Hi guys.
Again big help with work on this new version. Not everything is probably final. Field test may reveal some remaining problems in the new compute of elevation values + prepared support for new V4 LoMaps...
The last few weeks were not too productive in the "Locus for Android" world. I've promised to prepare support for DXF to Locus GIS for Petr and in the end, I've spent almost three weeks on preparing the GDAL library, uff. Most work is finally done so time to spend more time with Locus Map, finally :).
We have of course some plans and things that need to be done, but still ... simple question (that may influence my personal preferences). What is the biggest pain/requirement you mostly have with the app, I should solve during the next cca 3-9 months? I have in mind a few main categories:
- backup system (united small and full backup & allow to set personal preferences what to backup)
- improve dashboard (missing items, simplify edit, improve charts, ...)
- management of the track waypoints (old topic)
- missing geocaching features (long list of missing features starting by live-map, mass edit & upload of notes etc)
Anything else serious?
Quote from: Menion on March 08, 2023, 13:38:21Anything else serious?
The Lopoints system of temporary points. Awkward handling, allow predefine sets of categories etc.
My wish would be this.
https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/weekmonth-recording-statistics
Then I can finally remove my speedometer.
And working with LoPoi (online, offline) and OAM POI. Which are displayed (no duplicates)
https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/how-to-choose-poi%C2%B4s-offline-db-poi
and if much time is still these
https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/track-planner-integrate-existing-tracks-into-route
https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/vibration-and-vocal-announcements-navigation-on-wear
https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/22366-edit-poi-data-and-send-to-osm
Ok.... much time we never have here.
Is some form simple of voting system for suggested areas worthwhile for deciding priorities? It's been used in the past. Take top 10 (say) most voted unstarted help topic suggestions as a starting point? Ask via Locus news that people can shape the next LM version 5. 15 minor releases sounds like nothing major has happened for too long. It's not my opinion but maybe a perception.
Personally, better point management (already underway) & dashboard with own buttons.
I know very unlikely but a 3D map view would be awesome;-)
If I must choose it's clearly dashboard.
But I can even live with 6 month of nothing. Locus Map is in a good state.
Thanks guys.
@Andrew Heard , I'm not boring at home with no idea what to do :). Anyway, I have a few categories where priorities are not perfectly clear and because most of you had a huge influence on the app during all these years, I would like to read some of your priorities. So thanks for sharing, appreciate it!!
I don't think a 3D map is absolutely necessary, but sometimes I want to know the topography of where I am while hiking.
The Locus team will take care of whether or not to apply the 3D map, but looking at the way Orux Maps uses it these days, it looks okay.
I think there are people who know
Orux seems to use Mapbox, but how about Locus also supporting Mapbox 3D maps?
If you need a 3D map, you should subscribe to the Gold subscription, and if you want to use the Mapbox 3D map in Silver, it would be better to pay a separate amount.
Quote from: baegas on March 09, 2023, 04:06:21I don't think a 3D map is absolutely necessary
@baegas - of course not, was just personal opinion
Like the successful Locus/ BRouter collaboration, LM could collaborate with similar 3D developer (mapbox?) instead of writing from scratch. But I have no idea. Thanks for the info.
My priorities:
- User Settings Backup - now for me to send a file to the cloud for more than half an hour
- Working with Lopoints - adding new Lopoint including photos, editing text and names Lopoint.
Quote from: Andrew Heard on March 08, 2023, 20:46:43I know very unlikely but a 3D map view would be awesome
a can of worms. SCNR.
Have you tried 3D apps for terrain on a smartphone already? I did, after all wasn't fun to use. I doubt it's worth putting it into Locus.
Andrew raises a good point, being able to better judge the terrains elevation could be improved. The simple grey hill shading isn't helpful enough.
Currently the best way IMO is using colored elevation.
But.
a) This is too hidden in Locus
b) People won't have the necessary cpt files for data/interpolators. Too complicated.
c) It is in need of a better overlay algorithm. We discussed it. See screenshot.
Really useful for planning. I've attached files for 300-900m elevation, if anyone is interested.
I think, Locus could do much more here. The information that is in the cpt files is easy, can be algorithmically generated. It could all be done by Locus internally on the fly, so that on UI side it just offers an easy way to set the currently needed elevation. Like with a slider.
Or what if Locus had a quick toggle for 2-finger pinching? In one mode, zoom map, in the other mode, change base elevation in the colored elevation... Just ideas. Maybe I'm a bit optimistic, but if colored elevation is made easy and well promoted it could be a killer feature and all of you @ Asamm millionaires. Almost.

