I definitely like the "More" over the "Modules" approach - it is the way non-IT-users understand Apps (I personally can live with both easily). To walk this way further I propose (like some others) to drop the "Data" layer of menues - this again is a pure technical category (as you store these infos in databases).
In your philosophy of "More", the "Tracks" and "POI" (the own ones, not the new DBs) are simply two items they want to deal with. What do you think ?

The way I could select own POIs, Tracks and elements with one button is OK for me. But sometimes I miss a button in POI details direct to corresponding category in POI-db or even better when I'm touching a POI sign in map screen I could select category or detail.
Btw. it could be very comfortable when details pop up without window between. All functions could concentrate in one window.

I couldnt agree more. A GPS program that doesnt have Points and Tracks in the very first(!) UI layer is mostly useless to non-geeks.

I also agree that data icon could go.
Whether the icon is round or rectangle I have no preference. That's menions pigeon!
I think the actual icon is very good for different types of data and a good reference to former periods. It fulfills all the functions.

After some testing I don't find any bugs, this looks to be very good version, but I would very appreciate if quick POI categories could have their own icon assigned so that they appear in the map with real sign instead of generic "i" , that would enable instantly dentify the icon meaning without having to open waypoint details first (especially useful when two or more categories are shown)

When post new field note (offline) keyboard is auto opened. On older devices keyboard sometimes is killed by system, because of low ram, and when is re-open it tooks few seconds. Maybe Locus will be not focus on text field when post field note?
Yes, you did - I am well aware of the icons in a POI definition.
My point was to give POIs and Tracks individual, separate function on the uppermost level (which implies they get an icon other than th eold "Data")

You don't like two separate screens for points and tracks (so you want just one that unite both) or you don't like word "Data" and it's icon (so you suggest to separate it into two buttons "Points" + icon and "Tracks" + icon? Then what about "Items" tab?
And offline POI's will be in Locus in future. This feature is here just for testing in testing versions, not in public version.

There is plenty of them on Google Play and I think, that these "keyboard kills" are quite weird

Is it possible, that map choice depends of the distance to the middle of " neighbour" maps to your choosen points? In this case Locus will always load smaller neigbour country maps before the right larger country map even you´re in the larger country, because the middle of the larger country is more far away?
Voice navigation does not work at all for me in latest Pro. I could only once select a voice with that Locus function but nothing happened. All further tries to select a voice simply do nothing. No selection window appears. Andro 4.1.2. with ivona voice installed. Google maps voice nav works nicely, as do all other voice apps (eg ebook readers).
With latest Locus I keep seeing an orange OVER_QUERY_LIMIT almost constantly. Why is that? What is "over query limit"? How can I avoid it? Your error messages could really be slightly more detailed... :)
regarding "data" pancake floppy disk madness. two things are important:
for beginners: give them icons that actually look like the functions they represent. points, tracks and layers. google (eg earth) call your "elements" function "layers", you should do the same and also use a similarly looking icon.
for pros: when i click the track icon, locus MUST take me back to exactly(!) where i was when i left the track list last time. same for points.
how you arrange it "internally", ie completely separate or within a tabbed view like now, does not matter much imho. I would like to swype left and right to change tracks though. And it would be GREAT if they looked pretty and were simply editable in place right away instead of going through another (pointless) edit function with another (confusing) view of the same data.

If you select any POI from POIs list, in particular geocaches, you have to do one more step from so called "window between" with button in the bottom left corner to see cache details window.
Last two days I was outdoor for a biwak in the forest and your app was the best tool for this trip. The only thing I could criticise was the consumption of battery. ;D But this is not a Locus topic.

Can you increase the double click timeout for the google zoom function?

Hi all, tried brouter today, fed tons of rd5 to the right directory, put profile from 0.9.4 brouter zip in place and started 2.16.1 beta.
Which the tells me that the brouter service cannot find motorcar-fast config (neither the others).
I did configure the motorcar, bicycle and foot configs in the service tab of brouter. but do not see any new files in the brouter config folder.
brouter folder resides on /storage/extSdCard, BTW.
Did anyone try brouter so far ?

1. If I use the map manager to delete a personal map that is not current one, map manager is closed and I am returned to map view with "Connection failed". I think the map manager should not be closed and the map should stay as it was since I deleted a non-current one. This should also apply to overlays (not sure if it works there currently). Only when a current map is being deleted, thete should be some error message in the map view I think :)
2. when I download geocaches via G4L, some of them have corrected coordinates and are properly marked with star on the icon. Then I export them to GPX, transfer to my brother's phone who uses Locus Free and imports the GPX file. The geocaches are moved to corrected coordinates but there is no indication of the coordinates being actually corrected (no star on the icon). Can this be fixed?

I think there is a lost function in both versions - center map?
Displaying Openstreetmap notes don't work (even in the current Pro PlayStore Version). I have read http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:openstreetbugs but even if I activate the function to display OSM Notes and wait for several minutes without moving the map, nothing is displayed. Sending of Notes seems to work (message about success and they added my provided info some days later).

