Title: Map center moved to the bottom when rotation is on
Post by: tkansgar on April 13, 2025, 11:11:44
Hi,

for me currently (version 4.28.3) the red cross marking the map center is moved to the bottom of the map screen (see screenshot), when the rotation by compass is switched on. I'm not sure, whether I switched this on by changing a setting, or whether it is so, since the new version was installed. Is there any setting to switch this behaviour off again? It is annoying for me, when moving towards a road crossing, where I want to turn left or right, as too few map parts are visible in this situation.

Settings/controlling/map screen/shift map cursor
😉

Found it and switched off again. Many thanks!

But by the way: For me "1/4 closer to the bottom" does not mean, that the red cross had to be placed just close to the bottom edge. Instead I had expected, that it would be placed a bit below the center of the screen. Obviously the heights of the top and bottom bars of the map screen is integrated into the calculation of the shifted position. I would like to have a possibility to adjust that distance in any way.

That's what I thought at first. But it's true. My display is 14 cm high and the cursor is 3.5 cm above the bottom edge. So it fits.

However, the entire display counts, including the top and bottom panels and the notification bar.

Yes, the entire map screen is considered. Panels do not make a difference here. They are very dynamic, and everyone may set quite a different UI, so taking them into consideration may be problematic.

Hi Menion,

my proposal is an additional setting (in [%]) related to "shift map cursor", which then is used instead of 1/4. Default should be 25% (=1/4). Then I could set it to ca. 10%, which would fit better to my needs. What do you think?

I'm getting along great with the current one. You're the first one who doesn't like it. You can submit a suggestion for improvement to the help desk. Then others can vote for it.

I was just about to do that and found a topic exactly describing my idea:

So I'm not the only one.

Indeed, you are not :)

I use this in landscape mode for navigation on a motorbike. In that case, the space below the cross is not so relevant, so 5, 10 or 15% would probably suffice.

Here's what I mean. This is my normal bike view. Custom panel on the right, custom theme (based on AdventureV4 from advrider.com).

The space below the arrow is a bit too much.
