also by <desc> which is used as name. But in this case, it do not make sense. So I added condition that <desc> and also coordinates have to be same, to mark waypoint as duplicate and do not import it.

@gynta @john_percy
this is old know limitation of mapsforge library. Map is separated into so called meta-tiles and all elements are cut on the border of mentioned meta-tiles. The issue occurs with polygons that are closed and contains new "cut" lines. Unfortunately theme is applied also on these new lines and this is the reason of wrong rendering. Basically we cannot solve it, because we don't know what the cut line is and what the normal element line is.

@voldapet
A couple of thoughts:
- Where the polygon is closed and has a border and a solid fill, a workaround is to draw the border first (which will include the correct border and the undesired "cut lines"), then draw the fill, which will cover the cut lines. I can do that at theme level.
- Where the polygon is closed and has no fill (as with a highway, where we just want to draw the line of the path), is it possible to render it as if it was not closed?

I have to say that mapsforge has solution for this situation - parameter  "bbox-enlargement" which caused that metatiles are little bit bigger. Higher value of this parameter can solve issue with polygons but on the other side caused overlapping lines which is possible to see as "cross" on contour-lines in levels 12-13.  For this reason we use for generation little bit balanced value bbox-enlargement=10 (default value is 20).

Yep, that can help but border can disappear in case that two polygons share the some border or are too close.

I wanted to answer NO, but I realized that we can use parameter force-polygon-line="true" during generation. We use it for contour-lines, that are by definition closed, However we've never used it for highways (are not so often closed as ring), but it could work.

Want to notify about new testing version.

I had to rewrite whole main tab of new point screen, because my previous system was too complex. So expect, there should be some new problems on places, where it already worked fine.

I'm going to be slowly satisfied with new screen. Seems to be quite usable. There is still missing answer on joeloc post, I know, but expect no dramatical changes to this new screen now. Feedback is anyway still welcome. It's one of major screens of Locus, so it needs to be perfect for all

I report two issues on localized photo search.

1) At the description of "All directory", folder name should be /mnt/sdcard for internal SD memory. Please also check for external SD memory.

2) Tools button and selection menu appear in a wrong situation and Locus crashes by tapping one of menu item.
   How to reproduce:
Select All directory > Select a directory > Close search result by tapping (x) button at top-right corner

Menion
Just downloaded the Test version 2.19.1.3, mainly to look at the changes to the points screen. And may I say I am impressed. I like that on selecting a Cache you get all the relevant info in one scrollable screen without making a further selection. Also the Hint and Field Note/Note are at the top of the screen, to me is a better layout. I'll be going out tomorrow to give it a field test.
Keep up the good work

Possitive feedback, thank you :). I'll probably not be fast enough to publish new test version till tomorrow, so please be aware, that adding geocache waypoints is still buggy and will crash whole Locus. Balloni and others above, prepare for me nice lists of things to do, so next version will be probably in wednesday.

hmm first item in "Search for localized photo" has only incorrect label. It really search completely all possible places in your device.

Changes in "Search" in locus require a lot more than fixing this problem. But correct time comes when we will have fully working offline POI + offline address. Then will have search a much higher mean. I really hope it will be this year :)

Took the latest test version for a Geocache test run. It worked a treat, the button layout on caches is great for my thick fingers. Apart from the problems mentioned by others in the thread (which did not really bother me, as I updated Pro DB with what I wanted, and the Function UI is cosmetic), everything worked fine. Hopefully you will retain this UI for the next Pro release.
Wish the caching had been as good, to many DNF's [:)], but no software change is going to improve that

about "new screen for points"

I don't know why "basic" is so important?
For a user like me with small device, there is no distinct different from basic to edit view.
but to edit i have two more clicks.

The little preview of the poi icon is sweet - but that (and the top bar (to go back to map) waste my small screen space.

Why i can't tap the point on map and Locus brings me to a screen with allowing view info AND edit (the basics) ?
In current "basic" its possible (a little bit) to edit, so why not all?
I also will bring back some nice words from Stefan - here in forum :D
http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3698.msg27409#msg27409

Maybe I overlooking something.
So tell me :)

but also lets have a look and compare basic and edit:

here i am ;D
relating to my post #93
1. open attachement - good solution, solved
3. your poll - waiting inquisitively
4 1/2. hint - ok
6. update cache - no improvement, same behavior ???
7. scale photo - no improvement, same behavior ???

