Title: Help me getting a new GPS receiver
Post by: berkley on February 08, 2012, 10:37:25
Hello everybody,

unfortunatly my bluetooth gps receiver isn't working anymore. So i thought, I start some topic to ask you guys, which receivers you use and why? Maybe you can give me some hints to get a new one?

As far as I can see, the most differences between the gps receivers are the chips they use. There is

Which is best? :D

Cheers, berkley

Just to let you know... I went for a MTK II from Qstarz. Locus shows accurancy of 0,8 to 1,1 meters... :D

for the records:

sirf III is completely outdated and best to be avoided.

U-Blox 5 is probably the best chip now, closely follwed by MTK II

(Antaris is the outdated grandfather of U-Blox 5)

It pays to have a good chip, you won't believe *how* much...

Dual XGPS-150 works with my Google/Asus Nexus 7 tablet and Locus, without needing "helper app". However, with the external GPS there is no "accuracy circle", no "line to GPS", and no "course bearing line". With its internal GPS these features work fine.
