The last two months were full of bigger changes. Thanks to all for the big help.
I'm ready to fine-tune some details next week. No bigger changes are planned for now.
Thank you very much! Everything looks good for now and two or three little things from the last beta have been fixed.
One question, (still with the setting "Centre on pioint" OFF): Global search for a location outside the screen, the red direction marker appears.
I click on it and now always have two identical entries in the "Select element" menu in 4.30.0. Both can be clicked and move the map there. See screenshot 1. Before there were at least two entries with different icons and only the one with the small square could be clicked. Screeshot 2.
In general, I wonder why the map does not immediately move to the location when I click on the red direction marker. The select element list with two identical entries is an unnecessary intermediate step. What is it for?
(I know that if two or more LoPoints are very close together on the map and I click on them, the "choose element" menu also appears, but then of course there are different entries in it and the list makes sense. But that's a different use case.)
I don't know if it's because of the new version or the latest LoMaps update. In any case, street names are no longer assigned to shaping points in the route planner, and when saving the route, the title is no longer entered ("Untitled").

I had similar experience in 4.29. Tapping one search item was ignored, tapping 2nd panned the map. Confusing.
Wow - the release notes are a small book - huge effort!
Hmmm, I guess the new LoPoint needs some basic love.
see pics, made with 4.29.0.14, but still same with 4.30.0
- only new LoPoint enabled, only 1 category 'food & drink'. AFAIK those are online.
- beside the enabled category also a bunch of other poi-symbols get shown/drawn. They are without the rectanglular-icon-style, but old-school-style.
- if I select one of those it gets the rectangular-style for the time of selection
- ANY selected poi does not get highlighted in any way, maybe orange or neon-green rectangular frame, bigger size, only its item-details pop up
- selecting and switching between those additional (not enabled) poi takes some time, maybe 6 seconds, until the map-drawing gets updated, basic item-details are shown instantly. Maybe it's due some online-loading, parsing, checking for picture, whatever

Okay, that's sorted. A few days ago, I updated all my LoMaps using the new mass update function. Since then, the addresses/street names had disappeared.
Now I've downloaded all the maps again individually and now I have three files per country/region: *osm.maps, *.osm.db and *poi2.db
I think the osm.db files were missing before.
In any case, the addresses are now back.
No idea what happened there.

New LoPoints > I believe the profit of the change is quite big. No difference in online/offline work. A lot richer content of POIs, full compatibility of offline and online, better placement on the map and for use - very easy to modify both worlds at once.
Db documentation and support for 3rd parties > no, not planned and definitely not recommended. New system is a lot more complicated than the previous and we need to keep compatibility with the online and iOS world. That's why "Other POIs" will exist and will still be well supported.
well it's a db and therefore not more complicated as it is by itself.
No doubt it makes sense to unite online and offline if different and grown structures have been in use.
It also makes sense to use a consistent structure if data of different sources get used, parsed, loaded, combined, and processed, and shown in a consistent way. If the community and userbase will bring additional content, like e.g. it is with Komoot, the more important this is, sure.
Well, noone expects a full db-documentation, plain information can be dropped at a dedicated github-page without big efforts as you know.
Even the same GUI-part, category-filter, mechanism could generally be used, though be separated to distinguish and better identify problems due to external database-files (offline), just in case. And back-loading of those can also generally be disabled to never bring those online, if building a LM-driven database is the goal.
I personally tried the old but now preserved LoPoint-part from time to time but decided not to use it consistently as it never was a satisfying experience, category ui in early design-state, poi loading awkward, search pois puh.., poi difficult to distinguish from the background, too small size and too small frame and no features like temporary switch map to bw, etc. It was a start.
Well, I suggest to rethink your view and to support with informations about the changed db-structure, consider 3rd-party sources like e.g. OAM, in my opinion this might better preserve community support and bring a better and more satisfying Locus-experience at all.
OAM POIs come from the same source as LoPoi. Why would anyone use the OAM ?
And thanks to the online poi we are always much more up to date than oam
I have nothing against documentation, but the effort should be kept to a minimum. There are much more important things to do.
@Graf Geo
click on "pointer" > thanks. Issue is that there are two pointers at once, not by intent. I'm looking at it.
missing names of shaping points > weird. Data are taken from the offline address database (part of LoMaps). Have you downloaded the latest LoMap? Which region? ... ah now I see your second post. Yes, all three files are necessary now.
@T-mo
complicated topic. Firstly, I believe that the best place where the community may invest time is OpenStreetMap itself. Then the whole world benefits.
Anyway, I still do not see a problem. The existing V1 solution ("Other POIs") exists and will exist in the future. For OAM and other communities is no need to switch to a different system. If you are interested, simply check the database structure and compare V1 and V2 files and you will see a big difference.
What are the major problems you see in the latest 4.30 version?
- not clearly visible active highlighted point > confirm, I will have to do something with it
- 6 seconds delay when loading a point? Online request is in worst case around 500ms, local offline max. 200ms. So maybe a problem with the internet connection?
- and among these two issues?
Quote from: freischneider on June 20, 2025, 10:14:15And thanks to the online poi we are always much more up to date than oam
I think we don't know when/how often ASAMM updates the database.
@Menion, if search is set to Offline Places, it requires 3 actions to leave the search, not ideal. I understand where it's coming from historically, but maybe you can react differently depending from where the search has been initiated.