EDIT

solved :)

EDIT2:
open a cache it start by default in "Basic INFO". If i reopen it, it open in the last used view,
is that intentional

EDIT3:
i noticed a peripheral behavior while using the testversion.
If I open a cache via GC4L - Livemap, the import works as expected.
If I import a cache via GC4L - GCcode, locuspro automatically open to complete the import. ???

I'm testing version 2.19.1.4 and the edit buttons conflict is resolved (thanks). I found another nonstandard thing in edit point screen: pressing back button saves changes instead cancel changes. I think that back button has everywhere function as Esc on PC keyboard.
And problem concerning all dialogs in Locus not too easy to describe: upper toolbar with copy/cut/paste buttons is moved out of the screen after lomg pressing on text field in bottom part of screen and sliding out virtual keyboard (when virt keyboard slides up also the dialog). This causes clipboard operations unavailable.

@Menion,

- incorrectly working Automatic backup

This seems to be very difficult to you :-)

Can I write my observations?

1. In the backup manager I set the date of the next backup. Locus makes this backup perfect but not the following ones.
This dates remains unchanged on the display.
2. If I change then this (old) date to the next wanted date then Locus again makes only on backup.
3. So you should simply update this date of the next backup to the real next date (add the repeat days).
This has the advantage we all see this next day and of course Locus too :-)

I hope that this will be a solution.for this tiresome automatic backup problem.
I tried this over several days.

In previous versions of Locus I was able to open a field note, add some text and upload it as a log to GC.com. In this version it ignores the field note and creates a new log. Incidentally, creating a log from a field note within the app is very fiddly. Could it be simplified?

sorry for a two days without response here ... so now all at once :)

@gynta: with camera it's a problem, so as I wrote here http://help.locusmap.eu/responses/error-in-search-of-photo-positioned#comment-9381

@gynta: discussion about POI screen - I'll copy here part of our discussion from ICQ. If anyone has something to say to this topic, I'll gladly hear it. Because currently it's only gynta + joeloc against me :)

QuoteAs I wrote in some topic, my first version was also without this edit button. But whole screen was really looong, sometimes instead of scroll, I tap into field so keyboard popup. Also imagine you store some point from GPS, then there will be more fields then just "Altitude". Also in case of geocaches, there is a lot more fields. Another point is description - it should contain also html code, so how to decide if show rendered web page or it's source code?

I had in mind since start, to create a screen without edit as I wrote. But later I had to rewrite it to current state. And to be true - it's not so un-usuall. Many programs from Google use this. At least on my device, contacts or calendar works in same was - edit button.

@balloni: problem with refreshing is weird, and with scaling a photo also. I'll have to look on it more carefully and test it on more devices ...

@gynta: scrolling .. hmm, have to test it. And forget on store - I'm rewritting it from sratch so it will be completely new

@Bucky kid: cannot agree with back button. Try some Google apps like contacts, calendar etc. They all do not have "Save" button and by back, you immediately save it. I'll check problem with copy/paste top panel, thanks

@tramp: yes, I also do not understand why, but seems that I miss something in Android programming :) Thank for hints

@Leeds type: hmm thank you, I'll check it. About simplification: I don't know. If you have any idea how it should look like, please create new idea here help.locusmap.eu , so we should discuss about it on one place.

@ivolino: touch screen do not work? May you describe it little bit ... more? Also in latest test version from first post, img maps should work as expected or they aren't?

oki, so it is a problem of dashboard right? Then this problem will be fixed in next testing version.

About img maps - what means "not work". You see map in list, but when you select it, no map is visible? Or you do not see map in the list either? I have around 10 img maps at home for testing and two of them also do not work. They are in list, but after selection, map is not visible. If you have same problem, then I can't fix it now. It require more time and I do not want to invest more time to img now. Sorry

Yes it's possible that it worked. But, .. hehe now it will be funny :). Img maps has two versions. The new one contain quite a lot more information then the old one. I used library that was able to read only old img files. And because library that work with img files is openSource, so every change has to be back published, I check OruxMaps site and downloaded some quite old modified version in hope, it will read also new maps as OruxMaps do. And yes it reads, but it has also some problems with other img maps. So only what is needed, is to write to Orux, to publish his modifications (just part that read files) and place them over current old version I use ... and this is the hard part :)

@balloni: isn't this a problem in email client?