1) management of the track waypoints (not surprisingly my favorite ;)
2) improve dashboard (missing items, simplify edit, improve charts, ...)
I would add
3) rotating labels in vector maps (or, rather, make labels non-rotating in relation to the (rotating) map. That's the main area where Locus just looks so much worse than other concurrent map apps - and of course it's not just looks when actually navigating...
4) better overlay handling, e.g. with overlay presets. For example, I have overlays with hike routes, skiing routes, public transportation stops, all are best at different alpha values, changing between them is such a pain that I usually don't use the feature, even though it's quite good in principle.
Another big wish: Try to integrate Falcos Tasker addon into Asamm or at least ask him, my impression is he has abandoned it, but idk.
Quote from: Menion on March 08, 2023, 13:38:21)
- missing geocaching features (long list of missing features starting by live-map, mass edit & upload of notes etc)
I would like to see features from the field notes add on incorporated into the app. Also, Adventure Lab Caches.
Quotemissing geocaching features (long list of missing features starting by live-map, mass edit & upload of notes etc)
This is my favorite point too.
- Please continue the started process to substitute the addon G4L. (Import of one named cache, live chart ...)
- define multiple different filters
I often use special filters for different situations and it's a struggle to define and change all filterelements case by case (without a mistake 😚)
- include LabCaches
confirm #13 + #14
besides adding the missing functions of GC4L and Fieldnotes, the accumulated improvements of your geocaching task list ;)
Quote from: Tapio on March 09, 2023, 08:57:31Have you tried 3D apps for terrain on a smartphone already? I did, after all wasn't fun to use.
@tapio - thanks - no I haven't tried 3D apps but have planned & ridden bad routes (according to my riding partner) because I didn't avoid the steep hills. It is far more reliable with track slope coloring & hill shading than 6 years ago. Remember route planning can be done on a larger tablet or even virual PC screen... maybe ;-) Just from a promotional point of view LM5 needs more than just minor incremental changes & a point of difference to competitors.
@tapio reminds me... Here's another small idea: long tap any place on map to display own custom context menu: at present long tap may display address @ tap position, but all sorts of other actions would also be possible, and efficiently handled via users menu.
@Andrew,yes...I have turned off "Address on longtap". Would instantly bind it to a quick action (and then Tasker task) if it was available. And probably let it spit out nicely formatted address, with gmaps URL and Pluscode, all the good stuff.
@menion nicely formatted advanced computed sync plan! thanks
my ideas, personal preferences:
optimize layout and appearance, intents + contrast / cards-style, eye-symbols (like points and tracks), sorting (allow manual repositioning and maybe some half-smart-approach based on number of usage, maybe switchable and/or combined), categories (e.g. I potentially only need the 5 ski-sport-POI-groups during winter), the whole UI-experience
- expert setting: theme-panel (layers)
available with 1-click at symbol > Map-screen content > theme. Current Map-themes (list, overview) then by using long-press at symbol.
like you noted sure, as being basic and essential
- combined search through settings + features
like search triggers both current searches and combines the results, different symbols and maybe collapsible groups
Optimizations. Honestly I am very happy Locus is already super evolved and powerful. Really like the new and upcoming changes towards MapsForge and themes.
You will also need to improve search. It should work simultaneously in addresses and points.
I remember this

2 months and 2 versions ago and still not solved.
I tried the openstreetmap planner and all the possible profiles (Valhalla, OSRM, GraphHopper) they allow passage on the military road while locus does not.

Buddy tracking... sharing points & tracks with buddy... basically anything that's needed when you travel with a friend. These things pretty much remain in the same sad state since multiple years now, no fixes, no enhancements, no nothing. I've kind of given up on the topic, but since you asked... that's one point where Locus is seriously lacking.
Quote from: Žajdlík Josef on March 10, 2023, 10:16:41You will also need to improve search. It should work simultaneously in addresses and points.
I completely agree. Locus search is pure usability horror from last century. A proper search is ONE SINGLE TEXT FIELD that simply searches EVERYTHING at once and shows results as they come in.
Making me decide in advance on where I want to search is just wrong on every level imaginable.
Regarding hiding of UI elements to prevent Burnin: Latest beta makes everything disappear nicely, except the red track recording button. I configured it to hide as well, but it doesn't.
The copyright button also cannot be be hidden. 50% will only delay the damage, not fix it.
Fully agree - one text input field only.
However, sometimes there is a reason to restrict scope (latest when you are swamped by the all-in results.
Hence, there should be a expando below the text field, that has all buttons ticked by default, so people CAN restrict at will, in case of need. The buttons may mimick the current list of search sources.
Just my 2c :-)

