- major changes are in new "Altitude manager". It's currently in beta. I have changed quite a lot of on background. Whole system seems to be very very complicated and I'm thinking how to make it more simple. Anyway if you want to test, I may suggest to test with pressure sensor (if you have it) and also record NMEA messages. If there will be any problem, I may at least simulate your way by NMEA (except pressure values of course)

- Altitude still only !=0 after GPS fix though pressure sensor enabled
- vertical in km/h, should be m/h
- after GPS switched off still 12/12 satellites displayed, should be 0/0

I have these error messages since Locus can write a own logfile in logs :-)
I did wrote this menion long ago but he said this is not important.
This "missing" directory is always my selected personal map and changes with another selected map. This is IMO not the cause for the FC.
Edit: I tested this free in my androVM_vbox86p_4.1.1 (in VMWare) and it stopped unexpectedly too even with vector maps selected, but when I delete my maps directory then the free version runs 20 sec longer before it stops again.
Edit2: Without my personal maps the free runs now fine at least on VMWare.

I use 2.10.2.4, too and recorded some tracks with my dashboard open - no problems regarding crashes or so.
Today i tried Locus beta version downloaded from Post nr.1 -2.10.2.4.apk. I wanted to see how works Slope and Vertical Speed. And ...it works.
But there where some problems at the start. (In seetings i have autocalibration with built in baromether.)
I started recording tracks ( driving a car in the city generaly on flat).Trak was recordering but Dashboard was not working. I saw screen like this

Then when i tried to stop recordering suddenly Locus ''crash'' i have to switch off my phone.Then i started Locus again. This time Dashboard worked perfectly.

Few word about ''SLOPE''.
It works , few seconds delay like in all Cycling Computers but we get normal values.
I see problems for ex. when we stops , or speed is very low doesn't matter it is flat or big hill .
Last weekend i made two Mountain Ski trip and sometimes i get values like -Slope 252% see

I hope that Slope is mostly designed to Cyclist and that in the future counting SLOPE Locus will use ( or it will be an option for Phones which support ANT+) more exactly distances from wheel , like most cycling computers- not from Gps . This same we will not see values like -265%
Driving a car from a stable hill ( 5,6%) for few km. Locus show good Slope Values . Today i also tried little bit cycling and Slope was of course not perfect but quite Ok and this is very good, THX.
I observed such strange values with slope as well - in extreme situations like speed going down to 0 or loss of sync.

Yes, all maps are now recognized again and the track charts look now much better and the sum values for height e.g. are between 5 and 10% accuracy compared to my bike computer Ciclo HAC4 :-)

A few days ago, a member wrote about a problem in the top panel config. -> (link to german topic) (//http://forum.locusmap.eu/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2988&p=19996#p19994)
In some cases, it's not possible to change the functions.
The screenshot shows a worst case: all functions on the top, can't be changed.
PS.: The double "gps status" is also strange...

double icons aren't so weird. There is possibility to selected up to 10 buttons on top panel and all are predefined at start. So if you add any on right panel or change any at top, rest of preselected still remain same. Anyway ... just change them (if it works :) )

I checked again and now Locus offers up to 10 buttons. Seems that it was a problem due to changed settings for screen resolution ad dpi/inch.

This week I had two complete freezes with this version 2.10.2.5:
1. After about 90 mins of track recording Locus freezes and I noticed this at home.
2. Today after 75 mins again a freeze. This time I saw it half an hour later so I could continue my track recording for the next 4 hours with Locus pro.
Both times Locus was complete dead, I could only kill it with a task killer.
I saw some forum postings that Locus suddenly stopped recording but I have at this moment no time to search.

just tried the new version, I like the boost of vector map rendering. I think on zoom changes it firstly just does a magnification/miniaturisation of the screen image and afterwards calculates the new level, right?
Another point: I already observed it in the previous test version and now I could simply reproduce it with the current version: Automatic change of vector maps doesn't work (always?): With the last test version I observed it during car ride from Slovenia to Austria because more and more of the screen remained white. I could only manually change to the Austrian map and then it worked again.

Austrian map only appeared after manual change to it via Quick map switch button.

