please have a look at the internal hiking theme. (tested with test version 2.12.2.8)
The "Herrmannsweg" in Germany near Bad Iburg should have a "white H" foreground on black rectangle background. But there is allways only a black rectangle background symbol.
In OSM the route is tagged as osmc:symbol = black:black:black_rectangle:H:white
Left picture hiking theme only right picture hiking theme plus lonvia hiking overlay how it should be.

How to say..I know about this weakness long time...ehm.
I postponed how to transfer text value from osmc_symbol to Mapsforge map file. Unfortunately still not solved. But we're planning some changes in vector maps so I'll place it to my todo list.