Hi guys, nice bunch of ideas, thanks. So when I noted and analyzed all, seems that we have here four major categories
- better work with online/offline LoPoints
- robust search system
- dashboard improvements
- geocaching features
Where
2. search system is currently (already for a few months) in massive rework. During the next week or two will be in Beta a completely new online search. More about it later ...
LoPoints & Dashboard are very high on my priority list, so definitely something I would like to work on this year.
And geocaching ... good question. Will have to think a little more.
---
Other smaller tasks
- backup system: agree, I'll look at it soon
- 3D maps: huge amount of work that still does not worth it I believe
- recording statistics: I would love to see them too, but we are not the majority :)
- live tracking: I know, sorry
@joeloc. This has to start with a rework of our old server and uniting it to a new web.locusmap.app site. I'll try to push it a little more.
Thank you Menion.
I would like to add Management of Track Waypoints as No. 5.
As for now, when I plan my hiking trips, I use embedded waypoints, so that the track file is able to be sent to my trekking partner as a complete KML file. These embedded waypoints can't be managed properly. I would like to be able to search for them, display them in a certain radius around the cursor etc.
So my workaround is saving every embedded waypoint twice – within the track and as a "standalone" version in my points folder. This is more work for me, but also raises problems, like when I edit a point in the points folder, it doesn't change in the corresponding track and vice versa.
A second thing would be the improvement of data sharing (e.g. via shared folder).
Best, Lucas
As I agree on "One text field" completely, deciding what is important enough to deserve user attention may be just guesswork. Even if we keep track of history by users, it may be easier if you just tell us e.g. "don't want to search my personal content now".

Hi everyone,
About backup system, would it make sense and possible to consider to backup external sensors settings (paired with Locus)?
Quote from: luce on March 13, 2023, 12:23:41I would like to add Management of Track Waypoints as No. 5.
Yes, please don't forget about this. There's a bunch of improvements needed here, many very basic (it's not even possible to multi-select and delete trackpoints!)
Hi, isn't there a way to not have LM import additional properties from gpx, like links? See screenshot.
And furthermore, there is no way to remove them with Locus.
Should these navigation commands
NavCommands.png
not be disabled by this switch?
Setting.png
In case switch is for somerhing else. How can I turn off these symbols on map without disabling navigation commands in route planner?
Ah. Looks like these commands are left overs from old versions of the track and not longer part of the track.
Reroute the track doesn't help but they can be deleted manually one by one.
Here it's good to see:
Screenshot_20230313-211736_Locus Map.png
seems like text-parsing of gpx-import isn't fully working
similar to this behaviour https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=5065.0 (https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=5065.0)
maybe Tapio's result is also due to this?

... or to embed multiple waypoints into a track at once.
@luce
Improved sharing & generally better work with points & tracks at once ... this is something we started work on last year, also because of the new iOS version. Not sure if results will be available this year on Android, but for sure next year and it will be a really nice big change ... you will see ;)
@Mick FU
settings of paired sensors are already backed in the "Backup of settings". There is most probably the problem in restoration, that the app may not always correctly detect sensors under the old known "ID". So it is harder to solve.
@Tapio
long click to delete attachments does not work? Anyway, there is no way to exclude links automatically. You may edit GPX manually ...
@CabrioTourer
Navigation commands > should be hidden. If they aren't it usually means, that for some reason, the connection between the track and these waypoints breaks and they are no longer considered as navigation points, but ordinary waypoints. ... ah, seems you find this. The question is why and how this happened.
I found a reproducible bug in current version 4.15.0:
Buttons that are normally shown in the side bar are incorrectly displayed in the bottom bar after following the steps shown in the video: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AredTfs4J1f5gu5em-KdKUBg1UJ82A
The bug occurs after turning my phone from portrait to landscape and back while looking at the detailed height profile.
Settings file attached.
Best, Lucas
Quote from: Menion on March 14, 2023, 13:08:47@Tapio

No. There's no way to remove any kind of URL.
@luce
I'm rotating with the phone like crazy and no problem as you have, interesting. When you open different screen, like GPS/skyplot, any points/tracks/manager, rotates and return back > no problem or is it same in all cases?
@Tapio
ah, it is a track. Hmm, track support attachments only partially. It allows to import links and display them, but there is no option to simply add/remove/edit them. Sorry :)
I tried different screens now, I used different tracks for testing – nothing. Only the height profile produces this issue... :-\
Asking us beta users for top suggestions is nice/ kind but I don't think we are representitive of the average LM user. I'd like to see the phone accelerometer used for motion/ stopped detection. There is a long standing help topic with lots of votes & @menion wrote it was being considered.
I think the app must become more attractive for Geocaching. I'm personally not interested in it, also I guess Menion doesn't do it. But they are a big and important community. [Removed Apple bashing]
Quote from: Andrew Heard on March 15, 2023, 04:27:49I'd like to see the phone accelerometer used for motion/ stopped detection.

