Hi Cube,
thanks for your work. I'm refreshing all languages in Locus into every release so your translation will surely be in next version. And something more? I don't want anyone push to any translation activity. So if you're using locus that it's perfect. When you during usage see any untranslated texts, just correct it on crowdin and in next version, all will be translated again. Of course, I'll meanwhile do some more texts :) It's neverending story ...

Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: golgot on April 26, 2011, 18:05:35
There is some sentences I can't find on crowdin :

Recommentation (map manager -> warning button)
Addon screen
Basic information (Welcome to Locus)
Quick Switch & Quick Switch sentence explication
Blank (maps)

Also, another queestion, may a word be used in different context. For example the word "rate"... which was translated in french by taux (i.e. ratio)... In Locus, I've find that Rate was in fact used for ranking Locus... So I've changed to "Avis' Which mean Opinion (The word "avis" is used by Android System (even if the word alone may not be really clear)...

So my question : is there any risk that somewhere in Locus, the word "Rate" may be use in another context? I think that no, but I prefer to ask stupid questions... :)
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: Menion on April 26, 2011, 18:54:11
hi,
I update crowdin texts once a time, not everytime, so some of your words will be there in next update. Anyway Basic info (whole text) is html page in locus and only in english. The text isn't perfect and also isn't much required I think, so nevermind it's only english I think. Recommendation - it's same, but here is true that this text is important. Hmm have to think how to do this because it's also HTML page.

About "rate" and others ... hmm yes :) It's possible that they can be uset more times then once. Anyway if you'll see same work on two places with different mean, let me know and I'll separate this into two different translations.
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: golgot on April 26, 2011, 21:07:11
I don't total agree with you : basic info are not so basic ... :) It explain lots of useful things (doubleclick/sqlite file size also.).
Anyway, if you do it for recommendation, I think you'll do it for everything!

Post by: marlar on September 05, 2011, 10:59:49
Hi Menion,

I got a new baby girl, Lea, recently so I haven't been so active with either Locus or the forum. But I download each and every update and is always excited to see what new fantastic features you have added. And if I compare to when I discoved Locus in the beginning of the year is is really amazing what you have accomplished in a few months. I don't even dare to guess what it is like next spring :)

One of the major improvements recently is vector maps, they work very well although a little bit slower, but it is great to have a whole country offline in all zoom levels. And I also immediately bought the vector downloader addon even though you offer it for free for contributors, but the price is very fair indeed and I want to support you! And most of all, it is very useful to be able to download vector maps away from my computer :-)

I have one wish for the vector maps: A go to map center function just like for normal offline maps. If for example I have downloaded Turkey I have to use the search function to go there. It would be much easier just to go to map center.

This thread is really about translations and I have a suggestion. I have contributed to the Danish translations but many of them are still not good because you see it out of context when you translate it. But when I am out offroad and use it for real, the translations pop up and sore my eye! But in that situation I cannot do anything about it.

Would it be possible to implement a translation mode something like this:

When you see a translation that needs attention you somehow long-press and mark it as a to-do item. That could be a text on the main screen on in the settings. Later on at home you can get a list of the items you marked and translate them properly using crowdin.

I would say that most of the texts and thus the bad translations are in the settings, so that is the most important area in my opion.

Do you think something like that would be possible?
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: Menion on September 05, 2011, 13:42:04
hey, congratulation :) !!! (to girl)

don't worry about activity, priorities are clear here :)

anyway, speed of vector maps - I know, there is still place for improvements.

About storing some text for later fixes ... I have really no idea how to do this anyway I think that this is not a big problem. Understand that text should be in difference sence, but when you sometimes fix some problems you'll remember, this will be enough. Even with some mistakes, for people who do not speak English (or who really hate my English translation), is every translation more then welcome.
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]

Post by: berkley on February 16, 2012, 07:48:08
Good point ;)

Even if some of the addons were not directly developed by Menion, it would look for sure nice, if they were available in other languages too. For my part, i wouldn't mind supporting the addons by translating them.

Cheers, berkley
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: berkley on February 19, 2012, 07:42:15
In addition to my post above...

I played a bit with some addons. Seems they are well integrated into Locus. Also with some dialogs. It seems, that some phrases are already translated with some online translating service, which isn't always the best choice ;)

I really suggest to implement the addons into crowdin too. Either into Locus project or in their own project.

