Title: No update warning Locus classic
Post by: joop on May 18, 2026, 06:33:04
I'm using locus classic since many years and really happy with it. Yesterday we did a hike on Ischia and I discovered the hard way that the map was not up to date, actually from 2018. I did not get any warning to update the map and had to pay again for the new one. Is this the way it works?
Regards Joop

Hello joop,

Locus Classic should inform about new maps once per month via the internal notify centre (if I remember correctly).

Anyway, I have to point on latest blog post regarding the Classic future here (https://www.locusmap.app/support-for-locus-classic-extended-and-how-to-proceed/).

I know about the status of Locus Classic, still this is an issue that apparently exists much longer. My Italy South map was from 2018, no warning for updates.
Can you answer on the question why I had to pay the update?
I understand that support Locus Classic is to end 2026
Regards
Joop

Why have to pay for map updates? This is not new. We were always publishing maps as a one-time purchase and every update was another separate purchase.

Small tip: you can delete your map and re-download it. With this, you have just a few years (probably 3) old map, and not 8.

The issue is, I do not see these maps in my account, so I cannot download them.

I realized that it has to do with a crash I had 2 years ago. Did reinstall Locus with a different Email adres, moving away from Google. Support Locus did help me well, so now I can find all my purchases using both accounts. So, for who it may concern, watch your E-Mail Accounts!

Please continue the good work, I will consider to upgrade,
Cheers, Joop

Ah oki, perfect. Change of the account was a big problem for a decade. This is finally also covered, so it is possible to change the email login address without any data loss.