A little bug in the automatic backup:
My last value of days is shown as 1.0 the next look at this menu instead of 1.
So your program does not accept this value.

Just took the latest test version for a run. The problem mentioned by Ivolino about screen being unresponsive when using a dashboard has gone. Worked well with my dashboard all day.

thanks Tramp, it's problem from my testing. Fixed

Also thanks CaptKaos2 for confirmation.

Meanwhile I fixed, for my surprise, around 20 tiny issue on new Point screen with layout, editing, handling of some special types of points etc. Anyway because I plan to release new version probably in monday, you have last chance to post some things you want to finish/fix/improve etc. ;)

Hi!
I have experienced a force close with the development version:
Steps to reproduce:
1: open locus free (most recent version, dev. version from first post)
(2: download geocaches in the form of gpx from geocaching.com -> example can be found here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/77rcrnyti8wmohv/2014_budapest.gpx
3: import them) -> no need to do 2 and 3 as they are the same as what I already have in pro
4: try to open a geocache dialog -> FC

Logcat attached.

Hello,

I am using Locus Pro 2.19.0.
For creating gpx-files with geocaches for importing in Locus Pro I am using GSAK 8.4.1.24.

Today i have recognized that the "Berrechnet"-flag is no longer set, when the gpx-file contains geocaches with corrected coordinates. That is the little red point in the right corner on the top of the mystery icon in Locus Pro is missing and the "Berrechnet" checkbox is not set for these caches.

I am quite sure this is working in earlier  versions of Locus Pro.

Not sure, if  this is an export problem caused by the newest version of GSAK or if it is an import problem caused by the newest version of Locus Pro, I attached an gpx file with one cache as an example.

At zoom=14 or scale=1000m (don't know which is critical), the zoom value is not displayed in recent versions. See screenshots

Also zoom 10 behaves the same way. Pro 2.19.1, vector map of Turkey. When this behaviour occurs, you cannot get the zoom level displayed, it shows the short distance, then probably two times the longer distance and then back to the short.
Now I changed maps to online, and every zoom level was OK. Then switched back to Turkish map, and no problems there, either???

@szebenyib: problem with import of caches fixed. It was caused by "weird" GC code you use for Hungarian caches

@c.s.g.: I see there two issues. In you file are two marks that say that cache is computed and both not work.
1. issue is in Locus. Locus incorrectly handle types of waypoints in your file. I had to rewrite part of old code so now it will be fine. Anyway please rather test it. I also hope it won't affect work with waypoints at all :)

2. issue is in exported file. In GSAK GPX extension is directly wrote ( it's here http://www.gsak.net/xmlv1/6/gsak.xsd )
QuoteThe root elements defined by this schema are intended to be used as child elements of the "extensions" elements in the GPX schema

Which is exactly how it should work. So in waypoint should be

<wpt>
  ...
  <extensions>
    <gsak:wptExtension>
      ...
    </gsak:wptExtension>
  </extensions>
</wpt>

But "gsak:wptExtension" is directly in waypoint and not in <extensions> tag which is wrong. I may update Locus so this will work also, but I'll not do it, because it seems to be issue in GSAK export. If you are in touch with GSAK developer, please notify them about it.

@john_percy, stebu: zoom values are drawn in case, there is enough place for them. Did you tried to tap on this scale bar? It has four modes that cycle as you tap on it. Short without zoom, Short with zoom, Long without zoom, Long with zoom ;), so try Long one and it maybe helps.

@ivolino: as I see in code, I did major changes to handling IMG files at 3. February 2014, so version 2.19.0 already contain these changes. Versions before should be fine.

And new version will be in first post hope till one hour

@menion: thank you for the information. I will contact the gsak developers for issue 2. I hope I am able to explain issue 2, so it is clear for them.

If they fix issue  2, is it than necessary for you, to fix issue 1 as well? Or does the fix of issue 2 fixes issue 1 automatically?

Hello menion,

I have contacted the GSAK developer.
As the result there are to more attached gpx files:

(1) GC-Home 2014-03-23 06-08.gpx
Because of setting a checkbox within the export dialog of gsak the <gsak:wptExtension> are completly missing in this file.

