I just tested the old search option.
I have selected Google as the search engine and can also enter a search term. But when I start a new search, the input dialog only appears briefly and the old search is repeated ...
May you please post me a screenshot? I'm unable to simulate any problem.
Version is still in the Google team review, but because of the number of changes on the background, seems they take some time on it. So anyone interested > version on the Google Drive.
See attached screenrecord ...
As you can see: a second new search isn`t possible.
Correct, I can confirm this issue.
When can we finally expect to get the "full" Geocaching4Live Addon features (like update all caches in a list) in the main app?I think I can remember that Menion mentioned this earlier.
Version 4.26.1 was just published on Google Play (for all users).
@Diddi
anything except "Update all caches" is still missing? This one is on its way. It just needs a new data manager (hopefully till the end of the year).
Small issue with the track info panel:
In the track info panel with a label with 3 lines, the line with the date and time and the arrow to open further track details is not displayed. Screenshot 1
I first have to move the lower area down and then up again for the line to appear.

The add-on offers the option to load the latest 100 logs. Sometimes that's quite useful
For me (and one otherwise person) the update did not show up in the Google play store. So the companion app on the Samsung Watch did refuse to start because of not updated or missing Locus on the smartphone. Manually installing the apk fixed this.
How come the wear app did work with the last version but did stop doing so as soon an update seemed to be available?
@Michal - the 1st images in https://www.locusmap.app/new-locus-map-4-26-dynamic-offline-lomap-rotation-and-other-features-not-only-for-cyclists/ doesn't display?

I had to reload the page several times until all images were displayed (by pressing the reload button in the browser)
PS: the new map rotation is really cool ;)
The bug should be fixed now. It was caused by a large gif in the article.
Hi @menion . When planning a route, the alternatives are displayed in the same colour. It would be interesting to see them in a different colour to differentiate them better.
Best regards.
When I get to the "Link with presets" screen and press the button to configure the presets, the app breaks and restarts. It asks to clear the cache. Even after this has been done, the app keeps crashing. This happens on both my smartphone and my tablet (Locus 4.26.1)

Version 4.26.2 was just published.
Do not know why, but the validation from Google now takes about 2 days (compared to an hour before) :-[. Anyway, the version is on Google Drive if anyone is interested. Btw. the only "not fixed" issue I'm aware of should be three lines in the title of the point/track screen, that cause problems.
On Google Drive, I can only see the MapGooglePlay variant Afa_4.26.1.1_1145_beta, added 10/4/2024 asamm_software
It is a release bug-fix, so check "LM 4 Release download".
I noticed, that the "lineSymbol" tag in themes doesn't work anymore for "cliff" lines as it used to. Only simple lines or dasharrays are drawn. The internal hiking theme is also affected so you can easily check.
Below screenshots show v3 and v4 LoMaps with internal hiking theme in latest v46 for comparison.
Regards search in functions & settings: as mentioned previously, main menu > All features > Search: "backup" - does not show any result?! It's not intuitive in my opinion that "Backup manager" is found from Settings. Backup manager is as much (more) a function, than a "setting".
20241011-085049-.jpg
How about any search shows all results from both "functions" & "settings" in one list?
Another issue with line rendering. If you set a dy value in a stroke-dasharray there are lots of display errors. If you don't set a dy value, then the array is much better aligned. Please see the example in the screenshots.

No, it's a long standing issue present since pre LM4 😊.

Straight lines are less problematic and it doesn't matter if you use curve="cubic" or not for the lines. Problem remains the same.
The missing line symbols for cliffs are a rather new phenomenon I think.
Quote from: Menion on October 11, 2024, 13:27:10have you tried the online base search (in latest app version) and here write "backup"? :)
@Menion - V4.26.2 - online base search? no haven't tried & not sure what it is. My list has online, offline adr, offline place, locale, contact, pts, tracks, wiki, w3w, geo. Nothing sounds like "base". Maybe you mean online place search? I can't see why that would return settings or functions. I tried anyway with "backup", but nothing relevant. Sorry if dumb question.
@TrulloF
yes, missing cliffs, one-way symbols, and some others are new - a side effect of text rotation. This will be fixed in the next version.
@Andrew Heard
I'll have to rename the first search option to something different as it stops being "only" online search. Definitely not a dummy question ... check the screenshot, please. You may see our attempt to integrate multiple search systems into one.
Bug. Main menu - All Features - Search (enter at least one letter): you cannot exit the window.
Search integration: oh yes, I'd love to have it use eg my offline Geonames. And please consider priority search, like "first check offline sources, then online", maybe user can decide what sources to include... etc etc time will tell

