What's the topic of the month?
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.13.X+
Post by: Menion on June 27, 2013, 20:55:40
I'm with Peter still work on some offline database of POI, so it takes quite a lot of time. In rest I still would like to invest time to navigation. You're big fan on this topic and it's a shame, not to use you, any many others, on some field testing. In previous and this versions are some improvements in GUI, but there are still some problems in algorithms, so I want to check this. Topic on July ...

Post by: stebu on June 28, 2013, 00:55:37
Seems to work on my ZTE Blade smoothly (I really got to get a new device!)
One thing I noticed or didn't find is the missing "quick hide POI" function. I had it on my top menu, now I can't find it anywhere?
With a lot of geocaches, munzees, waymarks etc it was a very useful function!

you mean function that is now under long click on "data" icon?

Not really, it is useful, but I want hide and display individual categories.
Could you consider adding this to the category edit functions (Points|Import|Export|Edit|Delete|(UN)HIDE)

Hi menion,
Can you please check the background / bgcolour of the detail page of the tracks?

And ... whats the changes in 2.13.x ?

Thanx,
Christian

@christian: do you have a screenshot with a problem? Thanks. And changes in 2.13.x? I do not even started to work on this version :)

Hi Menion,
first of all thanks for another great version of your app. I especially like the faster loading speed of vector maps (maybe i will at some point start using them now instead of tile maps...) and the new data screen.
Also the "sort caches by favorite points" sounded great, but when i tried it it didn´t work. The order of the caches was changed, but when i checked them they were not in order of favourite points.
It would also be handy to see the favourite points in the POI List.

Post by: Menion on June 28, 2013, 21:54:17
@eldron: problem with "favorites" is simple. You need to get "favorites" values into Locus. Usually best way is to update caches by Geocaching4Locus or import from Gsak or GeoGet database (if they contain favorites values), because Pocket Query do not have these informations

@christian: eh .. didn't you updated your ROM? Or are you using any special ROM in your device? There is no reason for this, because as I remember, I do not changed anything in this screen. Is this happening only in this tracks screen or also in any other?
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.13.X+
Post by: eldron on June 28, 2013, 22:43:34
Hi Menion,
The Caches where imported with Geocaching 4 Locus and some of them contain values for "favoriten" (german version) in the information tab, with a blue ribbon and a number next to it. Isn´t that the value that should be used when sorting by favorite points?
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.13.X+
Post by: Menion on June 28, 2013, 22:49:37
hm in this case yes, it's correct value. There is one small issue that favorites are sorted from 0 to max, so caches with most favorite points are in the end. Just invert sorting or scroll down. Maybe this helps ... I'll fit it to next version

Stock rom, no root.
Problem is gone after reboot and re-update automatically.
Thanx for your fast reply.

New version is quick :) nice!

Post by: eldron on June 28, 2013, 23:13:49
@menion
i tried to find a system to the way locus sorts my caches when choosing "favorites", but i can´t find any - first cache in list has 2 favorite points, second has 1, third has none, than there are a few more with none, than one with 14 and then back to none, followed by one with five and so on.
So there is a seemingly random up and down and i can´t find any system in it.

Zdravím, nějak mi po instalaci této verze přestalo fungovat navigování. Přesněji řečeno, zvolím cíl, způsob navigace ( rychle, krátká, ....) objeví se ikona /čekání../ a tím to končí, stále jenom : čekání , nedojde k výpočtu trasy. Připojení k internetu a aktivní GPS samozřejmě mám. Před aktualizací na tuto verzi ( 2.13.0 ) to fungovalo normálně.

@christian: so solved? Hmm it's second or maybe third weird error this month that is solved simply by restart .. :/

@eldron: I was discuss here one issue https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topic ... y_12374315 (https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/7xyf8dabymuom#reply_12374315) and on screenshot you may see "favorite" values. Do you see them also in a list?

@sponn: promiň, zítra bude opravný update kde to bude jak se patří opraveno
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.13.X+
Post by: eldron on June 29, 2013, 19:51:40
@menion
no, i don´t see those favorites values in the data screen, only in the information tab of the cache. Any idea why that would be?
I just tried the "refresh cashes" (Caches aktualisieren) but that didn´t help.
Oh and what happened to the outdoor active map? I was hoping that it would be fixed with this update but locus still won´t load the tiles, it just says "doesn´t exist".
I also had some crashes for the first time since i use locus (over one year now), when scrolling around a vector map on low zoom levels (Level 7).
Locus just froze and I had to shut it down via the task manager. i´d send u a crash report but i don´t know where to find it.

