Title: TODO list
Post by: Menion on January 04, 2012, 16:36:50
UPDATE 16.1.

still thinking and trying to find best solution :), so, if you'll have some time, check

UserVoices - http://locusmap.uservoice.com/ (http://locusmap.uservoice.com/)
GetSatisfaction - http://getsatisfaction.com/locus (http://getsatisfaction.com/locus)

also examples full of data

UserVoices (Swiftkey) - http://support.swiftkey.net/ (http://support.swiftkey.net/)
GetSatisfaction (Mozilla) - http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging (http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging)

I personally do not know ... weird :). Every system has it's own, anyway after playing with it for some time, UserVoices with more then one forum (one for wishlist, one for issues, ...) together with helpdesk (currently only one topic on navigation - voices) seems like best solution for me. Specialized discussion will remain here on forum, hmm?

Thanks for time and feedbacks!!

Hey,

why don't you simple make a new category here in the forum. Call it "My To Do List". Give this subforum the attitudes, that only the Admin (=you) can open new threads. Make a thread for every topic on your paper list. Every other user can answer on these topics and rate them with the 'star' function.

It's simple, isn't it? ;)

Cheers

Post by: Menion on January 04, 2012, 16:52:38
hmm working but not exactly what I want ... stars system is really terrible (small, almost invisible stars), no sorting, no priorities, no possibility to display on first sight something like "Never", "Later", "OMG", "Sure, I'll do it" :)

Post by: berkley on January 04, 2012, 16:56:46
Are you looking for a solution in the existing forum?

I guess you don't want all users going to another site, register there new, just to rate whats on your mind?

If you want to stay (recommended) with this system, you should have a look here:

hmm, this is problem I know ... solution within this phpBB forum should be absolutely amazing! but not sure if exist (because even if I searched, I didn't find anything usable). Anyway some external simple web with this TODO list should work also, what you think? I just don't want to shift discussion to another place, I just want some nice list of ideas when everyone can add points (stars, rate) to whatever they feel, that's needed ... that's all ...

anyway, just idea, nothing serious. Current system works

The phpBB 'thanks for posts' mod will allow us to give feedback to you (and other posts)
//http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/thanks_for_posts/

It may be obvious but you do know that phpBB allows you to create a poll?

I know about poll, anyway I had no idea about this "thanks" plugin ... after a while of fight with phpBB (as usually), seems to work ... look nice, we'll see, if it's useful ...

Noooooooooooooooo, please, don't use Uservoice.  It's so limiting, at least in my experience.  Every time I look at something in uservoice, I have 5-10 votes which means I either give away all of my votes on just a few things and can't do anything else until those are implemented or removed, or you give it a few votes across a bunch of stuff which also doesn't really give a very good indication of how interesting the features are.

Maybe it'll be fine if you give people a large number of votes, not sure what the number is..  Most I've seen is 10, others, 5.  You can basically say "I really want two things" with that, and that's it.
Title: Re: TODO list
Post by: Menion on January 05, 2012, 15:10:42
you're correct that it is disadvantage ...

but as I look on it, it looks really nice. Also I react quite fast so if any idea will be to complicated, I'll just decline it and you receive points back. Also there is possibility to set more then 10 points, so this should be also a solution ...

hmm testing site here http://locusmap.uservoice.com (http://locusmap.uservoice.com) ... who knows :)

Thanks Tom,
let's try uservoice, just between us. I have there 30 days free testing account so if this will works, I'll make that site public

hope you agree. I'm sometimes really little bit confused in a lot of ideas and wishes, and you probably also. On uservoice looks mainly nice, that you'll be immediately notified when something on wish have change, I also see what is most wanted etc etc ...

From my sight of view, this forum should be best for sharing ideas and discuss about some interesting topic, solving troubles and so on. Uservoices, seems to be nice for quick and easy share of new ideas and wished.

I also don't know, if there is still a lot of place for new ideas, but I hope there is :))

hmm really nice idea gynta :D

problem was probably that you can vote even if not log in right? Ok, disabled ...

EIDT: ah, I'm stupid ... finally I understand what you mean by your "wish" on uservotes :D ... heh

Hmmm... there may be a flaw.

Users may have many accounts(google, facebook), I have many accounts too.
So we may be able to spam the votes.

Just a naughty idea though lol. :P

you dont need accounts. Any fake email-address and every nickname is accepted.
The voting results are not so representativ.

don't worry about it ... I see at every item from what email vote comes, so if at any item will be a lot of weird emails .. :)

I'll try to play a little with it and after week or two will see. Looks like nice tool that may help work with many nice (and sometimes already lost) ideas ...

"UserVoice" is free ? Maybe this guy's collecting email addresses?
spam, spam & more spam in my mailbox :|
but of course - we can test it  :)

free is only some basic, not much usable plan or first 30 days for testing. Then it's payed ... but not much

damn it's good system ...