very interesting; agree with Tapio; will this be a 1-stop-shop instead of all the search types (online, offline adr, offline place, locale, contact...)?
At present the device needs to be online to search for offline settings/ features. Are you considering being able to adaptively search for offline, when device is offline?
I'm wondering about LMs (long-term) offline behaviour regarding license. I have some bad experience with a Playstore app, where the developers fate is unknown (unresponsive) - the app does not start in case of no contact with his license servers. Something you're not aware of normally. Some users even have paid eur 100 for it (dgt board connection). Acid Ape Chess.
@tapio - it's a ticking timebomb. I had a similar experience with a PC program 10 years ago - tried to migrate to a new PC but the activation was tied to a phone # that no longer existed. Completely destroyed my investment.

Related, in gaming: https://www.stopkillinggames.com/eci
It's just that some devs don't have end of their product support in mind (they're human beings, they can even die, no shit Sherlock), or don't care, or whatever. That's not right.
@tapio - like in https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=9096.msg76909#msg76909 - "shit happens" - sometimes very suddenly.
Small error in the track statistics panel in the German language setting:
For average speed (in movement) the word "Bewegung" (movement) is displayed twice. See screenshot:
I know you can set Languages for vector maps. That doesn't help a lot though, since nobody in Greece gives a sh... about adding latin names.
It would be great if Locus had a
"Always force latin letters"
option somewhere. When a name only has greek or cyrillic writing, you would simply render a 1:1 replacement with latin letters instead. That would be a great help in Greece and other funky non-latin countries.
@Tapio problem with exiting search > not happen to me. Hopefully, it has already been fixed :)
Is Locus Map working without our servers? Hmm, probably no, sorry. Verification is necessary at least once. Then, years without the internet should not be a problem. Even if app knows that Premium expired, it still keeps premium functionality enabled till internet access will be available again. Anyway, what happens with the app functionality when our team ends completely? Sorry, I have no idea as I still do not expect it happens soon.
@Andrew Heard 1-stop-shop > it is probably not possible for 100%, but we would like to go as close to this goal as possible. The main problem is currently offline address search that uses a completely different system. Anyway, give us a little time and we will come with some solutions :)
@joeloc interesting idea, thanks. Not sure, how technically complex this is.
@voldapet ?

Sorry to say, but there is no such thing as a 1:1 replacement for different scripts. Not even within Latin - did you know that the English "sh" is written in German as "sch", in Polish as "sz", in Hungarian as simple "s" and in some other Slavic languages as "š"? Or that the pronunciation of Oslo would be best approximated in English as "Ooshloo"? Greek may be reasonably doable, as afaik only one major language uses that script. But Cyrillic already has the same problem as Latin scripts: Special variants that have different transliterations depending on the country or even dialect.
This is a topic that linguists spent years on - I don't think it's helpful if Locus on its own implements some simplified (or "half-a**ed") solution...
Question about the "Pre-load Global Map":
Is it possible to use that only for vector maps?
I'm using the bitmap world map from OpenAndroMaps because we all know that vector maps look sh** in low ZLs. However, Locus also uses it for other bitmap maps, which seems wrong to me: If a bitmap map provides those ZL, why replace them? Would be nice to at least make that optional...
This already works the way you wish - for ONLINE maps.
Good news: the mechanics already exists.
Bas news: it needs Menion's time - but not too much, I suppse :-)

Greek would be super easy and not "half-arsed"... almost everything translates exactly 1:1, letter by letter. It's quite pointless to expect the Greek OSM contributors to add "translations" for every single language with latin letters. I understand this is nothing with priority, just annoying. Also, a somewhat readable map is *always* better than gibberish, even if it fails on all your linguistics specialties. But since nobody but me travels in Greece with Locus anyway, never mind. I rest my case :-).
It reminds me a bit of buddy tracking and sharing functions. Apparently Locus users travel alone in general, so nothing ever gets fixed. And even in 2024, we call each other with "where are you now?" and "where are you going?" and "your point is not updating!". And we transfer points and tracks via WhatsApp plenty times every single day.

