@Diddi: There is a very recent update of the Geocaching4Locus addon in the Playstore. Maybe that will solve your problem, I haven't tried it.

@Menion: Manual segments now seem to be permanently retained with "Recalculate all", even after saving the route. Perfect.

I see that my phone updated the addon last night automatically, so I can't say which app causes the error.

The path can no longer be displayed for photos attached to a point.

Up to and including version 4.22.2, an info icon was displayed at the bottom right when the photo was opened, which could be used to call up the file path.

This no longer exists in the current version. Since I have attached photos from different folders on my device to points, I need this info and I would like to have it back.

The update also no longer works with version 4.22.2. Geocaching4Locus has been updated.

Supplement: It's about the "Navigate to" function, which calls up the "Select destination" menu. As the route is rarely created the right way round, I did some more testing. It seems that the error always occurs when there is a satfix before the destination is selected. If the GPS signal is still being searched for (message "Waiting for GPS...), the route is created correctly. Unfortunately, the normal case is that you already have your GPS and then the route is always displayed the wrong way round.

Furthermore, when starting the navigation (icon Quick navigation in the toolbar above) the assigned preset is not loaded reliably. Sometimes yes, sometimes no... I still have to see if I can find a reason for this.

hmm, I though you have a problem with the "update". Oki, this is a different problem. Sorry for this. Unfortunately, I've just now published a 4.23.1 version to Google Play, so this fix will have to wait till the next beta ...

One more reason to implement these features in Locus main app 8)

While searching for a way to update geocaches with V4.23.1, I encountered a problem.

For example, I have entered and saved the coordinates for a mystery that has a final WP without coordinates in the original.
If I search with the Locus "Live Map" or Locus "Search for geocaches" with filter "Mystery" and import them with "overwrite" the coordinates in the Final WP are set to 0 again.
This does not happen when importing a PQ!

Just to "update caches" > are you using the system mentioned by the balloni: cache detail > geocaching menu (usually top right corner) > update cache. This IS already natively implemented in the Locus Map and should work. G4L makes other "update" systems and I do not guarantee its functionality.

Since routing is being discussed...  I've got 4.22.2.  Yesterday while navigating a driving route, LoRouter repeatedly displayed on-screen a left turn, while speaking "Continue straight."  This happened roughly four times as the driver decided a better route was to continue straight.  (I had to explain, "This is weird, ignore the voice, turn left".)  It recalculated after missing the turn, next intersection, same thing: left turn shown on screen, spoken "Continue straight."

It occurred to me that maybe the router changed its mind, decided on a better route (as did the driver) which involved continuing straight, but the display was displaying an older route.  Seems unlikely.

I'm not sure how to debug this.  Please ignore if you think it'll just go away.

So updating a cache via tapping near the top, vs tapping a similar menu item at the bottom, go through different code paths?!?  I've always tapped at the bottom, and that stopped working.  (Just tried the tap-near-top path, yep, it works.)  I've solved the confusion for myself by uninstalling G4L, so long...

Hmm, the problem with incorrect navigation instructions won't go away without some work. Anyway, it is clear, that I really need to be able to simulate this issue  :-\

in the absence of network, the error message on the orange background is intrusive. To avoid seeing it I disabled the geocaching live map. Why not integrate these messages into locus notifications?

We continued driving west on 16A, missing left turns.  The router kept recalculating to take the next left (as displayed) but kept saying "Continue straight".  It did not say, "Continue straight, then after 10 metres, turn left", though I have it configured to do so, and it does when applicable.  Cheers.

I've just checked the code, just to be sure, and import over "search" and from "PQ" in the end use identical methods, so import also should be identical.

Menion, on an existing track, after "Recalculate all", the Navigation icons are ahown on the map.

Track overview image, nice, maybe you can distinguish between planned (with no timestamps) and finished tracks. First one needs no avg. speed and track time is an estimation, can be indicated.

Higher res. would be nice.

Bug #29 (problem with caption to a photo added to a LoPoint): solved. :)

New track overview (first impression): I am not (yet) convinced. The text (headline) seems too big to me, the map is pale and the resolution is poor. It's nice that you can hide the diagram and the statistics. It would be even better if the font size and colour could be configured.

I like the old overview better. I would be happy to offer both variants permanently.

I like the old track overview better. In comparison to the new one, these are its advantages:

– More map details --> more information about the track. An improvement of the old diagram could be to increase the image resolution to get a better quality when printed out (what I sometimes do to produce a backup paper map for hiking)
– No grey overlay --> Map is better readable and looks better when printed out
– more statistical information about the track
– The ratio between the map information and the font size makes more sense. When reading the map, you usually zoom in, why are the fonts so huge?
– hight diagram is easier to read (see comparison). An improvement of the old diagram could be to show more than one hight indicating (horizontal) line.

