Title: Confused about offline maps and storage location
Post by: sammysmith on June 03, 2026, 09:38:57
Hi everyone,

I'm completely new to Locus Map and still trying to understand how everything works. I installed it mainly for hiking and offline navigation, but I'm a bit confused about maps and storage.

I downloaded a few offline maps for testing and noticed they started taking up quite a bit of space. I'm not sure if I'm setting things up correctly. Is there a recommended way to store maps, especially if using an SD card? Also, does moving map data later cause any problems?                                                  wheelie life (https://wheelielife.io/)

I feel like I may be missing some basic setup steps that experienced users already know.

Any tips for a beginner would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
storage space that every map needs can't be easily reduced. There is nothing I can suggest except the logical removal of maps that you no longer need.

If you want to have directory with maps on the SD card. It is doable, check the docs here (https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php/manual:user_guide:settings:backup_fsys#set_custom_sub-directories).

Hope this helps at least a little bit.