@slarti76 - I think @Menion used an Android API to access motion status, but not specifically the accelerometer. I have 2 other apps - motion-based bike alarm, and ZTest sensors test which both work perfectly well for detecting when stopped.
main suggestion https://help.locusmap.eu/topic/improved-stop-detection-and-distance-calculation-with-a-speed-sensor, idea from 4 years ago, 24 votes, menion last wrote 1.5 years ago about major sensor rewrite...
Another two tiny issues, with a major consequences, were found and fixed:
- on some devices, the app did not record any points (because of problematic detection of correct point precision)
- and also someone may suffer from slow GPX import
Uff, so another version was published. This one was not planned and already contains more untested code than I would like. Anyway, it's out ...
Menion, in the hidden state, I noticed the bottom bar (Always visible) behaves differently depending on how the zoom buttons are set (Always show/Auto hide).
I think, Locus should use the second layout if no center button visible. But if we hide the center button, it picks the first layout and leaves this big notch where the button was before.
My guess is, you have accidentally linked the second layout to the Zoom buttons instead of the centering button.
I have applied below settings via a preset.

Something I noticed again recently, but I think it's been like that for a while:
On my tab (Galaxy Tab S5e), Locus shows the track and point details as panel on the right in landscape, which is good. In portrait, however, tracks are shown on the bottom (good!), but points on the right, taking 50% of the screen (with only a few lines of text and lots of white space) - really bad!

The question is why and how this happened.
It's the same reason why sometimes the shaping points lost. You remember. The loonnng time issue we never found and were not able to reproduce it.
This time I'm a bit sure it depend on not enough memory. I edited a tour in tour planner on medirore tablet. Exit Tour planner without saving. Did something else which resulted in a Locus crash. (I guess bcs not enough memory. Same thing works on my flagship smartphone without problem but crashes often on tablet)
Somewhere in this scenario the shaping points are lost and navigation commands lost there tour connection.
Another topic.
Because it's not possible to change email address in Locus I want to start Premium from scratch.
This time the funny thing without Google.
First issue is. The payment without Google is very hidden inside the FAQ. Every direct way uses Google. Looks like self payment without Google is "not wanted".
Therefor I tried the hard way. Added a new account. Open FAQ, Goto voucher Website. Selected to buy a gold premium voucher for myself. Selected paypal. It opened paypal website not in my standard browser. I guess via Android Webview?
Not ideal bcs I have some security concerns. (Second point on my issue list)
Just decided that Locus should be a good guy. Entered email and passwort and Site asked for second factor.
Now the third issue. Changed to Authenticator App to get the code. Now there is no way to go back to entering the code in Webview. Recent App list shows Locus but not the Webview paypal page.
I found no way to go back. At least when I stick to one device usage.
How this should work? Is it something special on my smartphone (Android 13, AOSP)
or a not tested scenario?

Awww,the headaches are back again 😁
And my impression was, it's some database issue. Maintainance and something gets lost there? Loss of shaping points is happening with older tracks mostly. They seem to age badly.
@Tapio
the layout of the bottom panel starting to be too complicated :). I'll look at it, thanks
@luce
hmm, one more remaining issue with weather > forecast after 10 pm for "tomorrow" does not display full tomorrow day. So one more fix ...
@CabrioTourer
Thanks for the feedback!
1. issue: it is hidden because we can't inform users in the app published on Google Play about the option to purchase the app out of Google Play!! Simple, logical, and limiting ...
2. open the FAQ made over the Chrome tag. It may look like an internal app view, but it isn't, it is a virtual browser provided by the installed Chrome browser.
3. this issue is complicated. When you choose a Locus Map, it should display again the last app screen, that is in your case web page with the voucher purchase. It does not work like this? .... I'm testing it and it works correctly for me!

Ah sorry, I've united the system so it will work identically for points and tracks now (track style), and forget to write it here.

