Title: Navigation How to help?
Post by: axxeman on September 29, 2012, 18:55:00
Hello forum,

Try as I might, I cannot work out how to set start and end points for a driving navigation using type address.  I just get error 'address not found'.  I have used names, street, town and postcodes.  All get same error message.  Maybe I am just dumb but can anyone walk me through how to set routes and destinations in navigation for England?

Thanks.

Hi axxeman, welcome in Locus forum!
You are right, address search is not perfect. Usually I use <town> <street> <house number> which is o.k. in many cases but not always.
But there are other options to select the start and end points like pick on map or .
More details about this topic you can find here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:navigate_to (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:navigate_to)
Did it help?

Cheers,
Thomas

Not really.  I did read through that first.  Google maps recognises UK postcodes but Locus seems not to.  Find on map is difficult too because most places I go to are not known to me exactly (first time visit), so would take ages hunting around a street map of an unknown town or city.

O.k., another tip what I do in cases I know a location in Google maps:
- Install an app which is able to set a faked location like "Fake GPS".
- Share the location from Google Maps with "Fake GPS"
- Activate this location in Fake GPS
- Open Locus and center the map to current location
- Use this location as e.g. end point in Locus navigation

Sounds complicated but it's better to switch from Google Maps to Locus several times until you have found the location in Locus.
Is this o.k. for you?

Yeah, that does sound complicated.  I might return this unit after testing it last night as the GPS is painfully slow at getting a signal lock.  Might as well just get a cheap Sat Nav and forget the extras.  I'll persevere for a while longer but not feeling very positive right now...

Thanks.
