Hi menion,
with 2.9.2.5 Locus could convert my databases but:

with my OutdoorActive map I lost the last zoom factor, I could not zoom beyond this value and I got a destroyed map view (mixed with a Kompass card).

So I restored my database backup again :-(

@gynta: ugly? hmm I have exactly different opinion. Also on settings button. For me it looks perfect now. So 1:1 ;)
@tramp: both maps are SQLite type? very interesting

I tried it (took 20 minutes to load my maps :) ).

The main menu is still narrow, I went to catlog after running this version, and saved the log: //https://dl.dropbox.com/u/24093622/2013-03-11-08-54-25.txt

Yes.

The wrong card appears after some zoom+ tappings and shows then the correct position, the original card stays with the wrong zoom factor.

ok "ugly" is probably the wrong word. :)
"unsorted" or "unbalanced" is the better word.

You are right. A menu should be strcutured in main menu, sub menu and so on. This is more a user "fast" change tab, at least for me.

I could reproduce this behavior on my virtual Android androVM_vbox86p_4.1.1: I used only two sqlitedb maps (the same as on my smartphone).

The incorrect zooming is there too: the map has ZF 11-16, but I cannot zoom deeper (with Locus 2.9.2.3 this was ok).

You have to first zoom_minus and then 2-3 times zoom-plus and then you can see this nice picture.

Post by: Menion on March 11, 2013, 15:44:13
hmm so firstly about ugly menu :)

I'm not sure I understand where is problem. If you start Locus for the first time, main menu will have "maps", "data", "settings", "more" and two more functions that will be set by selected module at start (as on screenshot). That's main intent, to allow configurable menu but also to set some useful functions to start. Two columns are still elegant as before. Fact that you created from menu complete mess is your problem. Solution to this should only disable ability to set own functions and force users to use predefined as now. I'll probably do it at least for maps, data (first row)

@tramp: I loaded some SQLite maps into my device to test, but I'm not able to simulate your problem. I'm sure it will have something to do with function "autoloading", so if you disable auto-loading of personal maps, it will probably work fine, but it's not an solution. Don't you have some two smaller maps that works bad like you show and that you may share with me?

@durian: as I wrote in separate topic, thanks for logs. Problem should be solved now

I reinstalled it and now it´s the same as in menions screenshot. So it would be ok for me and for sure not ugly    but I wonder about "settings" twice on the screen?
Title: Re: [APP-DEV] - version 2.9.2+
Post by: Menion on March 11, 2013, 16:28:18
yes twice ... it's a problem.
- if there will be no users, there will be only one - the one in corner. But because of many users, that want to have settings always close, it's needed as main button. Hmm maybe I'll add settings only as one of six buttons, and if someone remove it, it will automatically appear in top.

So if you'll have "Settings" in menu, it will be only in menu. If you remove it, it will be at top. Hmm little magic behind :)

EDIT: and re-install is not needed (it's also weird that it worked for you). Configuration of main menu, top and right panel is now stored in locus/data/config/panels_settings.lb . This also mean that it will be shared between Free/Pro. This remind me that I have to add this directory into backup system

People like to have shortcuts to settings, to maps, to points, to tracks (and possibly to elements) but they need no shortcut to data because data is only half the way.
Actually I hoped a bit that direct access to points, tracks, elements would be possible now with the massive improvements of usability.

Don't you have some two smaller maps that works bad like you show and that you may share with me?

To explain my personal maps: I have made some overlapping single sqlitedb maps with MOBAC to cover a certain region with all zoom factors. The reason is the limit of downloading tiles from OutdoorActive. These single maps are all in one subdirectory. Locus pro has no problems with this configuration.

BTW you asked OOA long times ago to allow downloading large maps with paying in your store.

1. Yes, if I disable autoloading map then this behavior of loading another map (with the expected zoom factor) has gone.
2. But the other new bug is that Locus does no longer recognize these single maps as belonging together and shows one of these maps with a zoom factor 11-14 but not the others with zoom 15 and zoom 16.
Perhaps this is also the cause to not zoom above 100%. Locus 2.9.2 had not these problems.
If I delete the other maps in this subdir then Locus can zoom again to 200% and 400%.

It is really difficult to explain.
I would send you some maps but they are to big for Dropbox.
Now I am downloading an OOA map with Locus store.
I have a large credit but this does not help here so I need at least two or three days and then these problems with map loading should be gone.

Edit:
After many tries without success I remember why I need these MOBAC generated maps: the frontier between Germany and Austria is in my region and OutdoorActive shows empty or half empty tiles along the frontier so Locus can not display these multilayer (?) maps. We had this discussion last year.

