every time I change profile, eg the signature, the text fields are populated with my user name, no matter what the prior values were.

harder to solve. Something similar (pre-filled fields with unwanted values) happens to me as well. There seem to be some updated of this SMF system, so I'll try to update the forum system if it helps.
So updated ... no change in my case :)

Missed your reply. Yes, still happening. But not in Chrome, it seems. Only in Soul browser here.
