Nope, too large for me (5" ). I got an Experia V (4.3" ) to replace my Defy+ (3.7" ). This is the limit for my thumb radius while holding and using a mobile in one hand (and I mean tight holding, not balancing on fingertips due to the size). And I have not the smallest hands ;-)
But the S4 Avtive is a powetful phone and I think a lot of geocachers will like it.

I´m thinking about it. It depends of a. using the pressure sensor even if the display is off. So if some users tested this funktion with a Galaxy S4 please let me know.
b. I´m waiting for the price at  launch in Germany.

BtW. In the moment I use mostly the S2 outdoor. In my eyes the brilliant display is even better to read in sunshine as p. e. that from the Note 2. But unfortunately the S2  doesn´t own a pressure sensor.

Strange that I recently got an idealo mail with price below 500 EUR. But now it's slightly above 500 EUR.

It seems, that this phone is unfortunately not  what I want.
If you are able to understand German, read the review at http://www.amazon.de/product-reviews/B0 ... ewpoints=1 (http://www.amazon.de/product-reviews/B00DELEATO/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1) and the comments at http://www.amazon.de/review/RULJ0BZ599L ... hisHelpful (http://www.amazon.de/review/RULJ0BZ599LUB/ref=cm_cr_pr_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00DELEATO&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=#wasThisHelpful)
1. Unprotected headphone input!!!! Samsung recommends the unit not to use in the rain!!
2. no FM Radio

there is no link that proofs that not use it in rain is a official statement.

http://www.samsunggalaxys4manuals.com/2 ... guide.html (http://www.samsunggalaxys4manuals.com/2013/06/samsung-galaxy-s4-active-manual-userguide.html) it is clear that the phone is water proof (1m for 30 minutes). No need for headphone cover or for special headphones. It might be possible that headphones does not work and create a shortcut between the contacts if getting wet.

It would be one of my favorites for getting a new phone I can use as daily driver and on bicycle without needing a special case.

It is not my concern to prevent others from buying the S4 Active.

At first we have to define OUTDOOR

For me a TOP OUTDOOR Smartphone should be:

Dust and water protected.
Easy to read in sunlight.
Operated with gloves.
shock restisting

A TOP OUTDOOR Smartphone should have:

Very good GPS receiver ( again in German http://www.wz-newsline.de/home/multimed ... -1.1313927 (http://www.wz-newsline.de/home/multimedia/specials/teststrecke-der-technik-ratgeber/samsung-galaxy-s4-im-test-innen-hui-aussen-pfui-1.1313927))  S4 Active is based on S4 (normal)

FM Radio: For me in particular "outdoor", the FM radio is very important to get news, because you don´t have Wifi or GSM "outdoor" all the time. (in German http://www.usp-forum.de/artikel-galaxy- ... radio.html (http://www.usp-forum.de/artikel-galaxy-s4/2113-samsung-galaxy-s4-hersteller-begr-ndet-verzicht-ukw-radio.html)).

Pressure sensor for altitude tracking. (With Note 2 Samsung limited the usability of the pressure sensor "to only if display is ON", because of battery saving. I dont know how it works with the S4 Active, but I fear .....)
ANT+ (optional)
good battery (life)

I know you shouldn´t trust all. But until now the S4 Active becomes in my eyes more and more only an expensive, maybe water proofed, gimmick.
It can be usable for craftsmen, but for cycling, hiking, moutain biking und trekking I dont´t see any real advantages.
But if sombody has bought it, he may convive me in the future  :)

Does the pressure sensor work reliably when screen is off?

hmm I'm also interested in this Matthias. If Samsung changed this weirdness or not ... you may simply try it by track recording with enabled pressure sensor and turned screen of. Altitude chart should be fluent as expected but on most Samsung devices, pressure is refreshed just once per around five minutes, so chart has always just huge altitude change every 5 mins ...

You can make another easy test. load a pressure sensor app and remember the altitude.
Go a bit up and downstairs and watch the baro. Is it updating permanently?
If yes, close display and go up- or downstairs. Awake the display. If you can see for one second the "old" altitude and  only now the updating altitude/pressure you know the closed display prevents the pressure sensor form update in the background.

And... could you test it with Locus outdoor? Do display and pressure sensor work as wanted?
I´m a bit curious.  ;D
