Title: Re-use a saved track for navigation
Post by: franc on July 17, 2012, 17:37:14
Yesterday I used the Locus navigation for the first time.
I searched some address as end point and started. After a while I closed the navigation and wanted to continue shortly later, but now I had to search again the complete address and navigation path (as end point) although the same navigation-path (track) was still saved in my tracks.
There are many possibilities for "end point" but I don't find to continue a track already saved.

Couldn't it be possible to open a track already found by locus for navigation again? To re-use the saved track?
I understand that this would be difficult if the actual postion weren't on the track, but then locus could warn or say: "Track not possible" etc.

This would be useful if there is no carrier, which can happen quite often when navigating on the road somewhere.

Thank you.

franc

maybe you forgot to tap the checkbox "Store permanently" before (while planning)

see the picture:

Quotemaybe you forgot to tap the checkbox "Store permanently" before (while planning)

But what does it help?
Yes, I check the CheckBox and then I have saved the track*, but not the navigation.
I cannot choose this same navigation from the box "ending point", can I?
How could I reuse it, especially when I am offline?

*by the way, the track is also saved when I don't check this CheckBox.

when you don't check this checkbox, every new track will overwrite previous one, so thanks to this, you may compute as much tracks as you need and keep them all stored

about navigation - you may start it when you tap on track and on your map screen appear new panel. Then under one bottom button exist "Navigation" item. Do you have it there? If no, I'll write manual page for it as soon as possible :)

Good heavens this is true!
Thank you, this is it!

EDIT 2013-05-03: The previous links to the screenshots were gone (like the service to save them, the dumb uploadscreenshot.com), so I restored the pictures from a backup (from ClipMate, the Clipboard extender, thank you).

Is it possible that it is not anymore possible to create a navigation through a saved track?
Look:
track-to-guide-only.png[/attachment:sexiq7ag]
There is only the option to guide, but no button for the navigation like before.
I think that there was another button before, unfortunately the screenshots in my previous post were gone because the dumb picture saving service stopped suddenly (uploadscreenshot.com).

EDIT: I found the screenshots in a backup, so I could again upload them. You can see, that it is different now.
Is it possible that this is just a setting? But which?
I uploaded the actual Screenshot now to this forum, I have no faith to all these free picture services anymore. They can disappear from one day to another :(

hello Franc,
  there are only two possibilities
1. you don't have enabled "Navigation" module, so check it in settings
2. track you see on map, cannot be used for a typical voice navigation. Because you do not see an icons with actions on crosses, I think this is a problem. Where did you get this track? Was it working you before for this track?

I understand! I think it was just a big misconseption from me to think any track could be used as navigation track.
This track was coming from GPSies, where I constructed it. It is not coming from Locus as a previous navigation, so this surely is why there is no way to use it as a navi path, I understand now.

Thank you for clearing this!

Hi franc,
at least a kind of restricted navigation can still be done with such a track: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual ... gs:guiding (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:settings:guiding)
Select
- Tracks/Notify when too far away from track
- Tracks/Text to speech

I used this successfully on bicycle and hiking tours though it needs some more polishing (see my comments in https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topic ... _your_ears (https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/guiding_with_your_ears) about 7-8 months ago). However it works best on tracks which contain only points where a change of direction needs to be indicated. In case you follow a straight way and the track contains points every few meters you will get many instructions of the kind "go straight".

@Menion: As I read of your next campaign regarding navigation, may I ask you not to forget to work also on this kind of navigation? Thx, Tommi.

So here the re-use of a track for navigation with some screenshots:

1. create a navi-track (three pictures, because this forum is limited to only two pictures upload):

locus-navi-track.jpg[/attachment:1mkngh2b]

2. re-use the navi-track later in a new navigation, which is started through the navi-track:

Hi,
I am fighting with the same problem:
I made a track with Locus, exported it and imported it again to Data/Navigation.
I select this track and I get these red points.
I made the same steps as above and as in http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/commun ... tion_start (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/community:navigation_start).
But I never get Navigation to select, only Guide on and Guide on reverse.
The module Navigation is of course activated.

Actually you didn't do the same, in the tutorial I never wrote about export/import, did I?
Seems, this isn't working for imported tracks.
Menion?
Will this be fixed in the (hopefully still ongoing) campaign for Navigation, Guiding?

I repeated this procedure with the same track but this time I used it direct from Data/Aufgezeichnet and I got the same result: no navigate, only guide.

Hi menion,
in the screenshot I miss CoPilot Live as my favorite navigation program (of course installed).
Do you limit this selection to 4 or can I do something?
Title: Re: Re-use a saved track for navigation

Ahm, Data/Aufgezeichnet? This sounds that you recorded a track with GPS? Is that true?
Maybe I'm asking stupid questions but initially you wrote "I made a track with Locus" which again sounds like you recorded one.
Did you check this page http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/commun ... e_creation (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/community:navigation_route_creation), too?

*edit*: Ah, I think I understand now: In the "Navigate to" tutorial (which was made by Gynta, not me, sorry I mixed it up with "Navigation start" by me) "Store permanently" isn't ticked. Due to recent changes in 2.12.0 this route doesn't persist as a temporary file. Therefore you need to tick "Store Permanently" in order to get the route stored in the database for later use.

Hey, tramp, this is completely ot! This forum is not only to help you but also for other people to follow discussions and problem solutions. Which is merely possible if topic is changed during discussion.

Nevertheless, I have more than 4 options. Maybe you find your Navi software behind "Maps".

Sorry, I really wanted to make a new topic :-(

And yes under Maps I ca see my Copilot. Thank you.

Yes.
It seems that I can use a recorded track only for Guiding. Is this true?

Yes, that's basically true.

The only thing you can do with a recorded track which goes into the direction of navigation was discussed here https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topic ... _your_ears (https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/guiding_with_your_ears) resp. https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topic ... directions (https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/topics/navigate_imported_track_with_turn_by_turn_voice_directions).
You can activate it as described on http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual ... gs:guiding (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:settings:guiding) Tracks/Notification settings/Notify when switching to another point.
But this is better for tracks with few points (mainly only points at locations where a change of direction is necessary) which you can draw with http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual ... te_measure (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:add_new_route_measure).
If you use it with a recorded track you'll get a lot of redundant notifications that you should go straight.

Thank you.
I made a test for a new route with http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:navigate_to (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manual:navigate_to)
and will try this tomorrow.

Gynta wrote:
5. Now choose the means of transportation, for example the bicycle. This will activate the route calculation. At this point you need to be online(!).

Do I have to be online (after calculating and storing) during the navigation?

Edit:
I found the answer on one of your texts:
For creation of a navigation route internet access is needed!
For navigation on a previously created navigation route no internet is needed

The TTS voice is terrible compared with Copilot or Navigon :-(

I know Navigon voice and would say it's slightly better than TTS on my SGS3.
However it might be that TTS on your phone is much worse.

I guess you're aware that this is a 2weeks demo for the language data. Or did I get this wrong - or you maybe already purchased it?

guys, switch to Ivona, really!! It's best voice I found after some tests. Hmm best ... it's amazing :)). It's quite huge (around 150MB compare to 20MB TTS by Google), but I'm mostly not sure if this is really TTS or some recorded navigation voice.