I think rendering of vector maps and now also online maps, is almost perfect. I create method that is very fast and works well for both map types. Finally after years :)

I have few problems to report.
Quick Map Switch
This problem exists for a longer time so it was there in older versions of Quick Map Switch button.
It is quite common, but not in all cases and I cannot tell how to cause this, that when I switch
from Vector map to other map (SmartMaps or online OSM), then I cannot switch back to Vector
map of the are because it does not show it at all. So in Czech Republic it offers me Saschen and Poland only.
And in Cuba it offers Iceland.
I then have to go to the main map menu and select the proper vector map from there.
Problems with compass
After last upgrade to released version, the compass started to behave erratically. When I drive
in the car the arrow switches between proper direction and north rapidly. It seems that compass
reports 0 very often. I am not sure if this is problem of Locus, but I was not changing anything
in Settings, just upgraded Locus.
Problems editing Cache coordinates
In the beta version I was trying to edit the coordinates of cache in the listing (by pencil icon).
The was different coordinates system selected and I need to enter the coordinates in the different
system, so I opened the drop down menu to change them. But the menu was opened in a strange manner
and I was not able to scroll it down to the first item in the menu, it appeared to be behind the top
of the screen and it didn't allow me to scroll it further down.
This problem is also not all the time

For me ,,Your Slope Algorythm'' is almost perfect for cycling.
Today i tried little bit more hilly course with gradients sometimes 20%. I also have on my Handlebar Sigma ROX 9.1 and something like this

Compared slope values in Sigma and in Locus with these in Bike Mounti Inclinometer i can say that Locus is even better ( quicker delay) then Sigma.
Maybe when speed is 0 we saw sometimes 256 % but this is completely no problem when we do cycling.
On road we get what we want. When SLOPE is 10 % we see in Locus 9,10 or 11 % but not 3% and this is important.

So, on larger vector map for Germany, the old version is faster than the
beta one.
Caching does help a lot, and once the min/max levels for caching are
configurable, local activities will be fast, which will be nice indeed.
But you see that processing times for level 12 and below are really nasty !
Switching to a predefined SQLite map is absolutely key if you roam
around the world or a country on larger scales - Locus is not a
geochaing only app, right ;-) ?
If Menion is not eager to do this automatically (i.e. switch to other source when crossing configured level threshold, then a one click button
that SWAPS between the current map selection and zoom level (could be vector, another SQLite or online regardless) and a configurable SQLite
DB (and back - stay at the coordinates as is when swapping back) would be an eays way to implement. Trivial in fact.
@chrabros: thank you for valuable comments. I'll ask you for some additional information. Quick map switch prepare maps based on current map center. So in your case, you have to be a close to some border right? Unfortunately in current vector map format is no information about some exact bounding area, to depect which map is located at which place. But I may confirm, that there is need for some improvements!
compass: did you just tried to calibrate it? Wave with device in air a while
editing coordinates: I was just updating this screen last two days, so you may test new test version, where this is already improved

@michael: seems you spend quite a lot of time with testing :). Anyway I'm really surprised that you have slower rendering with new version that with old. It's almost impossible on your device. Main change is that locus now render maps in more then once core. It's not that on 4 core device are rendered 4 tiles at once, but partially yes. On my Galaxy Note 2 is gain with latest version around 20%, on SGS2 it's around 15%. There are some mechanisms in MapsForge library that limit another improvements, so I'm worried, we're in the end with speed.
Discussion on topic "Caching of vector maps" was already on GetSatiscation. There were no result because everyone say something different. Locus has also problems with caching because some maps are loaded just when they're needed. So Locus firstly render tiles and then discover that some map may fill some hole, so it render tiles again. Anyway these are problems on my side so I'll not bother you with this. Anyway caching of vector maps is really on separate topic, anyway I'm personally not a big fan of this.