Great work on the lopoints visible on the map. Could this be included in the presets too?
@menion - Regards bulk update of LoMaps - attached #1 - "congrats all your maps are up to date" - WRONG - at the time of message the updates haven't even been downloaded - next step @ attached #2. Does the wording need improvement?
Hi Menion. The new, highlighted display of selected categories of Lopoints is very nice. But it obstructs a little on the screen while passing through the city by bike. Would it be possible to add the new "View/Hide Lopoints" button to the side bar buttons? Or is there any other way to Hide/Zpbrazoit all the Lopoints quickly by one click?
@menion - I think there was a change of default folder when doing a Move or Copy function? Instead of the default home/ root folder, the default is the current folder right? Excellent change.
I got several observations about the new LoPoints:
- They still don't work with offline raster maps. I mentioned this before, don't remember if there was a reason, but it's inconvenient and confusing - if this is technically not possible, Locus should at least display a message when activating LoPoints over a map which doesn't support it.
- Worse, when I switch back from raster map to other map with LoPoints on, they still don't appear. I have to zoom in or out (sometimes multiple times) to "trigger" display.
- The highlighted icons have an un-intuitive "tap point": You have to click on the tip of the arrow. But the intuitive thing is to tap the icon itself. When several icons overlap each other and I tap on the top-most, I instead select some half-hidden one in the background. Same applies for moving the center cross over some point - I can be slap-dap in the middle of a "food & drinks" icon and a box pops up saying "guidepost" (which is not even a highlighted category).
There is a problem with new LoPoints "Search in categories".
If app language is set to german i noticed duplicated entries see attached german.jpg
After changing app lanuage to english there are still entries in german see attached english.jpg
Quote from: slarti76 on June 26, 2025, 10:14:54I got several observations about the new LoPoints:

Hi guys,
firstly,
version 4.30.1 with some fixes was published.
@Tapio update of online POI DB > twice per week if I'm correct
return from "Other POIs" > hmm, not so easy :). I've reduced it to at least two clicks.
@Blihi LoPoints in presets > hmm, is it really useful? Should be no serious reason to disable them, or not?
@Andrew Heard mass update > improved in the latest version
default copy/move folder > yes, there was also a change in the "Choose folder" dialog, so it should be more usable now
@Josef Žajdlík quick show/hide of LoPoints > hmm, currently it took a found clicks. I'll think about it.
@slarti76 LoPoints not working without LoMaps > I'm still unable to simulate it ::). They work with all maps for me. What maps are you using?
highlighted icons tap area > hmm, you are correct. It should be a little improved in latest version, but still not perfect. More complicated, so later.
@Gerhard57 duplicate categories > hmm, good point. It is because of change in the language. Give a try next version please.

Well, it's my beloved OruxMaps format map - I know, I'm the last one to use them ;)
It does work e.g. with the raster map downloaded with Locus' own system, so it's not an all-raster-maps thing.
@Menion:
Thanks for the update. You didn't mention it in the changelog, but clicking on the red pointer now moves the map directly to the location you're looking for. Perfect. 👍

Problem still exists in 4.30.1
Change of language was just a try to see if it's a problem of translation.
How can I reset the list of categories?
I am using only online LoPoints with OAM maps.

It's the same with english language, see pic, and it's by design, it's actually there since several versions incl. new LoPoint-playground.
@menion
I use Locus for 4 purposes:
1) motorbike navigation. Uses a custom map theme showing tracks a bit wider and showing fuel stations, campsites and restaurants on the map while driving. Before, I showed them using the custom theme, now this can be done with LoPoints marked on the map. Other lopoints could even be disabled.
2) hiking. Uses the default map theme for hiking. Lopoints are useful for wayfinding, but I do not need any specific categories marked as this clutters the screen.
3) driving. Only if a specific route needs to be stuck to, I use Locus rather than Google Maps. Lopoints are not so relevant, marked LoPoints also not in general.
4) editing. Lopoints should be visible, but none marked as they clutter the screen.
All in all, I think being able to switch LoPoints on or off per profile would be great. As I said, I now solve that with a custom map theme where the layers can be switched on and off per theme.

You can quickly switch the highlighted ones on and off. So switch them on for the motorcycle and off otherwise. That's no great effort.
was it ever possible to view the Description field of a point or track from the list, or does my memory deceive me? when I look at the folder list style (slim or full) there certainly seems to be plenty of unused space, even if the text is a smaller font and/or truncated. Maybe everyone differs on whats displayed. But there could be a tickbox in the style settings, under "num. of displayed total" - I've never understood that setting BTW.
Quote from: Andrew Heard on June 29, 2025, 17:26:10"num. of displayed total" - I've never understood that setting BTW.
Yeah, most useless option ever.
Hi,
Regarding POIs and Search Results, I have an observation/suggestion: When searching for something, the search result does not show the Data-Source (see screenshot).
What I wanted in hungary was to highligt *all* the "Dohanybolt" (because they usually also sell drinks). Using the Search option for one specific was no problem. But I did not find a way to show all of them on the map (like supermarkets, which I know the category for)
But it would be helpful to know:
- Where does the result come from - LoPoints, Wiki, whatever
- If it is a LoPoint, in what categories do I find these - in order to highlight them on the map. For now the symbol of the POI gives a hint, but not really more.
It would be sufficent to have a "Source: " and "POI Categories: " field when clicking on the POI or Search result.
Greetings, Ulrich

