Title: how to use a file .map / .xml
Post by: Gabriele696 on April 20, 2013, 13:23:06
hi! i'm a new enthusiastic user and i'm looking for an offline map of Italy. until i discovered locus i used Oruxmap with a map file downloaded from:
http://www.openandromaps.org/en/downloads/europe (http://www.openandromaps.org/en/downloads/europe)
and i have a folder with inside those files: Italy.map and  italy.map.xml.
now i'm trying to use this map on locus but i can't add the folder to the offline maps list.
is there any way to make it work? i have to download again the map? i tried to use Mobile atlas creator but i always select too many tiles and i can't create the map i want :x

thanks in advice and sorry for my bad posting/bad language :?

This is a Vectormap.
Just copy the "italy.map" to .../Locus/mapsVector/..
..and delete Orucks
After that, you will find this map (inside Locus) at map manager -> VECTOR

edit
or add this map inside Locus in the map manager -> VECTOR -> ADD

when i search an address and press "navigate" it require internet...but then it use my offline map right?

can i use this topic to ask you where i should put kml file to make locus bring me to the beginning and the follow the track?
when i try to import track it say "select a folder"..i create a new one but the import button does nothing :( it only appears the new folder with nothing inside
many thanks!
(i'll obviously delete orux when i'll be able to make locus work      but i'm on the good way  )

Locus can't  calculate your route or search an address without inet - but u can use the vectormap without inet.

hello Gabriele,
just to give you some more information.

1. .map and .xml are two files that define vector maps. .map is map itself, .xml is file with defined theme, probably used by some other programs. Locus needs only .map file. So best is to put this file into Locus/mapsVector directory as Gynta wrote. this will work. In Locus settings, you may then change a appearance of this map by changing a theme

2. about files - Locus support KML and also GPX files, so there should be no problem with import a KML file (also KMZ). When you tap on "Import" in list of Locus features, you do not see your file?

suggest to check these two manual pages, they may help
http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual ... _to_import (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:import_dialog#how_to_import)
http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual ... ems_screen (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:screens:items_screen)