Edit: I have downloaded some new caches and they show the favorites value now and the sorting function also works.
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.13.X+
Post by: stebu on June 30, 2013, 01:35:48
Yesterday I was geocaching and tried to add point to the map. When I tried to manually enter the coordinates, I was prompted to enter them in a strange grid. When I clicked on the grid's name a list was shown, but I couldn't scroll the list (the WGS is the first entry and was not visible).
I tried to change the settings from WGS to something else and back, but this didn't help. Finally I flipped my phone while the grid list was displayed and in horizontal position I was able to scroll up the list to the WGS choices.
This was with Pro 2.13.0 and ZTE Blade A2.2.

Sometimes, with the previous Locus version (2.11?) I had similar problems: I couldn't scroll points category list when I was downloading GPX file and wanted to change the target. This (category) problem has not occurred in 2.13.0, but I have used it only twice.

@Menion:
I wanted to investigate on an issue regarding strange navigation instructions (at least) in German. But I can't find out how navigation simulation on sofa (i.e. w/o running GPS) works. I don't hear the voice in simulation. Yesterday in reality I could hear it.
Is it expected that the simulation with spoken instructions still works? For both navigation and my favourite topics Notify when switching to another point/Notify when too far away from track ?

As July is your "month of navigation" I'd like to remind you on a topic (and referenced topics there) which gives a lot of ideas how to improve usability of navigation.

I have fixed the provider.xml now. I didn´t realise that the outdooractive map came from the maptweak plugin and not from locus itself.
Thanks for pointing out the other threads.

I'm coming, I'm coming ... I was just improving live tracking and merging compass & gps ;)

How to use it ... when you set this parameter to 10 m/s, then if you have turned GPS off!, you may simply move with map center and it should work as if you move by GPS with 36kmph. This is useful mainly for a checking voice orders that needs some speed, so simple moving of map center (when GPS is off) is not enough.

Simple description. So I' tried to make video from your instructions.
Check it please: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jpk35u9d7b80i ... -15-29.mp4 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/jpk35u9d7b80i39/sc_2013-07-01_02-15-29.mp4)
My expections would be that the map under the center cross would move somehow but it stands still.
Anyway, in which direction should it move?
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.13.X+
Post by: Menion on July 01, 2013, 17:43:07
ah understand :) ... it works in little bit different way

1. sit on sofa, take a beer and relax
2. check you have really set this parameter to other value then 0
3. check if you have disabled GPS in Locus
4. plan any track by navigate to, or use any guiding (check if you have enabled notification or some voice)
5. final, imagine that your GPS location is center red cross! So just move with map and your center red cross (that will also move above map) will simulate your current location. In this way, it normally work even without special settings. But settings in config.cfg file cause, that you center cross will also have a speed, so locus should compute some voice orders based on your speed

better? if not, I should try to create also some video on PC

Actually this is how I originally did it.

I'm no sure if this has been mentioned before? But when I move a POI from one category to another, the source POI list still shows the moved POI. If I try to view it, Locus crashes!
If I reload the source POI list, the moved POI is gone and everything is fine. So only a minor hick-up :)

edit
I just downloaded 2.13.1. I cannot hide the right panel? I normally have a setting to hide it after 10s inactivity.
I checked and the setting was still the same, but the panel didn't go away.
Then I changed the setting to hide always, but the panel just keeps sitting there????

Ah, this explains why it worked for gynta but not for me and jusc.
Would you mind to add it in general?
Should it work also for the other track based TTS features (Notify when too far away from track, Notify when switching to another point)? (Yes, please!)

Hi;) I do not know if this is only seeming, but in latest version(s) I feel the map manager dialog it takes longer to open and render than before. I notice there's even some animation effect on expand. If that would be possible make all UI effects turnable off, preferably somewhere in general prefs, so that Locus behaves as much smooth as possible. Alternately I would like to have the quick map picker available on maps manager long press. Would that be possible?