Cheers
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: John Doe on February 19, 2012, 10:09:35
Well... its free for the developers to decide where they would like their apps/addons to be translated, but I just thought that it would give some measure of continuity if it was the same translators that do the work.

Menion should invite the addons developers to crowdin...

Just my five cents...

hi Oiorokko. To be true, I already forget to look on your progress. Perfect, I'll put your translation to next version

I'll also write you some more info later. Hmm some global mail to all people who translate locus. Thanks to in-app billing and fact that all purchases are stored on my server, I can simply (not yet but soon) add you some items to your inventory. So expect bunch of megabytes for vector maps and probably some more later ;)

I see this thread has kind of trailed off.
Are you still in need of english translation?
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: Menion on December 29, 2012, 08:48:36
Hello fredf,
thank you for nice offer. With English is one big problem. As you for sure discovered, English is not my native language, but I'm using it in Locus as a primary, so other people may translate from English to other languages. And here is a problem. Crowdin web service, that we use for translation, do not allow to change any text in English translation without need to translate all other languages again. This mean that when I change one work in any English sentence, all (around 18 languages) have to translate this sentence again even if meaning remain same.

So I always welcome some corrections and if there are really bad issues, I'll gladly fix it. Anyway is needed to write me this here or by PM or by email, and I'll fix it by myself directly in application. But problem remain same, so really small problems, like missing dots etc, just leave be, because I don't want to disturb all people that helps with translations, to work again on same sentences ...
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: fredf on December 29, 2012, 23:38:11
I understand what a pain minor corrections would be. I definitely don´t want to create more work for you as you obviously already spend a huge amount of time improving Locus and communicating with users.

Could I be of use if you were to send me pages to correct before you submit them to more permanent references such as a wiki or KB? I could do a quick survey of the text, return it to you and then you could do with it what you want. I am thinkiing of not only grammer issues (by the way your English is very good) but also of ways to present material to novices, like me, that you might not notice since you are so familiar with Locus.

Don´t worry if you don´t see a place for me at this time. I am willing to help but I won´t feel hurt if I don´t. I am just glad to have found Locus as it is truly impressive and getting better by the day.

Fred
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: Menion on December 30, 2012, 08:29:23
fredf, if you really want to help with any translation, and I really appreciate it, I may send you file with English texts that are directly in Locus and you may check and fix worst grammar problems. I'll then choose some/all of them and fix them in Locus also.

About translation of wiki etc. I really do not want bother with this anyone. Main purpose is to provide some manual and I don't care too much if it's correct or not. Wiki is here http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php) so I hope, that if people they'll read it, find any crazy mistakes, they'll just fix it if they'll want. It's wiki, so everyone may edit it if wants. That's all ...
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: fredf on December 30, 2012, 22:50:21
Menion;
That sounds good to me; I'd love to help. Be aware that I am ignorant with coding issues so you will have to send me simple file formats. What I want to do is just improve the infrequent grammatical errors that are occasionaly confusing.
What about the Knowledge Base info also? I think it is a critical feature of Locus since the app itself is quite complex and I suspect most users have to turn to it more than a few times. The better the reference base you have the fewer questions you will have to answer.
Fred

Thank you for the prompt reply.
I've already created "strings.xml" in my PC and want to upload it by crowdin-cli command following the instruction found at "http://crowdin.net/page/cli-tool". Could you tell me where can I find the "project_identifier" for Locus? I could find only my "api_key".

Here is "crowdin.yaml" which I've prepared as a configuration file.
------------------------------
project_identifier: Locus
api_key: +++I've wrote my api_key+++
base_path: /home/ta-ka/work_crowdin

files:
  -
    source: '/res/values-ja/strings.xml'
    translation: '/res/values-%android_code%/%original_file_name%'
------------------------------
With this config, "crowdin-cli download" command gives an error message
"error: 1: Requested project does not exist".

Please add a new word for 'Show labels (Tracks)', for example 'Do not show', instead of using 'No', The Japanese translation here gives strange meaning but can not be changed the translation since 'No' is used somewhere else for proper meaning

It's a problem with VM

no but..
1st rule: make it as short as possible  ;)

2nd rule: see english word length in crowdin on top. which is mostly fine.

best way (for me) is. check new words in beta version.

Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: Menion on November 25, 2015, 06:35:26
Hmm you mean a problem that for example description of weather is split to four separated strings? This is done because of need to have better formatting of text, which is not possible with single string.

