Title: Add LoPoints
Post by: AWo on September 10, 2023, 14:21:22
While on my holiday in Ireland we found a large ship wreck, which is also marked in Google Maps and which owns a Wiki article (and more spots....the wreck is just one example).

However it is not a LoPoint (yet).

How can users influence the creation of LoPoints or even add them? Is there a team or something deciding on what becomes a LoPoint and what nit?

The source data is from OpenStreetMap.
Position?

What category of Lopoint should it be?

It is the wreck of the Port Lairge and it is already on OpenStreetMap. If not, I would have added it.

However, my question was how does something from OpenStreetmap become a LoPoint. Is that a manual process and do we have an influence to that?

N 52.235864° W 6.805366°

It could be a culture&tourist LoPoint, as you can visit the wreck, look inside etc.

But there are more, the spectacular bridge at the Mizen Head signal station for example.

The category is decided by OSM. The wreck exists: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/474433794.
Probably up to ASAMM to include it.

If there is a team for that kind of work, I would apply for it.

You can make a suggestion in the helpdesk to include this category. Others can then also vote for it.

Hello all. There is a fully automated process that updates (changes e.g. names, websites, opening hours), disables or adds new points of interest. No human interaction involved. The logic may be sometimes a bit complex - e.g. "planed" or "demolished" map features are not added or are disabled, some frequent objects (cliffs, trees) have to be named or marked as a landmark, e.t.c. Yesterday some of you mapped in the osm db the wreck as inaccessible tourist attraction, so in a few days (during next update run) the point with red fence in detail (inaccessible place) should pop up in Locus. There will be no wikipedia - an id pointing to wikidata knowledge graph is currently needed for that. If somebody adds this link to osm, wiki will be processed on the 22 this month. There is already related tourist attraction - a propeller from this ship. Propeller (https://web.locusmap.app/poi/32890904) Anyway wrecks in general (not tourist attraction tagged) are not considered and it is a good idea to include them. They will be added in the next batched addition.

Another question to this topic, I stay with the example of the wreck... (which is accessible, btw.)

Often I see two LoPoint marks at the same place with the same name. Both with the possibility to upload pictures.

Why is thst and which one too choose?

You have probably activated LoPoints offline AND online.
There are many LoPoints that are available both online and offline, in which case both are displayed.
