I too, the OpenTopoMap however does load the tiles.

jusc, try to zoom out a little. These maps are only for USA, so check it there. Their server return stupid response and Locus recognize it as a problem in communication. There should be response like "not exist" from their server but it isn't :/

but! I read somewhere that they would like to increase their maps to whole world, so hope they'll be success because I think that these maps are very nice ..

OK, it works after I searched for a town in the USA.
Thank you for your advice.

Settings -> Navigation -> Compute source -> change the source to CloudeMade or Yours -> the MapQuestsettings should get disabled.
(because only MapQuest supports MapQuest Settings)
This only happens if you leave the navigation menu once.

Same if we change (eg from Yours) to MapQuest
- MapQuest settings remain locked, until you leave - and enter the navigation menu again.

Hi menion,
I found another bug(?) yesterday:
After starting locus v2.50 without doing anything (no GPS, no recording etc.) Locus caused a constant CPU load of 60-70%. Perhaps this the cause for the zooming problem from here
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2112 (http://forum.locusmap.eu/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2112).

As I cannot live with these problems and this GPS bug viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2103#p13574 (http://forum.locusmap.eu/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2103#p13574)
I went back (thanks to Titanium Backup) to v2.4.3 and CPU load is at 10-15 % again and the  zooming is ok too.

hi menion,
only a optical problem.
I was downloading online tiles and pressed the home button to look at another program.
After returning to the Locus download screen I get this on the second picture:

Edit: Another one at the first picture: the word "können" is missing at "Sie ... den Download morgen fortsetzen".

yes I know about it, android have some problems when some settings are in different sub-category.

Public testing version valid till 15.7.2012

- hopefully fixed issue with CPU overload on devices with Android below 3.0
- added new settings to disable (enabled by default) automatic zoom-lock
- some other small fixes (loading of Pocket Queries, some map rendering issues)

A short report for this version:

Installed it:
CPULoad normal, frequency goes down like expected (tried with offline vector maps).
But I couldn't open my RMAPS, which are in a custom directory (Storage CardTwoNavDAtaMaps). Tried to add this folder via Setting - Misc - Folder with Maps ... but either Locus doesn't recognize the Maps or crashes trying to recognize them.
In my actual LocusPro-Version this problem doesn't exist.

Offtopic: How do I use this Track-Widget which is in the Pro version, couldn't find it for my homescreen.

Hi,
these maps was already working in Locus for you??

to add widget, you have to have installed Locus in internal memory
Title: Re: [APP] - version 2.5.X
Post by: nIgel on July 02, 2012, 21:35:51
Yes the maps are working in LocusPro, but I couldn't get the version you provided here to read them. Will wait for the next official update.

Offtopic: Locus pro is installed on SD. Lets see if moving  it to my very limited internal memory will get that track-feature started.

ah oki understand.

So,
1. I had to do some small changes in one my cached file, so next version will quickly rescan maps and RMAP will work again (I hope :) )
2. Xperia mini - understand. Unfortunately I can do nothing with this. Application have to be installed in memory to make widget working

New version has solved my problems.
RMAPS are working, CPU usage is down to 10% if only map is shown and not moved.
Thanks!

you're welcome. Only what's weird for me is that 10%. If you disable GPS and not using any active processes (live tracking, parking ...), there should be really 0% usage because I'm trying to sleep everything when there is no activity

It may be Locus or another app respectively process which causes the CPU load.
I use the app CPU memory monitor for such kind of investigation.

Don't worry, that seems to be my error. I tested it with Locus searching for satellites. With Satfix and indoor it shows different values:
CPU between 3% and 100%, depending whether the map has to move or not (big RMAP [1,3GB]).
With GPS off and Mapscreen it goes down to 3% or 4% almost the same as without Locus started. That could be the CPUload of CoolTool and Tasker or the SE BackgroundLightManagement, which are running background. I use CoolTool which measures the whole systemload but does not differentiate between the processes.

ah perfect. When you discover some strange CPU usage, let me immediately know. There should not be any such usage .. Locus should just silently lay when not actively usage. Battery efficiency is my priority :) (except previous version :D )

I think the 10% is the CPU load of the whole system and this is a very good value (with and without Locus).