ha, ha, very bold. but what does it do? I experimented but nothing obvious changes.
@menion 4.30.1 - sometimes the folder scroll position is not remembered i.e. exit folder, return to folder, 1st item in the list is displayed. Not all the time. Not sure how to reproduce yet, but seems wrong given the mention of improvement in release notes.
You can tap in that info btw.
You mentioned descriptions, plenty of room. I compared Slim View vs. Full view. Almost no height difference, in slim view it only replaces Information with emptiness.
Anybody recently had problems with tracks not syncing?
I never experienced any bugs since sync became production-ready. Also the change in the database went flawlessly. But now I had a clear case where there were two tracks on one device that just wouldn't appear on another, no matter how often I pressed Sync. I could solve it by slightly editing the description of those two tracks, then they were synced.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to document this, as I was on the road. I can only say that the tracks were split tracks: I split the original track (deleting the original), then I split the second part of that again (also deleting the "original"), and the two results of the last split failed to sync. Dunno if that's related...
I know no help or consolation but while cycle touring over last 1.5 months I use cloud sync between 2 or 3 devices, 2 or 3 times per day without trouble, although no split of tracks involved. I've always wished for a list, post-sync, of the actual names of folders, points & tracks that have changed but...
I should also say, I never use auto sync, only manual.

I also have sometimes issues, that automatic sync does not happen. What always helps is triggering a manual sync (from the settings). However I also had no time yet to document that in detail.

Thx for feedback, but my problem is also with Manual Sync. So those two tracks didn't sync manually until I edited them slightly.
Hi guys,
A few days of illness last week, 14 days vacation in the next two weeks ... eh (this is a small excuse that July won't be something special)
Anyway, finally a Beta version 4.30.1.3.
4.30.1.3
- add: (SILVER) system photos visible at recorded tracks
- chg: redesign photo picker for LoMedia
- add: LoPoints categories visible in the detail
- chg: optimize clustering for points on the map
- add: option to report problem to Help desk with bundled latest logs (long-click on main menu)
- chg: redesign of audio recording
- fix: validate UUIDs for inner base folders (fixed problem with sync)
- chg: adapter more clever refresh system for OSM notes
4.30.1.2
- chg: united styling of LoPoints
- fix: WMS/WMTS incorrectly restored after restart
- fix: problem with loading of LoPoints on the map during movement
4.30.1.1
- chg: (SILVER) completely new system for GetTagged media, faster, smarter
- chg: redesign dialog to edit geocache waypoints
- fix: problem in cache for online maps
- fix: unable to edit saved LoPoint

- fix: not working LoPoints for special maps like OruxMaps
- fix: incorrect top panel visibility after the start
- fix: incorrect handling of interrupted download from Locus Store
- chg: download from Store resume automatically after internet connection is restored
4.30.1.3 @menion I hope you are feeling a little better. Should the point size be different between A) map content LoPoints & B) online search points? example attached of category toilet - icons in A are (too) bigger than in B. Would you think in general these new search icons are a little too big?
Geotagged media, smarter, faster. I hope. With 10000s photos now it's rough. A progress bar which slowly moves, on map no respective pois are drawn so I guess it waits until 100%. I hope it won't happen any time I turn it on.
No display of OSM notes any more.
Edit: Ok, after media scanning the window says "no folder with geotagged media". No option to define folders there. It may now be in the options. Unfortunately now LM prefers to crash after a few seconds.
EDIT: I turned eye symbol of osm notes and geotagged media off and now LM doesn't crash. Geotagged media makes no sense now. No possibility to define paths at all. No possibility to rescan. No knowledge of where it has searched. It worked well before.
I looked. I have storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Locus/ with 18000 geotagged jpegs and webps in some subfolders.
Fortunately, I read Tapio's post in time and didn't install the beta on my main device. I'm going on holiday for a week and need a working Locus, which is the case with the current stable version.
I installed the beta on my old S7 for fun and, as I feared, there are serious problems. After the lengthy scanning of the geotagged media, Locus no longer starts and crashes regularly during the start-up process, so I don't even have a chance to turn anything on or off.
I'll just wait until there's a new beta version, which will hopefully work. Until then, have a nice holiday and relax, and thanks anyway. 🙂
Everything went well for me. I like the photos in the track. OSM No more notes are displayed.

@menion, Thanks for that. Oddly enough it does not solve my original problem - where the POIs denoting the hungarian "Dohanybolt" come from and which category they belong to.
There is a POI shown on the Map (in the center of Köszeg):
image-07-11-2025_09_29_PM.jpg
However - if i click on the POI, it opens, displays the "Shopping" Icon - but no category and no further information regarding the Source....