Sorry, to kick in again. Gynta and I don't understand what the speed setting really does. Map shifts and voice commands only if map is moved by hand - independent of the speed setting, it works this way with speed 0.0 exactly as with speed 10.0.
Could you enlighten us?
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.13.X+
Post by: Menion on July 06, 2013, 11:21:51
so defined speed in configuration file is useful for places where is needed a speed to compute some values. It should be voice commands (yes, they should be hear in test version also with value 0, because for navigation purpose I change 0 to some minimal value 1m/s). Anyway if you set value to 20 (so around 70km/h), you should hear commands as you should probably hear in card, I mean in similar distances. This value is also useful for some time to target checks etc...

Anyway I changed it's behaviour so voice commands with this speed will work also in public version (not just test) but only in case, this parameter will not be a "0".

To animations ... they should be disabled in your device for all apps at once. I personally like some simple animations and till now, no body complain ;). And if Bucky Kid think it's slower now, it should be because you have more maps, more wms services? Anyway no dramatical change was done in map manager that should slow down loading of this screen

That's right ;) It's not dramatic slow down. But for quick switching between maps, could you please add the Quick map selector panel to the long press menu for Full map selector icon in the upper right  corner? For some reason it opens about 1s faster and shows all what I need. I.e. yet more I'd like the upper right corner icon to show quick map selector on short press and additionally offers full map selector on long press or in long press menu (because in most cases quick map selector is fully satisfying)

uff finally to bed. Bucky, I was fighting till now with some bugs in android, but seems to successfully completed task. So in next version will be loading and mainly handling of map screen and also data screen much faster. It will have no effect on loading of points/tracks/maps etc. just user-experience from work with these screens should be much better now ... and good morning to all :)

Hi Menion,
had time using Locus car navigation and Guiding (when too far away from track) today and want to report few problems.
In general Locus was - as always - a loyal and faithful helper!

Navigation issues:
- 1 crash after about 2 hours (suddenly I saw the homescreen instead of Locus), sorry no crash log available. I know this doesn't help but I think I should let you know
- Navigation screen: I switched off display (I didn't switch off navigation of course) in order to charge battery because it was low. Later I switched it on again but the display wasn't updated (the navigation element showed an old turn, the distance to this turn wasn't updated, the car symbol wasn't at the center of the screen but almost outside the screen). I think the whole screen needs an immediate refresh after switch on display. I think there was no such problem in Locus maybe a year ago.

Guiding issues:
- I used a track in reverse direction. The info graph is displayed from original start to end from left to right, so far ok. But the marker for the current position is running also from left to right => wrong, either graph or marker need to run from right to left.
- A bad german sentence in the "clock" guiding, I'll discuss with Gynta first in the German translation thread, maybe no problem in English.
In general a nice feature I don't want to miss!
*edit*: After discussion with Gynta it seems that there's no separate sentence for this "x meters on y hours". The german text currently is "x Meter von y Stunden" but it should be e.g. "x Meter Richtung y Uhr".

Crash when using Locus 2.13.1.1 or 2.13.1.2 in VM: When I select a vector map there's no reaction for a long time and later Android asks if I want to end Locus.
This problem does not occur with Locus Pro 2.13.1, it loads the same vector map in my VM environment successfully.

This seems to be the relevant logcat snippet:

@gynta: don't worry about world map, it's here just for testing. installation will be automatic. Proximity sensor: it's a first version ;). Anyway there is also useful method, so Locus may now turn on display when you navigate or guide etc. I'm sure it will be very very useful. And "pitch, roll" - this seems to be best solution :D

I'm sending some reports.

1.  TTS voices
Is "voice simulation" enabled in the test version 2.13.1.2?
It  worked in the last test version 2.12.2.10 but it seems not now. So it's difficult to test.

2. compass & sat screen
I think it's strange that "Compass On/Off" button appears only in sat screen.

3. gesture
I confirmed that screen turn on/off by gesture properly works on my device (SGNoteII).

4. own web loader for login
login to Geocaching Live and OSM gives "Unexpected Problem!".
(I haven't created account on them yet.)