Besides that: I tested Locus today on a 5 hours MTB trip: all perfect now :-)

Could you check automatic loading map feature? I think it doesn't work in version 2.5.1.
I have two maps placed next to each other, and when I shift one of them to another, the another doesn't show.
Of course I have automatic map loading option on.
Thanks.

This never worked for me: Outdooractive maps for Germany and Austria do not switch to the other when I come to the other country.

Only if I have several maps of the same region with different zoom factors each.

thanks for report Gynta, as usually. Seems like crash issue is some problem with google library. They released new version few weeks ago, so I'll update this lib in locus and we'll see. Hope there will not be more troubles then usage. I don't like these updates ... :)

EDIT: and guys, problems with auto-loading are discuss just on GetSatisfcation but should be fixed now. So wait please till next version 2.5.2 that will come probably at start of next week ...

oki, I'll check it more carefully.

about backward compatibility - I use on some places (like here) one stupid system that I created and thanks to this, new changes are more complicated and usually leads to backward incompatibility. Anyway I just rewrote it so since next version will be no problem to add new features into this live-tracking and also keep it working also on older versions.

everything is possible, question is how to simply create ... I mean how to integrate such feature into current GUI. For this, there should be best, when you tap on back button on main screen and live tracking will be active, there should be dialog as is for example for navigation ... "Close? Yes/No/Minimize and small checkbox below with "Auto-start next time". What you mean? Problem should be only when you have running more services like POI alert, Parking and Live tracking, then how to make such dialog clear and simple ... :) but as I wrote everything is possible ...

I was thinking maybe a checkbox in the settings for the live tracking (together with the parameters) to switch on auto-start. If Locus starts it just needs to check if one of the live-tracking settings has auto-start enabled. But maybe that is a problem if it can be enabled for more than one.

LocusPro of version 2.5.2 and 2.5.3 incorrectly displays the track line on the offline maps for TrekBuddy (Compass)
It moved south about 7 km. :!:
GPS location is shown correctly.

On other maps (SHOCart, vector), everything works fine.

In version 2.5.1 - everything is OK also for TrekBuddy maps.

Hi!

just updated my version and had some issue with livetracking

Quotelive tracking:

 - added ability to define min. distance

It seems that Min. distance 0 is invalid. I would like to send my position every x seconds regardless if i have moved or not. Could you please rewrite that feature so that "zero distance - if not zero time" and the other way round is possible?

Also it would be nice as the other postings already state if one could start recording and livetracking on program start, your idea with the exit screen question sounds not so bad for the UI for this

keep up the good work!

After some time, I would like to ask for more wide public testing. I would like to know opinion on changes that are now in Locus testing version. It's also good place for users that use "only" a Free version to test, till end of month, some features of Pro version!!

Important: mainly please use and check import/export feature. That's where I did most of work. Also is added support for NetworkLink and ScreenOverlays!!, but I don't have any good testing files, so if some files will not work, I will gladly test and fix it!

complete list of changes
----------------------------
- added ability to ignore generated descriptions for export
- now also export defined styles of tracks to KML
- added ability to export to KMZ files together with icons for points
- "integration" of Google Earth (ability to view track/point/points, together with icons and styles)
- improvements in GC Offlinizer (usage of Live API, notification)
- speed up a little handling with a lots of Field notes
- correct enabling/disabling animations by system settings
- on A3.0+, custom zoom buttons in WebView screens (Geocaching listing)
- completely removed Data Manager!
- changes in behavior of main menu
- added "Import" function to list of functions
- added GCC (Paid) to list of supported apps
- improved ordering of items in dragable screens
- speed improvements in Point rendering (around 5% less CPU usage)
- huge improvements in KML import. Support for GroundOverlays with refreshable images from internet, ScreenOverlays, Network links!
- fixed some problems with export of KML (together with icons)
- completely recreated importing system, so now import options are also at categories (integrated import/export buttons into points/tracks screen), "Display only" button is later in screen with selection
- fixed problems with OpenAir format loading
- fixed problems with loading tracks from My Tracks
- some design improvements like smaller blue headers, better dialog handling during rotate etc.
- file browser now allow "Don't ask"
- added batch logging of caches (from stored field notes)
- improved system for downloading maps that need paid credit
- introduced new system for selecting pre-prepared areas for SmartMaps download
- fixed small issues in NMEA parser
- fixed issues with incorrect map center and zoom after some imports
- added "delete_aiding_data" to reset of A-GPS data
- download button directly in shop for vector map download
- fixed issues with heading line and "true north" (hope that finally)
- added Guide to button

version for download

Just a feedback about the new missing data manager(the other new features I didn't use enough to build an opinion).
I like the new way better, access to data and other features by oneclick like in the new one is easier.