The new overwiew looks more like a thumbnail, I don't exactly understand the use case. When I wanted so send a track overview to someone who doesn't have Locus App, I would use the one with the best image resolution and the most (relevant) information about the track, so that the receiver gets the best idea of it.

thanks for the feedback. Purpose of this feature should be more as a small nice auto-generated preview for social media, not for print or deeper analysis.

I have a new Android 14 phone. I have 4.23.1 installed but seem to be having trouble installing the 4.23.1.1 beta. I have Developer options enabled, although now (FYI) for 14+ the setting for Install unknown apps has been moved to Settings > Security & privacy > More security settings, and is enabled on a per-app basis, in my case Solid Explorer. When I tap on the Install button there is a very quick "Staging" progress bar, then the dialog with Update button is displayed (see screen cap below). After tapping Update there is a quick return to the Solid Explorer App Viewer main screen whereas with older Android versions the "installing" screen stayed on for a few minutes. I'm assuming the 53.1MB package is not corrupt. Any suggestions please?

thanks T-mo. I should have mentioned I had used the package installer first. Sorry for any confusion. APK is 55,678,161 bytes. I downloaded another - same size. I can only assume some weird Samsung/ Android 14 security issue? I uninstalled LM4.23.1 then was able to install 4.23.1.1 ;-)

no, don't worry, there is still the Livemap
It makes no difference whether locus is already running or has just been started via this link.

In the meantime I have noticed that the import with the "GC code" and the GCtools does not work either

Btw in the previous Beta was also highly reduced battery consumption during track recording when the screen was on. On my device, during 3h simulated recording, it was reduced from 30% to 18% (only when the screen is on).

Share track to Google Earth: Track with only outline colour (fully transparent base line) cannot be displayed in Google Earth.

Share Image & stats creates two graphics. The first with the map and the second with a background image (standard photo with boots). I can change the background image, e.g. a single-colour background. But only the second graphic can be shared. Not the first one with the map. There is no share icon. See screenshots.

With the last beta I had mentioned I had to uninstall 4.23.1 before I could install 4.23.1.1. With the latest beta there is no option to install/ upgrade at all, just "Launch" weird. Fortunately I can retain data/ turn off LM4 device admin/ uninstall/ install.

@Menion - quite interesting - in my battery measurements (for your interest) I now record actual current (mA) using Tasker rather than just battery % (which was quite inaccurate if just a short period). In the following graph I generally find with all other processes killed (as much as possible) the standby current 5..10mA, and with LM4 track recording, screen off 45..60mA.

LM4 route planner - you can't drag down (collapse) the bottom panel of route planner before the 1st navigation point is created - see my taps - the panel pops back up - intended? I don't need to see "Select Start" & "Select Destination".

Then you could add an option to the navigation line so that the gradient is also displayed in the middle.
The pink on the left and right and the gradient in the middle.
It's very useful on the road. That way I can see how long the steep incline will last. Or I can see when a steep section is coming up.

That is too far removed from the original. Would fit into the custom line. But it has a few disadvantages compared to the original.
Original in the middle the slope (as wide as the arrows). The area where it is already worn down could remain as it is.

I would also like to see the road condition on the map from time to time. But due to the many colors, the demarcation of the line to the map is missing.

As being an expert I am using expert settings, and here 'Fullscreen mode' in particular 8)
Once again Locus starts with an additional black bar at top, which goes away once screen enters a Fullscreen-dialog, i.e. settings, track edit, route planning, then Fullscreen is working perfectly fine.
Though mentioned and corrected several times, zillion sort of, it seems that the used code or mechanism seems not being robust enough, checking bar states, or does not survive releases.

Works for me, sort of... Don't complain. Your only option is to not use it. Menion removed and wanted to get rid of it and just because we asked, he moved it into the expert settings. He should probably only allow it via the config file.

Updated all my UK OS map tiles this morning, cost a few pounds, and they all appear a bit softer on screen that the last set, just a touch less sharp, but noticeably so.

This is a consistent friend now.

I've been having that since the new side bar was implemented (1yr ago? 1.5?)- then Menion said he couldn't reproduce and I kinda learned to ignore it as aesthetic error and disappears once I select another map. But would be nice if it was fixed finally.

the last (or previous version) was generated from a CMYK raster and there is a step that converts CMYK to RGB. Do you know if you updated from some slightly older version? Is there any older map on your device, so we can compare them? Thanks, Petr

I'm finding very recently when I enable or disable WiFi or mobile data that LM4 crashes each time. I've emailed a crash report. Has anyone else experienced this?