And question if this should be in manual or not - these texts are not manual on function. They are information for users about certain function. So they are short and easy to read and helps understand on what may be function used, nothing more.

I guess you will assign the first one for live tracking configulation. But it has been at least three years at crowdin (translated to Japanese not by me), it indicates that the 'recommended' is already used somewhere else for different purpuse. Or is this abandoned word and just stay remaind there? Please confirm and tell us?

Post by: ta-ka on January 28, 2016, 12:27:28
Could you please re-organize properly the usage of the texts 'Area' and 'Area coverage'?  As you can see in the images below, their usage in Locus are mixed up, 'Area' is used as mathematical area (1) and as subtitle (2), 'Area coverage' is also used as mathematical area (3) (4) and as description (5). It makes impossible to assign appropriate translation words (at least for Japanese).

My suggestion:
- 'Area' represents only for mathematical area like (1), (3) and (4).
- 'Area coverage' to be used only for map coverage area like (5).
- 'By area' to be created for subtitle of area selection method in (2).
- There might be another 'area...' somewhere in Locus?

Any other assignment would be OK, if its usage for mathematical area, subtitle and description are properly distinguished.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm Petr and Michal has some problems with notifications on new posts from this forum. Don't know ... is it working for anyone here? I'm looking and reading almost everything here, so I never needed an notifications. Anyway in case of Michal, I'm sure it won't be about "ignoring".

Btw. thanks for translation improvements.

Helptext for Navigation, Guiding+,  and Guiding Mode

Full turn-by-turn navigation with voice commands
means only "voice files" - without "TTS" ?

Simplified guidance with Text-to-speech notifications
only "TTS" - without "voice files" ?

Basic guidance along calculated route without notifications
"without notifications" means absolute silent.
so, without "out of route" or "distance to next point",...    -notifications ?

Hi @gynta,
ad a) meant both voice files and TTS
ad b) meant TTS only, NOT voice files
ad c) meant without notifications about direction changes - no direction change points are rendered

And I'm not ignoring you on purpose... just this forum somehow refuses to push notifications towards me (and Peter too)

I used latest pro version for navigation with brouter with german tts.
There is just one tts output which is strange:
"via pol nach xxx meter".
1) I can't find a text with the word "via" in the de.tts though the german word "nach" is spoken
2) The word "pol" should be "poi"
Please change the word pol to poi.

Yes, but such text does not make unfortunately sense. "Via after ..." - is this logical for everybody that it means "hey, you will pass transit point after X metres"? I think that it isn't.

The word 'SPECIAL' in the Share menu and in the line style menu comes from the same text in crowdin. It makes difficult to assign appropriate translation word.  Could you please separate them? My suggestion is to create a new context 'line_style_special' as same as for 'Basic' line style (line_style_basic). Thanks in advance.

hm - i can "fill" (edit point) with elevation data also in Free Version.
...but 'think we talk about autofill with "external" data - isn't  it?
So it's not clear with this description. What do you think?

- Please see first image. The phrase and context of uphill and downhill are confused at crowdin. Translated anyway ;)

- The phrase "Analyze..." (context: analyze) is shown while gpx/kml file analysis is actually going on when impoting. So, please don't reuse it for solid menu/title name of track analysis feature. Please add a new word dedicated for that.

- In the point basic info screen (see second image), the title of point's height is 'altitude' but it is 'elevation' in edit screen. Could you unify both of them with 'altitude'?

- When you add a new point with the same name of already existing point, the dialogue with the hint phrase "Press 'Ignore' to import with the same name anyway" is shown.  But user is adding new point, not importing.

- I've forwarded issue in "Wear" strings to @milan.cejnar , who take care about this add-on now.

- "Analyze" text, agree, sorry.

- Altitude" is correct naming in point detail, I'll fix it.

- and import dialog, hmm. Tiny detail I believe and not sure how simply I get information about "what happen" into this dialog. Will try it. (EDIT: we had changed it to 'Press \'Ignore\' to add with the same name anyway' which is more universal).

Hi gynta!
on new Android 8, all app notifications (in top system bar) have to be separated into categories. Check this screenshot how it looks now:

These categories has title (visible in screenshot) and also description if you click on it. It (may) is useful to allow only certain app notifications and it's only on developer how they divide these notifications. Clear?

Hello John, thanks for asking.
There is quite a lot of texts directly in the application. But in the knowledge base (docs.locusmap.eu)? It is HUGE :). We have a long time ago decided to stick with three, mainly used languages (well, Czech is not in the top three, but it is most easy for us to do it). So thanks, but I have to refuse.