The actual source is appearently OSM https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/12250584531 (https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/12250584531), which gives the following properties:
Knoten-_Nemzeti-Dohánybolt_-_12250584531_-OpenStreetMap-07-11-2025_09_37_PM.jpg
As said, my goal was to display all the Dohanybolt in Hungary - since they usually sell Drinks and Snaks, which is helpful during bicycle-tours.
Greetings, Ulrich
At least on the old S7, the beta does not function. I completely uninstalled Locus and then reinstalled the beta.
After the initial launch, I was able to log in with my Locus account, but then the version kept crashing and would not start.
I uninstalled it again and installed the latest release version 4.30.1, and everything is fine.
I won't risk it on my S10 for now.

The POIs usually come from LoPoi or OAM. If no category is displayed, I assume it's an OSM POI.

Hi guys,
thanks for the evening tests!
We had to change the system on how geoTagged photos worked ... completely. The old system stopped on some devices and will soon or later stop everywhere. The new system uses recommended tools and has its own database of media items that is kept updated and ready for use. So once initialization is done, it should always be fast and reliable.
@Tapio No folders for selection? It is weird to be true. We may debug it later, but if you have enabled logging to a file, there should be info. Btw. do you see these photos in any gallery app, like "Google Photos"?

No folders for selection, it stays like this after the update. Yes, photos are seen in viewers, there is no .nomedia file involved.
I was happy to read you use a database now, I hoped for it. But at least in data/database/ there is no new db file.

Size of highlighted vs. non-highlighted Lopoints. With 80% I'm fine with the highlighted ones. But some non-highlighted are tiny. Screams for an independent size setting.

Maybe you do not see categories because you do not have downloaded offline LoMap? Currently, categories are visible only if you have (any) offline LoMap downloaded. I'm waiting for some feature to be done on the server.
This is from the offline map. And the bookstore nearby shows a category

It's really nice to now easily highlight Lopoints from a category. Here: Doctors. But leaving it requires skipping 2 empty screens, we talked about a related issue.
The function also brings up another issue. It zooms out. But at that ZL other and fewer poi of the same category may be displayed.

I don't have a zoom issue. Maybe it's automatic zoom? I also have the 2 screens when leaving.

No, it zooms and centers automatically in order to include some poi from the search result.
Hi guys,
Interesting issues with the updated "Geotagged media" service. We already noticed a few weird issues with own data, but some of your crashes are blowing our heads. Bad is, that I and also
@Marek Scholtz are both leaving for 14 days, and we two are just the whole Android team :o.
Anyway, I've just at least made 4.30.1.5 with fixed some more crashes during init of geotagged photos on older devices and a nasty issue with saving of editing point, thanks
@Andrew Heard !
Quick info: the media should be scanned fully automatically. On our devices, when I pick a photo out of Locus Map, it appears on the map during a few seconds. Also, the app should offer a list of all available folders with geo-tagged media items fully automatically. Anyway, it will probably need a special Beta version ... later.
@Tapio thanks for the video. "Back" button on the bottom category panel should not open the search screen. The whole "LoPoint categories in detail" was a quick task yesterday morning, so it is definitely not well tested and finished. Sorry for this.
editing LoPoint fixed - thanks for the quick fix. have a great break.
Geotagged Photos and OSM notes stay defunct for me, but I can live with it for a while.

- added option to "Force re-load all Geotagged media". @Tapio if possible, give it a try. Simply install the app, enable logging to file, open detail of Geotagged media and in the top right corner is this new option. It will delete the database and rescan all data again. In the log should be a record of every scanned item. Thanks!
@40°
hmm, this is a new problem? There were no changes in the login system, weird. You are logging in with email/password?
Would it be possible to add the: "Add to Lopoint" to the geothent photos? It would make it easier to add photos to the Lopoints. After activating the button, it would be enough to click Lopoint, which is near the selected photo.
Quote from: Menion on July 14, 2025, 08:44:06this is a new problem? There were no changes in the login system, weird. You are logging in with email/password?
I do not know if this is a new problem or an old one. Around the fall of last year, I connected to version 4 and have been constantly updating versions ever since. Everything was fine. But after the update failed, I had to uninstall locus and switch to an older version. Now I can't log in. I also can't log into version 3, which I had to unfreeze. I think the reason is Android 7. Everything works fine on Android 10.
I tried logging in with both a Google account and an email and password.

I just deleted Locus 3 and 4 and deleted all the directories related to Locus. Then I installed the latest version of MapGooglePlayAfa_4.30.1.6_1187_beta.apk . The program is working, but there is no authorization.

One more thing:
Scanning geotagged media results in a list of folders, which can be very long in some cases. This list should be manually sortable so that I can have the folders I frequently want to show or hide at the top.
There are numerous folders that I rarely or never want to activate, and I would like to be able to sort them to the bottom or remove them from the list entirely.
Unfortunately, crash on Geotagged Media rescan. Note there were thousands more "?," in line 2 - I deleted them, otherwise message too long.