So I have to live with this and to disable autoloading.

Thank you for your patience.
Title: Re: [APP-DEV] - version 2.9.2+
Post by: Menion on March 12, 2013, 17:49:32
you don't have to live with this. It's a problem and have to be fixed!

New test version, try it please. Should solve both problems, with multi-sql maps and auto-loading

Also take care about map icons. Just in case. I did quite huge change that will not be visible on huge devices, but all devices with 800x480 and lower screen, should now see icons very clear and not blurred as before.

@tommi: it's on discussion. I personally do not feel this is needed. Locus remember last opened tab so you go immediately back where you were before.

"my location" is death - long life "GPS On/Off"

For my understanding:
If i see a "play" sign  ->  i press the button when i want "play".

Now here we see a "GPS On" -> So i press this button if i want to switch On GPS

It's not clear for me
it's a status indicator or it's a switch ?

about color: OFF should be grey as before.

About poll:
im not using quick map switch - i know what map i have to use.
So i vote for "Another (discuss below)"
And i dont understand the hype.
There are much more topics with lot of votes.
and this topic has 2 votes on satisfaction...
Title: Re: [APP-DEV] - version 2.9.2+

"my location" is looong problem. "My location" is much precise term to describe what it do then "GPS On/off". Anyway after usability testing we discovered very surprise result. From 8 people, only 0 was able to turn on GPS in Locus. Nice ... after this update, 4 people from 4 was able. So even if really don't like "GPS on/off" button, it much more clear to basic users then "My location" ... unfortunately :)

About poll - option "Another" is more for another option, not for "I don't care". If you don't use Quick map switch", then ignore this. And why poll? Because it's topic related to this test version, because it allow me to see more opinions, not just X stars as on GetSatisfaction where I see how many people stared it, but not how many people don't like this idea ... simple

EDIT: poll removed. I did decision by myself. I'm sure you'll like it ;)

Restore of settings doesn't work (2.9.2 -> 2.9.2.8):

Hi Menion,
I wanted to work actively with the recent test version 2.9.2.8.
To have a reasonable environment I wanted to paste my settings (settings + right panel mainly) from Locus Pro 2.9.2 to Locus Free 2.9.2.8.
1) I did a complete backup in Locus Pro 2.9.2
2) I did a restore from 1) in Locus Free 2.9.2.8 (with selected "Settings" only)
3) There was a toast "successful" or similar
4) But at least the right panel is unchanged, other settings like track recording profile was taken

- Doesn't work this in general between Pro and Free?
- Is the restore broken in Free 2.9.2.8?
- Else?

Thanks,
tommi

P.S.: The change back to GPS is from my pov a bad decision because GPS is simply wrong. I would prefer (as I mentioned at the time we discussed that in the past) the term Android is using: Location and nothing else.

hi tommi,
right panel, top panel and main menu settings are now stored in separated file on your card, so it is not included in backup/restore system of your current version

"GPS on/off" .. as I wrote above. I personally also do not like this description. "My location" is much more precise, but important here is if it's clear also to users. And "My location" unfortunately really isn't. I'll think anyway about it ...

It worked. Thank you. But I do not understand this procedure. Where does the import go to?
Title: Re: [APP-DEV] - version 2.9.2+
Post by: Menion on March 18, 2013, 21:07:44
don't think about it too much :) Process is simple
- you start Locus. It check if exists panels_settings.lb which now contain new configuration of these panels. If exists config is loaded from this file (this also means that since next version, all locus versions will share config of these panels).
- if file do not exists, it looks like you started this version for the first time, so Locus check if exists any previous settings (like the one you imported from backup). If exists, Locus load it and create new panels_settings.lb file
- if it's really new fresh installation, Locus just create default settings ... that's all. In the end, you do not loose any settings if you just update normal version on google play

Ok, here's my two cents on 2.9.2.8:
1. I like GPS on/off ; clear text.
2. Restoring my side panel with the trick you gave Tommi did not work for me.
3. The Vector Map name in the topbar does not change after automatic map switch, unless I do some zooming in/out. (as in 2.9.2)
4. In Parking or in Backup Manager it is still (as in 2.9.2) nearly impossible to open the time setting field (as reproted earlier).
5. Instead of the "More ->" arrow, why not write "Functions"?

6. I somehow missed two recent recorded tracks. When importing them from the "export" folder in my sd card I got confused. I started at the top of the screen with selecting a folder to import it to but the dark-grey box was inactiv. This was because lower in the screen under Settings there was pre-selected "Only display (not import). Logical but confusing.
So, in that screen, I would start with the two lower lines "1. Only display (not import) and 2. Import and display on map.
Below that then comes the folder choice with the extra "empty selected folder". (EDIT: is ame as in 2.9.2. Was confused by preselected "only display" Still the switching is not consistent.)

