Title: Manual route sections: no elevation loss/gain
Post by: herve.caf on January 05, 2025, 09:13:21
Hi all,
When planning a route in the web planner, if a route section is drawn manually (instead of e.g. "Walking") on off-track areas of the map: the distance is updated, but not the elevation loss/gain.
I assume this is because there is no "known track" on these sections, but couldn't the elevation change information be derived from the DTM?

Hi Herve,
your assumption is correct :). Currently we take elevation data from the router. For manual routing we would need to get data from the DTM. Please, check the existing ideas list (https://help.locusmap.eu/topics/idea/status/all/category/30/sort/popular/page/1) on our help desk and if missing, create a new one. Then others can vote for it to help us prioritize our next implementation steps ;).

Excellent observation! For off-track locations, it makes logical to infer elevation data from the DTM. It would undoubtedly improve the precision of route planning. I hope that future upgrades will be able to incorporate this feature!