5. highlight of simplified dots on map
It looks better than before. I like this.

new version: fixed test versions problems with OAuth login screen

@ta-ka: thanks!
1. as I wrote in TTS topic, try to set speed parameter in configuration file. Sorry I do not mention this

2. I'm still not sure about these buttons. On smaller device, there's very low space so I have to think about it

3. it's not still best. Mainly it took too long to see if something happen. It now works in a way, that Locus "record" for two seconds what you do before sensor and then do some action. I now reduced this to 1.5s, so we'll see

4. thanks, fixed

But nevertheless I'd like to know if there will be a better text for the clock/distance instructions.

Regarding the new vector world map, a good idea, thank you for providing it!

I'm wondering about best usage. I have selected auto-select vector map and map center is e.g. in Germany on normal vector map on zoom level >8. Now I reduce zoom level until <=8 but still the normal vector map gets rendered (of course quite slow).
I only installed the .map file, not the two other files because I don't know which purpose they serve.
*edit*: In the other direction from low to high zoom levels the map doesn't switch as well from World to Germany.

"Now I reduce zoom level until <=8 but still the normal vector map gets rendered" ... this is weird, it should not work in this way,

Please check if you really have vector world map in Locus/mapsVector/_world directory. Optional two files cause colored shading of world map in levels 1 - 5, so they're not necessary, just optional. It also do not matter if you have enabled auto-loading. World vector map should not be visible in list of vector maps! and is used automatically. So in all cases, it's used for levels 1 - 8

As I had a major failure in my HTC One V yesterday, I had to revert to my Desire C. I wanted to give it a geocaching test, so to kill 2 birds with one stone I loaded the test version to try on the trip.
The Proximity Sensor works a treat once I realised it had to be switched on in "Settings - Global". There were a few spurious switching, but I put that down to going from full sun into wooded shade.
I too, like tommi initially put the World map directly into the Locus/mapsVector , but since returning home have deleted them and copied over the full _world folder. Now they are unavailable in the Free version but are visible in the Pro, exactly as jusc posted.

Lastly I tried to log on to GC Live, having first checked that my nick on geocaching.com was entered , all I get is a red box with Unexpected problem - please contact me with a description of your problem..

edit
One thing I forgot to mention on the World map. Either the sea level has risen drastically or the map is wrong, approx 3 miles of the South Devon coast has disappeared under water. Maybe I should have built that Ark when we had floods last year. :D

There is a bug in 2.13.1. If I download geocaches using the G4L app (or import just one cache according to a GC code) and choose an existing category that already contains geocaches (while all of them are already shown on the map), then after new geocaches are imported to that category, all other geocaches from it disappear from the map. In Data / Points / (category name), all geocaches are still checked as displayed. After exiting and relaunching Locus, everything is OK.

Enough time to make a screenshot and more...

I'm looking what other apps are doing at start sequence.
Most of them show me a normal neutral black/grey screen.

@gynta: longer white screen - I also noticed this and don't know why this happen. I was measuring and testing it a lot and cannot find real reason. Seems that it really starts to need a loading screen (splash screen) more then before

pickup tracks/points - thanks fixed

text in landscape .. hmm and what should I do with it? :) I was thinking about placing "GPS" button into gps screen as now and "Compass" button into screen with compass

Should'nt the map name in the title bar changed to "world" for zoom 1-8?

Quotenews:
main news:
- introducing new map of the world as vector map that cover world for 1-8 zoom levels when using vector maps (extract attached file into Locus/mapsVector directory and enjoy)
+1

A nice future improvement after this feature arrives might be an option to use a sqlite map...

Sorry if this sounds annoying. Using a bitmaps targets exactly my demands. Maybe not now, maybe in the future..

One hint, if you try to store a track, the keyboard overlaps the information screen. The buttons for "Store" "Quit" "OK" are behind the keyboard top down. That´s new, but not a good solution I think.  ;)

Thank you for answer. I changed the rom because I had some problems outside from Locus. Most of these problems are gone, but other problems were born like this "keyboard" problem. :)
So now I changed the rom back and this problem ig gone again. It´s seems not to be a problem with swiftkey.
Now I´m waiting which new problems that will come in future.

Hi menion,
I have a GPS problem with all test versions >2.13.1 (free and pro market version).
I get always fewer satellites, later a fix or no fix at all (even with enough sats).
The whole last week I tested all possibilities.
E.g. with the test version I had after 30 minutes 5-6 sats and no fix. I booted the SM, again no fix under a free sky. Then I started the pro version and as usual after 10-15 secs a fix. A new start of the test version had the same bad result.
The app GPS Test Plus shows enough sats and a fast fix too.