Noticed weird new behaviour in Track Editor:
When I do "Insert/edit trackpoint", after I press OK (checkmark), the map centers the initially tapped point again. I'm certain that previously, the map didn't move after the operation - because I find it very annoying and would've notice. The way I usually use it is to "move forward" from the initial point when editing, so I might be far away from the first point when done.
Is that change on purpose? Couldn't find anything Track Editor-related in recent changelog...
First a "Sorry" for asking a question which isn't related to actual test version.
My issue is highly developer specific and very technical and I don't know another place to ask for.
Fell free to point me to a better place.
I import a kmz file to Locus to add points to the map. My technique worked in the past but not longer. Maybe because of the point/track database changes.
The issue is that the point itself is imported but it doesn't contain the media files specified in doc.kml.
I see that the media files are copied to media/menion... /data/import/<name of the point>/ during the import.
I tried many many ways to specify the files in doc.kml but found no one to make it work.
Fun fact:
Export a point with media files in Locus. Delete the point in Locus and import the kmz seems to work. The media files are there.
BUT (!) when changing the media file name and adapting the kmz written by Locus to the new file name has the same issue.
I guess with the original filename it just works bcs the file is somewhere else in a Locus database and it doesn't use the one in data/imported folder. This means importing the original kmz on another device shouldn't work, too.
I know the priority of such a bug is low but maybe I have luck and a Locus developer already knows where to look and the fix takes just a minute. ::)
Way to reproduce:
Click on the appended kmz with a data manager. Android will ask for an App to use.
Select Locus.
It might do nothing the first time.
In this case just close Locus and do it again. Might need two or three retries.
Then Locus will ask for a folder to import.
Press import and check the new point. It will not contain the files "Audio......" and "description".
That the import often doesn't work is also a "new" bug. But easy to workaround so it's not an issue.

I can't help but you could in future create a help topic as a question or bug @ https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/add to move discussion out of beta versions. It's a bit of an inconsistent relationship between this forum & the help system. A pity they couldn't be merged, but that's history.
Quite long to initiate, but I really love opening an activity (in my case imported from watch recording) and seeing all geotagged media taken during it (not saved locus, just scanned by locus).
Super promising @Menion
Note the change in the behavior of the messages in the notification bar. Now the track recording message does not disappear even after the Locus is closed. Everything was still fine in the release. In 4.30.1.5_1187_beta has already been broken.
Hello,
I noticed an odd bug regarding navigation:
When I select navigate to, this screen opens Screenshot_20250717_204010_Locus Map.jpg
I select "my points", so I get the choice: Screenshot_20250717_204026_Locus Map.jpg
So, when I select one of these, I end up here: Screenshot_20250717_204035_Locus Map.jpg
But here, there is no "select" option, to use the point as destination. More so, if I click on the navigate button on the bottom, I get another navigation dialogue on top of the first one.Screenshot_20250717_204052_Locus Map.jpg
I think there is a Select option missing, when I get to the point list this way.

Hi,
There is something off with cloud sync. It happened to me twice, that cloud sync resulted in the local track I created was deleted locally instead of being uploaded (and do the track was gone for good).
I think(!) it was the case when I shared the track "by link" before the cloud sync.

In both cases it was a planned track from Route planner.
Love the blog Ulrich.
I initially installed the current beta version on my old Galaxy S7 and tested it briefly. After returning from a short holiday, I installed it on my S10 and tested it extensively yesterday.
First of all, I would like to praise the great new features, very good! Here are my suggestions for improvement and observations (I may have mentioned some of them before):
Geotagged media: - The S7 only displays new photos after restarting Locus.
- The S10 displays new photos immediately or after a few seconds.
Option 'T:Full reload': The S7 Locus crashes regularly, while the S10 performs a new scan correctly.
I have a lot of folders with individual geotagged photos. I generally take most photos without geotagging, only using geotagging in special cases. That's why I have numerous folders listed in which there are only one or very few geotagged photos among hundreds of other photos. Filtering out the geotagged photos and possibly deleting/moving them so that the folder disappears from the list is very tedious. The folder list should therefore be sortable and individual folders should be permanently ignorable so that the list remains clear.
Photo gallery in the track info panel:All photos taken during track recording are displayed here, not just the geotagged ones. Very good! Unfortunately, activating/deactivating this function is a bit cumbersome in the settings under Tracks. It would be nice if you could show or hide the gallery directly in the panel, or at least via a quickly accessible function button. It would also be great if you could delete the photos directly from this new gallery or open and edit them in a gallery app. Currently, they can only be shared.
Unfortunately, the new gallery is not displayed for merged tracks. I sometimes forget to activate recording when starting the route. Later, I create the first missing part of the route retrospectively using the route planner. After merging the tracks, no photos are displayed, not even for the much longer recorded part of the track. Can this be changed?
New photo picker for LoMedia:Good! But the large yellow notice that you can earn LoCoins with it should be able to be deactivated. It only makes sense for new users or when using the function for the first time, after that it is annoying and takes up unnecessary space.
Online/offline LoPoints:Unfortunately, it is still possible to upload photos to offline LoPoints. This then leads to the 'Invisible Point' error. If you are in automatic mode, you cannot see whether an online or offline LoPoint is currently being displayed. Either the photo should be uploadable for an offline LoPoint and then automatically added to the online LoPoint later when an internet connection is available again. Or, for offline LoPoints, the photo picker should be deactivated and a label should appear indicating that it is an offline LoPoint.
EDIT: OK, apparently uploading photos to offline LoPoints is now possible and the photos are displayed when you switch back to online LoPoints and are online. Correct?