I'm also checking stats, and in the case of Danish, we talk about 3k of active users in Denmark, which is very low compared to other countries.

Anyway, thanks!

Hello menion
in some new strings on crowdin are single "backslash"
e.g.

and it´s meaning is not clear for me...
do I have to pay attention to anything special in the translation ?

Hi balloni. This backslash needs to be always! before every special character (so-called "escaping").

Hello menion.

Could you maintain Locus store strings in crowdin? Some strings are missing in crowdin
and some strings appear untranslated or wrongly translated in Locus store (in Japanese).

Here is some examples:
Worldwide, Features, City, Ski and Piste, General, Transportation, Nautical, From XXX (L) / month, Point icons, Navigation icons, and etc...

I suggest to create a separate Locus store strings category in crowdin.
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: ta-ka on February 08, 2021, 17:16:24
Hello.

I would like to ask to create two new words in crowdin, "Visible" and "Hidden" for "Settings > Controlling > Panels & buttons". Currently they give wrong translation (in Japanese) because:
The word "Visible" has been used in the dashboard item and the meaning is gps satellites are in the sky.
The word "Hidden" has been used in geocache info screen and the meaning is the date when geocache was hidden.

P.S. Please also think about the request for locus store translations written in my previous post.
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: Menion on February 08, 2021, 20:30:42
Hello ta-ka,
thanks for the suggestions in the latest post. I've separated both "hidden" and "visible" words, thanks!

And I completely missed your previous post, sorry. It is more complicated as part of texts comes directly from @voldapet from the Locus Store and part is hardcoded in the app. We've currently created a separate project (https://crowdin.com/project/lopoints) for the new online LoPoints database and will probably soon do something similar for the web planner and also for the Locus Store.
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: ta-ka on February 12, 2021, 09:04:13
Thanks Menion.
I'll join LoPoints translation, and also web planner and Locus Store translation when they are ready.

I report some other translation related stuff.

1) The phrase "Waiting for GPS" which already exists in crowdin represents better meaning than "Initializing...".
2) Locus GIS uses the phrase "Primary colors" but Locus doesn't.
3) The word "Running" as a sports activity should be used only for that meaning. But it also appears in the notification message when locus is processing auto-backup job.
4) The phrase "Didn't find it" as a term of geocaching should be used only for that. But it also appears as a warning toast message if user custom icon file is missing while importing points.

Those phrases look no problem when using Locus in English but once they are translated into other language, they may look strange. It is happening in Japanese translation.
Title: Re: [TRANSLATION]
Post by: Menion on February 15, 2021, 14:27:05
Thanks ta-ka!

1) good point, improved
2) because Petr takes care of texts in Locus GIS and I'm just a "developer". He is not a big fan of old ZX Spectrum as I, so he wanted to use here different text :).
3) ah correct, changed to "Working..."
4) you are right. Oki, I'll add another string separated from the geocaching stuff

I'm trying to re-use as many texts as possible, to save some extra work for translators. Anyway, understand that in some languages, like in Japanese, it may cause problems. It is not a problem to add problematic texts later. So thanks!

As a Norwegian translator, it bothers me a bit that I can't find place in crowding where I can translate "POINTS" in the Locus Store. See attached screenshot. The word "points" in English can be translated to "POENG" in Norwegian, but this is a different meaning (such as a number of points that you get in a competition). Points in the meaning "spots" is called "Punkter" in Norwegian. It looks like this word is inside an image. Is this something you have done yourself using google translate? Is it possible to change it to "Punkter"?

The word "Visibility" shown in Settings > Points & tracks > Route warnings have strange meaning in translasion. It looks like the word is incorrectly taken from "visibility of color (transparency)". Hi, I was registered for Italian translations as lor74cas, it's been a while since I made any updates and today I wanted to check a translation that doesn't seem correct to me.
Unfortunately, after logging in, I am asked for the verification code with the authentication app, but I don't have any valid code generated by the authentication app.
I have not kept the recovery codes and my email is already registered with the lor74cas login, the magic link also requires the authentication code, so I can no longer log in.
Is there an alternative to creating an account with a different email?

Hi lor74cas,

there were some changes on the Crowdin side, but even our main account requires only code from the email. There isn't any alternative option except auth-app? I would expect some "Use another method" button, where your email should be used as an authenticator.
