19. 6. 2025 - Locus Map 4.30.0 (5% of users at 19. 6.)
The last two months were full of bigger changes. Thanks to all for the big help.
I'm ready to fine-tune some details next week. No bigger changes are planned for now.
Thank you very much! Everything looks good for now and two or three little things from the last beta have been fixed.
One question, (still with the setting "Centre on pioint" OFF): Global search for a location outside the screen, the red direction marker appears.
I click on it and now always have two identical entries in the "Select element" menu in 4.30.0. Both can be clicked and move the map there. See screenshot 1. Before there were at least two entries with different icons and only the one with the small square could be clicked. Screeshot 2.
In general, I wonder why the map does not immediately move to the location when I click on the red direction marker. The select element list with two identical entries is an unnecessary intermediate step. What is it for?
(I know that if two or more LoPoints are very close together on the map and I click on them, the "choose element" menu also appears, but then of course there are different entries in it and the list makes sense. But that's a different use case.)
I don't know if it's because of the new version or the latest LoMaps update. In any case, street names are no longer assigned to shaping points in the route planner, and when saving the route, the title is no longer entered ("Untitled").

I had similar experience in 4.29. Tapping one search item was ignored, tapping 2nd panned the map. Confusing.
Wow - the release notes are a small book - huge effort!
Hmmm, I guess the new LoPoint needs some basic love.
see pics, made with 4.29.0.14, but still same with 4.30.0
- only new LoPoint enabled, only 1 category 'food & drink'. AFAIK those are online.
- beside the enabled category also a bunch of other poi-symbols get shown/drawn. They are without the rectanglular-icon-style, but old-school-style.
- if I select one of those it gets the rectangular-style for the time of selection
- ANY selected poi does not get highlighted in any way, maybe orange or neon-green rectangular frame, bigger size, only its item-details pop up
- selecting and switching between those additional (not enabled) poi takes some time, maybe 6 seconds, until the map-drawing gets updated, basic item-details are shown instantly. Maybe it's due some online-loading, parsing, checking for picture, whatever

Okay, that's sorted. A few days ago, I updated all my LoMaps using the new mass update function. Since then, the addresses/street names had disappeared.
Now I've downloaded all the maps again individually and now I have three files per country/region: *osm.maps, *.osm.db and *poi2.db
I think the osm.db files were missing before.
In any case, the addresses are now back.
No idea what happened there.

New LoPoints > I believe the profit of the change is quite big. No difference in online/offline work. A lot richer content of POIs, full compatibility of offline and online, better placement on the map and for use - very easy to modify both worlds at once.
Db documentation and support for 3rd parties > no, not planned and definitely not recommended. New system is a lot more complicated than the previous and we need to keep compatibility with the online and iOS world. That's why "Other POIs" will exist and will still be well supported.
well it's a db and therefore not more complicated as it is by itself.
No doubt it makes sense to unite online and offline if different and grown structures have been in use.
It also makes sense to use a consistent structure if data of different sources get used, parsed, loaded, combined, and processed, and shown in a consistent way. If the community and userbase will bring additional content, like e.g. it is with Komoot, the more important this is, sure.
Well, noone expects a full db-documentation, plain information can be dropped at a dedicated github-page without big efforts as you know.
Even the same GUI-part, category-filter, mechanism could generally be used, though be separated to distinguish and better identify problems due to external database-files (offline), just in case. And back-loading of those can also generally be disabled to never bring those online, if building a LM-driven database is the goal.
I personally tried the old but now preserved LoPoint-part from time to time but decided not to use it consistently as it never was a satisfying experience, category ui in early design-state, poi loading awkward, search pois puh.., poi difficult to distinguish from the background, too small size and too small frame and no features like temporary switch map to bw, etc. It was a start.
Well, I suggest to rethink your view and to support with informations about the changed db-structure, consider 3rd-party sources like e.g. OAM, in my opinion this might better preserve community support and bring a better and more satisfying Locus-experience at all.
OAM POIs come from the same source as LoPoi. Why would anyone use the OAM ?
And thanks to the online poi we are always much more up to date than oam
I have nothing against documentation, but the effort should be kept to a minimum. There are much more important things to do.
@Graf Geo
click on "pointer" > thanks. Issue is that there are two pointers at once, not by intent. I'm looking at it.
missing names of shaping points > weird. Data are taken from the offline address database (part of LoMaps). Have you downloaded the latest LoMap? Which region? ... ah now I see your second post. Yes, all three files are necessary now.
@T-mo
complicated topic. Firstly, I believe that the best place where the community may invest time is OpenStreetMap itself. Then the whole world benefits.
Anyway, I still do not see a problem. The existing V1 solution ("Other POIs") exists and will exist in the future. For OAM and other communities is no need to switch to a different system. If you are interested, simply check the database structure and compare V1 and V2 files and you will see a big difference.
What are the major problems you see in the latest 4.30 version?
- not clearly visible active highlighted point > confirm, I will have to do something with it
- 6 seconds delay when loading a point? Online request is in worst case around 500ms, local offline max. 200ms. So maybe a problem with the internet connection?
- and among these two issues?

I think we don't know when/how often ASAMM updates the database.
@Menion, if search is set to Offline Places, it requires 3 actions to leave the search, not ideal. I understand where it's coming from historically, but maybe you can react differently depending from where the search has been initiated.

Great work on the lopoints visible on the map. Could this be included in the presets too?
@menion - Regards bulk update of LoMaps - attached #1 - "congrats all your maps are up to date" - WRONG - at the time of message the updates haven't even been downloaded - next step @ attached #2. Does the wording need improvement?
Hi Menion. The new, highlighted display of selected categories of Lopoints is very nice. But it obstructs a little on the screen while passing through the city by bike. Would it be possible to add the new "View/Hide Lopoints" button to the side bar buttons? Or is there any other way to Hide/Zpbrazoit all the Lopoints quickly by one click?
@menion - I think there was a change of default folder when doing a Move or Copy function? Instead of the default home/ root folder, the default is the current folder right? Excellent change.
I got several observations about the new LoPoints:
- They still don't work with offline raster maps. I mentioned this before, don't remember if there was a reason, but it's inconvenient and confusing - if this is technically not possible, Locus should at least display a message when activating LoPoints over a map which doesn't support it.
- Worse, when I switch back from raster map to other map with LoPoints on, they still don't appear. I have to zoom in or out (sometimes multiple times) to "trigger" display.
- The highlighted icons have an un-intuitive "tap point": You have to click on the tip of the arrow. But the intuitive thing is to tap the icon itself. When several icons overlap each other and I tap on the top-most, I instead select some half-hidden one in the background. Same applies for moving the center cross over some point - I can be slap-dap in the middle of a "food & drinks" icon and a box pops up saying "guidepost" (which is not even a highlighted category).
There is a problem with new LoPoints "Search in categories".
If app language is set to german i noticed duplicated entries see attached german.jpg
After changing app lanuage to english there are still entries in german see attached english.jpg

are you using the latest beta? I reported similar issue with magnification not taken into account. But yes, still a few loose ends.