I tried all test versions 2.13.1.1 -.3.

Did you change anything with the GPS since 2.13.1?
I installed the test version again and made all settings new but had no success.

I was always using the test versions.

Hi tramps, I'm comparing month old code and except yesterday change with some notifications, there is absolutely no change that should affect GPS handling. Another mystery? Hmm only thing that affect GPS directly before you see it in skyplot etc. are

- filling altitude (automatic)
- GPS auto-off

so check if both features are disabled. Maybe some of them may couse problems. Anyway I just turned of GPS in locus and even indoor I had fix after few seconds ...

Maybe there was a change since 2.12.x because first time with 2.13.1 I had to change my manual height correction from -40 to -60 meter to get correct values in dynamic altitude.

I have no gps-fix problem with 2.13.1

Maybe I try 2.13.4 later.

hmm there should be no need to modify defined altitude offset on same place on earth. It's a constant value that do not change in time. Best is to use automatic offset, because it's computed from world geoid model and it's values are enough precise for mobile device. Fact that you "needed to change this offset by 20m" ... hmm how precise you think, that altitudes from your Defy are? If they are +-20, then it's quite precise mobile :)

btw. I really suggest new test version, because vector maps, mainly on slower devices, should be again a lot faster

Post by: Henk van der Spek on July 21, 2013, 10:46:15
Ok, two questions then:
* does automatic offset, computed from world geoid model need a constant data connection?
* what value is used to show near the cursor when I select dynamic altitude under map - objects & style ?
This is the one that you can place "right of the icon" or "under the icon".
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.13.X+ (updated 20.7.2013)
Post by: Menion on July 21, 2013, 10:51:38
1) automatic correction download small file (around 2MB) from locus server - once! and then use this file to compute offset. So there is no need for internet connection

2) you may see different behaviour of this function. Because when you HAVE offline elevation data, then you see "dynamic altitude" value immediately as you move with map. So you move with map and this value change. This mean, Locus compute altitude value offline from downloaded file. Otherwise this value appear after cca 3-5s and in this case is used Google server and it's Google Elevation API service, so it's needed internet connection here

EDIT: hank, still moto defy? Because I received just two crashes with OutOfMemory on defy so I expect it's from you :). Hmm again in MapsForge. Damn ... and it's still happen even if I reduced a little bit memory consumption. Anyway if this happen on netherland map, then we have in mind an idea how to reduce memory requirements a lot. It will just need some time to prepare this.

Thanks for explaining the height info.

Now trying Locus 2.13.1.4

Start up is as fast, about ten seconds and yes, starts with a white screen that does not bother me. Zooming and panning maybe faster, hard to evaluate.
On zooming out I got the world map (after seperately downloading it and moving it to the right folder).
Got some crashes when zooming in again, probably when map auto load tried to switch to my own vector map again.
Attached log file.
World map is nice but maybe make it a choice when it "kicks in"; I would choose zoomlevel 11 than.

The name field at the top of the screen does not change to World Map and the World Map is not selectable through Maps or Quick Map Switch (probably intended?).

On 2.13.1.4 I get more often the processor 100% warning compared to 2.13.1.

- the text at the title bar of the "Map color mode" dialogue is wrong.
- on GPS screen, meaning of the texts (on/off) at the bottom button seems opposite.
- GPS on/off by tapping 2D sky view is very nice.  I think it will be also nice if the same function is available at the 3D sky view and the compass view.

after hillshade is enabled. I get some tiles with hillshades, others not. (With SGS2 no experiments with this pohne! It´s for cycling and not changed sice a year.   )

It´s not clear if the hillshades are not shown, because they are not downloaded, or they are only not shown after scrolling to left/right (west/east).

@ta-ka: thanks, texts were really opposite :). Taping on skyplot in 3D ... I'm still surprised how much people use this crazy screen. I'll anyway rather keep turning on/off by simple button at bottom

@jusc: shading should be visible on tiles, for which you have downloaded elevation data. What you see is nice example that on right side are these files missing, so I suggest as gynta suggested. Later will be in locus stored pack of elevation files for a specific country, but for now, gynta's method is best solution how to get elevation files you need.