Crash when going online/offline > I think I've got it. You have edited one shared track and a moment later deleted it (probably). The app still tries to work with edited shared track, but it has already been deleted. I'll publish the fixed Beta tomorrow.

@menion - I really hope so, but I think it is more general (for me). And appears unrelated to any current LM4 action. Just happens no matter what I am doing when a change of comms status (on > off > on). And only in recent versions.

It works!!
99% flawlessly.
The 1% is at app-start and changes if some fullscreen-dialog is entered  e.g. settings, so it's more 0.5%.
This 0.5% was solved once, but sometimes things change.
It's just feedback to optimize LM.
If you have doublechecked the mechanism and code and it's superduper-tricky at all, then nothing to complain and good to know.
I just have coded too much in my life to sometimes not recognize unknown barriers.

I tested it outside this morning and it's as annoying as I feared. I stop and after about a minute the announcement comes on. Do I now have to listen to it every time I have to wait a little longer at a traffic light, meet a friend on the road and want to have a quick chat, read an information board or need a quick wee? :)

Please NO! I urgently want to get rid of it or be able to deactivate it.

New function "Notification on invalid pause and pending recording states":

Hello Menion, even though I am not a friend of the new function, I would have a few suggestions for improvement if this function is to be included in the next stable version:

It would be good to have a settings menu similar to the point alert (see screenshot). There you can enable the function and also set the type of notification (sound, beep, text-to-speech).

I don't think the current visual notification (orange-coloured message box) is ideal because it usually indicates errors or problems. Perhaps it would be easiest to open the screen automatically and display the track recording panel, where the three large buttons "stop", "pause" and "add point" can be seen at the bottom. Then you can quickly press the desired button (screenshot 2).

But these are only suggestions.

There is still the long standing bug present, that if you zoom a vector map in and out quite often, the theme kind of gets drawn multiple times, making it look darker than it should. Happens with all themes, even built in ones. It affects mainly wood areas for me, but also other solid and opaque colours, but not textures.

more testing: pause recording, disable satellite, ..., resume recording - immediate incorrect message instead waiting for satellite to be enabled.

Where do I find that? I seem to be overlooking the right pointer. Searching in settings for "pause", "recording", or "notification" to no avail.

Which reminds me of something else:
Would it be possible to make the Locus version easier accessible? I first looked for this new function before I realized I didn't have the newest beta. Right now you need 3 clicks plus scrolling to get to the app info screen. At least the version could easily be shown in the bottom bar of the main menu (where it now says e.g. "LOCUS MAP GOLD"). And then perhaps make that bar clickable to get directly to App Info.

thanks for the feedback. I had to make them always enabled to force you test it  ;D. Anyway good ideas, thanks. I need to keep it simple, because storing full "notification dialog" settings within a recording profile is currently more complicated. So, I've at least made these two notifications optional (settings in every profile), increased the time when the notification appears (to 5 minutes in case of pending recording and 3 minutes in case of invalid pause), and changed notification from "warning" (orange) to just "info" (green).

Thank you! Seems to be a good solution for now.

But if someone wants to use the function, the increased times for pending recording (5 min.) might be too long - After a stop, you have already ride/walked a good distance until the message appears. But it is difficult to find an optimal value for all users and usecases.

will be forever debating. 5m definitely sounds too long. just 1 or 2m for me would be great... once reliable. as reported a TTS notification is heard as soon as un-pause, which is not right.

One interesting piece of news (for someone) -> possibility of adding ratings and comments to online LoPoints! We still believe we should be able to create a usable database of useful places with photos, mainly for hike & bike usage. Offline version (so online and offline LoPoints (almost) identical) is planned on rest of this year.

And second, partially secret (for now) -> you should now receive 1 LoCoin for every uploaded and validated photo. So 2099 photos -> Gold for one year :)

One minute was in the previous version. For now, five minutes is better than nothing  ;). Once it is reliable good enough, we may discuss sooner notification or some extra adjustments. I also need to test it more in the field and not sit permanently behind the desk :)

The option to (de)activate the notifications is well placed in the profiles.

0.5 steps are completely sufficient. Everyone has daily fluctuations that they are not aware of. Or there is something more to see on the way.
I also thought my steps were too long at the beginning. But in practice, smaller ones don't make sense later on.

I would also like to have something like this when cycling. But then 1 or 2 km steps would be enough.

You're right. I have a fairly stable walking speed of 4.3 km/h and would therefore have liked to adjust this, but now I will planning with 4.0 km/h and have a buffer. I can live with that.

Speed parameter for other bike profiles - we will be working on it next week(s).
Also in custom profiles? Please don't ask me  :). The app should now support all custom profiles - so the page for external profiles should be identical to what you see on the BRouter web planner.