I downloaded Germany-North 04.04.2023 today, zip, v5, and it's working fine with Elevate and with newer LoMaps-MF-beta-theme (https://github.com/asamm/lomaps-mapsforge) and VoluntaryUK-MF-beta-theme.
Haven't checked any map-feature though. Citynames and name-priority are somewhat different between themes.
All these different numbers are irritating, V4 here,V5 there, I suggest to call the new beta-themes simply MF-themes, as not being Locus-specific.
@T-mo
Sorry about the theme versioning. I'm not sure how Voluntary arrived at version 5, except it has v5 in the first line of the theme. Sadly it has to be Locus specific as Locus uses a pre release version of Mapsforge and also treats routes totally differently from OAM. The theme has various workarounds in order to function with both Lomaps and OAM maps on Locus (but on no other app at present)
The beta version is being updated regularly at present.

Quote from: T-mo on April 05, 2023, 18:02:06I downloaded Germany-North 04.04.2023 today,
As for the Germany.zip, it was a faulty download on my end - the map works.
I like the new backup manager. The only thing I would have liked is mapitems/Calibrated_maps
So the new
Beta version 4.15.2.4 was published.
I was quite sure, that it will already contain a new search system, but we are trying to make it perfect even for the Beta version, so a few more days are necessary. At least an improved Backup manager as
@freischneider already noticed and few more tweaks.
@Tapio are there any exact steps that cause this issue? Even on your side?

Thx, it is solved as I said in https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?msg=71053
Was a broken download.
New backup manager, good. Terminology could be better, maybe 'Processing' instead of "Loading". Also when it's finished and you congratulate, the bottom right button should be named "OK". Imo that intermediate congrats screen is too much.
If everything is checked, you could just write "Everything" or "Full"... , so we don't need to double check. Screenshot
beta 4.15.2.4
1. is initialization during start different? Now loading instead of detailed list, though it was always quite fast
Backup manager
2. content, left to select-button: IMHO text is of no value. Honestly a shortened enumeration missing details instead of a list never makes sense to me. I suggest using a list, maybe in smaller font size if used screen-space is a matter. I suggest to begin with summary like:
Full Backup: NO
Enabled items: 9/10
item1
item2
(item3 not listed as being disabled)
item4
...
...
Just an idea.
3. status & details during processing missing. Any processing >1s should provide details about what's going on.
4. I am with Tapio, wording: "loading" during a saving-action is not the best choice
5. Congrats! (just sharing my impressions) :D
I'd agree with @tapio & @T-mo on most points. Overall - excellent improvement.
- change "loading" to "processing" or even "backing up"
- the list of words in my content left of the SELECT button was even more truncated, but I feel a full list like @T-mo suggests is a waste of screen space. How about the truncated list is replaced with just "<N> of 10 items", or "none" if <N> = 0 or "all" if <N> = 10 - sufficient & compact, and unlikely to change from manual backup to backup, so the user will see their usual (eg) "9" and know it's correct.
- I agree with @T-mo it would be nice to see more detail during the "processing" although I suspect most time is with processing tracks, so similar issue to Cloud Sync
- I agree on final "OK" button name
I have noticed the following message twice on Android 8.1 in last few weeks - but only twice, and never before this recent time. Am 99.9% sure the battery settings are set correctly - battery usage:not optimised, otherwise would LM4 display this message each time it is run?

It would be nice to add the output path in
manual backup dialog. I don't ask for possibility to change it. Just for information in case someone forgott the setting.
Like me
;D
I don't want to annoy you. But when I look at the zip content of backup file it looks pretty easy to add the nogo file there. ::)
Hi guys,
thanks for the tests. I forget to mention that the backup manager is in the "beta" version. So thanks for the feedback, I'll improve it for sure.
@T-mo
initialization ... hmm, nothing should change here. The loading screen is visible in case, more points/tracks need to be loaded at the start.
@Andrew Heard
interesting. I do not know why this happens so rarely to be true. This method do some internal testing and checking if the device really tries to kill the Locus Map and if the app detects it, it informs. If you consider this as false-positive report, simply "Ignore it".
I should not talk about "Last version with old function X" etc, because the new Beta version 4.15.2.5 with the old search system has just been published.
Many internal fine-tunings & a final improved version of the backup manager.
Enjoy the weekend!
4.15.2.5: @menion I think the new text for Manual Backup "Content" is a good an improvement over the previous truncated text. Thanks.