One more thing about geotagged photos:
When I click on a geotagged photo on the map to open it and then go to "Details", only the following path is displayed:
content://media/external/file/12345
I have now discovered that this is the path to the thumbnails of the photos, which are stored under 0/Pictures/.thumbnails and are given these 5-digit numbers as file names.
That doesn't help me. It would, of course, make more sense to display the path to the actual photos rather than to the thumbnails.
At the beginning I thought the photos in the recorded track were great. But there are a few problems.
During my last ride, I received several photos in Whats App. These are all saved in the track. And during a hike, I took a screenshot of a website, which is now also in the track.
I have deleted them in my gallery but they are still in the track. I also have no way of deleting them there.
@freischneider: I tested this during a short recording at home and took a few photos with two different camera apps and screenshots. The images are immediately displayed in the track gallery. However, when I delete them in my photo gallery app, they disappear immediately in the track gallery.
I have a second screenshot app (Screenshot Touch), and funnily enough, its screenshots are not displayed in the track gallery (but they are in my photo gallery).
Offline highlighting of LoPoint categories:
I can highlight one or more categories offline in the "map content" panel under LoPoints. This works.
When I click on a single LoPoint on the map, the category is now displayed in the LoPoint panel, which is very practical. When I click on it, Locus complains that there is no internet connection. Why are the offline LoPoints in this category not displayed here?
Another small problem with scanning of all geotagged media:
I have tried the new photo picker for LoPoints. It offers the nearest photos to the opened LoPoint. Very good so far!
As soon as I select and upload a photo, a copy of the photo is created in the Locus cache (.../menion.android.locus/cache/temp). These copies are also displayed immediately. If I now want to select another photo to the same LoPoint or to another LoPoint that is very close by, these photos that have already been uploaded are now displayed twice. Not a bad thing, but a bit annoying and confusing and it affects the clarity.
Creating a .nomedia file in the cache/temp folder only helps for a short time, as this folder is automatically emptied each time the system is restarted and the .nomedia is therefore also deleted. Then these duplications occur again.
In my opinion, such app-internal system folders should not be scanned or, even better, it should be possible to exclude folders from scanning.
I don't know if this was already the case in a previous version, but in the current beta, the "Other map apps" button no longer works.
Clicking on it does nothing.
There's still this bug: I click on the needle to auto rotate map. Now I can't go back to the non-rotation mode. Every time I click the needle it automatically goes back to rotation.
Workaround is to apply the setting via a profile.
In my case, double-click the needle works
Question about the new Pictures-in-track feature: It works for me, when I click on a track all respective pictures are shown, but not the locations. Is that correct? Or is there a way to turn that one? I mean, there is already the feature to show geotagged pictures on the map, and the you get little markers all over the map. So I'm not sure whether that's missing (for now) or is the idea just to have a a scrollable list within the track details?
@slarti76: All photos taken during track recording are displayed, regardless of whether they have geotagging or not.
However, it would be useful if you could go directly to the folder where the photo is located via the track gallery. Then you could edit/delete it directly and call up the Exif data including coordinates (if available).

Thx for explanation. Still, it would be great to be able to easily turn on display of the image location (where available) from the track details.

Hi guys,
this looks like a lot happened duringthe last 14 days ... this will be long :)
I've made internally around 10 notes and will look at them during next days.
@Žajdlík Josef
we were thinking about something like this a long time ago. Anyway, we are already working on the better picker for media when directly attaching to any LoPoint. Hope this helps. Your solution ... maybe later.
@40°
login problem > I do not have unfortunately any solution for you. One user also wrote about probably identical problem on the help desk. And I've found, that whole login system I'm using for maybe 10 years is deprecated and will be removed from Android this year! So I'll have to write it whole again with hope, it will solve this issue as well (and bring some new ...)
"Link with preset" crash > fixed, thanks

Thanks for the intensive testing, appreciate it!

The photos are now gone after deleting them. It just took a little while.
But I have photos that I don't want to delete, but they still have no place in Locus Map.
Photos from WhatsApp
Screenshots
But sometimes I take a photo of a product or advertisement event, and I want to keep some of them but not have them in the track. These also appear in the track. If you could delete individual photos directly in the track but keep them in the gallery, that would be great.