I did some geocaching today. Nothing seems to be broken :)

Import (from URL) works OK.

Fieldnotes seem to be faster (I don't have as many of them as before). But I couldn't find "batch logging"?

I played with the top menu buttons. 4 buttons seem a bit crowded in ZTE Blade. I chose the category list as one button. It opens the points category list, but it has toolbox icons at the right. Would it be possible to have a top menu button that opens the list with selection boxes at the right side?

In addition I discovered a lot of new (for me) stuff, like lock everything in portrait. Well done!

thanks guys and stebu for testing!

in list of possibilities are "Points" twice ... one new that lead to points screen and one old that's purpose was quick switching on/off of categories.

Hi menion,
I found a little bug (but I don´t know if it is in the 2.5.6 too):
I want to "save  actual part" of a paused track and give a name to the track, but Locus changes after typing each letter back to capitals.
It happens only here, the normal way after stopping the track is ok.

And another one:
Today I looked several times during a track on the display (2.5.6.3) and almost every time there was the last part (perhaps 15 min) of track not painted. The actual position was ok. Some times the missing part was repainted but not always.
This never occured before.

All right, found the "function" instead of the "screen" :)

But I haven't found batch logging of fieldnotes, yet?

try batch log field notes from Geocaching Live API as usually. There is new settings if you want send these field notes just as field notes or as a regular logs

For a future version, is it possible to change the option to change the update interval of GPS (time in seconds for a new position) to be able to 1 second instead of 10 seconds by default ?
10 seconds too, GPS renews its position throughout the second.
I use a BT GPS so there is no consumption of the GPS on my smartphone.
Thank you.

Hi,
I have Locus Pro on my GalaxySand it's perfect for many of my usages. (Bike with OSM, Hiking, Follow a gpx, ...)
I would like to use it as a 'Spot' system: Send my position to my family every hours.
I found the sample of live tracking with google docs, and it works fine. It's exactly what I want. But actually, for big interval (30 min - 1h), the GPS seems to be still active (with the locus app minimized). It's too much battery consumed.
Is there a way to do:
0H: GPS disabled.
1H: Point to send, GPS awake
1Hxx: Till the GPS signal not acquired, GPS online
1Hxx: GPS disabled
2H: Point to send, GPS awake
2Hxx: Till the GPS signal not acquired, GPS online
2Hxx: GPS disabled
....

Hi Crozet,
best is to check Gps auto-off feature. Check menu > settings > GPS and at bottom is it. You have to combine GPS turn on/off every hour and sending point for example every minute with some distance differnce, so only a new point coordinates (that will come once a hour) will be send

Ok, many settings I didn't noticed. It seems to be the result I want.
I will test it and check the battery consumption (It's for  2-day hike).
Thanks;

Hi menion,
my third try :-(
Please fix this little bug from here
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2110&start=60#p15229 (http://forum.locusmap.eu/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2110&start=60#p15229)

before you release the next version. The bug is in 2.5.6.14 too.

damn ... tommi, I again forget on this so it's no fixed now. I'm going to check it now ...

anyway mainly - if someone have time, please play a little with this test version https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8015949/Locus% ... 5%20RC.apk (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8015949/Locus%20%28dev%29/test_versions/2.5.6.15%20RC.apk) . It's a release candidate and I would like to release it tomorrow or in friday. There were quite a lot of changes and I'm sure, I'll have to release next version during a week with some fixes, but the biggest bugs should be discovered now, rather then after release. Thanks all and nice evening!

Map manager is ok now and the partial track save too :-)

In the test version the little window with the "valid till" message is hard to read because it is too short displayed.