today I had the third FC of Locus map free/pro (actual 2.20.2.8) after 2.5 hours of recording.
I had no look on my smartphone during the whole time (almost 5 hours).
Locus again was complete dead with a white screen instead the map, GPS and recording icons were visible. Only with a task killer I could stop Locus.
This time I started catlog before killing (2 hours later after the FC), perhaps you can see something.
These FCs started with all versions > 2.10.2.
It would be better when you continuously (or every x seconds) write the internal logfile to logs so we can see something even if Locus crashes.
I attach the catlog and your logfile right after the new start after killing.
For the next tours I will use Locus 2.10.2 again :-(
Ver 2.10.2.8: click on any POI, Basic info shows " Missing item in UtilFormats", seems like an error??
tramp, there is not much information in your logs. In data from catlog seems to be quite a lot of errors from different applications, but probably nothing serious. And absolutely no error from Locus. There are some notification from some memory monitor ... didn't you started to use some "task killer" that remove unused applications? Isn't there chance, that it also remove part of Locus (track recording)?. I would like to release a new version probably in friday, but with such problem I can't.
Locus logging isn't much useful, because when app crash totally, it's not stored there. Some external application like CatLog is much better for this. Mainly in case, you set there recording and storing on card as fast as possible. Damn ... anyone similar problems?

I do not use an automatic task killer, only Greenify from XDA for Kaiten, Tapatalk. Do you rely on Maps? I made it to an user app to greenify it.
Tomorrow I will make another tour over 4 hours but with the 2.10.2.
I will report immediately.
If I am the only one with these FC then please do not stop the next version for the market.

suggest to check 2.10.2 version together with Greenify to verify that this program have no hands in Locus crashes. I'm worried it should have influence.

Greenify does hibernate only apps that I select explicit (as Kaiten or Tapatalk) so I think no problem for us.
Just coming home from my 5 hours tour with Locus 2.10.2: absolute no problem. I looked many times on the display to see if Locus is still alive, made some calls etc.
The first crash was 17.04.2013 with Locus 2.10.2.5 (?)
the second was 18.04.2013 with Locus 2.10.2.6
then bad weather :-(
the last crash was 24.04.2013 with Locus 2.10.2.8
I do not have saved the older test versions so I do not know the exact version but I always installed them right after publishing from you here.
I have good tracks made on 17.,15., 13., 09.04.2013 until January.
I always use raster maps (OutdoorActive).

you'll be very kind! In first post is new test version. It do not print any special debug messages because I don't know where to start anyway if you use any log recorded, please enable it at start and let it record for a whole time.
Hmm and one more note ... I also had once such "freeze". It helped to just rotate a screen, so please try it next time, maybe this will be also your problem as well

I will try the new version tomorrow.
Do you really mean catalog should run over 3 hours parallel?
And I can exclude rotating as my phone is always vertical in my backpack.

tramp, if you don't have problem with catlog, then let it run. About rotation, I mean when you find locus stuck, just try enable rotation and rotate map screen once if this helps or not

With the first version I got three times a very very short error message after closing Locus. I could not read it but some problems with sdcardlocus???srtm or nmea or....
Perhaps missing height data?
I could not reproduce it

Both problems seem to be fixed, now I have more accurate altitude than ever :D

Barometric altitude measurement puzzled me since last summer.
One thing remaining, not sure if I already mentioned it: In dashboard satellites(used) and satellites(all) stay on last value after switching GPS off or out of sync. These values should go back to 0 (similar to accuracy and altitude which go to 0 in this case).

Well I doubt this. It happens quite often and I do not believe that I was close to the boundary of Cuba or Czech Republic
at that time. But I'll watch the behaviour with this in mind. But maybe it has happened when switching from SmartMaps
and there I could really be at the border of touristic map.

I am back now after 4 hours and 1000 Hm.
With the 2.10.2.10-1 I had no freeze :-)
But catlogging the whole time made my battery empty, of course I had a second with me to change.
If I pause Locus, exit it, change the battery and restart recording: does Locus recognize this and append it to the paused track or at least ask to allow it?
If I remember two years ago OruxMaps asked to continue the recording if the new record starts within a short time (perhaps 1-2 hours) after pausing.
This would be nice for Locus too.
But I found a new bug: since the 17.04.2013 these testversions are no longer exporting the complete track name (e.g. 2013-04-17_090000_Grainbach.gpx) but only -_Grainbach.gpx.
As I export all tracks to dropbox I need this really.
