Title: Source of TTS text? - wrong [GER] TTS
Post by: gynta on July 03, 2013, 14:07:31
I seem to know TTS is "speaking" a text
but (in german) some navigations instructions are executed with wrong words
I think the instruction should be something like "after.." or "and then..."
but i hear "older than..."(in german) - and that's wrong.

In either case
computed and used with MapQuest
computed and used with CloudemMade

OS language german
Locus language german
TTS language german

Where are the source for TTS messages stored?

Hello, gynta.

I believe that the navigation voice "Älter wie" comes from the text "Then" in strings.xml.
If you change the translation to "Nach", you will get what you expect.

But there is a problem.  The text "Then" is also used at [Maps] -> [Online] -> [Download] -> area select -> [Download] -> 'OVERWRITE' -> 'Then X days'.
So, the text "Then" in Map downloading dialogue will be changed too.

The word "Nach" may be used for both as a navigation voice and as a text in dialogue giving a natural meaning like in English. However for another language, it may not. For example in Japanese, it gives a strange meaning.

So, I would like to suggest to developer:
- to use the word "then" only for navigation voice.
- to create a new word "overwrite_older_than" for map download.

I'm checking usage of word "Then" from translation and it's used for only one purpose, and it's for navigation!

in map it's a separate translation

<string name="delete_tiles_older_then">Delete tiles older then</string>

ah how did you know that? :) You're right. Text is included directly in xml files so I incorrectly search for usage and miss this file. Hmm, this gives higher priority to what I wrote here at bottom viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3217#p21921 (http://forum.locusmap.eu/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3217#p21921)

Quote from: "menion"...and it's for navigation!
in map it's a separate translation
Sorry i'm little bit confused now (again)  :)
It's not the "map screen"
it's the the "download map tiles screen"

I'm sure Locus use this "then" twice
[attachment=0:2u5xl78x]then.png[/attachment:2u5xl78x] Into the download tiles screen - AND ALSO for TTS Navi

Anyway - if Locus would use it for TTS - fine
but just give us another one for the download online tiles screen - please.

I still here the wrong text.