Anyway what you and others think about this last hill-shading? I think it looks quite good :) Finally ...

@gynta: labels "GPS on/off" ... you know, it's neverending story ... place there "Gettings locations disabled" is quite long for a small sky circle ... and in the end, by tapping, you say locus to send request on GPS location to system, which mean Locus is app, that cause that your device start to receive GPS data ;)

- red texts: ... eh, what is problem with them? It's probably more on peter then on me. Anyway hillshading have absolutely no effect on content of map

- confusing texts: look on it from different point of view. If you do not understand anything, then is always better to see not precise, but clear description, then confusing description. "Obtaining location" or "My location" are for me little bit confusing, because it's not clear what happen, but both describe system better. "GPS on/off" is inaccurate description that lie ... but almost everyone know what is "GPS" and everyone know what this will do (at least everything think that know what this will do". ... so these labels aren't really simple. Best solution is to remove "Satellite screen" completely. Google Maps also do not need it :)

you mean re-install? Currently locus asks for downloading a library in case, you open "Points" screen. It do not bother as before during a work with map etc. And re-install was needed because previous version of Locus downloaded incorrect file (correct was missing), so it was needed to remove Locus to download new file

yes it is possible. I was also thinking about a way how to use this "tap tap" system. But does it make a sense? Because it generally do not turn on/off compass. It just say whether to take source for compass rotation from hardware compass or from GPS.

Here is a list of missing texts which I found so far. Some of those texts were discussed before the release of version 2.13.0 but it wasn't listed in the crowdin.net at that time. So I've been expected to be add at the next release.

Hi menion.
About the list, there is no easy way to prepare but there is only looong way.

For the translation work, I tried almost every single menus/functions in locus, one by one, as much as I could, then assigned translations taking into account where/when/how the words appears in locus.
It requires real hassle but it makes the quality of translations much higher. As a by-product of the careful work, I've found some words are missing.

Translation into Japanese have some chance to obtain such by-product because of the language dissimilarity to English. It sometimes makes strange meaning on the screen and it is relatively easy to recognize. Of course I had to be careful.

ta-ka ... hat down!

I checked first two items and I see a message from crowdin "This string is marked as duplicate and should not be translated". So seems that it block translation, because in english, it has same meaning. Hmm ... I'll try to fix them.

You're doing really crazy (in good word meaning) good job. What may I do for you to repay this debt? :)

EDIT: there were few more items you miss, but generally you found all hidden items. Ufff, amazing :)

Locus is very useful for me in jogging/hiking/cycling/driving. That's already good enough.

By the way, I have more things to report. It is a list of words which are used at different place in locus for different context. I already reported such kind of list before. It was part of them.  I'll post new report when I finished summarizing.

Hi menion,
I have these GPS problems since the first test versions 2.13.1.1.

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3189&start=40#p21855 (http://forum.locusmap.eu/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3189&start=40#p21855)
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3189&start=100#p22283 (http://forum.locusmap.eu/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=3189&start=100#p22283)

Over 4 days I tested all what I could think of.
The market versions 2.13.1 (free and pro, shortly LP) are definitively not affected.
I de-installed the test versions and tried a new configuration.
1.Sunday afternoon (starting with a bad Locus Test (shortly LT) I tried:
reboot, delete all files in datagps to force a GPS coldstart and hundred others: no success.
Then I wiped cache and dalvick cache and renew all permissions: LT had after 10 secs a good fix during the rest of the day :-)
I switched the phone to flight mode and put it aside.
2. The next morning I started a tour with LT: after 20 mins only 1-2 sats and no fix. Rebooting does not help, so I started LP and after 10 secs 6-7 sats and a fix.
At the summit I had 11/11 sats, I stopped LP and with LT I had 11/11 too.
In the evening flight mode again.
3. The next day exact the same behavior.
4. Yesterday evening I did not switch to flight mode and now this morning  LT get a fix after ~20 secs.

Did you perhaps use other Android functions or procedures to get GPS data or do you delete a cache or other data in the test versions?
I will surely be desperated when the new market version will be released :-(

Another one:
This morning I made a short trip to buy something and returned within 30 mins.
The first track (...:46a) was made with Locus Test (I heard the lost fix several times), the second track (..:50b) back to home was made with Locus Pro (2.13.1).
You can see the difference: the test version has problems with holding the fix.
I have this behavior since the first test versions too.