(2) GC-Home 2014-03-23 06-12.gpx
Because of setting the correct version number within the export dialog of gsak the <gsak:wptExtension>-tags are now correctly embedded betweeen  <extensions> and </extensions>

The result checking Locus Pro 2.19.0:
(1) still does not set the "Berrechnet"-flag.
(2) works  as expected!!

So you can reverse the sourcecode changes you made for me in issue 1 in order to avoid any unwanted side effects  ;).

I've always had only three steps in the cycle. But the tapping on the scale bar has felt unresponsive, so it is possible that my device will not show Short with zoom.

But the problem was definitely different: at one zoom level I had the zoom level visible, then when I changed the zoom level to a particular level (11 I quess) the zoom level was not displayed, changed the zoom again and zoom level is there?

Edit:
Now I see the light. If I allow landscape screen, I can see the 4 cycles. On portrait mode the side menu also affects whether zoom level fits or not.
I have suggestions:
1) It's not necessary to display decimal km (10.0) 10 is fine, even 1 km
2) Make it so, that with  Long + zoom  the zoom level is always visible
3) Could you make the scale lengths so that the significant (first) digit is 1, 2, 5, 1, ...

@c.s.g.: perfect.

Did you tried first file in new test version? Because there was problem no. 1, which is fixed in this version and which helps on this file to correctly set "Found" flag.

@stebu: hmm yes, first and second steps should be sometimes same, because when there is no place for map scale, Locus just do not draw it.

I have some requests on improvements of map scale since begin, but I think it's fine now. To next version, I just reduce font size by one pixel and add smaller spaces to both sides between border and text. So hope it will help you. And in case there will not be enough space for a whole zoom value and percents, you will see only zoom without percent.

No, I have tested it only with the "offical" Locus Pro Version 2.19.0 available via Google Play

Hi!
I have tested the new version and it now loads the waypoints almost correctly. It loads the waypoint screen first with the map being visible (the top little part of the screen), then it blinks (screen goes black), then comes back in a scrolled down position so that the 'geocache' part is visible.

This blinking is rather annoying, can it be repaired somehow? I actually don't mind if the window is not scrolled down, but I don't really like blinking.

Other remarks:
first of all the screen is NICE!

it is awesome that I can get to the screen by 1 click instead of two!!

- the top right button is actually geocaching related. It would make more sense to change its icon to another, for example two letters: GC that way everyone would know that it is GC related stuff that lies behind

- waypoints tab: I just always wanted to tap the middle of the screen to add waypoints where it writes tap + to add any. Maybe because of the symbol. The screen is nice but gives the feeling that one should press the + in the bottom where it is written. Can a functionality like this be added here and in the attachments screen?

(- Hungarian geocaching.hu caches, the multi ones are not working 100%. Parts of the multi are missing, only the final part is shown. It has used to be always this way, this is not new. But it would be nice to see them on the map without having to write down the coos, and input them manually again. Having a checkbox to make one individually  visible would be really nice. That way one could show them if needed, and hide them to avoid map clutter) Shall I put this in the wishlist in new help site?)

@john_percy: hope it will be better in final version ;)

@ivolino: PM me email and if you want Free or Pro and I'll send you it

@szebenyib: black blink is my small nightmare. It was a lot worst. Surprise for me is that you see it a moment later after map, because usually it should appear before you firstly see a screen. But it has nothing to do with scroll of screen, so by disabling it won't fix it. I'll try of course to fix it because it's really annoying as you wrote.

top-right buttons - it's more complicated. These buttons are generated by Android and are placed automatically based on screen size and orientation. Try to rotate your device any you'll see that number of buttons in panel will be different. And I'm also unable to simply change three dots in corner.

about '+' button - it's on more screens then just these two. I was thinking about exactly same. It's not a problem to make it clickable, but there is more serious problem. When you click on it once, then after adding waypoint/atachment etc., this button won't be visible anymore. And because you previously added item by this button, you do not know that there exists another way. Hope you understand. So that's why I don't want to make them clickable.

- hungarian caches - I do not understand why multi-caches do not work on 100%. May you attach me a sample GPX with some more info? I'll gladly fix it if there is any problem.

If i create a new POI with taken photo or a Photopoi  and "Discard" it, the photo is stored and not deleted ???
i know function settings/Misc/Clear tem.Data ;)

If i open a Cache, the minimap is not visible, i do not know it is intended. For me it will be better/more logical, to start on top of the page ;)
and if i open a WP the WP-Icon in minimap disapeares after a short second.
