Title: Record a Coaster ride?
Post by: gynta on March 31, 2012, 12:26:59
Is it possible to record a track from a coaster ride?
I think the result will be unsatisfactory.
Also a downhill skiing or MBtrack.
The GPS signal be inadequate and the HW is not exactly enough.
What u think guys? Has anyone tried?

I have tried the downhill skiing, but there are only a few points. I think you would get some results with recording to NMEA log and then converting the data in some tool, otherwise you would have to disable the filters, set minimum distances between points time&distance wise. Also, I don't think you would get satisfactory results in Z axis (e.g. displaying the loop) and the granularity would be at least 1s.

Ah, my misunderstanding, I thought you were shortening the roller-coaster.

Anyway, here is the screenshot of the recorded track of some skiing (short ski slope, ~400m H, ~100m V, speed at most 50km/h).

Hmm. I would not be interested in the altitude plot. but in the horizontal.
I can set Locus to record at once per second, then I can walk the 150 meters to my mailbox, and generate a usable track. Or I can jump in my car, and drive at 120 km/hr to the store, and generate a usable track. So if the coaster ride is 2.8 km as stated, and the maximum speed is 42 km/hr, why couldn't I generate a usable track for that?
Unless you are implying gynta, that in the mountains, that the gps accuracy is so degraded as to make the data useless.

The accuracy is the same as in the city.
But that's not good enough :)

Here is my prophecy...
(as an example)

Last month I recorded every ski-ing day, quite satisfactory. My recording profile settings were: 100 meter or 60 seconds, giving me for exemple nicely 480 points over a total of 47 kilometers in 4 hours and 26 minutes (including lifts).

Matthias! Not only you spam my notification bar (and also to around 15 other people who share same directory) in windows with "File xxx was added to your Dropbox" just by coping same directory from one place to another (probably wrong auto-sync so fix it please!), but you're also spamming forum with not working links

c'mon ... I know it's Spring, but ... :)

Menion! Off-topic warning!!! ;)
Wrong auto-sync was already fixed yesterday evening...
But you're right... probably I am getting too old for these new technologies...

And link to AntiMap is working fine ;)

OK offtopic I know, sorry ... but no matter which browser I use, antimap not work, nevermind ...

(anyway please delete directory you don't need - probably whole "2.1.1.x")