Please find attached a report of translation texts which is used more than once in locus for different purpose. I tried to make the list easy to read, but not so good... sorry.  I hope it is useful.

As far as I can see, there are no such problems with Note 2 (4.2.2), but I will try to make some tests tomorrow with my S2 (4.0.4).

Sure, because i am the only one with this problem :-(

But why do the two versions behave so different at the same time and place?
Until the versions 2.12 I had absolute no difference between the market and test versions.

I like the "world map". Is there any possibility of applying a custom theme to it? All the road colours change when I zoom out (though it's not the worst thing in the world and I could live with it!)

hi guys,
I'm sorry but tomorrow (already today) in early morning I leave for 5-6 days on hiking trip, so excuse me for a while. I just updated testing version to latest code. There are some updates but version isn't tested, so if there will be an serious problem, please Gynta or Matthias, delete it in first post, thanks.

Enjoy next days and hope you prepare some list of bugs and absolutely needed improvements since I came back.

@john: it's not planned. I hope that we find optimal settings for this world map theme. Currently it's build-in without ability to change and I hope it will remain in this way.

I tested version 2.13.1.5 this morning with the Galaxy S2. It takes a longer time to get a fix about 5 minutes.  Maybe there was also a problem to get the fix, because I moved on foot in this time.  After getting the Fix Track recording was nor problem.
But because 2.13.1.7 is out, I will make another test later this day.

I'm sure that you have tried something to fix the problem because when I was browsing the crowdin on 24th July I actually saw some texts appearing. But at least on 26th July, they disappeared again.

Hi,
I was playing around with the latest Testversion to check out the new Offline POIs, World Map and Hillshading for Vector Maps.
Maybe someone can help me with a few issues:
Hillshading: Is it possible to download the HGT Files (required for the hillshading) in any other manner than by creating a track and filling in the height Information?
Maybe download the file for a whole country from somewhere? At the moment i can only see the hillshading around areas where i have created a track.
Offline POIs: Is it possible to show the POIs directly on the map (e.g. show all campsites nearby) or can u only select them in the POI list and then export them as a waypoint?

I also love the new world map, as it loads a lot quicker than the usual low zoom levels (although it seems that the loading speed of vector maps has improved once again). But it seems that there is still a little problem with the display of country names (some are missing, sometimes the word is half missing, overlay problems with capitals etc.). I tried this with several themes.

@ta-ka: please check if texts can be translated. Maybe they're already marked as "Translated"? I'll check it once more. In probably 25. I uploaded new texts on crowdin, so it's possible that it marked texts again as duplicate ... hope not. And thanks for list of incorrect translations. I don't rather want to think, how much time you had to spend on this ...

@eldron: packs of HGT files for every country are planned and will be in new version of Locus Store, which is in very slow preparation. I suggest to download HGT files over Locus more then from any alternative sources, because these HGT files, should be completely without holes and little bit optimized. Offline POIs - when you display any list of pois, on top is icon of map which display all visible points in list on map. And finally, problem with labels on vector maps .. it's not a problem just of the world map. By this suffer all vector maps. I was trying to fix it, but result is still not perfect, I know ....

@gynta thanks for the link, i found a couple of threads about that topic, but not that one.
@menion
Welcome back, hope you had a nice hiking trip!
So am i getting this right - at the moment there is no other way (within locus) to download the hgt files than to fill in the height information?
So if i want to see the height information of a new place i have to draw a little mini track and fill in the info or is there an easier way that i am not seeing?
I know that these are all beta functions, so i am not complaining, just curious.
Offline POIs - thanks, i would have never guessed that the map symbol was there for displaying the POIs on the map - works like a charm!
Vector Maps - I really hope that one day the labeling for vector maps gets sorted out. How comes that it is so difficult?
It works so much better on Tilemaps and surely they were at some stage only computer generated as well.
As of now i still prefer my Tilemaps, as they load instantly and show me all the street and town names.