@Menion In both cases it was an newly created track. I think(!) I shared the track (via link) before the cloud sync ran. (but not 100% sure though)
But I agree, its hard to simulate. The Post was more of a heads up, wether others also experience issues. I will observe it - and maybe figure out something reproducable. ;-)
Greetings, uk
@Menion: I hope you had a nice holiday! Thank you for addressing all these points. 👍
Here are my comments and responses:
some manual sorting, like in the case MyLib folders ...
That would be a good solution for now.
New photos after restart on S7 > what Android is on this device?
Android 8.0 – so it should work.
(I use the old device as a bike computer, among other things.)
List of folders > I'm aware of this need and we will do something with it.
Thanks!
Show/hide media at tracks > I believe this does not need to be easily changeable. Is it a problem to have this functionality permanently enabled/disabled, based of your needs?
It would be handy, as I prefer a slim track panel, but would like to be able to quickly display the gallery when needed. However, I interpret your answer to mean that it would not be easy to implement.
Merged tracks ... I'll improve it so it at least takesthe first and last point with valid time.
That would be great!
"1LC hint when adding LoMedia" > we've discussed it yesterday and we'll improve it
👍
Upload LoMedia for offline LoPoints > do you have the latest LoMap with new LoPoints? "Invisible point" should not happen anymore as online and offline databases are identical (in time of offline DB generation of course).
Yes, I already added under EDIT that it seems to work. 🙂
Path to photos ... Anyway, I'll check if path can be obtained somehow.
That would be very helpful, as I really miss this information and constantly have to search laboriously to find where the images are located.
Images in the "cache" directory > hmm, this probably happens because you have the Locus directory in the "Android/media" folder, right? Damn.
Yes, Android/media (as recommended) 😉
Other map apps > please open system Locus Map settings > "Open by default" and press "Clear defaults" at the bottom.
Thanks, that helped!
Beta 4.29.0.5 4.30.1.7
Thank you very much!
Quick check of some (not all) new features:
Track gallery: Display file path and option to open photo in standard app: excellent!
Track gallery in merged track still does not work. (Recorded track merged with track created with the route planner). Regardless of whether the manual track is at the beginning or end, with or without a gap, photos are not displayed.
Geotagged media on Galaxy S7 with Android 8: Forced rescan (T:Full reload) now works without crashing, but new geotagged photos are still only displayed after restarting Locus. The number displayed in the folder is also only updated then.
Prevent scanning of cache directories: Seems to work, I still need to test it more thoroughly.
Import/export track time + 1h: now ok (after a quick test)
Track recording notification: ok now.
Further tests in the next few days. 🙂
Experts & power users may/ probably know that the red setting badge (below) means Android Location setting is turned off, but how does the average user (me) know what Locus is indicating? There is no way to tell.
composite screen cap - locked position left side/ no location ride side
20250801-083525-C__Users_ajh_Desktop_Screenshot_20250731_152353_Locus Map.jpg - IrfanView (Zoom_.jpg
Can this be improved? The button has a question mark (?) in the middle but any tap is ignored - unhelpful. I suggest a tap displays an informative message. Simple improvement?
Geotagged media rescanning now working, but doesn't find anything. It's all below internal SD /DCIM/ folder.

I wouldn't have known what was going on either. I would have just clicked on the cogwheel to see what appeared. But the red question mark could help to identify what is wrong with the position. Then I can access the settings via the cogwheel and know that I can solve the problem there.
I don't see any great need for action here. You quickly get used to what the red badge means. Perhaps replace the cogwheel with an exclamation mark or a dot, or leave it out altogether (just a red circle) so that the association with "setting" does not arise.
Turning the red cogwheel into a function button would probably be difficult. It would be a small function button inside a larger one. You can't click on the blue lock separately either.
Merged tracks and track gallery
I tried a few things:
A merged track from one created with the route planner and one recorded track never displays photos. Even if the manual part does not contain any timestamps, Locus creates these 1970 timestamps when merging, and Locus does not seem to be able to cope with this in order to display photos.
Merging two recorded tracks leads to other problems: for example, I merge a track from 15 July with one from 17 July. The track gallery that is then displayed also contains all the photos from 16 July! In addition, all the photos are listed in a jumbled order and not in chronological order.
I also edit many photos and keep the originals. I copy some photos to other folders. In the track gallery, they are then all displayed multiple times.
I have no idea if and how this can be fixed. At the very least, the order of the photos should be displayed correctly.
Would it be possible to add "show Media" to the quick settings or directly to the side panel in the future?
Quote from: Graf Geo on August 01, 2025, 09:29:43You quickly get used to what the red badge means.
@Graf Geo - how would a new user work out what it means? Normally a tap on the centering button does *something*. When Location is turned off, it then does nothing. I just mean a toast-style orange messagebox, not a button within a button.
Photo gallery in the track info panel:
Quote from: Menion on July 30, 2025, 16:18:44we no longer work with files directly. All media items has in the system unique ID and we access all photos and videos over this "id".
Photo gallery seems to be sorted by system unique ID which might differ from sorting by date of creation (my preferd sorting).
I often take Photos with digital camera and copy them to Locus Map device where the system ID is created without any sorting.
@Gerhard57:
I have also noticed that the order in the track gallery gets mixed up. I move many photos into the appropriate folders later, and apparently they are then given a new ID and sorted to the end of the track gallery.
It is still a beta version, and the track gallery needs improvement.
Track gallery: is that a system attached to geotagged photos (defunct for me) or photo points? (not using those 😐).
Quote from: Tapio on August 03, 2025, 08:34:15Track gallery: is that a system attached to geotagged photos (defunct for me) or photo points? (not using those 😐).
It's new since beta 4.30.1.3 See attached
@Tapio: The track gallery displays ALL photos that have a time stamp between the start and end of a track recording. In other words, photos taken during that time. Regardless of whether they are geotagged or not.
As already mentioned, these can also be screenshots or images received via messenger.
Quote from: Graf Geo on August 03, 2025, 10:27:46The track gallery displays ALL photos that have a time stamp between the start and end of a track recording.
Could you send a screenshot? I'm not seeing this in my tracks. While track recording, I take pictures the standard way, via the systems camera app. I'm always on latest beta. I reckon LM does have issues with file system access. Geotagged photos aren't found as well.
@Tapio: Is the function even activated on your device (see screenshot)?
Settings -> Points and Tracks -> Tracks -> Show media
Geotagged photos: Sure your photos have geotagging stamps? Are they displayed in the Exif data and you can see the geotagged photos in other map apps? I have disabled geotagging in the standard camera app and use Open Camera for photos with geotagging.
Quote from: Graf Geo on August 03, 2025, 10:49:13@Tapio: Is the function even activated
Yes.
Geotagged photos worked before the change, ie ofc they're geotagged.
Attached is a screenshot from F-Stop (picture viewer). Plenty of detected photos.
And an example photo. Path to it is /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Locus/2025-06-09 Arnsberger Südrunde mit Paul/