About "Data" screen ... ok, agree that "data" and also an icon are not the best choice, mainly for a new users. But we're with Peter unable to find any better solution. Google Earth use word "Places", but is it really better then "Data"?
@brotbuexe: there are two variables that are used during this. Time between clicks and also an distance between clicks, so make sure you tap on as same place as possible. I'll try to improve it a little anyway
@gynta: I know you already know this limitations. Every android application store it's preferences in own private place (Locus Free and Pro are two different apps). And they cannot share it's preferences. Some of settings are anyway stored on card, like panels, wms maps, live tracking etc. so these are shared in both versions of Locus
@druki: I'm unable to simulate it, for me, OSM notes works fine. Are you checking it on place where are any notes already reported?
@Mek: do you have enabled on second device "Move to final waypoint" in settings? I'm testing it with latest version and it works fine. And disabling map even if not current fixed

I found reason for linking to dropbox finally yesterday and it's fixed now. About export to dropbox ... I'm working on it since morning. Because of this, I had to rewrite big part of export system, so it will need some more testing.

and btw. there is one secret improvement. You should "import" map files as well. It should work also for an maps stored on dropbox (locus will download them directly to Locus/maps directory and add to list of maps)

Okay. Don't moving the finger between the clicks that much do the trick. I'll try it on the bicycle and check if it's still works on the go.
It's also little bit improved in latest version so I suggest to check it there. There should be problems when you scroll a map with one finger fast (slide map, put finger up, grap map again etc.), so it's need to find good compromise between these two gestures

I don't know what i make wrong but in my Locus ,Brouter with the new 2.16.0.2 is not working corectly.

Voice nav still doesnt work in latest beta. Settings/Choose Voice simply does nothing. No window appears... no error message... nothing happens at all when i select this menu item. I am sure voice nav worked in older versions already.
Other voice apps work nicely for me. Only locus doesnt.

About OSM notes: I recently reported public toilet at about N 48°43.041' , E 09°06.342' I think this should be displayed as solved. Do you have any coordinates with note? I see nothing arround here.

Short confirmation, Brouter works with motorcar options too. But you have to install BRouter as an external app before you can use it with Locus. So my question is, if there is the possibility to combine the two apps while installation or install BRouter as a "co app" ?

brouter should be discussed at own topic. there is probably no more i can do now with this project and locus. it's not at google play right? so i cannot link on it. also installation is really complicated ... ah nice project but just for skilled user

Nope... no window to choose anything. I saw this window exactly once iirc and then never again, even re-installing locus didnt help.

I correct myself. Since I was apparently the only one with this problem, i reinstalled the OS and IvonaVoice and now it works more or less correctly.
I think the problem might have been related to languages, like running system and locus in german but only having english languages installed for ivona. Maybe if there is only one tts for the chosen locus nav language, locus should default to that automatically? I admit not knowing much about the android api for this.

thanks for the new version, there are some nice ideas inside.
But since this version (maybe also since the last version) locus is slow in showing vector maps for me.
sometimes it needs 20 or 30 seconds until the complet map is on the screen.
If i use instead online maps, there are much faster.

There appears to be something wrong with the calculation of font metrics for the outline on uppercase text for custom themes on vector maps. The positioning of the outline doesn't match the overlaid text for the road names on the attached images. This is not the case if there is no uppercase transform. Edit: On my phone (HTC Desire S) this depends entirely on the zoom level. Zoom 19 is particularly bad.

@Menion: On levels 9 to 13 Vector maps are still pretty slow. In particular as there seems to be NO caching for ALL of those levels.

that's correct, no caching if you have enabled "Auto loading". Anyway question wasn't if map are slow (we all know they're in certain levels), but question is whether they're slower then in previous version as @alex_dd wrote. I hope not
If I choice two files to import, import only first from selected. I try from SD card and Dropbox. The same problem.
weird, I've just checked it and seems to works correctly. Are you selecting same file types? Like only GPX files? This is one limitation for now - only same file types are allowed

Select more than one file is only possible after long klick on the filename, than you can select more files

Locus becomes unusable when I select my pictures folder (2000 jpgs) in photo search. I get a window saying "Loading..." and a very(!) slowly rising percentage bar. The Cancel button does NOT work.
After ten minutes or so at about 60%, Locus crashes. Restarting results in an ugly mess. Reboot is required.
Locus crash, if I select 1000 or more waypoints. If I select 500 or less, it is ok.
@ormoru: are you testing latest test version from first post for data import? because I just downloaded two PQ files and import both at once works fine. When you select them and confirm your choose, do you see on import dialog at title text "Files: 2"?. @michael: images are cached to Locus/cache/map/vector, so you can check it there. Anyway as I wrote many times, I'm not a fan of vector map caching and I'll not do any extra improvements in this way. Together with possibility to switch themes, autoload and share, caching is not a best approach mainly for maps generated offline ...

I try last version 2.16.0.4. I see "Files 2" in the title. Then Locus make analyze and then show dialog for import. In the title of this form I see title with first file name.