Yeah, I agreed that Greek would probably be doable, but you also mentioned "funky Cyrillic languages", and taken together any solution would be half-a... Not even starting about Chinese, Japanese, Korean, which by the way would also be "super-easy". It's just a bottomless pit, especially for Locus. Perhaps this should be addressed on OSM side? Some mechanism to automatically transliterate Greek and Korean? ;)
No offense meant, you rested your case ;)
LineSymbols are back again in latest beta. Thanks.
Wrongly calculated line decorations with dy-values are still there.
@slarti76
"Global map" is indeed currently used only for offline maps. We may expect, that most online maps have a a) global coverage or b) global coverage at least in the low zoom levels. It is not a case of offline maps. You may have a map that has good coverage also in some low zoom levels, but it is not usual I believe. So, for now, it is not possible and I believe it is not necessary at all, except in rare cases, sorry.
@TrulloF
line-symbols fixed > perfect, thanks for confirmation
dy-values > I was not working on it and did not plan in the near future. If this is a general problem in the MapsForge library, you may report it directly to the Emux here (https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/issues).
Hi Menion,
there is a third kind of maps in Locus: raster maps that are NOT online maps. For those you cannot disable the global map today (I tried that over the weekend, too). I agree with you re. the online maps, but I think other raster maps (in maps folder, not mapsOnline) can stand for themselves.
Cheers

Hey, guys,
I'm reaching out to the duck locus community. Could someone redo an existing or make a new dashboard in Locus for geocaching use? Three or four fields would be enough: an arrow pointing to the target (cache), distance remaining to the target, altitude or speed, or distance covered. Larger font and possibility to set transparency above the map. What is displayed now when navigating to a cache in Locus is pretty small for me. Thank you very much.
Maybe have a try yourself? The interface within the Locus Map app makes it very easy to do.
Quote from: Andrew Heard on October 29, 2024, 21:15:07Maybe have a try yourself? The interface within the Locus Map app makes it very easy to do.
Yes, DIY was my thought as well, but does LM have the necessary elements Geocaching/Dashboard? (I'm not into Geocaching)
ahh good point @tapio. I admit I didn't read the "geocaching" aspect of the question. So maybe the "data sources" are not available. Sorry @Pcmann, although still worth learning about dashboards in general as it's a fantastic LM feature.
Quote from: Pcmann on October 29, 2024, 16:08:09... an arrow pointing to the target (cache), distance remaining to the target, altitude or speed, or distance covered. ...
These are all fields or functions that apply to any destination, regardless of whether it is a geocache or any POI.
Only the arrow does not exist, but an arrow line to the destination is displayed in the destination guidance anyway.
"Azimuth" indicates the degree to the target.
So it should be feasible.
I'm a computer layman and I don't know how to make some items visible, like the direction indicator (arrow) or the color of the digits or the size of the window on the dashboard. That's why I'm turning to the community, because some dashboards were created by some. Thanks.
https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/36286-edit-track-cut-inner-part-and-leave-a-waypoint-with-time-delta
Guys support me, the awesomestestest idea of the decade 😁 "Cut inner part and leave pause length waypoint" so to say. Btw isn't "inner part" weird english? (not a native speaker).
I was often asking for automatic pause detection, but there's priorities. So this suggestion could a) support the user awareness of his pauses and b) make them clean up clutter because of a benefit.
ANOTHER GENERAL QUESTION - ANYONE NOTICED SEVERE BATTERY DRAIN? Just asking, I'm not saying it was Locus Map. I cannot control. Last weekend I got into trouble, 3km before target (my car). Just had my smartphone with me and where it usually has 50% bat, it was empty. Forest was pretty destroyed in that area, ways not existing, phone off... I lost track and walked wrong way, but didn't notice. No phone and it would get dark in 2 hrs. No people, foggy day. At some point I met a person who told me the lose direction, but still, again walked a track which at some point was destroyed. Between hills I had no orientation, there was even a highway a few km away, but inaudible. Well after all I found a village and very nice people drove me to my car. I (and poor doggie) was 4km away from car and walked an extra of 10km in fast pace, on top of the plsnned 23km.
Never again I'll be as unprepared, so even in Germany you can get into problems. Overnight in autumn without preparation is what could have happened. It's currently ca. 5 deg C at night. Not fun.
Was not well prepared because... lazy. Such thing never happened to me before. I have a Garmin etrex vista hcx as a robust backup, but it was at home.
My thought before was: It is Germany, it's small, you just walk straight and will always find some village. Nice and well, but what if darkness approaches you.
Screenshot: Black is where I should have walked, Pink is where I walked. Totally off.