@Menion - ahh I see - that's the issue - tapping for you "offers solution", for me is ignored, hence my suggestion it should "offer solution" - at least we agree there. So, I wonder why the difference.

@Andrew Heard:
Red badge on location button: Appears when hardware GPS is off and Locus GPS is on.
In this case, clicking on the location button centres the map on the last detected location (but if that was too long ago, nothing happens).
The red badge cannot be clicked on separately. At least not for me.
As Menion writes, the red badge is therefore only an indication that hardware GPS is off (or that there is no signal, for example in a basement).
That's perfectly adequate for me.
@Menion:
Regarding new beta 4.30.1.8: Thank you very much! Great improvements to geotagged media (select date and hide unwanted directories)! 👍
thanks @Graf Geo - yes, we've been around this circle many times. I know all that. That's perfectly adequate for me too. I'm thinking of other, maybe less technical users. I have other friends that I've shown LM too, encourage to use - and they say far too complex for them to bother using - their own words. As I've said, sorry again, normally tapping the whole button results in action. When the red badge is visible, tapping is apparently ignored if map is already at last position. How does a user link in the mind the connection between a "red badge" and realizing the Android location is disabled? They see something is wrong, but there are no hint how to fix their situation.
My point in general is that users, like me & you, know LM inside out. I'm thinking more how new or occasional users look when evaluating GPS apps & which they chose and/ or continue to use.
By the way, I was using Anthropic "Claude AI" a few days ago. Asking for help. It recommended I check out OsmAnd. I replied like "are you aware of Locus Map". It wasn't. So then that potential new user, maybe silver or gold, is lost. I guess OpenAI/ ChatGPT will give a similar reply.
@Andrew Heard: You're right, we're probably going round in circles or talking at cross purposes. Nevertheless, we should basically agree.
However, in my opinion, Locus is not an app for users who want a simple map tool that is as self-explanatory and intuitive to use as possible.
Without a basic understanding of maps and a willingness to learn and read the manual, many interested users will quickly give up. It's too complex, with too many functions and settings... Even as a long-time intensive user, I still have to search, read the documentation or ask in the forum from time to time. It is almost impossible to remember all the functions, settings and options – especially those that you rarely need.
I have also recommended Locus to a few friends and acquaintances and offered to help them (mostly people who have only used Google Maps or, at best, Komoot). Ultimately without success, for the reasons mentioned above.
I don't see that as a big problem. Not every application can or needs to meet all requirements and at the same time be very simple and extremely versatile.
That doesn't mean that Locus shouldn't be as easy to use as possible, but I think it's difficult to make every button and every function foolproof ("idiotensicher", as we say in German).
Especially since the red badge is a hint and not a button. In my opinion, that's reasonable. 😎
New Beta 4.30.1.8
I have set the Slim Style in My Library.
If I want to move or copy a point or track, the subfolder icons are now displayed in the folder list, which should actually only appear in full style.
Is this intentional? When I select Slim Style, I actually always want to have the Slim Style.
In 4.30.1.7 the list is still displayed "slim", i.e. without subfolder icons.

But this is the wrong place. Please submit suggestions for improvement to the help desk. It's probably a minor issue. But 100 people have a minor issue. And in this case, only one person wants it. That's why we need the help desk and to gather votes.
Actually it's not masterclass to make an app featurerich but simple in appearance and use.
Though you will easily find bad design or control solutions.
Look at the android-dark-material-design, where active controls or tabs in browser are with that darkgrey that it is pita to reliably distinguish from black. Assuming there might have been a LOT of meetings and finetunings to bring that android-design to life.
Well, that red sign next to position is the worst decision of 2025.
Everything else is said.
I guess Locus will never be for beginners. E.g. look at the simple satellite radar screen with GPS off and you're immediately out of the game, 'no visible sattelites'. Don't get in panic and touch the screen..
I'm fine and understand the logic :)