"Maps" could be confusing (user may think Locus makes backup of vector maps), but I have no better idea... not too important.
I sometimes feel the itch to trigger the auto backup NOW (it backups a different set of files), maybe Menion can add an additional button into the auto backup dialog?
Menion, could you add an expert setting to enable long-press on theme-button to directly jump to theme's StyleMenu for quick access, so overriding theme-selection dialog?
A variant of this option (expert setting) could be, normal click jumps to theme's stylemenu - to change settings of active theme (enable routes, trails etc., change style), and long-click to open themes-selection menu - to switch to another theme, which might be less often.
With expert setting enabled the icon might appear in e.g. neon-pink colour :D
I like T-Mos idea. Because the way to themes settings is a bit far, and it's often needed. IMO, to be logical and consistent, it should be like this:
Theme short: Themes settings
Theme long: list all themes
- can be vice versa because of habit...
Map short: As it is now
Map long: Goto the full maps window
One point though: There's themes which have no settings.
function "first three presets visible when long-pressing at function panel" included with version 4.15.0
dosn't work. When selecting a preset always the third is selected.
Tested with 4.15.0 up to 4.15.2.5
Selection via Main menu -> Prests -> select preset works

@Gerhard57 - well spotted - confirmed here too
Hi. I've noticed something unusual recently, maybe since downloading my current 4.15.2. If I interact with G4L from within Locus (eg, double-tap the map, tap the G4L icon in the panel, do anything with G4L or simply try to dismiss), Locus becomes unresponsive to the touch. (The panel does auto-hide, so it's not fully locked up.) I need to task-switch away then return to Locus, which now works again as usual.
This happens on my Android 13 tablet, but not the Android 9 phone. Locus is not running as a service, Screen on/off control is disabled, Always screen on is disabled, Unlock the screen is enabled.
PS, this also happens when I bypass the G4L UI, eg via "Update cache."
@Viajero Perdido have you tried the latest beta 4.15.2.5? I had similar (not exactly same) experience with 4.15.2 but was fixed in 4.15.2.3.
The .5 beta doesn't fix it, I'm afraid, but thanks for suggesting. Both scenarios, with- and without G4L visible, still cause the problem.
But I see the cache-info panel now appears at the bottom, not side, which is nice because I can swipe that one away, not the side version.
I just had a crash while in the Dashboard editor for no good reason. I should have created a crash log ;-( Hopefully not related to the bug I reported to @menion a few weeks ago which we thought was fixed.
@Tapio
extra button in automatic backup to do a backup like a manual backup? Funny :)
And namings: I'll ask Michal if there is a space for improvements.

Long-click on themes > complete rewrite of the side "Map content panel" is close ...

@Gerhard57
Presets - thanks, good point. Fixed.
@Viajero Perdido
did you tried to press the device's "Back" button again? Maybe there is an "invisible screen" that needs to be dismissed again. Anyway more and more reasons to get rid of G4L. Just one cache by gc-code and live-map are missing...
@Andrew Heard
hmm, I see no useful automatic report in Crashlytics (system I use to collect errors).

Because people will basically have two different sets of backups, that's the point, a complete one and one with assorted settings. And you may want to trigger both of them manually.
Map content panel rewrite? Ooh, curious.
Sure, the complete one should be the "Automatic backup" and "Manual backup" should serve as an occasional backup system or for easy sharing of certain content between apps.
reg. backup, just an idea:
I am using LM4 AFA and also have any data backed up, and I am not in the situation, but imagine generally one needs to completely uninstall LM4 and then re-install. Probably some folders and their content might get removed.
Question is, does it makes sense to inform during backup that the processed essential backup does not include all data, like additional data maps 1234Mb, hgt 1234Mb, etc. etc.? Just to inform and paint the full picture.
In case of a fresh install and loaded backup them might need to get handled manually, or trigger re-download, and probably require a separate backup.
Or recommend to additionally use 'app data transfer', or whatever might be of help.

No, here it's vice versa. Regular auto backup is without the database, because of permanent settings tinkering.
Full backup only manually.
But I backup the auto exported GPX, so in case disaster there's the missing tracks.

Aha! No, I didn't.
Just now, I duplicated the bug. Then hit Back. Responsive again! And... Now I can't duplicate the bug. I think you're right, there was a hidden window that got activated along with G4L, and a single "back" was enough to make it go away, and stay gone. Okay, never mind. 8)
Hi guys,
instead of waiting till the new search system will be ready, I've just published the new version 4.16 today, so we may benefit from a few improvements done last few weeks. Thanks for the help as usually and have a nice weather ;)