@Neoaliphant - yes - screen off, airplane mode, all other foreground apps "killed"
FWIW ~70mA for track recording; just started testing with audio coach & BT heart rate & BT earbud - appears to rise to ~100mA though more testing required

Oh thx, never used it, wasn't aware.
Will observe and meaaure as well. On my old phone, 4G connection was a battery killer. Airplane mode is not appropriate for me (need gsm/sms) but I may turn off internet connectivity.
On my Huawei, there's this stupid, not configurable, undocumented app called PowerGenie, which sends apps to sleep, not wanted at times. I have turned it off (adb), but there's a penalty: the Android reporting "which app uses how much battery" is turned off, so I'm blind on that eye.
Hello Menion,
I have a problem with WMS Maps. Every time I clear temporary data, I can't use my WMS maps anymore.
If you have the time to solve this, maybe you can optimize the usage of WMS maps,too. It would be nice, that one could use at least two Wms maps at the same time as an overlay. There are so many very good Wms maps available (Open Data).
Maybe the space on the display for Wms maps could be reduced.
Kind regards

@balloni55 please? The work "Bewegung" should not be there. Thanks
@Jochen what exactly is the problem? When you clear the cache, maps need to be re-initialized before usage. But it should work ..
More maps > it is a complex task and currently really not planned
@Menion: 3-line problem: In the new My library (Data manager) V2, it does not appear. Ok there.
Hello Menion,
I'm sorry, but if I reinitialize the WMS map nothing happens.
I have to delete the Wms map and add it again.
Many years it worked without any problems, but it occured a while ago for the first time. Unfortunately I don't know the exact beta version.
I understand, that it is complicated to display more than one Wms map.
Maybe it is possible to save a little space on the display for Wms maps or maybe a better solution than the left upper corner. I know this is easier said than done.
Kind regards
Jochen 👍👍👍
@Jochen weird that re-initialize does not help :-\. Latest Locus Map 4 version?
Btw, why do you clear temporary data? The app clears some data automatically, so maybe it should be a little more aggressive.
@Menion
I use the latest beta with a Gold account.
Sometimes I clear all the data, to get updated maps quicker. But if I'm the only user, who has this problem, maybe something went wrong in my configuration etc. .
As long as there is no fix, I'll wait for the automatic clearing of data. Thank you very much for your wonderful app 👍👍👍.
I recently had a problem with missing icons: I had points in my database that refer to an icon ZIP that I didn't use anymore. But the only way to notice that was when I was in the area and used the "Nearest point" function - then I got a toast message telling which ZIP file wasn't found, but not the offending POI.
It also didn't help scrolling through the point list looking for a "blank" icon - because it looks like in this case the missing icon gets replaced with the folder icon.
I solved this by turning on the logs and searching for the name of the missing ZIP file, and then in the vicinity I found the name of the offending point.
Is there an easier way? I think a "Check for missing icons" function would be useful. There might be other sensible checks, so perhaps "Database integrity check"?
Hello Menion,
After the last update there was a problem with the cache display in the Locus map. Whether I have the cache database loaded in the Android/data/menion.android.locus/files/Locus/data/geocaching directory or via the GeoGet4Locus plugin, I have to turn Locus off and on several times to get the cache icons to show up. Before the update, everything was running normály.
@slarti76
I was creating a method detecting invalid/missing icons a few years ago, but was never successful. So there is currently no tool for this, sorry.
@Pcmann
what do you mean by the "cache icons"? I'm not aware of any problem here, so if possible, describe me a steps to simulate this problem on my own device, thanks.