Can´t wait until all these great new functions leave their Beta Status!

hehe, yes I had. After two years finally with backpack, hiking over Moravskoslezske Beskydy. And I'm completely dead :)

Anyway ... better to download HGT files, is long-click on any place, tap on address, tap on first icon (add point) and in second tab, just fill elevation. Downloading HGT isn't in any beta version. It was just created for single purpose - filling altitude. But now, there is more usage for these HGT files, so I'll improve this system. I've got it already in mind and I'm sure, you'll like it.

Labeling of vector maps - if there will be no filtering of labels, whole map will be completely covered with texts. So in mapsForge is some mechanism that choose which labels display and which not. I've already rewrote most of this library, but this section is still small mystery for me ...

Hi, these are issues I have observed with current version. Could they be fixed in next public release?
- it seems some kinds of maps are not offered in the quick map switcher even when they're covering cursor location (specifically SHOCart raster map at zoom level 15, SQLite OruxMaps format)
- it seems the auto loading vector map doesnot switch properly when coming from lower to higher layers (usually world -> local V3 map)
- POIs imported from mapitems are shown fine for zoom levels 13 and above. But for zooms <=12, the icons size is too small. Could the icons size be normalized to same size regardless on zoom level? (Grouping in effect if too dense). Also could custom icon and size be set for individual GPX files in /mapitems?

Two insignificant points witch existed for some time
1. usual i use the official Proversion with my "right panel config".
While updating to a new official Proversion, or installing a new Testversion(free/pro) the setting of my right panel in the proversion is changed and i have to configure it oncemore.
[attachment=1:2o7yyw1q]Verändert1.jpg[/attachment:2o7yyw1q]
2. while starting the testversion the "satinfobutton" cover the infotext

@tommi: missing gradient is probably because both values do not have altitude value. Currently, you need altitude at your location and also at target point.

@Bucky kid: did you tested missing maps with latest test version or with version 2.13.1 from Google Play? Also visibility of small points at 12 and lower zoom levels is also improved, so they should be visible quite well now.

@balloni:
  1) weird. both version should share same settings. Anyway I improved this little bit, so if in current version is this problem, I'm sure in next won't be.
  2) I think this is not a problem. Public version do not have notification about time limit etc..

@tramp20: hmm, few posts above, jusc wrote also about some problems with GPS. I'm quite confused, because I searched all changes in code around GPS handling, and there is really no change. Weird ...

Can't confirm, sorry. See the dynamic altitude in the screenshot w/o internet connection. So there should be altitude available and as it is only few 100m from my home I'm sure altitude is available for both location and target.

Ah, I understand. But this would be really useful for tour preparations. In the same way I can measure distances I'd like to measure altitude differences from a way point to the center cross.

Unfortunately not yet.

When I saw the hidden texts got appeared at crowdin on 24th July, I was preparing the 'list_of_texts.txt' for the first priority. So I didn't input translations. After that, when I accessed crowdin again to fix the translation, the texts got disappeared and not shown even now. So I lost the chance to input translations.

Hi menion
the settings "shading" are confusing V 2.13.1.8
[attachment=0:jtrsoguv]Shading.png[/attachment:jtrsoguv]
1. opening "map advanced" status of shading (Deaktiviert) german, discription english
2. next window  i choos "An" and close window with "x" or return button of the device, status of shading is allways (Deaktiviert) german,    discription german
3. i close this window and open again "map advanced" i see status of shading (Aktiviert) german, discription english

The headline is allways english, german "Kartenschattierung"  or "Schummerung" or somthing else

by the way, the german translation is wrong, it say "different posibilities to switch the screen on and off"
suggestion: Möglichkeit zum (de)aktivieren der Kartenschattierung wenn Höhendaten vorhanden sind

Sorry if this sounds annoying. Using a bitmaps targets exactly my demands. Maybe not now, maybe in the future..

You are not alone ;-)
It would be great to have a CHOICE. Also re. the level of switching to the alternate map. Now it is at 8, it should be configurable (in cfg file, if you feel that there is no room in the app itself ...). I made a level 10 SQLite map (land, ocean up to level 7) last year when I used Maverick (before I got addicted to Locus  ;) , an dit is just 1.5 GB e.g.. @balloni: just try to zoom in/out. Or maybe enable autoloading of vector maps (this will disable caching of vector maps that may cause problems). And storing HGT on card .. files have to be stored in Locus/data directory, so you may move whole Locus directory to you card, but not single HGT files
