Title: Vector Maps for Pakistan
Post by: Aamir Ali Dillon on March 18, 2013, 11:06:12
Hi Menion..  :)

I must admire your whole team effort for making Locus a great success in the arena of Mapping applications. I 'd however, like to ask few things though, regarding Vector Maps..

I find two places where i see Vector Maps of Pakistan. first one is 5.1 mb file on following link

http://vectormaps4locus.eu/Asia-General (http://vectormaps4locus.eu/Asia-General)

and the next link is through Map Manager in the application Asia (English)  category, Pakistan 543.30 MB (407.64 MB), 30.01.2013

Once i proceed to the download link, it gives me options of Vector Maps download after purchasing credits at Store. In Store, i get under Vector Maps following options.

Vector maps, 2GB  0.99E
Vector maps, 5GB  2.49E
Vector maps, 10GB  3.99E
Vector maps, 30GB  9.99E

My Question-1 If I want to download just Pakistan Map 543.30 MB (407.64 MB), what is the rest of data in each Category (2,5,10,30GB) which is being charged from me?

Question-2. Is the Vector map of Pakistan complete in all respects. I read few places that there are missing lines, labels and dark segments in the newly created Vector Maps. Please Clarify.

Question-3. Will the updates be automatic and free? or will it be charged each time in every month.

Question-4. If I download 30GB map, does "Locus Free" support it? or even does Locus Pro support it?

Thanks in advance for taking time to replying these queries.
Regards..

Hello,
 To your questions:
http://vectormaps4locus.eu/Asia-General (http://vectormaps4locus.eu/Asia-General) are little bit obsolete maps created by Locus community not by Locus development team. Vector maps that are available via Locus store contains contour-lines and these maps are created especially for internal Locus themes (hiking, cyclo,...).

Q1
When you purchase Locus vector maps, you buy something like credit in form of transferred data (in GBytes). Let's say that you buy 10GB/ 3.99Euro. Then you download map of Pakistan. After downloading will be your credit decrease based on size of packed map (407.64 MB).
10GB – 407MB =>  9.6GB

Q2
Vector maps for Locus are generated from OSM data. You can check the coverage these map on http://www.openstreetmap.org (http://www.openstreetmap.org) .It is possible to say that all elements, you can see in http://www.openstreetmap.org (http://www.openstreetmap.org) page are, available in Locus vector maps.

Q3
Map update is related with credit (see Question 1). After every update will be your credit decrease based on the size of the map file
For example first update will affect your credit in this way:
9.6 GB – 407MB => 9.2GB

When an update is available you can see the indication about it in the Locus store, but is not necessarily to confirm every update.

Q4
Vector maps works exactly same in Locus Free and also in Locus Pro – there is no difference.

Cheers
Petr

Thanks voldpet .. you're the man .. :) ..

edit
A nice rather kind gesture would be if you posted a snapshot / screenshot of how it looks with contour lines (a preview of these Vector Maps) .. and maybe if you could enlighten about the time limit too, upto which my purchased 10 gb shall remain available for me or its limitless ?? .. :)

Thanks so much already .. you guys are rock-stars .. !! :)

Sorry for delay...here you are:
There is no time limit for purchased credit.