Ok, fair enough. But perhaps, as a small improvement, could you put the name of the offending point in the toast so at least the problem is easier to find?
I turn on Locus and a clean map without cache appears. I have to turn Locus off and on several times (about 3 times) to get the cache to appear in the Locus map. I use an offline map and have the cache database downloaded to Locus.
If Locus is running for some time in the background, lately very often a message about losing login credentials appears (screenshot of the error).

and this is the biggest problem - detect which point misses its icon :). I'll have to look at it later because I currently really do not have a simple solution here.
@Pcmann
this is a big topic here (https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=8786.msg76594#msg76594). I still do not know why this happens, sorry. If you will have anything that may help, it will be more than welcome :-\

Ah, ok - it looked obvious in the logs, but being a developer myself I know how it is when the information you need is not passed through to where you need it...
I'm testing LM 4.26.3.2 BETA on a Galaxy S23 (SM-S911B/DS) with Android 14 and when I select My lists & PQ the option disappears after about 3 seconds, if I run it again it stays on.
Vymazal jsem mezipamět aplikace LM a vypadá to, že už je vše ok 8)
I cleared the cache of the LM app and everything seems to be ok now ;)

the new representation of the rotating north arrow is much harder to recognise without the black border ::)
Ah thanks, This is an accidental change caused by my desperate attempt to display the coloring icon in Android Auto. Thanks a lot, I'll fix it!
I can't find the settings anymore. Is this intended?
Longpress one of the functions and then activate the function you want to have instead from the list that opens.

I think he is looking for her at the bottom
If "settings" is active in the upper area (lines with function icons), it is not listed at the bottom.
If I replace it with another function at the top, settings appears at the bottom. The same applies to the Locus store.
Maybe change a function once at the top and select "settings" and then change it again?
Please make the names of the Sort by options in the points and tracks menu konsistant.
WHY:
sort menu | | function | | named in version 4.26 | | named incomming My libary (data manager), V2 |
tracks | | sort by length of track | | distance | | length |
points | | sort by distance to active point | | distance | | distance |
tracks | | sort by distance to active point | | nearest | | distance |
konsistant in 4.24 points distance -> nearest
konsistant to comming My Libary (data manager), V2 tracks distance -> length and tracks nearest -> distance

The situation is repeating itself, I installed LM 4.26.3.4 BETA on a Galaxy S23 (SM-S911B/DS) with Android 14 and when selecting My lists & PQ, this option disappears after about 3 seconds, if I launch it again, it stays running.
The trick with dumping the application cache did not work either.
Hello menion
the arrows are now easier to see again, but appear visually smaller, as the black borders of the arrows no longer stand out so strongly from the grey circular area underneath.
Is it possible to display the arrows larger on the circular area?
I agree the compass icon is not as easy to view as it used to be - a backward step? And have the north & south points touch or get closer to the circumference of the button to enlarge & improve visibility against the (new) dark button background.
in map manager -> details of a offline map the descripion text appears twice
V4.27.0
Hello menion
I have just discovered by accident that a new version has been available
The white border around the north arrow is a small improvement but e.g. not enough.
Since the labelling of the map is always aligned legibly, the north arrow has a much greater meaning than before
My 1st time actually cycle touring with the compass icon, bright sun, though not latest beta. To be honest, a big backwards step for visibility. Why the change at all? I wish I could completely replace with own simple but highly visible version.
Why the change? I'm using only dark mode, so I've not noticed before (or just ignored it). Previously, the rotating button itself had a white background. As the only active icon on this screen. So definitely a bug. If you have an idea for a better icon, it is welcome.
Oki, we may discuss this next week(s).
The new version is out for now: https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=9137.0 .
It is mainly in the name of Android Auto + a bunch of changes. The next step for me is to finalize the new My Library + start work on new offline LoPoints V2 (that has to be prepared till the March). Never-ending story :)
Thanks for the help btw ;)