7. Aha, long press on item in main menu gives option to change item!! Bring my most used ones one click closer. Like it but needs instruction manual.

8. When using the Quick map switch button a menu opens: for the list of "last used" I would prefer max three map-names so I can see more other maps without scrolling. BTW the menu closes when I rotate my phone from portrait to landscape.

9. I like the possible addition of the settings button to the right panel.
10. Back on 2.9.2 now, I like the filter in the quick map switch screen very much! When in vector mode I have no need to see last used online maps

Ok, so far so good. All done indoors because of snow here in Holland.

Hi Henk,
thank you for a valuable feedback!

1. we're think quite long about it, and GPS on/off will remain
2. really not work? hmm here it do not mind too much. Just be sure to delete "panels_settings.lb" file before you update Locus from Google Play!
3. try it a little bit longer. Locus needs to load around 30 tiles from new map only, to set it's name now. I don't see this too important to change it now
4. hmm this is crazy. Tested on four my devices, all works fine (even a Sony X8 wit 2.1A). Don't you plan to update your device to some new version of Android? :)
5. point here is that all these buttons are "functions" and also that we don't have nice icon for functions :). The one used before is quite ofter changed for some extra settings and not into one of most important buttons in Locus
6. hmm this is on discussion. Import/export feature will be our topic for improvements on next month, so I'll keep this in mind. Maybe your idea will be better
7. this is small feature, that is not really important and if someone find it, it will be lucky surprise for him
8, 9, 10. sorry, filter was again removed ... you'll see in next version :))

2. I will try after friday version (right panel import).
3. Auto vector map switch; updating map name in top panel. I think it is not about loading time. I waited 10 minutes. I thought it had to do with cached map tiles but no. Try this: have your local vector map in screen, then search "Berlin" and you see the vector map change (if available offcourse) but not the map name, for me unless I do some zooming in/out. And not a caching thing because I never had Berlin in view before testing right now.
4. See here, image. https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/9hj3bxo7vc9kp (https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/9hj3bxo7vc9kp)  Must be a Motoblur/Froyo thingy. (As with the edit folder/line style, see attached screendump above).

What will you do against this?
I deleted all maps in mapsonline and in maps so I have only 3 vectormaps downloaded from your store.
Every time I start the new .10 I have these error messages (never before).

it's not problem of maps itself. It's problem that you have in Locus/mapsOnline/custom, xml files with definition of custom online maps, that contain duplicate ID's. Maybe you have there more then one xml file? It was my small secret (but it's not anymore) :) that Locus now handle all xml files in this directory, not just providers.xml

Yes, I had the providers.xml and a providers_backup.xml. After renaming the second to .bak all is ok again.

Thank you.

sure, you're welcome. I did this because it now allows for everyone to create configuration xml file just for some map. So there will not be any crazy manuals like, edit providers.xml, put on the end this and delete this, but just "copy this into mapsOnline/custom" and that's all ...

I'll improve this notification text so it will be clear where is problem

On 2.9.2.10 now.
1. Can you please in Backup Manager / Restore "Complete Backup" sort all backups with newest on top like in Restore "Preferences" (old point, also in 2.9.2)

2. I still think using the Quick Map Switch and showing five Last Online Maps is too much, make it three. Ok, I see, it depends where you come from. Coming from a Vector Map it shows two online maps and five vectormaps, nice solution.

3. I again did not succeed in importing my right sidebar settings.
Qoute: hmm ... try to import backup from your pro version, then close test version, delete file locus/data/config/panels_settings.lb and then start your test version, this may helps...

Is that preferences or complete backup or both and in what order? I think I tried all possibilities.

Yesterday you wrote: Just be sure to delete "panels_settings.lb" file before you update Locus from Google Play! UUUHHH, I take test version from forum here.

4. I missed the smaller wheather screen yesterday? But it is ok for me.

Thanks again.

you're my most valuable tester last days :). And you really should not thank me, it should be opposite.

1. Anyway, sorting in opposite direction - have to deny for now, as it's quite a lot of work even it do not look like.

2. yes, active type of map show 5 options, rest only 2

3. forget all I said. Today will be out new version and when you update it from Google Play, all should work correctly without any need for some manual work

4. I really hope all will have same opinion as me, that new weather screen is nice and clean now ;)

Anyway thanks all for feedback you gave me and see you next month with next version ;)