I saw the video and try ...7 version from dropbox. Still import only one file. But I see one diferent. In video at 00:59 second I see in title "files: 2". But in my Locus I see file name of the first selected file.
Everything is different :D I try your process from video. And found the problem.
Import more files from main menu is ok! Like you. But if I select import from submenu of specific category, Locus import only first file.

outofmem crash is what it was i guess and the problem happened on an galaxy note 2. but it will happen on anything really for anybody who has more than just a hand full of georeferenced pictures.
I'm afraid your strategy will never work for anything but minimalistic picture collections. How about
a) use android provided thumbnails.
b) only load actual graphics data when it has to be displayed.

Since there are relatively many new texts this time, could you please reflect the translations to the next test version? It is better to check them on the device before official release.

This is probably not what you want to hear :-), but a search function for georeferenced pictures (including manual user intervention and super major delays) is a bit too old-fashioned anyway. That's how things were done ten years ago imho.
Nowadays, with a modern design, I would simply expect to enable the "local photo layer" with a single tap (just as a "panoramio layer" or a "flickr layer"). Everything else should be done by Locus behind the scenes... in the background... quietly... unobtrusively... automatically... without bothering me... without blocking the rest of the user interface even for a split second... without forcing me to go through "database-ish" search modules... without forcing me to watch "working..." dialogs for ages.
Of course this means more work on the programmer side. You'd have to play with the media scanner, keep a database with all positions up-to-date somewhere quietly in the background, rescan only changed files, update the map screen automatically when new pictures show up, etc. But in the long run, man hours spent on an uptodate software design will prove more useful than trying to speed up a somewhat old-fashioned search function that will always remain cumbersome to use.
Wouldnt it be great if a new picture simply showed up in Locus as soon as I take it?
Parking in Locus POI database
Some maps get very confused with unhelpful icons for private parking appearing in many places. The standard Osmarender includes rules that say there must be either no access key, or access must be yes or public for the parking icon to show - see https://trac.openstreetmap.org/changeset/6939/subversion
a) The poi database for Locus ought really to follow that, IMHO
b) Locus maps ought really to follow that, too. Either implemented in the maps or the themes.

I tried it with my V-Scale Theme (http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3187.0). It looks quite diffrent. Maybe to less one way symbols. Because I can´t post a screenshot at this moment, can you please try it for your own?
The screenshots in my post above were with Locus internal theme and Locus England map.
The ones below are from jusc's V-Scale Theme. Note the road name and one way symbol starting in the main road, but that there are far fewer one way symbols. This is due to the absence of repeat="true" in the line:

The downside is that there is only one arrow for each section of the road, and it can be obscured (see Salisbury Street and Lower Hester Street in the first image below).

I was mistaken when I said that it was connected with the uppercase transform. On my phone (HTC Desire S), the mismatch between the text and the outline depends critically on the zoom level, with zoom 19 being particularly bad.
Navigation / out of track notification is messed up:
1) Out of track notification = off vs. Settings of sound= disable:

My current workaround is
- displace the streetnames with dx="16" or so

When I upload field notes, they appear in wrong order on gc.com website - the first one is always wrong (the rest is OK). Looks like the date/time of the first one is shifted two hours back.

The point is in great-britain.poi.db which I downloaded from this forum some betas ago from http://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=3267.0 - it's dated 31-07-2013 and is 130,612kb in size. As to how Locus produces two single quotes, I was hoping you'd tell me! ;D
I'm using the points of interest testing feature. I have a Great Britain map that I renamed to great-britain.osm.map to match the poi database file, as instructed previously, and one popup appears when the poi is centred on the screen, and the other when it is tapped.

If the problem is only a proper refresh, setting orientation to horizontal and then back to vertical right away should do the trick, even on 4.3. But thats all I know... sorry. Too much biking, not enough programming... :)

Well yes... its a hack. But a nice one... especially if you want your system in english but really cant stand the not-so-pretty "locusian english" :-). Anyway... ES File Explorer for example can still change languages on very latest Android without problem. Its not open source, but I am sure they d tell you the proper hack. They were quite responsive and cool on other issues: contact (at) estrongs.com
I'll keep this in mind and immediately I find any working hack, I'll implement it ;)
Anyway probably last testing version is in first post. I fixed, hope that everything serious I found. Because my head has a lot of holes, remind me if you find any problem you want to fix. There will be probably "fix version" within a week after release (in case of some serious problems), but ...

I've no reason for this, sorry. I have no clear reports about any problem in latest test version. New testing versions are for testing and have no sense to provide any older. If there is any problem, it need to be fixed. If you want to use stable version, use latest version from Google Play

Version 2.16.0.11, as soon as I make first movement through the map, the viewport center becomes uncontrollably switching between several positions. There's no other way to stop it that shut down application. I wonder nobody else reported this fatal misbehaviour.

Still seems a bit slowish :-). Anyway... watching cpu load while moving an online-map with a few 5000point-each-tracks on it reveals that only 1-2 (out of 4) cores are used. I hardly reach 30% overall system load. There is still a lot of potential, even without finally learning OpenGL... :)
using more then one CPU on drawing is not possible, only one thread may draw map and it's features. Anyway I was working on it few more days, so it should be even a little better now, in new 2.17.0 version