I also enabled some "Helpdesk" system so all together is here http://locusmap.uservoice.com/ (http://locusmap.uservoice.com/)

it allow create some small help topics, simple search in them, perfect admin area for some reported issue etc ... nice nice :). Seems like very good system that should help get more in touch with basic users who are confused with enormous number of informations here on forum. So please guys, may you post new ideas and vote for old just there? I have still around 25 days of trial account there, so I would like to test it a little bit, thanks all!

For you personally. Instead of hundreds of your stickie notes on your desk, you can also use the following nice tool:
see a screenshot (//http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/images/5/5c/FreeMind-freemind-development-080.png) from the Sourceforge.Project (//http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page)
I use it and I'm happy with it. So I never forget what I have to do - in a project.

I think if you really want to test this during January you need to bring it more to the users attention..
Perhaps also mention it in the market etc..
there are a lot of people that don't use the forum and the ones that do might miss this topic so don't know about the existence of the UserVoice page..

For your info UserVoice is being used by CyanongenMod to request features or providing ideas and feedback for CM9's launcher, Trebuchet for Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich (Ice Cream Sandwich)

thanks ...

hmm, I'm still thinking how to do it best ...

I'm little worried that using uservoice will separate communication between forum and uservoice and this will create complete mess. I'm trying improve current system here on forum to be more "user-friendly". Started by Wishlist, separating topics "in progress" to some subcategories ... this should work fine I think. Only main think that I miss is some voting system like on uservoice. This is excellent tool to help determine which topic should have priority.

Hope you're not too much frustrated from my experiments :)

I think it's cool that you're interested in what the user wants and to know exactly which features are important to the most users.
It's normal you play around a bit with systems, we'll play along :)

facebook, twitter, usergroup, website, forum, uservoice,...
too much.
website is nice (very nice), but i never use this site.
I think uservoice will suffer the same fate.

btw.

Title: Re: TODO list
Post by: Menion on January 14, 2012, 13:48:03
I'm quite confuse ...

current solution: I'm not quite satisfied with this
  main disadvantages I see:
   - I do not see priority of wishes and issues
   - I cannot simply set if topic is solved etc...
   - you cannot simply tracks which bugs are fixed and which not
   - also whole forum thanks to a lot of topics is going to be little bit .. confusing

so I think that another solution is really need.

During today more then one day search I ...

uservoice
 - is not a good idea. Only usable as wishlish, too expensive, no simply possibility to add another moderator (same price as for new forum)

zoho - https://discussions.zoho.com/locus#Home (https://discussions.zoho.com/locus#Home)
  - alternative to this phpBB forum ... seems like more intuitive and much easy to use. Can handle all ... issue tracker, wishlish, questions and discussions. On second side, it do not have too much possibilities, with lot of topics should be also confusing

GetSatisfaction - http://getsatisfaction.com/locus (http://getsatisfaction.com/locus)
  - as I search, probably my favorite. Seems to have all necessary stuff, allow good administration, searching, possibility to "rate" topic, been notified when something change, etc ...

so what you think? any other tips?

I just think that some better system should be welcome, not just for new users but also for you. Something like you post some new request, other may rate it, when I see that a lot of people want this, I'll do it and you'll be notified about progress ...

You asked "so what you think? any other tips?"
This interesting post by Roman Nurik is about Improving App Quality
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/ ... ality.html (http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/10/improving-app-quality.html)
He mentions that "there are some great support tools out there that can put you in touch with your users directly such as Google Groups, Zoho Discussions, getsatisfaction.com and uservoice.com."
My request would be to make sure that RSS and Tapatalk are supported.  Preferably all in the same site. What was wrong with the Thanks button?  It makes it easy to support suggestions.
Cheers
Tom
Title: Re: TODO list
Post by: Menion on January 17, 2012, 06:40:06
hmm seems I discovered all suggested tools, fine ...

problem with Thanks button was that if was not displayed in other, then default skin. And when I played with this addon a little, it always corrupted complete database of phpBB and then almost nothing works correctly ... so rather this skin then Thanks button

also problem for me is with this forum itself. Imagine some really basic user with not much experience of such forums (I think at least 75% of users). When he comes here, he have to be confused from a lot of topic and not-well sorted informations. Also need for registration in these days ... hmm. GetSatisfaction (or UserVoice) simply display relevant topic when you write question so you don't need to write it again if question is already there. I can simply set topic as solved or planned and you'll be notified about it and more and more. I'll keep this forum for communication with you all, for solving more complicated topics but for basic users, I would really prefer something others ...

I see it also on email support. There is around 10 or more emails per day and many of them asks on same questions. I believe then this number will be reduced when there will be some quality knowledge base ... at least I hope :)

Hi there,

as i played around a bit with getsatisfaction, I could live with that solution. Accidentaly I stumbled over http://moodle.org/ (http://moodle.org/) which is supposed to be an open source learning system for schools. There are some modules available which can turn this system in something similar to what you are looking for. There is a nice demo site available http://demo.moodle.net/ (http://demo.moodle.net/)
Maybe it is a cheaper alternative to getsatisfaction. But it has to be set up correctly. Which costs some time...

Cheers, berkley
