I have been unable to figure out how to open and html file from within Locus and if I open the file directly my applications options to open the file do not show Locus...

Just wondering if there is any update on this issue?

The file shows up as an html file on the other device in the Bluetooth folder.

Here is the contents of the file. Would really like to get this working..

<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/></head><body><a href="http://mapof.it/h/cbjjyv3fg81v">http://mapof.it/h/cbjjyv3fg81v</a></p></body></html>

Troubles & Questions / Sharing between devices
August 02, 2011, 15:50:57
A long time ago (last winter) I requested a feature to allow sharing a waypoint or center of the map between devices. Someone had suggested the feature was already there so I played around with it and simply cannot get it to work over bluetooth (didn't try others cause I would not have cell service where I would use this). Everything seems to work, the bluetooth connection is made and a file shows up on the other device but there is no way to open the file in Locus. Please help!

First of all I must say what an awesome GPS app this is! At this point I have pretty much decided to sell my Garmin and water proof my HTC EVO because it works so good.

Ok, here is my wishlist...
1. Would like an option to set the color and width of tracks on import. Right now I need to basically change the system settings then import.
2. Option to change color or width of track from the map screen by highlighting then select menu -> edit.
3. Option to swap buttons from top and bottom to sides. In landscape you would have a lot more visible map if the buttons could be on the sides.
4. A way to share a waypoint and/or current cursor position with another copy of Locus via bluetooth or Wifi (preferred). I had originally requested this to work with a garmin but forget the garmin! :) In my case I would like to have my EVO mounted on my sled/motorcycle/etc and pull out my tablet to find a location then beam it to my EVO. Right now I use an EVO and a Nook. The Nook does not have GPS but I found client/server app called tetherGPS that allows the Nook to get the GPS info from the EVO over Wifi. It's pretty common to tether to a phone for data so I think doing this over wifi makes the most since. This would be a very cool feature!
5. Support for some type of vector maps (google?). I think it would be nice to be able to load up an entire state map for general use. Using the graphic maps requires too much data at all the zoom levels. Don't get me wrong if I could choose one or the other I would take the graphics maps in a heartbeat but I think the ability to load up vector maps to cover larger areas for daily use would be nice.
6. Would be nice to have some type of night mode for night driving.

Keep up the great work! Probably my favorite Android application!

Thanks,
Robin

Not sure I understant the 1 SQL file per map zoom. Are you saying I can create many different SQL map files for each zoom level and Locus will automatically switch between them when I zoom? If I need to select a different map for each zoom I don't think that is a very good solution.

So it sounds like using the internal map fetch method does not have the 2GB limit that SQLlite does? I sure prefer making my maps on the computer though. Is there any solution to using larger then 2GB maps AND creating them on the computer?

Love the daily updates! Could you re-enable large maps but maybe just display a warning? It seems that with the txt file trick we can get maps that are at least a little larger then 2GB to work fine...

Can we use big (2GB+) maps in tar format? I haven't used tar yet so I don't know what the disavantages are. I have many 10GB+ maps I would like to use... :)

Troubles & Questions / Re: Garmin Map conversion
January 18, 2011, 20:35:20
I'll send a couple samples of the .trk and .plt files. I think .trk would be preferred cause when I export from Mapdekode I get 1 .trk file vs. many .plt files.

As for the Garmin maps... I have something called Roads and Recreation that has logging/trails roads that I can't find in any other maps so in my case I go through the effort convert/export the map details. I however will note that I NEED to overlay the garmin maps on top of the Sat/Earth maps so I think my need is different then the other guys.

That would be a great feature but I doubt it will be added due to complexity of the Garmin img (polish) format. I used Mapdekode to export all the map lines to .plt files (oziexplorer) then use Oziconverter to convert to gpx format and import the gpx files. The only problem is there ends up being a LOT of tracks (why I requested the select all tracks button). Not sure if we are going to run in a limitation or performance issue with the number of tracks or not.

That being said it would be nice if Locus would import .plt (ozi) or .trk (garmin pcx5 track) format.

Awesome, thanks for adding the select all tracks option so quick!!

The reason for the other request is as follows... Many of us may need to use Locus in extreme conditions (i.e. winter/snow, summer/boating, etc) and having an Android phone/tablet out in the open could ruin the device very quickly. Im my case I have weather proof Garmin Oregon mounted on my snowmobile. I use Locus to see the sat maps of an area to find logging roads and play areas but I can't have the device in view while riding so would love to be able to find something on Locus and make a waypoint where I need to make a turn or head in a certain direction to another waypoint. I could create the waypoints on Locus then send them to my Garmin so I can navigate better under extreme conditions.

If you can add something like this someday that would be sweet but if not I understand. It's already an awesome app and you will certainly be getting a donation from me.

BTW: The 2GB map limit was a big concern but sounds like you have that fixed now? If not can I use larger maps if I use a tar format?

Implemented / select all track, track color change
January 11, 2011, 20:12:24
Would like the ability to select all tracks with a single button press and the ability to change the color of individual tracks.

Also it would be very sweet if you could add the abilty to share POI/Tracks with Garmin Oregon/Colorado/Dakota GPSes via bluetooth (if possible).

Thanks, great app!
